(upbeat music) - Welcome to June 16th on the National Day Calendar. Today, we're celebrating Father's Day, appreciating turkeys and taking a historical journey back in time. - Father's Day became an official US holiday in 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed it into law. However, the concept of Father's Day originated in 1910 and Spokane, Washington when Sonora Smart Dot decided to create a special day for her father, a widowed Civil War veteran who raised six children all on his own. Today, it's a day to honor all fathers and father figures for their contributions, sacrifices, and love. ♪ I know it ♪ ♪ When I look in my father's hands ♪ ♪ You find your father ♪ - That is an amazing story, actually. - It is, especially in that time, it was not very common for it to be a man raising children. - Yeah, and six of them on, you know, so very, very cool. - And happy Father's Day to you, Marlo. - Thank you, Latoya. I appreciate that. It's also National Tricky Lover's Day, a day for all you turkey fans. While turkeys have been a food source since the time of the Aztecs, they're much more than just Thanksgiving centerpieces. The lean, protein rich meat can be enjoyed in various forms. Think beyond the traditional roasted turkey, there are turkey burgers, turkey meatballs, turkey tacos, and even turkey breakfast sausages. So on this day, we honor not only the historical significance of the turkey, but also its versatile place on our dinner tables. ♪ I am a turkey bird ♪ ♪ I live a turkey life ♪ ♪ I got me 13 turkey kids ♪ ♪ A little turkey wife ♪ ♪ I get a lot of corn ♪ ♪ I'm a turkey lover ♪ - I am, too. I've never heard of turkey tacos before. I've never heard of turkey tacos either. - It is interesting, though. I would try that. I mean, I like chicken tacos. - Yeah, I think I like any type of tacos. - Well, there we go. Let's go try some turkey tacos. - So are you actually cooking it? (laughing) - Well, it's Father's Day. I'll cook for you. I'll cook for you. Turkey tacos, it is. - Seriously. - Let's go. - All right. - Appreciate that. - I'm Latoya Johnson. - I'm Arlo Anderson. - Thank you for joining us on our journey to celebrate every day. And get on over to Facebook and Instagram to follow us. Until next time, keep celebrating.
