(soft music) - Welcome to Inside the Pages, presented by the Ocean by Apostolic Church, located at 2-4-5-1-2. Alabama, highway, 10. Dixon Mills, Alabama. Sunday School begins at 9.30 a.m. Early worship at 11 a.m. And we can stay Bible-studied at 6.30 p.m. And we believe the Bible is the Word of God. Therefore, we're bold, we believe in faithful. We believe the best way to face opposition is by obedience to the Word of God. The Lord has blessed us, and here we are in 2025. And so we want to say happy new year and best wishes and obedience in what we do, let's do it unto the Lord. And God will bless. Again, I want to thank you for listening to the service of El Shaddai, Apostolic Church. If you're looking for a church on the Grove in chemistry, I want to invite you to join us, grow with us, and be blessed with us. Father, in the name of Jesus, Lord God, we thank you for your goodness and grace. We thank you, Lord God, for your mercy and your kindness. You brought us over. And here we are, Lord God, at the beginning of a new calendar year, we just want to say thank you for your kindness and how you have blessed us. It is your goodness that has brought us this far. Oh God, and we just want to honor you for your kindness and all that you've done. But God, help us to live according to your will, live according to your righteousness. In Jesus' name, amen. Again, we thank God for you that are listening to those that are on their way. Those that will be listening later, you know, the different time zone. The Lord has blessed us to land on multiple continents and there are people listening in my hope and prayer, not just mine, but all of us, all of us are hoping and praying that for Israel to be saved. Natural Israel and spiritual Israel. And we're in the book of Genesis. We're touching what is referred to as the law of particularization. We're moving from general to the particular, the earth, the universe, man, and spear. We're touching the creation and the principle person who is the cosmological cause of the law thing and the technological designing mind behind everything. And so we're going to go, we're going to jump into the lesson, which is the 38th chapter of Genesis, beginning at verse 12. And we're going to travel through this and it's going to take us where we need to go. Thank God for my wife being here, so I have to help. You know, and so many ways. Let me say this right quick. I'm so excited because we have a very class starting on January 24th. That's every fourth Sunday, 24th, the last Sunday. Every, she keeps me in check. Every fourth Sunday is the minister's class. And it's a class that you don't want to miss. It's going to last. The 26th. All right, the 26th. See, I told you she keeps me in check. The 26th of January and is going to last through the end of the year. And now this is a required class for license power at El Shaddai and if you're being faithful to your service in the, and the Lord is blessed and your pastor is recommended for you to be exalted in servitude, then this is a class that you don't want to be involved in because it's certainly going to help keep you and give you proper perspective in the offices of ministry and biblical principles as well as discipline that is going to help you enhance your walk in Christ. And so, just like we do in our professional, our vocation, we go to school, we learn things that we need to know when we start a new job, they have stuff and information that they want you to learn. It is the same in the body of Christ. And we see that throughout the Bible as well. And so, we're not going to go into that tonight, but I'm excited about it. Just want to bring it to your attention. For more information, visit connectingtruth.org. That is connectingtruth.org. And if you can also visit us on Instagram, that is inside.the.pages on Instagram and you'll see information there as well. All right. So, we're going to go into the book of Genesis, the 38th chapter, beginning at verse 12, and this is going to take us where we want to go so that our next Bible class is going to launch us into a series of messages called the birth of a nation. And that will, that will complete the book of Genesis once we've come to the end of that, but we'll do a recap, a high recap of what has been going on, leading up to the birth of a nation. So, in the book of Genesis, the Bible said the Lord said to Judah to Tamar, his daughter, then said, not the Lord, then said Judah to Tamar, his daughter in law, remain a widow at the Father's house till she left my son be grown for, he said, least pre-venture, he also, he died also, as his brethren did, and Tamar went and dwelt in her Father's house. Now, if you recall, Judah had lost two sons because of their wickedness. The loss of their life was because of their wickedness. And Judah's third son, he was afraid for him. He had already lost two boys, and that were not able to carry on the lineage, and now he has one left. And instead of him giving her to, giving him to wed, he was given him to wed, the wife of her, he sent her away. Now, Judah expressed concern about the death and survival of his last son, at least that's what I'm saying here. And he sends Tamar back home to her Father's house. And going home is not a bad thing under circumstances. It's not always bad. I believe it was good for her to roam, and the reason I believed is because Judah did not want her there. He was concerned and had things, but, you know, we see that these boys, Judah and his brothers, he were troubled, you know, throughout the history that we've seen thus far. And we won't go on to a recap tonight, but we see that they would have been troubled. And so going home don't mean that you have to stay there. And so, and going home, it gives you time to do some things. It gets some time to do some things. Now, the question was asked, what was it like to be a king in those days? Well, as same as it is today, you have authority and power to do things that you want to do, whether you're a good king or a bad king. And so when we do our recap, we'll also touch on that because it's going to take us into talking about a king under the title of Pharaoh. Right. And so that's where Joseph is now in Egypt. And that's where we're going to pick up on next week. So, but tonight we're going to conclude talking about Judah and Tamar. All right. And so in the process of time, the daughter of Shua, Judah's wife died and Judah was comforted and went up until the sheep shears to Timma, he and his friend, Hera, the adult might. And he says, in the process of time, meaning that it happened. It came and we deal with the process of time. Things happen. And so when you give a testimony to someone or you might be talking to a friend, I know we don't talk like that. Well, in the process of time, this, you know, it happened. It came to pass. And so the time is filled with different transitions. And Judah's wife transitioned from time into eternity. And that's something that all of us are preparing for. And history has already proven to us. Our parents have already proven to us in different loved ones that today come that there is a transition that we step out of time into eternity. And when that happens, are you ready? Are you ready for what happens next? Because we only know from the Word of God. And that is the purpose of salvation. We are saved with the hopes of being saved. And so transition occurs. Now, time is filled. And so it was, I was listening to an analogy about life and the minister said life is like the game of monopoly. So whoever has most money wins. And when the game is over, all the items are placed back in the box and I was sitting in and I was thinking about what he said. You know, but I was also thinking about what he didn't say. And so at the end of the game, the one who had the most money is the one who wins. The one that had their hands on you the most. At the end of the day, when monopoly game is over, I'm comparing life to monopoly game two. Who had their hands on you the most? Was it the enemy? Or is it God? Who can claim the price? And so we have to really think about what we're doing in this life. And so when we go back and we look, we have to check even our day to day to day that we live in to understand like, who men? Who had their hands on me the most? Was it the enemy at the end of the day? Or was it God? The scripture goes on and say that Judah was comforted. It doesn't say how he was comforted. But he found some help somewhere. Judah went up to unto his sheep shears with Tammy. And he and his friend, they all went there because they had investments. And that was in sheep. And the sharing of the sheep means to remove the wool, the wool off of them. Okay. And that's when they would sell it. Okay. So they're there into making some money right now. And Tamar, the 13th verse says, and Tamar saying, "Behold, that father-in-law goes up to Tampa to share his sheep." And she put on a widow's garment off her. She pulled it off. And so she's no longer dressed as a widow because that's what she was. Remember, she was married. The gentleman that she was married to died. And a second son who she was married to, he died. And so she is a widow. She's a widow. And she's wearing widow's garment. And in wearing that, she realized that she had not, she had not received the son that she was looking for. Meaning that Judith said, "Look, when my son, Sheila gets a little older, then I'm going to allow you to y'all to get married to continue on to see the bloodline." And so she took off the widow's garment and she covered herself with a veil and wrapped herself and sat in an open place, which is by the way. And for she saw that, that Sheila was grown. So she knew that time had come and gone. And what's right is right. And she's looking forward to being justly satisfied. Yeah. Because back in those times, it was so important for families to have an heir. And that's when she was after getting an heir because I remember when you were saying something about this time I'm going home. But in that day and time, when you went home and you were a widow, it really was dangerous. And Judith could have allowed her to stay. I don't think that the youngest son was so young that she had to wait a number of years. I believe he was like somewhere like a teenager, but he was not quite an adult where he could get married without permission. So if he just said she had to wait a couple of years, you know, for this son, when she went into a contract with Judith, saying that, okay, I'll give you that son. Well, when he sent her home, there is a danger of her being out on her own. They gave her a loss of income that she had now to depend on. Her father or if her father was still alive or whoever was there. It often made her, you know, an object of limited property rights. Like if the man that she and her or old man had, she didn't, she's not entitled to it anymore. And she has no protection because anybody can come in with the business dealings and they would take advantage of her. And socially, she was isolated because now even married women don't want to be around her because she's a widow. It was like a sign of misfortune or bad luck, you know, like something is wrong with her or whatever because she's twice little now. And so now he'll do the since her home, since her way. And while she's waiting for Sheila to grow up or to get legally of legal age to get married, he doesn't send for her. He doesn't, you know, do, she doesn't hear from him at all. So somebody tells her that now here's Judah, your father lies on his way to sheer sheep. He's about to make some money because he has all these sheeps. And when she hears about it, she devises this plan where she's saying I'm going to get back with him. He didn't come to me, so I'm going to go to him. She, he didn't do it. She broke that contract that they had together. And so she's desperate for this heir so much so that she devises this plan to deceive Judah. And this is where she comes in with taking off the widow hood clothes. Not sure what that was, but more than likely she had to dress in in black or dark clothes, wear a veil over her face. Something just, just to let people know that she's a widow. So here she is, she takes that off and now she put some, she transfers into some other clothing because it says that that she had on a veil with a, for widow, but now she has on another veil because it says that Judah is not able to identify who she is. Right. You know, it's interesting because, you know, and all that you're saying and the truth behind that because we look at these people we're reading about them and we're not really, many times or not, people are not identifying and thinking about the life that they lived of what these people were going through. And they're not, they're going through the same and similar things that we're going through today is that what we call the society, but she heard about him coming and they didn't have no technology but word was to certainly traveling fast to get them, you know, without any, what we call modern form of communication, news travel. He did without a phone. And she had time enough to devise a plan and he still had not gotten where she was. So she got in between the place he was going with Timner and she gets in between where he is and where he's going. Now, when I looked at this also, because as you said, she's not happy. She's, she's not happy. And so she disguised herself and she went to that place. She's seen by Judah. Now, we can't ignore this. So I'm going to have to go here with it. Judah is traveling. And the thing about him traveling is he's tired. He wanted to relax. He's uptight. And he's desiring. And so, you know, another word for that is that the man is traveling and he sees her. And he is entreated by her. He's warning. Because it said when he saw her, he thought that she was a harlot because she had covered her face. That's the 15th verse. And he turned unto her. And he didn't turn unto her because he wanted some water. Maybe he got some water, but I mean, you know, let's, let's deal with the reality of what transpired here as well. And he goes in and he said, "I pray that let me come in unto thee." For he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, "What would I give me that thou me as coming?" So now we have, we have an exchange for service. Right. So Judah is not committing adultery. That's the first thing we need to understand. This is not adultery because his wife is dead. But he is with him. You know, he's just playing old prostitution. So, yeah. So now he talks to her. But here's the thing, prostitution at that time was common because they in the land of Canaan. And it was common because the prostitutes would serve the Canaanite gods. And they were elements of religious cults. So they used the prostitutes for different things. Like they wanted to use prostitution to improve the crops or to, you know, increase the flocks or whatever. So they would use the prostitutes and they would have sexual origins and all these kinds of things. So it wasn't unusual for men to be with the prostitute. The thing of it is public prostitutes were more respect than the private prostitutes that makes any sense. Yeah. Because if they call a woman in private being a prostitute, she was punished. Yeah. Like she could die. She could be killed, stolen the death or whatever. But a public prostitute is like she worked for the company or the temple or the guys or whatever. So it was kind of like that. So she, when he saw her and he, you know, he tried to make this the other, you know, coming into you. I was just bringing that point out that it wasn't adultery. This is just plain old prostitution. Now kids don't try to set home. If you, if your wife has passed or your husband has passed and you feel it in your flesh, don't run out and get with nobody. Okay. Because that is illegal. And so don't, don't play this game at home. And certainly it is outside the will of God. Now Judah did a lot of things along with his brothers that were outside the will of God as well. And so we, we, we'll do that on the, on the recap. Now, he went into her and, and she agreed. And he said, I will send the, a kid in the flock cause he really, he was traveling. He didn't have no money or anything on him to give her. And she said, what will, what will you give me? And what about the signal, the ring that you're wearing, the bracelet and the staff that's in your head? You, you laugh and go ahead. I was just saying cause when she asked that question, she was like, what am I getting out to deal? Like, you know, you want to come in and be, what am I getting out? And she didn't immediately answer him. It just goes to show, she was a shrew business woman. In other words, she was saying, I'm now in control. When I was in your house, you told me what to do, when to do, you sent me to my dad's home. Now you in my plane, in my field, the bottle is in my court. So now you want to come in to me, tell me what I'm getting out of the deal. So then this is where she starts to negotiating, which she wanted from him. Interesting, it's interesting, but that's, that's a very good point. You know, don't do, don't do nothing for nothing. You know, we start saying that, you know, you're getting, you're getting a milk for free. You know, and, and you're not receiving anything. So Judo was intrigued by his dog, not knowing it was his daughter in law. Never knew it the entire time. Isn't that amazing? Because, man, she's been married to two of his sons and lived there, but he doesn't even know her voice or her mannerism. Something should have told him, this, I've heard this voice. Right, yeah. Yeah. Wow. So he makes their offer. And, but for her, it wasn't about the money. It was not. And she covered herself by taking the, the ring and the staff and the different things to justify that she had been with someone. If it, she's thinking ahead. Exactly. That if this should come up and if she meets the goal that she had was to have a seed from that family. Oh my gosh. And then this is the thing that when I was reading this, I was like, she asked for something because Judo's word did not mean a hell of being. Mm-hmm. You promised me before that you were going to give me your son. Right, right. And you did not keep your promise. So here it is. You're saying, you're going to give me a kid goat now, if I lay with you now. What, I need some assurance because you lie before, you be lying now. Uh-oh. I lie with you and then I never see a goat or anything else. So, hey, I need some reassurance that I'm going to get something out of the deal. You're going to give me a goat, give me something right now that I can hold on to until you send me what you say you have. So she didn't trust him because his word did not hold water. She felt this was, wow, that's, she felt this was necessary. She felt this was necessary. She felt this was necessary. She felt this was necessary. She felt this was necessary. She felt this was necessary. She felt this was necessary. She felt this was necessary. She felt this was necessary. She felt this is necessary. Ladies and gentlemen, don't, don't run out and do this. As I said, after she accomplished the mission of Reproduc, that's what she was looking for. Mm-hmm. Yes. She was looking for what belonged, what she felt she had a right to. And she arose, the 19 verses, she arose and went away and laid by her veil from her. So she took a veil off and she put back on the clothing that identified her as being a widow. Yes. And so she put back on, she took off the disguise that she had on. Right. And no telling what else disguised, you know. And she knew what to do to get the job done. Mm-hmm. And Judo went, sent the kid by the hand of his servant or his hand of his friend to receive the pledge. But he didn't find her. Mm-hmm. Because she really didn't exist. She didn't. She was, she was not a prostitute. No. She played the role. Yeah. But that was not her character. Right. And she wasn't, you know, right is right. Mm-hmm. And we got to do what's right and not, because look, she didn't have a reason to trust him as she said. She did. Then they went searching, I'm going to paraphrase some of this because I know that, you know, she went, they went searching for her. They could not find her. And they returned to Judo and said, "We cannot find her." And also the men of the place said, "They don't know nothing about a harlot in that particular area." You know, she was there just for him. Right. Just for that specific purpose, and she sought him out. And Judo said, "Let her take it to her." And at least, we'll be ashamed. So he's trying to make sure that she pays. And so that it's not up on him, if anything should come up. So he attempted this time, this time, to keep his word. But she had other plans. And you see, Judo had not did what was right by Tamar. And see, that's when the guy couldn't find the prostitute. When he said, "I don't even ask the locals." And they were saying, "There's no prostitute in the area." Tamar went to an area where, you know, prostitutes would have been. But that particular time, there was nobody there. But her. So it's kind of like everything is playing in her, you know, playing out for her, just like she wanted it. And now that she can't be found, Judo says, "Let's just let it go." Because if we dig into it, people, and keep searching for her, people are going to find out that I slept with a prostitute. What? Yeah. And he didn't want to make, he didn't want to be made shamed. And he didn't want it to be public, ridicule. So he didn't want nobody to know about it. And so he just said, "Let's just leave that alone." And he just wanted to just, she got the ring, she got the staff, she got the bracelet, just let her keep it. She has a receipt for service. So we see and understand Judo did not do what was right. He threw the widow out, sent her away. Left her alone in a male-dominated place. No security until she had arrived home. But even still, she was going to be criticized and talked about. But while she was there, she strategized. And that's the thing. When you go home, you're going to have to, when you find yourself in a situation, don't set around and mope and get depressed. It may be depressing. Now, I'm not wanting to say, "Oh, people don't get depressed." Nothing like that. No, you do become deflated from time. And sometimes you need to be inflated. She thought about it. And she strategized. And she recovered about recovering from the issue that she was in. The 24th verse says, "It came to pass about three months after that it was told you to send Tamar that daughter-in-law has played the Harley." And also, "Behold, she is with child by boredom." Because we don't know her for being married to anybody. Certainly she's not married to your son. And Judas said, "Bring him forth." Now, listen, he's talking about "Bray her forth." He's ready to pass judgment. He's ready to get busy and to point the finger. And all the Judas may have thought he had a way out of the promise that he had made to her. No one knew that it was her, not Judas at all, that was the one that satisfied the tracks that he had when he was traveling. I'm sure, and as we see accusations flew, she played the Harley. She was criticized. The criticisms were thrown at her. And it's like they was ready to tear and feather her. You know, they were going to shake and bake her. He conceals his scene. He didn't tell anybody about why he didn't have his seat in the ring. He didn't tell anybody what happened to his bracelet. Gentlemen, don't lose that ring from home. I left that ring in the bathroom and, you know, I'll let you know. Ministers that have rings, you might be wearing a bishop's ring or a pre-lay ring or, you know, a postal ring or something like that. Don't come home talking about you left at the church. Ain't nobody sitting. No, I'm just kidding. You have me. You didn't have those things, but those things meant something. Because the pregnant ring was like his signature with a symbol of authority. So him just saying she can just have it. That meant something, though. And even the staff. You know, the staff was like that. A shepherd's rod. It was a symbol of his position and his authority. And history. Yes. So then at rod, there was marking of history, family training. Yes, and these all have marks on it that let people know that that was his staff. It wasn't something that she just got from anybody. Right. Like you said, it had the markings on it. Now, like people today, the matter was judged before that time. And people are already criticized and talking about it. But, you know, I just want to remind everyone at First Corinthians, they didn't have this first, but I'm there. I can go to a lot of Old Testament scripture that talk about fair judgment. But this particular verse says, "Therefore judge nothing before the time until the Lord come. Who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the counsel of the hearts and then show every man know and have praise of God." Now, I know that what this is talking about as far as the coming of the Lord and judgment. But we have to understand that judgment, I believe it's in the scripture. It tells us that judgment begins in my house. And so when we talk about Judah, Judah is part of the house. Yes. And so judgment is constantly reading about areas of judgment that occur throughout the scripture, even in Genesis, as we have been studying. And just going all the way back to Abraham, where God was there watching and navigating everything that was going on. He navigated, God was making corrections to bring his plan. So let's just go here for a moment. None of this is just happening that is going to fall out of the will of God, where his plan is not accomplished. And so even though we see these things and we see how these people, how they lived as well as how we may have. And as well as relatives or others that we know have lived shenanigans, God's will is still going to be done through all of this. And that is so amazing. So when we, the 25th verse says, when she brought forth, when she was brought forth, she said to her father-in-law saying by the man who these are, am I with child? And she said, "Desert, I pray the who these, the signant, the bracelet and the staff who belong to in Judah, acknowledged them and said she had been more righteous than I. He did something right. He did something right. He confessed that he was wrong and that she was right. Because she had to prove, exactly, that he was the one that came in and laid with her. Now he has to face the reality of his own sin, you know, the shame and the guilt. He had a sexual encounter with the woman. He believed to be a prostitute. And now he has this fear of public exposure. Now they're going to find out because she, when he says to bring her forth, you know, oh, everybody, the word has prayed. Oh, Tamar is pregnant. Tamar, oh, Judah has sent for her. Let's go and see what's going to happen. But when she comes and she comes with his things, now he has, like you said, he acknowledges those items or his and he admits that he was wrong. He failed to keep his promise. Now he can see where she's going with this. And not only that, but she's pregnant with twins, that 27 verse says, and it came to pass in a time of her travail that behold twins were in her womb. And it came to pass when she travail, she's bringing forth that she's in full labor that one put forth his hand and the midwife took and bound his hand with a scarlet thread so that she would know, you know, to identify them. And it came to pass that when she, the child drew back his hand and behold, the brother came out and said, how is that? It's broken forth. So the one that had the three, you would have thought was going to come forth, the first one, but that's not so. It was the one that was, that did not have a thread on. The second twin, all of a sudden, came forth and was born first. And it says, this breach be upon thee, therefore, his name was called "Fress." And I believe you pointed something out about this earlier. Yeah, because when you read that, it says that this breach be upon thee, therefore, his name was called "Fress." So, okay, the word "reach" is an act of breaking. And when you think about this breaking, I was thinking about the breaking forth that he came before the other one, that it was that breaking. But I think that it was the breaking of the contract that Judah had with Tamar from the very beginning. He broke that law. That was a law that he broke. It was a live-right marriage where it was because of the inheritance, to keep that family's name or to keep the inheritance there. So it was a live-right law that Judah actually broke with her. And so when he did, because it was a custom, that if a deceased man had brothers, those brothers were to marry this widow, so to ensure the continuation of a family line. And Judah broke that law. He breached the contract that Tamar had with him. And so here this child, "Fress," is being born, and they named him "Fress" because of the breach. But that breach was not the breach of the birth. It was the breach of the law contract between Judah and Tamar. So some of the things that we go through then is symbolic of the lifestyle or the things that we have done. And so, you know, we see this and it just makes it more clear that we have to be careful what we do, because right is right. Right is right. And Judah even said that he had to admit that Tamar's actions were because of him not keeping his promise. That's why she did what she did. She never would have went out and played the harlot. Had he kept his promise with Sheila. So he said she's more righteous than I am, even though this lady is a Canaanite. And that she should, you know, I'm the one that's supposed to be following the right way. But here it is, a Canaanite woman is more righteous than I am. And so he repented and he never had relations with her again. So Jesus Christ came through that breach and for real. Now, the question comes up as far as, because you mentioned the shame. So the question comes up, was it a big penalty or big penalty or chess timesmith? Or was it the shame of the situation that was so weighty? For Judah? Yeah. I think it was the shame in part because there was no laws for them as of yet. Because we hadn't gotten to the part where the law was given, Moses and all of that. It wasn't much more as the shame because Judah was a leader in that area. And he had so many workers under him. Yes. And then he was older. One of the older ones, so the leaders with the brothers, he was one of the leaders. And so I think it was more or less a shame. You know, they were knowing that he went out and did what he did. And then as far as Tamar, there was no penalty. I believe you expressed and talked about that before. Because of the culture. Exactly. Where she was and how the people in that area, the Canaanites worshiped. Exactly. They were idle worshipers and stuff. There was no penalty based upon that. Because they believed in certain freedoms that we don't practice. Right. It's against the word of God. But the Canaanites didn't follow God. So they had their own little vowels. They worshiped other guys. So for Canaanite women to have women, to be prostitutes, that was nothing wrong with that. Okay. All right. Well, certainly thank God. I mean, this is going to take us in life. We're going to be recapping much of what has been said thus far as we get into the area of the birth of a nation. So again, thank God for his goodness. Thank God for what he is doing and how the Lord is blessing us. You know, the song I said, the Lord is blessing me. And certainly the Lord is blessing us in this particular study on the book of Genesis. And we're also putting this in all of the messages into a book form. The Lord say the same will be available in this year. Certainly thank God for each of you that have taken the time to come out and to get into the word of God. And we solicit your prayers as we go forward to do the will of God. And to, you know, in the minister's class is coming up. We'll certainly be dealing with some subject matters that will be more just as we're taking the time with Genesis and explaining things, painting a clear picture. So therefore, when we connect the dots and looking at people's lives and what they're doing and what things are happening in the lives of individuals, we understand it better. And we can understand it better. And especially certainly some of the stuff we see is a mirror of even ourselves may not be everything. But certainly some of the things principle, ethics, physical, emotional. And yeah, we see things for ourselves. And so just want to thank God for that.
