It was standing room only at Lance Knight's Madison Board of Aldermen meeting to honor Bishop James France, who recently retired after 60 years as pastor at Mount Carmel Holiness Church in Madison. Family, friends, members of his congregation and pastors gave him a standing ovation when Mayor William Phillips presented a framed proclamation saying, "You have ministered to all of us as a community." Bishop France spoke for about 10 minutes. I posted a photo on Facebook, Mike Moore Media last night. Additional photos will be added today. From Rockingham County Schools, new assignments for the new school year, Dennis Paskel, principal at Wentworth Elementary School, Jennifer Hardin, principal Rockingham County Middle School, and Meredith Staley, assistant principal Wentworth Elementary School. Starting this week, there's a new medications for opioid use disorder program at Rockingham County Division of Public Health, staffed with a primary care nurse practitioner and licensed clinical addiction specialist. It's available to anyone at least 18 currently using opioid drugs like oxycodone, hydrocodone, and fentanyl. The program accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and a number of private insurance plans. Anyone needing treatment or with questions can call 336-342-8140, extension 8300. Readsville Police Department reports these arrests, Larry William Young, 26, disorderly conduct resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon in possession of marijuana. Kelly and Shreve, 42, possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Reginald Keith Thompson Jr., 43, and Roy Lee Jones, 59, second-degree trespassing at sheets on freeway drive. Eden Police Department reports these arrests, Richard Lee Dyson, DWI, and carrying a concealed weapon. David Alan Garias, DWI, possession of cocaine and open container of alcohol. Maurice Deshawn Jones, Danville, DWI, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and open container of alcohol. Numbers in the news, close to $400 million, was wagered on sports events during June, according to the NC State Lottery Commission. Walmart is adding more than 500,000 square feet to its distribution center in Membin, bringing that to just over 1 million square feet. Farmer headquarters of the Atlantic Coast Conference has been sold to a property management group in Jamestown for $1.8 million. It's on the textbooks at $4.5 million. The 24,300 square foot building is in Grandover Commons Business Park, Greensboro. Now a quick recap of Rockingham County News this week. Eden is the second municipality to have a social district allowing alcoholic beverages outside while shopping on designated streets uptown. Madison was the first about two years ago. Golf carts are now permitted on May at End Street 24 hours a day. There were 55 registered golf carts last year that number could soon reach 65 to 70.
