My Alabama's morning news. I'm Chaney T. Jared Halpern joins us now. Our Fox correspondent in DC. Jared, welcome. And thanks for being here. So the Biden family all got together and they came out of the gates in. Oh, he's back. Yeah, we're still in. It was just a bad day. Joe Biden apparently obviously is our president in the United States. And then yesterday I hear they had a big zoom call with all the donors, about 500 people on this thing, and they're all going, what the heck are we going to do? What's going on? So there seems to be some divisiveness even in the Democratic party with this thing. So where were we at with this today? If he chooses not to be right, that's kind of the way that that the process works with the way that delegates are allocated in the primary process. Remember, these are pledge delegates that the president won. Also, keep in mind that it's a condensed timeline. Even before the debate, if you recall, the DNC had said that they were going to have to do some sort of kind of roll call nomination before the convention because of that Ohio law. Remember Ohio to get on the ballot. You have to be a nominee before August 7th. The DNC, the convention is after that date. So they were long planning to kind of do some sort of like virtual roll call with all the delegates that's expected to happen. Maybe late this month, early next month, that condenses the timeline. The other thing that the Biden campaign is putting out is that they still say that, you know, the president has a path here. They point to the fundraising totals, $127 million raised in June. It's best month so far. They say of that, $38 million was raised in the four days after the debate. So again, trying, as you said on that, just to call a little bit of hand holding the reassure donors, the reassure Democratic Party leaders that this is still full steam ahead, that this did not have the dire impact that a lot of Democrats, at least on TV, claim that it did and that this is still an election largely about President Biden and Donald Trump and that that can't be overlooked either. This is not just kind of an incumbent running on his record, but an incumbent running against almost another incumbent on his record. And so that's a different dynamic that the campaign is also pointing to. All right, let's go back to the delegates. You brought them up earlier. They're basically handpicked delegates by Joe Biden. They're locked in. Joe Biden, yeah, will not come off. They're picked by primary voters. Okay. Remember, that's what primaries are for, right? He won the primaries in the same way that Trump won the primaries. It's very similar to the Republican Trump. If Republicans wanted to do that, would be very hard for the same reasons, because when you win primaries, you win pledged delegates. Those delegates, while there's not like sort of nobody's going to go to delegate jail, they have promised to vote for the nominee. Well, that's where I was going with this. On the first ballot. All right, let's hold on. Let's hold on. Yeah. What with these delegates? What's stopping them from all of a sudden going, you know what? I was on board 100%, but I'm not now. Nothing except it would take an awful lot of them to be organized in a behind the scenes. I mean, they would have to do it all in mass, right? I guess that's what's holding them back. It couldn't just be my point is it couldn't just be like three or four, right? It would be like almost all of them. All right. Well, let's talk about the convention and the the what-ifs. I love playing the what-if games. So let's say, you know, because the tension between the Obama's and the Biden's, let's just call it. It's not a secret. All right. So you've got Barack Obama, who's clearly a part of the behind the scenes team in some fashion, some way. And if there's anybody discussing the possibility of replacing Joe Biden, you know, there's some pretty powerful people that are a part of that team. All right. Let's give that just for discussion, say. So with that said, does it behoove the Republicans to have Joe in the race or have somebody else, which is a better setup for Donald Trump? Well, that's a good question. And you've heard some Republicans say, be careful what you wish for, right? That they think that Biden is the more beatable candidate that, you know, when you look kind of a bench that Democrats have, people who could potentially replace Biden kind of in the last minute kind of scramble here, that a lot of them may be more appealing, especially for, you know, we've talked about those so-called double haters, right? Those people that don't really like either Biden or Trump, but they're going to kind of hold their nose and vote for somebody that, you know, a Democratic governor could be much more appealing. And so you have kind of heard at least quietly some Republican say, no, hold on. Like, let's be careful. Right. Right. Well, I mean, how much credence do you give the rumors that Ted Cruz even called for and said, you know, Michelle Obama, you know, that brings Barack back in. It's the dual power presidential team. To me, that's the best case scenario for the Democrats. But I don't think either Barack or Michelle want to do that. Michelle Obama has made clear for many, many years that she has absolutely no interest in entering politics as an elected candidate. Yeah, I know, but it's time to take one for the team, honey. Let's go. We'll be short and sweet. We'll get out of this. If you look at the Obama's portfolio right now, they're much more interested in those types of projects, I think, than a return to the White House. No, OK, good. All right. Well, other than that, then I think it's a disaster for the Democrats right now. And they got some serious planning to do before the convention. That's for sure. All right, Jared. Thank you, buddy.
