Mike Moore Media, the first place to hear Rocky County News and Information. News is sponsored by Lane's Family, Pharmacy, and Home Health Care. Beating a July 1 insurance deadline, the Rocky County Sheriff's Office now has law enforcement liability coverage. Last month, travelers notified the county it was dropping coverage due to a history of deaths at the jail not being properly reported. Eleven inmates died in three years. The new company can sale insurance based in Richmond. Premiums are more than double, going from $161,000 to almost $352,000, and the deductible, which had been $10,000, is now $200,000 per incident. It's not in the county budget effective today, so the increase will be covered by inmate canteen fun, which collects revenue from movies, video games, text messaging, and snacks. But according to county commissioners, additional funds will be needed, and that means reducing services to taxpayers, with the financial burden on citizens unknown this time. That's a quote from county government. Meghan Ann is starting the new month with a new town manager, Melanie Shuler. She has more than 15 years of local government experience. Most recently, in Waxam, population 17,000 near Charlotte, she received a master of public administration degree from Appalachian State University in 2019, and was most recently president of the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks. Mike Moore Media welcomes Melanie Shuler to May it in. Here's an update on an incident at Walmart in Ravesville. Police responded to a call about a person with a gun in the parking lot. Friday around 1 p.m. No shots were fired. Melford Edison Holloway III, 28, was arrested and charged with assault by pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and going armed to the terror of the public, $25,000 bond. According to police, this was an isolated incident, a personal confrontation between two people. New laws take effect today in our state, pertaining to DMV fees, voting adoptions, high school athletics, and masks, and many others have posted a complete list this morning. In business news, Dove Medical Supply will not be reopening in store on North Highway Street in Madison. It's been closed since a fire in early December. Now all signs have been removed and windows covered up. I've shared that story, picture, and comment from our friends at the Messenger of Madison Made In. Let me follow up with this reminder from Lane's family pharmacy and home health care in Eden. They have a medical supply department, always well stocked with whatever you need, equipment and supplies, and a qualified staff to help you. Lane's welcomes Dove Medical Supply customers, and thanks there are many loyal customers through the years. Lane's is on Highway 14 in Eden, near the hospital. Thanks everyone for your comments, and I wanted to share some of those from our Facebook page. Let's see. Someone says, "Not a drop at my home, just thunder. I wish we would get some in Stonewall. But I want to share this with you as well, because I've never seen this before on my Facebook page, from MetaAI, what people are saying. Just listen to this. Many commentators are expressing their desire for rain in their areas, with some mentioning that they have not received any rain or only a light sprinkle that did not provide relief from the dry conditions. When we didn't have a sports report, I think they must be taking a week off, but we do have this consumer report. Home prices may not be falling, but mortgage rates are. The pancakes were perfect. I heard her tell that to Paulina. It's always good and you can get breakfast all day, every day. Oh, there's so much on the menu from triple, berry, fridge, toast. Oh, Annette likes that too too. Steak and eggs. And for lunch and dinner, salmon to burgers. Now, speaking of, I wanted to mention also, in addition to all of the good food, it's a great place to celebrate special events. So, I keep that in mind. The vitz-centered Oh Sugar, really nice indeed. And now, speaking of celebrating. Welcome to July 1st on the National Day calendar. Today, we're turning up the volume and exploring some green wonders. It's International Reggae Day and this day is all about celebrating the music and culture that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. Reggae blends jazz, blues and Caribbean rhythms, creating a unique sound that's hard to resist. And did you know Bob Marley's album Legend has spent over 900 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart? That's one of the longest charting albums ever. It is an awesome album. It is an awesome album. That's true. And I'm not going to lie, Reggae music is feel good music. It just makes you feel good. It does take it to the tropics a little bit. I'm doing the math. It's like 18 years. This has been on the Billboard 200. This is crazy. Unbelievable. From the rhythm of Reggae, we turn to the versatility of hemp for National Hemp Month. Hemp has been used for over 10,000 years for everything from rope and clothing to nutritious food. Plus, get this. The first American flag was actually made from hemp. And hemp frozen variety of climates and requires very little water, making it an eco-friendly crop. It's fascinating how one plant can be so versatile and sustainable. Do you have any hemp clothing? I have some hemp shirts. I just purchased them recently actually. It's kind of making a big deal in clothing right now. It is. And do you love the way it feels? I do. It's soft and I love it. So, how about you? What do you have in hemp? Probably just like some bags. Probably just some bag. Like accessories. Are these fashionable all the way? Of course, they're fashionable. I don't wear anything that's not fashionable, Marla. They're bedazzled in all I know. I know. I don't even know why I asked for that. It's not bedazzled, Marla. So, did you bring me anything? You're always looking for gifts, aren't you? I mean, how are we celebrating today? Well, you know, I'm wearing my hemp shirt. Oh, I got a handbag on, so. There you go. I'm Latoya Johnson. I'm Marla Latis. Thank you for joining us on our journey to celebrate every day. Until next time, keep celebrating. Now, let's see who's celebrating on our birthday club. Yes, we're ending June and starting July. So, I have one name for June 30th, Babbi Moore, and one name for July 1st, Rick Mead. Happy birthday to you, Babbi Moore, and Rick Mead. All right, that ends one starts another. Let me know who's celebrating July and August birthdays. Text them to me at 336-932-1881. Big name birthdays today. Pamela Anderson, 57. Liv Tyler, 47. And Android 72. Carl Lewis, 63. Jamie Farr, 90. If you've been a regular listener for some time, you know, I'm a patriotic guy. All this week in our music spotlight, I'm playing songs from stars and stripes forever. 13 grassroots and bluegrass hits. I'm not playing all 13, kind of building to July 4th. I actually have one for Friday the 5th starting today with a classic American folk tune dating back to the 19th century. Come to the Great Atlantic Ocean to the wider city of shore. From the greener-firing mountains to the ice-bound lighter door. Oh, she's a mighty tall and handsome and old, quite well by all. She's a modern combination known as the wall-based cannonball. Now, listen to the jingle on the land you wore. As she glides along the woodlands to the hills and by the shore. Here are the mighty rush of the engine. Hear that monster, Bobo's wall. As she travels to the jungle along the wall-based cannonball. Now, here's the static blacks and, hey, your all-in-law. I'm playing for everything. And always be remembered and I close to our land. Our the races over and the curtain round you fall. They'll carry you home with the Dixie on the wall-based cannonball. Now, listen to the jingle on the land you wore. As she glides along the woodlands to the hills and by the shore. Here are the mighty rush of the engine. Hear that monster, Bobo's wall. He travels to the jungle along the wall-based cannonball. Now, she came down the farm and held on cold as soon as I lay. As she pulled into the stash and you could hear all the horses. Now, listen, Bobo's wall. As she glides along the woodlands to the hills and by the shore. Now, listen, Bobo's wall. As she came down the farm and held on cold as soon as I lay. As she pulled into the stash and you could hear all the people saying. There's that gal from Tennessee. She's long and she's tall. She came down the farm and held on the wall-based cannonball. Now, listen to the jingle on the land you wore. As she glides along the woodlands to the hills and by the shore. Here are the mighty rush of the engine. Hear that monster, Bobo's wall. He travels to the jungle along the wall-based cannonball. [Music] Interesting story about the Wabash Cannonball. That was Benny Martin, the Carter family, Boxcar, Willy and Roy. Hey, Cuff. All had hits with it. It's the oldest song on the list of the rock and roll Hall of Fame's 500 songs that shaped rock and roll. How about that? And that's our program to start the week, start the month. Thank you for listening. Now, today's motivational moment. Thanks to Livingstone Wealth Management. Raymond James in Madison.
