North Carolina state government has unveiled a plan that eliminates billions in medical debt from low and middle income residents and implements new policies supporting future patients. If federal regulators approved the plan, about 100 hospitals that recently began receiving enhanced Medicaid reimbursement funds will get even more money. But to qualify, the hospital would have to voluntarily do away with patients medical debt going back 10 years. The governor says this plan has a potential to help 2 million people statewide get rid of $4 million in debt, much of which the hospitals are never going to recoup anyway. Meeting hospitals would be eligible to share up to $6.5 billion in federal funds. National Wildland Firefighter Day is dedicated to the brave men and women who risked their lives to combat wildfire. These firefighters often work in extreme conditions protecting our forests, wildlife, and communities. Did you know that Wildland firefighters can carry up to 45 pounds of gear while checking through rugged terrain? Your dedication and stamina are truly commended. Marlo weren't you a firefighter? Well, I was a search and rescue person for a while, yeah. Did you carry 45 pounds of gear? Oh my goodness. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Probably even more than that when I think about it, but things have gotten better over the years because of technology. Wow. I think you carry that much in your bag, right? It's more like 30 pounds, thank you very much. Are you training to be a Wildland firefighter? I feel very judged right now. I'm not judging at all. This is... No, I just have everything I need in one place. I see. In case they ever get a call and say, "Hey, we need to fill in for a day or two, you're ready to go." Thank you, Marlo. From honoring our heroes, we shift to a more leisurely celebration for a national picnic month. Technicking has been a beloved activity for centuries, offering a perfect blend of nature, food, and relaxation. In fact, the tradition of picnicking became popular in France after the French Revolution and quickly spread around the world. There's nothing quite like enjoying a meal in the open air, surrounded by nature. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, and they all play games. At the lady bus picnic. I brought us a picnic. Really? Is that why your bag weighs 30 pounds today? Yes. It makes sense now. Yes. That's why it's so heavy. I appreciate that. What's in there for me? I was trying to do something nice, but you have to share the food. Marlo, don't eat everything because every time we go on a picnic, you eat everything and I barely get a sandwich, like it's not fair. It's because it tastes so good outside. That's why. Okay. Let's go. I'm Latle Johnson. I'm Marlo Anderson. Thank you for joining us on our journey to celebrate every day. And get on over to Facebook and Instagram and follow us at Destination Celebration Show. Until next time, keep celebrating. I'll tell you, Annette and I celebrated our first tomato sandwich of the season yesterday. Oh, it was so good. Tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, blueberries, all from tunnels. Yeah, Annette's fixing her famous squash casserole today, hoping for corn. Soon, I've been craving corn on the cob. Oh, it's great to be eating real food again. Yes, for those that have been asking, moving forward, things are looking up, healing, doing great. And just in time for all of those good things from the garden, hoping to make a trip to be sweet orchards this week, peaches are just a little slow ripening. All right, let's see who's celebrating now on the birthday club. And I have the names for July 2nd. Happy birthday to Kevin Griffin and Shelton and Jeanette Mabe, who's 83. Yes, our best wishes to you and Shelton, Kevin Griffin, Jeanette Mabe. Thank you for letting us know about those birthdays. I need to know who's celebrating for, let's see, July and August. That's right. Get those names in. That would be the third through the 31st and then all of August's birthdays. You can text them to me anytime at 3, 3, 6, 9, 3, 2, 18, 81. Get on the birthday club. I announce everyone's birthdays that we have a giveaway at the end of the week. Big name birthdays today, Richard Petty, 87, Marko Rami, 34, Lindsey Lowen, 36, 38, Larry David, 77, Polly Holliday, 87. This week in our music spotlight, I'm playing songs from Stars and Stripes Forever, Grass Roots, and Bluegrass Hits today, the Jones Brothers. There's a star, a spangled banner waving some waves, and that is to land so many miles away. On the uncle's sounds great, he rules get to go there. I'd see them cuz to watch you turn and parry, Nathan Hale and Colin Kelly do. There's a star, a spangled banner waving some waves, waving on the land of heroes brave and true. In the s'more of this mad scheme's of destruction, of our country farin' our sweet liberty, of the mad dictator's leaders' of corruption, can't the U.S. use a mountain more like me? God gave me the right to be a free American, and for the precious right on glad me done. There's a star, a spangled banner waving some waves, and that is where I won't be near though I realize I'm crippled, that is true, sir. Nathan, judge my courage by my twisted leg, let me show my uncle some what I can do, sir. Let me help you bring the axes down a thing, if I do some great big, I will be a people. And a hero brave is what I won't be near. There's a star, a spangled banner waving some waves, and that heaven ashes be a place for me.
