Mike Moore media I'm talking to Cindy Adams marketing and special events manager for the city of Eden Hey Cindy explore in NC is a place to go isn't it that's exactly right. Thank you for having me today Yeah, well that Facebook page and explore Eden NC calm. That's the place to find out what's happening And I wanted I know you a lot to talk about but I really seriously Called you I thought about calling you earlier that maybe we should have done today's podcast on location at the splash pad Wouldn't that be fun? Yeah, the splash bed or the mill avenue pool either one Yeah, they have gotten plenty of use this summer. That's exactly right That's a fun place to be it really is. Okay, so some things that Have just taken place and some things coming up. So jump right in Yeah, well this past Friday night we had our second Uptown cruises event in Uptown Eden on Henry Street and Rain and vintage cars Sometimes don't miss they had a great showing. Yeah But we feel like if it's a rain Had not been hit and miss that we would have had more but it was so fun to watch the guys and girls drive these cars And the sound was magnificent you could hear them coming Yeah down Washington Street and pull in and just added some excitement But they'd lift them hoods and put the chairs out and just immediately start talking to each other and it's just a It was just great watching it and seeing people having such a good time talking about things that they love and that's their cars It's a car community, isn't it? Really? It really is and they have their own little language and You know a lot of them had on car type T-shirts a lot of mopar and things like that. So it was fun to watch and So they have a good time and the guys at public works who who brought this to us and wanted this to happen This is theirs. They all have the vintage cars the muscle cars and No people that have it and so that's why it's been so successful. It's because of them and they literally do the work You know blocking the streets and and guiding the cars in and and all of that So this is their baby and they're doing a great job with it. Yeah, so thank you public works for making that happen So that is the first Friday of the month through october 69 so the next one's coming up august second That's right. Okay. You know they have a DJ grandini does that for us. Oh, we always have food down there the merchants have been so gracious Uh to stay open late for the ladies that might want to stroll a little bit Um, the restaurants are open if you don't want the food truck. You can go sit down and have a nice inner downtown Um 50/50 drawings and so it's a lot of fun. Yeah, I know. Yeah, people love those cars. That's for sure I know you want to say a little something before we move forward here about Shenandoah at the farmhouse Oh my goodness. There's so much to say what I hit Chris Nelson and Aaron his wife worked a long time a lot of preparation a lot of planning um Just a great vision of what that could be Um with a beautiful backdrop of the farmhouse. We are so lucky that the wood alts have have opened that to for events and such and Um, it was it was a hot night, but it was dry and people came from everywhere. I went to make some reservations At a hotel local hotel for the band and I got the last three rooms. They were full. Wow And all our hotels were full. We had I think 11 or 12 states represented Um in Eden for Shenandoah and they have a huge cult-like following and um, but it was a beautiful night. It ran like clockwork and kudos to chris and we can't wait to see what the next we were just so proud to her partner with him on that. He did the heavy lifting We just you know supplied some manpower and supplies, but as far as selling tickets and marketing that event He's top notch. Yeah, so thanks to uh chris and everyone involved in everyone who came and had a part in the farmhouse. Yeah, okay Yeah, a lot of fun. All right. We're looking ahead shagging on field grass. Is that the next thing we need to talk about? We can. No, I don't know where you got the movie. You want to mention the movie? The movie. Yeah. Um, we're so excited about it But it it looks like if the we're gonna have to make this decision tomorrow because of logistics of you know food truck owners ordering food of us committing to a licensed movie and a rental of a inflatable screen and and electronics and it's very expensive and um, we just can't risk that it looks like it may rain on friday and um We will not cancel. We will reschedule because we are so excited about this. We're showing the movie grease And we've got all kinds of fun props and things related to the you know to the 50s and people dressing up and old cars and good food and so But we will make that decision tomorrow afternoon and we'll put that out and we hope everybody shares that when it gets out there Because it's got a lot of buzz. Um, I think we were going to have a great crowd. Yeah, um, but unless that Forecast changes, uh, we are going to post that so and for those that don't know we're talking about Movies on Monroe in uptown. Yeah for friday night. Yeah. Yeah, okay. Yeah for it mission and But again, we'll just see how it goes tomorrow. Yeah, okay. So, um, yeah, the best way, uh, I mentioned explore eating in c On facebook so that'll be where you'll put that tomorrow Yes, and it'll also be on the municipal facebook page as well And then um, we'll send it to all of our media partners and you of course and and hopefully we can spread that word Okay, very good All righty now let's jump ahead to next saturday the 20th and this is the big one Shagging on philcrest and someone just asked me today sindy It's on main street. Why? And I said, well, i'm top talking to sindy. I will ask her Yeah, we kind of outgrew where we were. Um, it got really tight. Um, really crowded and We just looked around for different places and you know, they have that beautiful new um draper volunteer fire department Um, we'll be in the street right in front of that. It's wider there The it's longer. It's a it's a nicer place for the road reach to have their beer garden and For our food vendors to place and for the tables and chairs. It just we spread out a little bit more and grow a little bit more Um, but we just we were just still in squeezed. Yeah, where we were which is a good thing And you've that's happened with so many other of your events through the years Yeah, it has it has and and people have been so good to to patronize what we do and and we really appreciate it This is a free event. Um, it's kind of unheard of to have the caliber of beach music that we're going to have and there's no charge Um, so there's lots of sponsors to thank for that And a lot of it's right there in that draper community. Um, they love this event Um, they support it Not only by coming and helping but they they give their money Uh, to help pay for these bands and everything that we do Um, but we're going to start out the day with pop-up pop that is a favorite local band they're playing from two to 330 And then the Catalina Um, are playing from four to five thirty and we just can't wait to see them And then too much Sylvia fantastic, um group they've Been around a while there at the top of the charts now just um a very sought-after band and so we're very lucky to have them But they'll be uh closing out the night from seven to ten and so it is going to be fun all day long You are right about that. Wow. Okay. Yeah, and and I want to just kind of echo what you said when you look at the caliber of music you could go somewhere Another venue and uh pay to see some of these bands too much Sylvia and the Catalina's and others But uh, no free shagging our field question draper. Yeah, that's right. You know, like our um, our fleetwood matt tribute band They play at halls and different places. Yeah, you have to pay to get in there and so but that's where our community just really steps up and really supports what we do And um, make it available to anybody and everybody who wants to participate and shagging brings in a huge number of people from out of town. Oh sure. Um, they just have it on their calendar and So but we'll have food trucks the rotary will be there like we said with the beer garden will have Beautiful t-shirts this year. I'm so excited. You better get those I want to talk about that is my color. You've got my color. Yeah. I want to I want several of those at least Yeah, they're fantastic Now you can go by and all you gotta do is go by preppy pirate and you Get it and and wear it with you, you know when you come on the 20th. Yeah, okay But um, we asked that you bring your chairs, uh, but don't bring your coolers And uh, there's been a lot of questions about dogs Um You know, there is no ordinance for me to tell you you can't bring a dog but in a big Setting like that with so many people and food and drink Um, we ask if you can uh, to leave your pet at home that night um Just for safety reasons. Yeah, and it's loud too It's very loud. Yeah, and uh, you know, that is disturbing for some animals. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Okay. All right So come out shagging on philcrest main street and that is uh saturday july 20th. Oh, that's gonna be such a fun fun day for sure Okay, let's let's back up a couple of days to the 18th and a new event Yes, it is and we're really excited about this when it's something different Um, it's called watercolors on washington. Uh, this is being done by the fine arts festival association of the county Um, it's thursday july 18th from five 30 to eight Um, and they say this is the first in our series of art shows sales that will further their mission to promote arts and artists in rockinham county, and um, I think they're kind of pairing um paintings with kara stand rugs if i'm not mistaken cool idea or rugs from pay stone and um We are um Hosting the reception for that and very excited about that and uh, the poster that they did is that was really beautiful. Oh, it is Yeah So real proud of the fine arts festival and all that they do for the county. It's a sort of the art. Mm-hmm So watercolors on washington pay stone and thursday july 18th very nice All right. Yeah, there's so much to do. You know, it's it seems like it's um Always something to do something to go to something to participate in Sometimes two and three things in a day and they're right So we just hope people take advantage of that because most of the things out there are free. I know. Yeah, you know carla does her cruise in jeep meat and music at freedom park the last fatter day of every month um you know free her next one is july 27th and So that'll be a fun night at freedom park at the amphitheater. Yeah, okay Yeah, speaking of free about uh cool off on the rivers We've got uh, we've got those And once once you get down maybe uh to into the woods a little bit in the cool trees with our trails and um, you know, uh green waves and all of that Oh, this would be a good time to to do that for sure. Yeah, and just just jumping the water Cool wall and get back on and so yeah, we have all those accesses that make it easy to get in and out and Yeah, it's for us another great free natural thing that you know to hear the the wildlife or see the wildlife I was looking at a video this morning that someone was on the on the dam and Uh, there was a beaver. They had a hair white heron. Mm-hmm. Follow them. Um, uh, a long way the ducks You know, you just never know what you're going to see. That's right. Yeah, okay Well again tell us how we can find out more about what's happening around eden and mention too Cindy Uh, the uh small town big outdoors newsletter if you would please Yeah, that is a great way. We just chalk it full Um, you can get on to that newsletter mailing list on our website, which is at for edenancy.com Or you can call diana hunt Um in administration and she'll add you into that But it's a quick way it comes out the first day of every month. It's always on time And um just tells you what's going on the month that we're aware of Um, the quickest way something that changes daily sometimes multiple times a day Um is our explore eden facebook page And then a lot of times we share things on the municipal page Um as well the city of eden page, uh, we put things out on our electronic sign Outfront so if you're driving by you can you can see things there too But and then lots of publications lots of news letters if it's ever it should be we hope so That people are seeing it somewhere at some point during the month because we try a little bit of everything That's right. Yeah, okay Well, uh explore eden Uh lot to see and do um, so get out and enjoy I think you've seen it. It's always good to talk to you. Appreciate your time Well, we appreciate you Yeah, all the people that make things happen, but you're you're the one that uh behind the scenes people just Had a clue and what what you little little rhyme here people had a clue what you do to make things happen It takes so much. Yeah, so thank you for that. I don't want people to see my desk right now Mine either, but i'm not making things happen like you are. So yeah, you are too. You get the word out You're the way reason people come. Oh, uh, but one thing on the horizon and we're working hard on it It's river fest. Oh, yeah coming up september 20th and 21st. Uh next session We'll talk about some of the exciting things with that. But one thing that I do want to tell is tabitha brown Um is going to be with us during river fest get out of here Really doing meet and greets and wow You know talking to her fans and and all that and so we are delighted of her and her team Uh, we'll be here with us. That's a big deal for us We feel very fortunate Um that we talked her months ago and um They have worked it into their schedule and so we really really are excited about that That's the first i've heard about that. Is that breaking news or is that out there? No, it's breaking news.
