These college students are getting blackout drunk on Borg, B-O-R-G drinks. Yeah, Gen Z is just rocking and rolling. The whole intent is get drunk and pass out. I just... I don't get that mindset. I certainly understand drinking a hunch punch. It tastes like, you know, fruit punch and all of a sudden, boom. Because you can't taste the grain alcohol. Talking now with us, a former addict who now leads a faith-based recovery program called From Beer to the Bible. Urban Lee is back. Urban, welcome back in here. Thanks for being with me. Hey, thank you for having me. I appreciate it. Yeah, I saw one of these videos and I'm thinking, oh, my gosh. I mean, if you go into it and you're using what was a milk jug, and now it's completely empty, and it's full of, you know, whatever they put in there to get you so hammered, you just can't see straight and you pass out. What's going on behind the scenes here? Why are people drinking these bored drinks and just, yeah, this is going to be great. Watch me pass out. Is it me or is... I mean, I'll get it. Well, I think they market this as the ultimate hangover cure. And let me tell you why. Because it usually contains a gallon of water, a fifth or more of alcohol, and then they put a lecture light in there, some kind of flavor. But what they forget to tell you, and people aren't mindful of, on average, that 17 drinks in there, and it's a way to quickly get you drunk. 17 drinks. I mean, three or four drinks, and all of a sudden, you know, that's considered bins drinking for more certainly. And then, you know, you're certainly drunk at that point, or most people are anyway. But to drink 17 standard drinks in one little gulp, what's what the electric lights in the water? Do they think that this is, okay, I know I'm going to get drunk here, but I put a little something there in the back end, so when I come out of it, I'm going to be just fine. Yes, because if you over-consume alcohol, there will be side effects and consequences. So, anticipation of that, that's what the water is for. That, again, is what the electrolytes are for, to keep the side effects like the trouble sleeping, the mental health consequences, the sweating, the dehydration. It is supposed to prevent all of that. But this phenomenon has really taken hold, not only on college campuses, but also with those who are underage because of all of the social media videos and being promoted on social media platforms. I mean, kids ought to be raised now that anything they see on social media, just put it in the bucket of idiots. There's very redeeming qualities of any of these stupid things that are out there right now on these challenges, and it seems a lot of them are dangerous, and I would imagine drinking a gallon of what is 17 standard drinks in one sitting, not only do you black out, but potentially, you could end up dead doing this stuff, couldn't you? Yes, some of the symptoms are alcohol poisoning, blackie now, memory loss, and then long-term brain damage, and you could die from alcohol poisoning, but I like to warn our young people and tell them the truth. The truth is, if you get this drunk, you are not in control of yourself, and you open yourself up to a myriad of consequences, and God forbid anyone to drink and drive. But there are so many consequences, and I think he said it best. I've gotten to the point where I just limit all social media intake, and we have to realize that the people who are promoting these things, oftentimes are misleading us, or out and out trying to sell us something, and a lot of this stuff that they promote on the social media platform are long-term and short-term detrimental to you, your body, your soul, and your mental health. Yeah, tell me about your ministry and your faith-based recovery program now, from beer to the Bible, and your story as a former addict? Yeah, so I like to tell people, my story is a story of brokenness. I believe that if you got the American dream, like they tell you, that you would be happy, joy, constant free, and what I found was, I became reckless, depressed, and lost all my hope. I went to rehab for 31 days. I reconnected with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, trusted in him, and he healed me of alcoholism. Now it's a daily healing. I have a rhythm of living that I've been executing for over eight years now, and it keeps me sober, and we started our ministry out of the heartbreak of my wife when I surrendered and wanted to get help. It took her 48 hours to navigate the landscape of addiction, 'cause neither one of us had ever had to do that, so we wanna make it easy for anyone who wants help out there. We look at ourselves as a conduit to all of the treatment, and the resources available to not only get, but help you stay sober. And we believe in not just being sober, but we want you happy, joy, and free, and that we believe is only through the power and love of Christ Jesus. - Amen, amen, change my life for sure, and I back up that 100%. Where can people go that are struggling, or family members that have somebody struggling, to find out what that conduit is all about, and how they can get the help that they so desire at this point, because if you don't want the help, you can go to 20 rehabs that ain't gonna work. You gotta want it. But if they do, where can they go to get more information about what you're doing? - Yes, from beertothebible.com. That's from beertothebible.com, and thank you for having me and taking on these important issues. - Urban, I appreciate you, buddy. God bless you.
