Mike Moore Media. I'm checking in with our friends at the Stokes County Arts Council Executive Director Eddie McKeene. He's on the line now to tell us about some exciting things coming up. Eddie, hey, how are you? I'm doing great Mike. It's great to hear your voice and I hope you're doing well. I am always good to talk to you Eddie. So yeah, let's jump right in look at the calendar. Good things happening as always. Oh wow, so much stuff Mike. We've got our Kurt Gallery exhibit Eileen Wilhelm as just a wonderful local painter that's happening at the Ben and Lema Apple Gallery. We're open seven days a week so if folks are headed up to Hang Your Rock or the Dan River or just passing through Dan Berry, stop in, see her artwork. Again, just a phenomenal local talent and painters. So and Eileen's exhibit will be running through the end of June this Saturday. Interesting program and presentation for this Saturday. June 29th it's UFOs, Aliens, Congress, oh my and this Craig Richards is going to be discussing why the Department of Defense, NASA, and Congress are finally taking UFOs seriously. It's free admission. There'll be some a little bit of conversation, lecture, and also images and again it's this Saturday, June 29th here at the Arts Place. Seven PM's when it starts and there's no admission. So definitely want folks to to consider coming out. I know that's UFOs are the talk. Sometimes and so if that interests anybody out there, it's going to be an interesting presentation for us. So let's keep that in mind. Yeah, every time I mention that every morning here and have for the last couple of weeks on my community calendar and I'm thinking you know a lot of folks are interested in this and yeah so and it's free and it's coming up Saturday. Okay, that's great. Yeah, free. Yeah, there's no really reason and again that's an interest to a lot of folks and I think the national media has pretty much taken us on. You feel a lot more stories of UFOs. That's right. And so Craig Craig's going to elaborate a little bit more on that with some information and and hopefully folks will get something out of it. And we have some really cool concerts coming up. Sunday, July 7th, Rissy Palmer. Rissy Palmer, her trio, 3pm here at the Arts Place. Rissy has performed with Taylor Swift, Beyonce, she's been at the White House, she's been at Lincoln Center, just a phenomenal artist and somehow, someway, we plugged into her schedule to come here and it's part of that network. We're just honored to be a part of. Rissy knows a lot of the artists that we deal with and so she wanted to come here Sunday, July 7th, 3pm. Rissy Palmer, trio and it will be a phenomenal afternoon so and that's coming up. That's a week from Sunday. Then we're going to jump jump ahead to July the 20th. We have Mike Ferris and solo show for him. That's again July 20th at 6pm. 50 Arts Place Mike is known as a he's a Dove Award winner, a Granny winner, an Americana Award winner and just oh my gosh if you've never heard Mike Ferris live his voice just be ready yeah because that's one of those where you're gonna get just bumps on your arms and it's just phenomenal vocalist powerful one of those powerful vocalist you'll ever your life so we know that one's gonna be a well attended event as well and again that's Saturday July the 20th. Something a little different the following day July 21st John Cowan we got a book book signing hold to a dream a new grass odyssey. John's actually flying in here just for this event from Nashville. John is a former member of new grass revival. He's been a bass player for the doobie brothers for the last 20 years and it's going to be from 2 to 4pm. Stokes County has become in many ways a second home to John and that he loves coming here and so he's already had a book signing in Nashville. He didn't want to miss coming back to Stokes County for this so Sunday July 21st and 2pm. A lot of people in the folk circles bluegrass circles new grass circles no John and so keep that in mind Sunday July 21st 2pm. In the following week July 27th John Berry a country artist who's been coming here for several years. Saturday July 27th 6pm John and his wife Robin and that will be just an evening of songs and stories with John and Robin Berry a country star who's had numerous number one hits Grammy award winner and again just the train just keeps on coming with a lot of these folks and expect some phenomenal things from John and the last year we're talking about I'm going to go ahead and jump ahead to September 14th oh yeah I know it's a little ways out but it's the 50th Stokes stop festival on the Dan River and we're pulling out all the stops this year we've got a tribute to the Fodrell brothers which was huge in the 70s we had them in the early stops and Lynn Fodrell will be here honoring his father and and his uncles and a lot of you like Piedmont Blues you're gonna love this Fodrell brothers tribute we've got some hard times band with some some good bluegrass and all the minion clockers will be here and then again we we wrap it up with somewhat of a youth movement with Caleb Coddle and the Sweet Critters and then Shadowgrass which is another local based kind of bluegrass newgrass band that are creating waves all over the country they go from Billy Strings and they're a lot of local musicians that have been here for years and now they're getting national attention and they're headlining this year's September 14th 50th Stokes stop free admission we got a lot of cool little games and other things I'm not going to mention for attendees and September 14th 50 years and so wonderful yeah it's just it's just good stuff and and we're excited we tell folks just again if you're in Danbury come visit the arts place our market is happening we've got camps right now kids summer camps going on and so a lot's coming up for the fall the rest of the summer so come see us at the Stokes County Arts Council Mike sure yeah you know all of these wonderful talented people talented people and then when you mention names like John Cowan and you know you drop in those names people that will be there that have played with another same stage with Taylor Swift and Billy Strings and all of these you know it's um the Stokes County Arts Council you bring all of this to us so everyone really needs to pay attention here and and follow you on Facebook and your uh your web page and all of that and try to get to these and this is so many wonderful opportunities well and and you get I mentioned this earlier before we your your podcast started here but but the the your uploads and personal I mean we have we have especially if you're art's place it's a small venue our capacity is 150 we usually average around 100 125 people so you're getting to see these artists you get to have a meet and greet with them and again these are people that that associate and with some of the biggest artists in the world I mean it doesn't really get big any bigger than Taylor Swift or the White House and you got Reecey Palmer who's performed with at at the White House and with Taylor and Beyonce and that's her network and she's coming here because she wants to be a part of of what's happening here in small town USA and uh we do all this sure to entertain ourselves Mike but we want to inspire others you know everyone is an artist so be inspired get to know these these artists up close and personal and then go out and and find out what interests you it could be visual arts could be performing art could be culinary art literary art we all have a talent and a gift and we want people to find what that is and then we're gonna try to give them a platform to to express themselves so there you go oh that was that was well said I think that's a good spot to end everyone does have a talent and uh yeah so thank you Eddie McGee you inspire us and exciting when when you and your team there and the Stokes County Arts Council puts it all together makes it happen so we can be a part of that too hope you have a wonderful July coming up and then we'll talk again soon sounds great Mike and glad to hear you back on the radio and and getting well and you mentioned the word team and we're all part of that and we appreciate you being one of the leaders of the team so you're so kind talking to me next one okay you been thanks Eddie appreciate it Mike thanks Mike that's our friend Eddie McGee he's executive director of the Stokes County Arts Council yes please follow them on all social media and um so many as I said so many great opportunities for you to get out and enjoy all of these um talents that they bring to us again that stokes arts dot org and then on facebook at Stokes County Arts Council Arts Council was established in 1975 you know what it just gets better and better and that we appreciate your support too [BLANK_AUDIO]
