President Biden is continuing to dig his heels in, vowing that he will be on the ballot in November. White House correspondent John Decker joins me with the latest. Good morning, John. Good morning. How are you? Good morning. How are you, John? Doing great. So he's still in it. He's riding with Biden all the way to the polls, but Joe Biden says he's there. Is he? Well, I think that that is the case right now, and the reason I say that, he had a meeting last night virtual meeting, 20-minute-long meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus. They essentially re-endorsed him as the Democratic nominee. The same thing happened with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Progressives are circling the wagon around Joe Biden, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. And I think the bleeding has stopped. And unless there's another episode that happens very soon, I think all this talk about replacing Joe Biden or Joe Biden bowing out of the presidential race is just that. It's talk. It's just not going to happen. It looks like he is indeed digging in his heels, and he indicated yesterday in a letter to fellow Democrats, he's not going anywhere. It's a tough position the Democrats are in because on one hand, there's that old expression. It's better to be silent and then open your mouth and remove all doubt whether or not people think you're stupid. So they're getting the president out there, but they kind of don't want to let him speak too much because he might have another one of those moments. So how are they handling his image so that they keep the press? Oh yeah, he's up to speed or the press is kind of, well, we'll just stay back and that way he doesn't have a chance to fall down the stairs or fall off a stage or lock up or any of those things that you've seen in recent years or months. Well this coming Thursday, there will be a solo press conference. So that is on the schedule, that will happen, it's at 5.30 p.m. Eastern time, 4.30 for you, and this will be more than two questions, and I guarantee you most of the questions will not be focused on the NATO summit, which is taking place this week. Most of those questions will be focused on Joe Biden, his physical and mental abilities to carry out the duties of president. And so we'll see. We'll see how the president deals with those tough questions posed of him during the course of that press conference coming up in just two days. I've heard this press conference is being referred to as a make or break situation, but it seems like he's had a lot of these that first the debate, then his appearance on with Stephanopoulos. And now this at some point, I guess it's going to have to make him a break him, right? Well look, we know that he had a bad debate performance. He himself has acknowledged that, you know, I don't think he heard himself to so to speak with that 22-minute long interview that he did with ABC News at George Stephanopoulos. We'll see how he does as it relates to this, but you know, the point being is that every big moment for the president is being focused on by just about everybody to see how he does, how he does in terms of his substance, how he does in terms of his style, how he carries himself because of that poor debate performance just about two weeks ago. And John, there is news that came out yesterday that White House physicians or specifically neurologists who specialized in Parkinson's visited the White House multiple times over the last three years. But the spin on this has been that, well, this was part of his regular physical. Is it normal to have a team of doctors or a specialist from any one particular field take part in these physicals? Yes, it is normal. That part is normal. For instance, there will be a specialist in various things, a specialist in dermatology to look for any early instance of skin cancer. That's just one example. So yes, there is a neurologist that also takes part in these annual physicals. It's different than the physical that you and I typically go through on a yearly basis. He is the president of the United States, and those types of specialists do take part in the physicals of presidents, regardless of whether it's Joe Biden or Donald Trump. I guarantee you that now, as it relates to this particular Parkinson specialist, the White House press secretary, Corinne Jean-Pierre, definitively said yesterday that the president is not and has not been treated for Parkinson's. This is an individual, however, who has visited the White House on a very frequent basis, eight times and eight months, according to White House visitor law. So I think that today, during the White House press briefing, you're likely to see more questions posed of the White House press secretary on this particular issue. White House correspondent John Deku, thank you so much for joining us this morning on Alabama's Morning News.
