Mike Moore Media. - I'm shaking in with Quentin Robertson, director of Readsville Parks and Recreation. He has an update on a number of special projects going on, but first, Quentin, two words, splash pad. That's the place to be, isn't it? - It is one of the greatest places. It's a wonderful place to have, with an up-pocket recreation, but it's also a great place to come visit and see all of the kids, with all the parents and all the diversity throughout the city, coming to one, God willing to enjoy this facility that we were able to put together and put a system here, and we're getting a lot of usage out there, which we expected to do. So this project has been very exciting, and the final results are really in our faith, and we get to see it, and we get to talk to the kids, and the parents, and get their ideas, okay, you know, what they really like about it. So it has been very, very great addition to the city reason. - Yeah, and it opened just in time for summer weather in the last couple of weeks. Oh my gosh, that is, that's the place to be for sure. - Yeah, so we've been open since May 24th. We've been operating very, very great here. We have a concession stand that's available. We also have a school so Reynolds on the weekend that you're able to call into our main recreation department and schedule those opportunities to come out, have a birthday party with your family, or you just want to have a proper rental and rent out the splash bar area just for your party. So we have a couple options there so people can definitely enjoy the facilities. - Sure, okay, and for those that may not know, where is that? - It is located at 2010 South Scale Street, and that's Reedville, North Carolina 27320, right across the street from Terps, right in our JCPore complex area, within our basketball park as well. So we're really expanding the whole JCPore complex, moving with the splash pad, the dull park there. We have basketball course there. We have a few shelters, and as you move up the trail there, we're extending our tennis courts, and we have a pickleball course as well, and then we have three baseball fields where the Reedville Lucky's are playing, so we have a lot of events going on through our complex in the evening time. There's a tennis clinic that's going on throughout the day that's splash pad, there's people running through the trail, so it is a great environment to come out and express and be, you know, be active, and just enjoy some of the spring and some weather. - Sure, yeah, good things happening at JC Park, yeah, just saw that about the tennis clinic the other day. Tell us about the Recreation Center gym floor. What's going on there? - Oh, so we're changing our renovations. We've renovated our gym floor. When I first got there, we still had the original basketball floor, wood floor, where the gym was actually made, and built, I think, back in almost 1960, 1950. So we were able to kind of pull that up, get some of that existing wood out, and we laid down the new completely new floor here with a new design that will establish pickleball lines. We'll be able to have collegiate basketball tournaments and program basketball tournaments that we'll have throughout the summer, and throughout the winter, and adult leagues, along with, again, volleyball for youth and adults as well. So we're excited about the gym, the new designer, the floor looks very good, so we should be completely with the painting and the process of that coming this Friday, so we're hoping to have everything back open, possibly a grand opening ribbon cutting around next week, sometimes, as well. - Oh, that's great, okay, wonderful news. Okay, you mentioned the J.C. Park tennis courts. Give us a little more information on that because tennis is alive and well in Rockingham County, for sure, isn't it? - So, sure, it's a great program. It's a great individual, great individual. They love the game of tennis, so we reached out and we were working to finalize our grand with the USDA, where we can kind of redo a complete Ford new tennis court. And at J.C. Park, right now, we're working with our southern tennis partners, where we're doing our free tennis clinic this week from Monday to Friday, from 9 to 1, 9 to 12, excuse me, which ends Friday, and we also have our tennis. Excellent program, which all these programs are absolutely free on Tuesdays and Thursdays, on 5/30 to 7/30, adults and kids can come out and cap, you know, partial instructions, help with their tennis techniques and skills from official USTA structures that are involved within our county. - What a wonderful opportunity that is for all ages, yeah. - Yeah. - Okay, terrific. - All righty, pickleball still hot. Is that still the number one sport right now and everyone thing that people are so engaged in across the country? - Yeah, I believe so. Pickleball is such an engaging sport because it reaches all the demographics age-wise and you can put some adaptive plays in there, so everyone can kind of play the game. But right now, pickleball courts that we have in the city, whether it's our outdoor pickleball court that J.C. or our orchestra center. We see that this is a very fast-paced growing game and all ages like to enjoy it. So, yeah, we're looking to possibly establish it and put in another pickleball court so that the citizens are having their place where they can come in and play and enjoy this game. So, we see that there was a need and so we're working diligently to kind of make sure that we put in the right equipment for the J.C. facility so each and every pickleball participant has the opportunity to play as well. - Mm-hmm, oh, more good news there, J.C. Park. Okay, well, I know that's some of the main things you wanted to cover. Anything else when we have some time? - Oh, well, we just finished off. What would you like then? We had the Motown legacy review out there. We had some, the fireworks were very entertaining and a lot of the vendors, so we would like to thank all of the vendors that have participated in that. So, every year, this has been a wonderful event that we've been able to put on for the city of Riesler then we will have a couple more events that we have planned coming in the next couple of months, a color fun run that would probably take place as well to one of our parks and then probably want to cool it down. We're maybe doing an adult recess for the city. It's time to give some of the adult a break or how much they send the kids back to school and have some free time to just let their hair down and enjoy some of the water sports and some of the activities that we can kind of put together would be in the flash pad as well. - Oh, that's great, yeah. Yeah, I was looking at that drone footage, the coverage there from your Independence Day celebration. That was really cool, too. - Oh, yeah, yeah. Whoever shot that, I would love to reach out to them. Thank you for getting those images for us. And hopefully you can get it a video. We can definitely use that for future references, but it's great, those cameras can kind of catch it, capture everything that's kind of in place within the park and kind of see the different zones that we have, whether it was the kids' own area, where we had bouncy houses and a lot of different games and we had a phone cannon for the kids to enjoy all our vendors' own vendor role where, you know, individuals get to go from place to place to try different foods and different jewelry or different kind of clothing that was produced from different types of vendors. So it was a great, great, great audience to come out and everyone's have their lawn chairs and blankets out to enjoy the fan. The fan was very entertaining. They were very participating with the crowds and a lot of people up dancing in movies. So those are the type of energy. Those are the type of scenes that we would like to see continue to kind of see within our park direction during the event. - Sure, oh yeah, that's great. Making it happen right there. Okay. - Yeah. - Well, anything else, Quinton? - Well, and I said, my mic, I think we're pushing, keeps moving forward. We have our football season, we'll probably be opening pretty soon. Our athletics are doing volleyball season as we come along, right now we're in our adult co-eds, softball season as well that plays on Tuesday, Thursday. So we have a lot of happening events, a lot of programs that is available for youth and adults. So much going on that we've talked about this and finally making it happen here to keep you better informed here. Quentin will be doing a monthly broadcast, monthly podcast on the second Friday of each month at 9.30 here on Mike Moore Media. I have some more great information to share with you that you can share with your audience. And so the more information that we're able to get out about our programs, the better as well.
