Hi there, and Happy New Year, it's our final day of Queer Cheer. Later, why Ian McCallen is old Queen goals? First though. Queer people in New South Wales in Australia are getting more rights, and new equality law means, amongst other things, trans people can change their birth certificate without perjury. Liberal MP Felicity Wilson went against her own party to vote for this. She addressed her critics in Parliament. "Allowing an individual to change their sex on their birth certificate is deeply personal and impactful. Those who claim it will create risk for women of fear mungering. I've never been asked to show my birth certificate to enter a bathroom or to enter a sports change room. It's a matter of dignity, autonomy and individual rights." The new law also means birth certificates are going to have a non-binary option, and threatening to out someone whose LGBTQ+ becomes an offence. Next, the first transgender football team in Spain. Phoenix FC has made its debut in a regional league in Catalonia. They actually lost 19-0, but will gloss over that. The team was set up by Hugo Martinez, who was forced out of a women's side when he started transitioning. Captain Lucie Barners tells Reuters, "The importance of this goes beyond sport." Phoenix is a team of trans boys created entirely by trans boys, but I think it's more than that, a family, a safe space, a space where you can be free and express yourself however you want, and how you really feel. A Tiktokka says, "You can now pay for the rest of a transition, thanks to being so very demure." This is the buzzword that's big on socials right now, off the back of it, a video by beauty influencer Jules Lebron has blown up big time. "You see how I do my makeup for work? Very demure, very mindful. See how I look very presentable? The way I came to the interview is the way I go to the job. Be mindful of why they hired you. Here's your reality check, Diva. What's the name you'd like me to make it out to?" Jules' Tiktoks are now racking up many, many millions of views leading to lots of lucrative opportunities and a success is having a very meaningful impact. "One day I was playing cashier and making videos on my break and now I'm flying across country to host events and I'm going to be able to finance the rest of my transition. I finally said it without crying." Jules says for her, "Demure is a playful nod to a trans identity." Thousands of crickets have been released into an anti-transgender conference, led to 600 awful people being evacuated from the LGBT Alliance meeting in London, activists from a group called Trans Kids deserve better, say they were behind it. "And when I'm an old queen, and I'm not far off, I hope I can party like Ian McKellen. The 85-year-old actor's been spotted at roast, which is advertised as London's beefiest club night, he was photographed posing with two topless men."
