I'm filling in for JT this week. And last week, the Supreme Court came down with his landmark decision, which pushed back Donald Trump's sentencing by Judge Juan Mershan to at least September. Joining me now to talk about this is the Director of Communications at the AFPI, Hilton Beckham. Hilton, welcome to Alabama's Morning News. Hey, thanks for having me, John. Thanks for being on. So, does the pushing of the sentencing make this, is there going to be impact on the election in November? I truly believe it will not. And if it does, I think it'll be in a positive way. We can see all these cases that have been against Trump. They have done nothing but made him more popular, and I think, you know, that is to the surprise of the Democrats, I truly think they thought that if they made Trump a felon, that Biden can win because they know how unpopular he is. And I mean, again, what a low bar to set for Biden. You can win the presidency if Trump is in jail. Like, what a horrible, horrible setting for him. But I truly believe they thought that was a great game plan. And if they push this sentencing right up into the election, where, you know, in late September, early November, I really, truly believe it will just play in his favor. When Trump, the verdict came out in New York City just, you know, a month or two ago, Trump had hit skyrocketing fundraiser numbers. And then he also went up in the polls even more. So I think they need to re-strategize this thinking of, you know, let's just keep going court cases and verdicts at it because it's not working in the far left's favor. Well, what else do they have right now? I mean, the only thing they also can talk about is how Joe Biden says that he finally beat Medicare. He doesn't really have anything else to run on. So all he can run on is, look, I'm not Donald Trump. Exactly. I'm not Donald Trump, and this is a threat to democracy. Well, no, sir, you're the one who's trying to take out your political opponent by using the judicial system. You are the threat to democracy. And let's also look back at the cases that the Supreme Court has said, no, you're out of bounds. Biden, when he tried to do student loan forgiveness programs, when he tried to keep enforcing workplace vaccine mandates, when he did the eviction moratorium, all these cases where the Supreme Court said, Biden, you're out of bounds and, you know, Biden tried to push forward anyway. He is actual, I hate using the, you know, the far left's terms, but if there's a threat to democracy, it's Joe Biden, not Donald Trump, or a threat to our republic. Never forget they can't seem to tell what kind of government we have. We are a, we are a republic, not a, not a democracy, but you know, little details, right? Yes. Yes. Yeah. You're right. You're right. Hilton, do you think that the, because as I understand it, the president, the president, the future president, Donald Trump, he could not appeal until he's actually had a sentence, right? So he can't, because this will be overturned. I am certain that once this thing goes before any rational judge, this thing will be overturned, but he can't get an overturning of a sentence until he's had his sentence, right? You know, I'm not a legal expert. I wish I could say yes or no, but I think that sounds correct. I really think with all these cases that they're throwing at him, I, I cannot see a way for them to get all of this done before November. It seems like every step that the far left to the judicial system tries to make, to take forward on Donald Trump, the more everything falls apart. And it's because we all know this was held together by duct tape anyway. I mean, this New York city case, if anything should have been a misdemeanor. And it was like bootstrapped into a felony because they, you know, canceled out with statute of limitation. It's absolutely absurd how they have gotten this case to where it is. So I just have a really hard time seeing them actually push forward on this case before November. And that's because the left needed a talking point. And this, as weak of a talking point as it was, it is a talking point for them, although now that all they can say is he's just a felon. They can't even say what he's been sentenced to because he's just a felon. And I guess that is what they're going to run on. But ultimately that's, I don't think that's strong enough, especially as weak as his performance was the other week in his, in his debate. I can't imagine this is going to ultimately get them to the White House, which brings up the next question, will it still be, in your opinion, Hilton, will it still be Joe Biden or will it be Kamala or will it be somebody else coming up on the ballot? Is that not the million dollar question? I, my personal belief, the Democrats have made their bed. They're going to have to lie in it now. And that person is Joe Biden, unless something just like, like if he dies, something, I mean, that is in the realm of possibility. If something, or he just becomes completely incapacitated that he cannot be out there. And I cannot see Kamala letting people overlook her. I think she is going to go down swinging. She is not going to give up that position for someone else to run into or run with. So if it's not Joe Biden, I think it's going to have to be Kamala Harris. I think you're probably right, Hilton, because they're going to, you cannot just, from the identity politics that they play, you can't pass over Kamala just because of who she represents in the voter block. And it was South Carolina, Congressman James Clyburn, who said it's her time. If it's not Joe Biden, it's her time. And I think he was the one who got in there in the first place.
