Welcome to another episode of the Tuesday Sour Grapes Show, talking about NXT. It's me, Alex and also Kate. We're very happy to be here. Thank you, Netflix. Kate, how was your day? Oh, well, today I woke up and I did my morning meditation where I gave gratitude to Netflix and then I waved like a celebrity, which we did a lot of on FightfulSelect.com. Last night we had a lot of fun talking about Raw, didn't have a bunch of fun watching it so much. It was fun talking about it where we were just all night, all night waving like celebrities and, of course, to the wonderful people in the back and thanking Netflix as if we were so lost to CoA, but we've got a lot to talk about on this NXT post show, obviously we're two new champions. The rock came by and said words, most of them foul for our dear friend Dwayne. Most of them curse words, but so much to get into, so much going on at FightfulSelect.com as well. I think Alex was the first one to say like Obafemi is the guy because he was doing that way back in the days where we were getting vignettes of him shot, putting couches and Alex said, not only am I on the train, though, but February train, I'm the conductor. I believe in the train to to I am on the way with Obafemi. So very satisfying moment for people who've been following his trajectory and a very cool thing. And then as far as Roxanne Perez goes dropping the title to Julia tonight, I was told by Corey Brennan that there are multiple people backstage that do believe that she is getting called up. That's not a surprise with royal rumble season being around the corner course that midcard title picture to on both brands heating up Bailey's not doing a whole heck of a lot right now. They've had the one main roster match that Roxanne has had. I think there's there's some things they could capitalize on there. So sounds like from what Corey Brennan has heard from a few people that Roxanne poised for a call up. We will see if and when that happens. Some other notes from Corey about another Corey who was featured on tonight show Corey Graves this looks like it was a one off or not going to be a routine thing. He's not a permanent fixture on the NXT desk. He was in the black and gold era for a bit, but looks like here just was the overlapping locations that were a part of this much like I don't believe the rock is going to be back every week. I don't think Corey Graves is going to be back here every week. So a one off or an infrequent appearance there and just getting ahead of the curve on a couple of things to Zarya was not featured on the show tonight. Some people were just kind of asking or sniffing around that because we saw Steph Beck here be in line for that North American title. We saw Julia go over some people were like, where's the third of the big three? But she does have that storyline with soul Rooka just wasn't featured on tonight's show, but she's clear. She's fine. She's ready to rock and roll. So just those few notes. I did ask Corey if you heard anything about Trig Williams also possibly being called up. I have not heard back, obviously that went happened later in the show. So it may take him a little bit more time, but Corey Brennan doing some great work for us over on FightfulSelect.com best six dollars in the biz. All sorts of stuff going up there this week, including Chris Charlton. He on the news of pan side is so much happening. A lot of contract news that came up Kenny Omega, you know, Sean had reported that he was cleared by Wrestle Dynasty, or I'm sorry, by world dent. We've had concerns certainly about the booking, but of all the things that are not to be much happening around, the rock coming to NXT and essentially saying nothing was a choice. But very glad he had that on screen moment with Ethan Page. But a big New Year's Evil tonight, it did kind of have like a bigger show feel I think kind of past years. >> Yeah, right, they were trying to do something they wanted to do. There was that thing at seven, eight, I don't know, maybe it was over a year ago. I don't know, what was the time where they brought Cody to stand there and announce a tag team tournament that we already knew was going to happen? They did that, John Cena was on the show, Paul Heyman was hanging out. They felt like they were trying to do that on very short notice with just the rock. And I mean, I don't know how many tickets they moved. They were like lots of good tickets still left and still available last night when they announced the rock was going to be on. I don't know if they sold out overnight. I mean, if that was the case, then I guess they achieved what they wanted to achieve. But he didn't add anything to the in-house proceedings. The backstage thing with Ethan Page was kind of cool. But that could have been a pre-take, this was just, I don't know what the hell this wasn't the end of the show. I mean, I'm not sure. I wanted to mention this. Here we are. So, I don't know, so nationalistic, so isolationist in our views and only talking about the US. This show was on Netflix outside the US. Because I've never really been a big fan of Corey Graves, however, if you're telling me I can listen to one of the two color commentators, Corey Graves or Booker T, I'll take Corey Graves one million times out of one million, and he was just seeding the floor to Booker T who could yell about nothing, and then occasionally Corey Graves would actually have to call a nearfall because Vic Joseph is arguing with Booker T about something. Can you do it in the voice of Jesse Ventura? No, it's not a conspiracy theory, here is my theory. You're awesome theory. They taped the New Year's Eve episode on December 19th. It is now January 7th, so they had 12 days, they had 19 days. I do not believe that the plan was, let's injure Eddie Thorpe with a kayfabe injury before the triple threat, have him come in three quarters of the way through it, brandishing the chair that he never uses to swing at anybody, and then he'll be the one that causes the whole thing to put, and that's how we're going to protect Trick Williams. I think they had a plan in place, went away, and then during those 19 days, they started second-guessing themselves. They were like, "No, that's not going to work. Oh, this is better. What if we did this?" They said, "Oh, I have a crazy galaxy-brained idea. What if Obafemi attacks Eddie Thorpe before the thing?" Like, it just felt like they had everything set, then they went away for the holidays, and then they changed everything, because what we got tonight to start with, Eddie Thorpe having been based, having been attacked on a staircase backstage, and Eddie been like, "I don't believe you. You lied to me about you being attacked the last time, so I think you're lying now," and people are being like, "No, I'm sore, I didn't lie," and that is so convoluted. I just feel like that was a thing that they did, because they were bored over the holidays. Alex, that feels so in line with what they always give us. This one is specifically bad to me. I think it just hurts you more, because it involves Obafemi. It actively hurts Eddie Thorpe, which it shouldn't need to. Just do a triple threat match. There's no reason to not just do a triple threat match. It was hurt, and they had to like, "A-fave him out of there." Just do a triple threat match. It was just very, very odd to me that they came up with all of this stuff. It feels very, very, very much like a panic re-book. I agree with you, except I feel like I think it feels in line with what they do, because one, good for Ava, she's smarter than 90% of referees to not fall for it the second time. Except for this time it was true. That's the other thing, is it makes her to look like she's jumping to conclusions and not believing her talent. Yeah, but she, listen, I get it. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me, right? But I think they think this is like a, they tend to do this thing where they think you've said this too, and I agree. Like, they think they're swerving us, but what they're doing is just doing something that doesn't make sense. Like, I think the first thing with Eddie Thorpe was a swerve. But to your point, it does feel like this was, I live in the great state of Jersey, and to go left, we have to go right. We have to do something called a jug handle, and it feels like they just can't help themselves from taking the jug handle instead of like being able to just turn left. So I feel like it feels in line with how they normally book, but I feel like how they normally book feels like rushed last minute makes no sense booking. So it's hard to say. It's hard to say. I just don't bio, but then he needs to take anybody out. But this is the thing, is that's part of this whole thing, why it makes it so unbelievable to me. Anyway, we'll talk more about that later. Ryan Japini says that I thought all the wrestlers make grace use to their time with them losing so much time from the rock being their great professional show. Yeah, I have nothing bad to say about any of the wrestlers themselves. No, the matches were really good tonight. Tim McFall says, "Ova and Julia are our champs. Thank you, Netflix." It's obviously is a Netflix. Thank you, Netflix. And so that's nice. And I love you, Netflix. And so that remains the screw Netflix. Thank you, gymnastics. No, no, that would be of Kalani or Ursula Ruka one. Yeah. Meet Normous says, "Julia and Ova winning was great. Anything else that happened? I'll allow Alex to handle. Don't worry, I'll handle it. If this were on Netflix, it would be a hundred out of ten in the Topio Dome." So thank you, Meet Normous. Except for the women's matches, which would still be at a 4-9-9-9-9-9. And I didn't even necessarily mind the late-game shenanigans because it called directly back to the shenanigans in the first match and helped to tell the story. And it didn't lead to the wrong choice being made. You know what I mean? Right. Yes. So, this was just excellent. Like Roxanne Perez is everything they say she is. And she's only going to get better. She is the prodigy. Like, this match was excellent. Julia is incredible too. What impresses me so much about Roxanne among several things is her versatility to work with anybody's ring style at her age is unreal to me. Like, she does not look overwhelmed. She does not look at a loss at any point. And Julia is a tough cookie to be in the ring with and Roxanne is small. So, I mean, she literally doesn't have a lot of life and wrestling experience to be so good at working with so many different types of ring styles and acclimating what she does so well to all of them. I'm continually in awe of her match pacing at her age as well. She knows exactly when to turn on the gas and exactly when to let things breathe. I hope that when she goes up to the main roster, they just let her be the prodigy. Like, some of my biggest, all of my complaints really, with NXT are just the way that they they actively hold back talent by adding on creative layers that are unnecessary. Where if you just let talent shine like Roxanne can shine and just let her be the prodigy because she's this damn good at this age. Like, just let her be that. So that's what I would like to see on the main roster. I think this match was excellent. And I do think that NXT doesn't always do the best with how they handle booking title reigns specifically. Roxanne's ring work has at least exceeded expectations in a way that she has a reign where I can look back on stuff and go, that match was excellent, that match was excellent, that match was excellent. Where I feel like, unfortunately, and I think trick Williams is great. But I don't feel like he's been given the title reign until super, super recently to be able to say that match was great, that match was great. Ethan Page, you guys know how I feel about him. He's one of my favorites at all of wrestling. I can't say that about his title reign, not because of the talent, but because of the booking. Roxanne has been able to overcome that in the second reign in particular. The first one was really just that make-o match that worked. But Tiffany Stratton shared the match against Becky, but the Thea Hale stuff was not very good. I don't know what the hell happened to ChaseU. That just doesn't exist right now. But I'm happy that when I look back on her time in NXT, even though some of the, I'm a heel now, stuff is not great. I can point to matches and say, these were the moments that led her to be a main roster fiend. I'm, 'cause she's gonna be one, she's gonna be one. So, very excited for her if this is her swan song. I don't think you, they may try. But I don't think you can deny her on the main roster. You know what I mean? I think she's just that damn good. They also need it right now. They have two women's mid-card titles right now like that demand more. They do need it, but it remains to be seen of what they, they may indeed just silo off one of their main titles with a thing that is only about that only one person is allowed to do any of it. And so we're just gonna sit there and wait. And wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, rematch after rematch after rematch. And like, they might do that. They've just, they just maybe finished with one of those type of stories, but it might also be continuing 'cause you never know. So if that's the case and she just hangs out backstage and occasionally gets, like, it looked for a while that they were going to do something with Lyra Bell Curia. They may still, she may end up being the first of her Intercontinental Women's Champion, but for several months, she was doing nothing. And she was the NXT Women's World Champion before Roxanne. I happened to rate Roxanne Perez far above Lyra in my own personal judging of what their ceilings could be. But honestly, who knows with any of these people? I think, I don't think you should even try to deny her, but I don't think you can. I think she's damn damn good. And I think that other women, the other top women up there, are going to want to work with her. They're going to say, I want to do a program with her. And I think that will certainly help her in the long run. She's, yes, they're just excellent. God, like E over versus Roxanne. Right, I know. Like, give me 20 minutes of that tomorrow, all day. I don't think, I don't think that she should win the Royal Rumble. But I think she should be the final four. Yeah, I grew with that. You know what I mean? Like, I think- Make the statement, make the statement. Have her debut on the main roster in the Royal Rumble. Around 14 and last until almost the very end. Like, that would be a really, really cool thing for her. I think there could be some really great stuff they could do with her, but she's just excellent. And Julia, I mean, if this is her, indeed, there's one on this one where we're focusing so much on Roxanne, we might not be able to talk to her about her on the show for very much longer. But Julia, we will be able to talk about for a while. Yeah, I think so. She's everything she was said to be in coming over here. Just to hit so damn hard, sells great excellent footwork, just a brilliant wrestler all around. I'm very, very, very impressed with her and also, and I'm interested to see what she can do as a champion, working with all of those other women who are close to that level. Julia pulling Jada Parker up because Jada Parker seems to me like the kind of woman who would take a challenge and be like, I'm going to match that. Well, she did with Roxanne too. We saw that match and that was great. I think that Jada with Roxanne was a different kind of vibe to me because of how they were playing that relationship. My favorite thing that they never really brought up again really because they had Jada siloed off into stuff with Lola Vise and other people. Is that remember that little face-to-face interview backstage with Jada and Roxanne and then she smacked Roxanne out of her chair? Who the hell are you? Oh yeah, I know you. You can get some too. They never paid that back to that. I don't think we ever I don't of course me if I'm wrong. I don't remember a Jada Parker and Julia face off ever. This is the perfect time to maybe kind of bring some of that energy back because Jada and Julia together, whoo, like that's that's that could be some really match made in heaven. Like that's yeah, that feels like wrestling soulmate territory a little bit. Yeah, that really does because I think that like, oh, oh wait a minute. So I haven't been hitting these women as hard as I can. You will allow me to do that. You know what I mean? Kind of those things like that. That should be a lot of fun. I think that the end of this match with Cora coming in to like help Cora get sorry, help after the Northern Lights bomb on the outside where Julia is spent and Roxanne is probably unconscious. Cora coming out to roll her back in and Julia breaking making it in for the 10 count. The pop rocks kicking out of it. The big knee and then another Northern Lights bomb to win it. I think was really excellent. The ref kicking out Cora just on general damn principle. That was good. This was all very excellent. This is the right call to make. You keep a title on Roxanne on a woman like Roxanne for this long so that you can put it on somebody like Julia. Like you want to have a really great transition from one great champion to another great champion. Like I agree and I'm also glad because I felt like there was going to be more with the Cora Roxanne relationship and I'm glad I think just because of the timing of the injury for Cora unfortunately we weren't able to maximize the juice that they probably wanted to get out of that. There's also to attack belts around anymore. So I'm glad that they didn't hold back Roxanne in the hopes of elevating Cora further because I think she's too special of a talent and that I do think she is one of the, we're going to be talking about one of the greatest women's wrestlers of all time when her career is a decade from now. I think sooner than that. But what I mean is I think she's that special that she's going to be in the same breath as the way that we talk about the Mercedes's and the Charlotte's and the Eos and the Becky's and Bailey's of the world. So I'm glad that it wasn't like, well, we'll keep her around until after Mania because we want to do this thing with Cora. Let the Julia and Cora picture breathe. Also for me as a viewer, I think we also need to see more from Cora. So I don't think on a timeline that is between now and six months from now we're going to see that elevation at the pace that that would warrant. So I'm excited. I'm excited for Julia title reign before we got the rock. We said before we went on air. It was not electrifying tonight. It was kind of kind of came in with a rolling black out and it was not electrifying. But what was the go home shot really before the rock came out was Obafemi, Julia holding up their titles, cool like production stuff going off around them or whatever. So I anticipate big things from both of those title reigns in different ways. Okay, good. We haven't thanked Netflix in a while either. And I just I want to thank Netflix for giving us Roxanne Perez. I'll explain how later in the show. Okay. I want to thank Netflix. Thank you. I want to thank Netflix. Ryan Schkini says Tiffany, Rhea and Julia champs to lead the future. All three major women's championships have changed hands since Friday. Yeah, how about that, huh? I love it. And none of them are like how old is the oldest one of them? Is Julia over her over 30? No. No, she's not. They're all in their 20s. And they're all the chan- like this is this is a great thing. None of them are part of the four horse women. Like this is this is excellent. Now watch Charlotte come in and win all three titles. Like that's the next step. Is Charlotte comes back and she wins all belt collector Charlotte by beating all three of these women. So Julia is 30 on the nose. And as of October. So yeah, what's great about that to to me is they all have such different strengths and presentations and in rank styles. Like all three of them are so different. Tiffany and Rhea and Julia are all very, very different wrestlers. And can do very different things with very different strengths. So that part excites me too. And you're right. None of the four horse women are involved in this right now. Charlotte coming back for Tiffany. I'm actually not like mad about that either. I would like for Tiffany to win. That's that's the big question, but. It's helped up fun program possibilities. Like I think if Becky does stuff with Lira, Rhea's field is a little bit more open. I think Tiffany and Charlotte is almost a slam dunk at that point. And Julia the the sky's the limit. She just got crowned. So right Tiffany's only 25. My goodness. Just Ricardo says Roxy and Julia with a rock walk off Homer with two on. And yeah, it was it was an amazing, amazing match perfectly put together. Jambiard says Alex, what was better Jada smacking rocks or lash booting the Kita during their interviews. I think we're forget about that pump kick. That was pretty ridiculous. It was pretty amazing. But I think that is a much better much greater chance that you see Jada Parker versus Roxanne Wrestlemania match than you ever see. Correct. Like you could you could call back to that slap in six years when the when they're absolutely killing it on the main roster. I don't think we're ever going to need to call back to the Kita versus lash. I don't think that's a thing we're going to need to call it. Unfortunately, they won't and they'll just be like Dominic Mysterio, you have a crush on one of them. That is what we will get for eight months. Dominic Mysterio and Nikita sounds like a match made in heaven. I don't know like what you're talking about those two are made for each other. Oh, I meant Jada. No, no, no, no, no, no. That's the story line though. That's what they're going to use to elevate Nikita to world title level. Is they're going to give her Dominic? He's like, oh, just goes, Alex, stop now. So they kayfaved a reason why that was now attributable to a specific guy, so that when he came back, he could take revenge on that guy and rip off the cast. And like, that, I like when they actually give you a reason that why we're actually doing something in kayfabe. In reality, oh, I've had this thing with my wrist for a while, but now I kind of need to get it fixed. Okay, cool. We're gonna make it be a storyline for why. And honestly, this would be kind of cool if they did it with Jevon. Honestly, like, it's, I think it's really cool. And if Jevon has the money to, it's probably because Netflix made that possible. Um, so the first women's North American championship contender, uh, was crowned in this match. And they did have won later for some reason. So, uh, this was great. The four way, um, this was Stephanie Vicare bringing three other women up to her level. That is one of those things that I am really going to enjoy about this, um, era of NXT is those three new women dragging women up to their level and saying, you, you hang with me or you get the frick out of the way. Get the F out. Like it's 25 years ago. Like it's 1998. We have to get the F out. Um, and Cora, the look decent here, Kalani looked a lot more hard hitting. Like that's something you're going to have to, you can't just, oh, here's my elbow. Here's my elbow. Here's my, you got to actually lay that shit in if you're going to wrestle against F of care and, and Julia, especially Julia, like you got to do it. You know what I mean? Um, and, uh, and I thought Lola vice like, you know, the obvious, the only one who should have won this, won it. Correct. Good. Correct. You know, like that's sometimes that's a good thing. Sometimes you don't need to do, I thought maybe like, you're like, okay. So they do, they want to extend Fallon Henley's title run by having her beat Lola vice and then face Stephanie Vakar at standing and delivering or something. Or do they just want to like, let's get this, let's get this belt. Cause to me, a two woman power trip of Julia and Steph Vakar is kind of great. Just kind of, kind of excellent. I honestly would, would love it. It would be so great. You know what I mean? Like, I think, so to your point about the match, my only complaint about it was just like, there was no need for Cora to really beat it because she obviously had her sights set on Julia. So like her being in this moment just felt like a mismatch with what we saw in the opener that just felt off to me. Kalani starting to lay her offense in, I think is so important to her development because there's something really cool about extremely athletic, we'd make jokes, right, gymnastics. But like people who have that skill set, if they can learn to lay in their offense really hard on the other side of it, that becomes a really unique recipe of ingredients for a wrestler that that not everybody has. Like Tiffany got better at that too. Tiffany started to lay her stuff in more and it made her a little bit more unique because a lot of people master one side or the other, but not both. So if Kalani can grow in that way and now the booking is also doing things that make more sense for her because she should be frustrated by this. That was her title. She was in matches to get a shot back at it. She's not there. She should be pissed about that. Great, clean, beautiful, makes sense. Good booking for someone who had a title reign that was given to her before she was ready to step into that moment. So I really, really like that. Loba Vice, this just feels like the level she's at. She's had some big wins with Jada, like no problem with her big in this match. Cortis fell out of place after what we saw in the opener. But this was Steph's to win the whole way. I agree with what you said and I think it's one of the most rewarding parts about watching NXT is when you see people start to rise up to the level of people that know what they're doing. Like when an Ethan Page comes in or something like when people come in that have the experience that are more seasoned and it becomes one of those things of a rising tide, raise of ships, right? There probably will unfortunately be some people that can't ride that wave and they're going to be taken off TV and improve or they're going to figure out that maybe wrestling is not for them or this ecosystem doesn't work for them or whatever. So but it's really refreshing that we're getting a bunch of heavy hitters at once because that's just going to lift up the entire product as a whole. Steph is amazing, everything I said versatility wise about Roxanne is true with Steph and she's just so damn smooth in there. Like she's such a smooth operator and I love that Zarya comes in with this F5. Julia comes in and she's going to strike the hell out of you. And then you have Steph who just is a completely different, very fluid, Lucianfused wrestler, all three of these heavy hitters coming in, feel very different, absolutely adore that. Does feel like Zarya is just like and now your friends with Soul Ruka and you're not near any titles all of a sudden it's kind of like what? So I hope they get her on a path because I actually think maybe out of the three like she's the least known one but I think she has an incredibly high ceiling as well. Here's my hope for, I mean a vengeance day is, you know, middle of February, that might be too early to do some of these things but if you're talking about two women's title matches for standing deliver, I want Julia versus Zarya for the world title and for the North American title, Steph versus Soul Ruka. I think that Soul Ruka's game against Steph could be really funny, Steph and also if Soul gets caught by Steph, she's getting a broken back and that is a really cool thing to like Steph like getting a little bit angry about everything and having to work a little stiffer on somebody like Soul who is frustrating but if Soul catches her in the Soul Snatcher, that could be it, like those things. I think that could be really, really excellent. But I would not mind having Julia's first challenge or vengeance day being Jada Parker, I think that'd be kind of a cool thing to like see, okay, let's do that first, we'll get around to that again in the spring maybe, like maybe that's a thing, maybe Jada Parker becomes the Julia Nemesis who actually has to like, is the one who ends up a year from now when Julia gets called up, Jada Parker's the one to beat her, like I really do think those two could have a lot of fun. Yeah, there's something special there. Yeah, just Ricardo says Kalani was on it tonight, the culling is beginning, yeah, they are actively being like, okay, so who are the women who are going to hang with us and Kalani is like, I'm going to hang with you tonight, for sure, I'm hanging with you tonight and then we'll figure out how, yeah, what goes from now. Fantastic first hour, shirtified stars, even Kalani looked great at the pair of six weeks ago, caressed to our new champs for overcoming HBKitis. Hell, even the whack parade looked decent. What world is this?" It's true. And yeah, Louise reminding me of Kalani losing to Julia three weeks ago was the best thing that had happened to her. And rings have been magnetically. Isn't that what the performance center is for? Like, I just imagine like getting Kalani getting an hour of ring time with each of these women every week. Just letting like, if she can learn by osmosis, she's going to improve like crazy. And we're already seeing it, right? So it's like, I was having this conversation with someone, a couple people, this actually came up a few times this week about like, black and gold, because if something is good and wrestling, it has to be overrated at some point. And was the black and gold era lifted up by the fact that the main roster was in such dire and creative straits and it just was decent. And half of that's true and half of it's not. But to me, when I look at the black and gold era and I say, okay, that was developmental, what's the limits test for developmental? How many main roster stars do we have out of it, right? Like all of them, like all of them. So the black and gold era, I feel like undeniably was a success because look at the main roster, it's full of people that were successful on the black and gold brand. And now I figured out how to translate that to the main roster. When I look at the newer era, I see our women's champ, which is great. I see our I see title champ, which is great. I see Carmelo. And that's kind of it. I mean, we had tag champs that included Grace and Waller, but they don't care about the tag title. So forget him, I guess. I think he has the potential to. But like, I think, to your point, like we have to look beyond that, right? Like we can't look at you and I analyze the week to week because it's our job. They need to be locked in on how are we actually helping these people improve? And what does the TV do to help them move along? And I think one of the most detrimental things that they did was give Colami that title. And I think this is a much more interesting story for her. And to your point, we're seeing her rapidly improve without the title. So I feel like they do think so backwards sometimes. I don't work there. I don't know what's going on there. I can't speak to anybody's attitudes or anything like that. But when I look at the products and I look at what the overall mission statement of NXT is supposed to be, which is to create and mold the stars of tomorrow, I feel like they go about it in some really wacky ways on screen. And it feels like maybe the past month and a half or so, they started to straighten that out a little bit. But my God, you have Julia as a champion, you have Obafemi as a champion, just book successful title reigns that aren't so frickin goofy all the time. And I think it'll set things miles ahead. Yeah, I agree. Bob Wagner, sorry, empty cycles. Bob Wagner was there for two minutes. He's like my favorite made roster thing because he stood there in a segment that nobody acknowledged them. Again, I wish they had done more of this with them to build them to possibly because the think of the men's tag division in NXT isn't in great shape, but like, it's not in great shape on the main roster either. So like the blurry boys are absolutely ready to be on the main roster. What 100% they're ready to be in the main roster. So if you were to be calling them up now, Royal Rumble season, I'm totally fine with that. What I would do is I would keep them until stand deliver. I would build a team starting now really week to week, build them as the right team to beat what they call Fraxiom and have them lose and stand and deliver and then go up. What they call Fraxiom, which we say with disdain, which we call here the blurry boys because it's a better name. But I do think yeah, yeah, I agree with you. And I also think a great way to help your tag division along is to tell stories with that division. So like, yes, the tag division is not the best shape of the world. Doing something more than prove it by brawling in various places is not the way to get it on track. My kingdom from an American company that can book their tag division properly, like honest to God, it's so bleak right now. With some really great champions, holy milk. It's unfortunate. There are great tag teams across all all brands, all all companies, but they're just not being utilized. And it, well, Fraxiom DIY, the Viking Raiders and private party all holding tag belts. And nobody, none of them have good stories going on. The creeds are on the main roster right now. Yeah, but allegedly, grizzly young veterans are in are employed at some somewhere. I don't know. Where would that be? Allegedly. They were near to pan strong attack champs for a minute, but they also can't book tag programs in Japan anymore. So they crown in a fatal four way. Number one contenders match for the NXT women's North American championship, because that was the stipulation and the thing on the line. They crowned a new number one contender to that title. They sure did. The very next match, the champion for which that number one contendership had been crowned minutes prior, was pinned in a six woman tag. I promise you, it's only this hard if you make it this hard. I promise. There was so like have Jasmine Nick's take a pinfall for God's sake. Like, I don't know why we this is an extra step that you have to do that I guess gets us a shots versus Stephanie Vuker match, which all right, fine, but like that wasn't the thing you said this match is for the number one contendership. Stephanie wins it later minutes later, shotsy pins Fallon Henley and then says, I believe I should be the number one contender. And I feel like no shotsy, you shouldn't because that wasn't the match you were in. Maybe you'll beat you, you will get a future title shot, but whether it is against Fallon or Steph remains to be seen because they have to have their match first. Fallon doesn't get to go, you guys should fight each other and then I'll get the scraps and Ava goes, that's a good idea. No, you set out, you set what the, you set the parameters. You don't have to go against them because the champion told you to. That doesn't make any sense. I also, they just, they just love to pin champions as a way to set up titles. It's so weird. They did that with um, they did that at the Big ECW show, which also had a legend coming out doing weird things for So I just don't pin your champions. It makes no sense. It makes them feel like they're bad at their job because it's also so rarely done in the right way. It's not done in a program match and it's not um, it's, it's not done with like rarely do you feel like someone like one with a flash pin or outsmarted someone to get that title shot or whatever. No, they just like, they just beat them. Like there's no in-match storytelling that is like so impressive that you're like, oh my god, they beat the champion. Like that feels like uh, no, they just, they just won. Like there's nothing like Holy crap, they were a step ahead of them or oh my god, they really snuck that win. Like, no, they just win. Um, so shots versus Steph for the number one contendership is happening next week. I feel like that's just an extra step to get Stephanie the thing that she was promised to her if she won the match before, which is what she said. I beat three other top contenders by myself. I get the title match because you promised it to me and I'm like, well, that is a point. Uh, and then the shots he says, but I pin found tonight. Well, that is also a point. Ava, please, please have a spine. Stick to the thing that you said it was beforehand. I don't understand why we did this. This is a, this is a, this should not have been booked this way. And I thought it was sweet that the rock got to have that moment with his real life daughter. So it was pretty empty from a content perspective. But I was like, this is a pretty cool thing. This is pretty cool. The rock came to NXT and is standing on the screen with Ethan Page and his daughter. That was neat. I liked it better than the second time we saw the rock on the screen because that was weird. That was an hour later. So he had had a few more of the old, you know. Do you feel like maybe based on the amount of cursing and the lack of structure, perhaps there was some pteromana backstage. Is that what's called pteromana? I believe it is a little pteromana, a little pteromana. Yeah, I just, I did think maybe they would, like, but if you can come to me, however, because I'm the final boss, but here, my daughter is the final boss. No, they're just, they're not acknowledging it. Like, it's not a thing that they want. Like, it's the same deal with with William Regal and Charlie Dempsey. Like, it's just like, well, that one's even weirder because this looks like definitely weirder. But this, this one is also weird. That one's weirder, but this is weird. It is a, William Regal's like bed on TV a few times now. I feel like if you're going to have the rock acknowledge his daughter on NXT television, you probably want that to be more planned than whatever this was. Right. And I, to me, this had some wink and an odd to it of like, I'm not blatantly saying that you're my daughter, but like, there was enough of like, I can deduce that there's a mom and daughter relationship here. I kind of, I kind of wanted a, hey, a boss, like, the rock is proud of you. I wanted to, like, one of those, I wanted a little, a little bit of that, you know what I mean? Maybe he's not. Maybe he's like, we'll see how your advice plays out later in the show. And then it was horrific. As, as a father, I know if I were in that position with my young adult daughter, and she was in a very prominent position on this kind of a thing in the same business that I was in, I would not be able to resist throwing it in and I'm proud of you. I wouldn't be able to resist it. You know what I mean? So I kind of, I kind of wanted that from the rock too. Let me settle a little bit of the rock dad. Let me see a little bit of the rock dad in there. You know what I mean? But no, it was just, you know, as a daughter who has an awesome dad that tells her, he's proud of her a bunch. It would have been nice. It would have been nice. Speaking of my dad, happy anniversary to him in my mouth today. Oh, wow. Wow, you don't get a lot of genuine, early, January weddings. No, they spring, summer, fall, but like early January is not one I hear a lot of for anniversaries. They were very young and in love and excited to get married. I'm chill. So it's very sweet. My dad always like says that his whole life was set up in a very short amount of time because he graduated college and married my mom and got a job with IBM and he was with IBM basically his entire career. I always used to joke like, I can go to my dad for advice about anything in the world, probably accept about like how to write a resume because he just didn't really do it. The ref saw him holding brass knuckles saw Lexus King knocked out and immediately called for the match to be over with no more investigation into what might have happened, therefore causing on a DQ, Charlie Dempsey to lose the heritage cup to Lexus King for approximately seven days. First of all, I just thank you to everybody waving back. It means a lot. My reaction is what? Yeah, there you go. Thank you. That's pretty much it. It's stupid, and I feel like I was so excited about the heritage cupman, and I miss Noam Dar so much, but I thought the heritage cup was going to be the thing that had the least amount of shenanigans because of the stipulations that a heritage cup match provides, and it has become the most overbucked weird, it feels antithetical to the thing that it's supposed to be. Yep. But I don't like that. So the big, the controversy was maybe it can't change hands on a DQ, so we're going to have a rematch, and it's going to be sudden death, one fall to a finish. The one fall, of course, now was filled with shenanigans because Charlie Dempsey completely out wrestled Lexus King, and then was going for a leapfrog, but Lexus King didn't duck. He just rammed the crown of his head directly into Charlie Dempsey's balls while he was up in the air, and then was like, "Well, I guess I'll go back to winning the wrong way," and took advantage of having inadvertently headbutted him in the balls, hit the coronation, and pinned him, and I don't know. This just felt dumb. I mean, he shouldn't be a face. No. So that part's good. I mean, if this leads to him next week coming back out on the throne, clarifying the cup, I'm like, "Ha-ha!" Yeah, the king is on a roll. I mean, at least he'd be, I don't want that, but I want him to be a jerk again because I don't want to be forced to be asked to root for him by the commentary team over and over and over again. Yeah, he needs to be a heel. So I'm hoping this is like, I can only be a champion if I do things the wrong way. Yeah. But also, can we pick a character for him and follow through with it? Not allowed. I'm almost to this cannon, JK. I'm a baby face. JK, I'm a straightforward heel that does thing the wrong way. I believe we did see Lexus do this exact same spot against Jevon. So then, this is just him being a bad wrestler twice, or is this one him doing it like, ah, it worked that time. That's obviously, that's obviously an inadvertent contact, says everybody on the commentary team. So I would like it much more if he did this on purpose and admitted to it next week, you know? That would be better. Yeah, and Lieutenant photos says, can we just make him his father? Are they trying to set up a big reveal? Because we all know, and also look at them. You can just tell. Yes, I don't know. Um, yeah. That was legal. That was the low point of the evening. It was this was an overwhelmingly better episode than worse episode. So like, yeah, but it's nice because it's like putting on a familiar sweater. Like, oh, this was really stupid and made no sense and was over both. Like, called Z. Right. Obafemy is your new NXT world champion. That is a lot of how we got there is very dumb, but it doesn't matter. A little bit. Yeah, it does. It's kicking off the title ring. It's it's the way he became world champion. So like, to me, that's always going to feel like they didn't have enough confidence to just let him win a triple threat. Or after the original, I got any sort back for getting me last week that just having beat Trick Williams one on one. And then you could do a thing with Eddie Thorpe wanting to get his revenge on Obafemy, the new champion having to do it all of it. Obafemy takes out any Thorpe. Now, I did like the fact that he like admitted to it because that was so great. Yeah, I am standing on business with this particular thing. I liked that. But then Trick Williams comes out. Obafemy comes out. Mike Rome gets on the thing and says, this is an NXT title match between this guy and this guy and nobody else. I didn't quite say that, but yeah, I mean, he should have between this guy and this guy and nobody else for the NXT world. He was originally booked as a triple threat. But and listen, I am I am nothing if not consistent. The ding ding is paramount. It is paramount. Once the once the bell has been rung and it has started out as one guy in one corner and another guy in another corner, that's the match. You know what I mean? It's not a tag match where one guy is back in the back and like, I guess I'll face him by myself. This is a this is for the world title, a singles title. If you're not in the ring when the ding ding happens, you're not in the match. Correct. Now, he didn't attempt to pin fall when he finally got in the match, which by the way, was I thought very well done. Like Trick got in a lot of offense on Oba kept kicking out and and it did not it did not look as though Trick was imminently going to get the victory. Oba hit his giant power bomb a couple of times. This was a good I kind of wanted to see what would happen if it was just Trick versus Oba and let him go let him go a lot longer than they did go because we can't do that because we got to get the rock out here to do nothing for the last 15 minutes of the show. But if they actually let him wrestle a full main event length match, I would have it would have been interesting to me because like I think Trick was was doing pretty well and Oba is amazing. So like I wanted to see more of this. But any Thorpe we they show us him coming out of the trainer's room, bringing a chair with him, and then six minutes later, he gets finally gets to the ring, and and he's got a chair he pulls the ref out to make sure a pinfall can't happen that it gets up on the apron and and he gets thrown into the ring by Oba who's pissed at him and then Oba beats the absolute dog shit out of him for 45 seconds. It gets hit with a trick me by by Trick Williams, kicks out of that and then Trick's gonna go for another one but Oba sidesteps it and at that point Eddie has finally gotten up in his banishing the chair and hold the chair in front of his face so that he can get need the chair into his own face. And then Oba picks up Trick again, hits another big powerbomb and pins him. Oba is the champion. That is the that is the only good thing I have to say about the last quarter of the matches that the pinfall went to the right man. I I any Thorpe I thought did a really interesting little like a heel maneuver of you're not giving me what I'm do. I'm gonna get I'm gonna get my title match versus Trick Williams I'm gonna fake an injury going he was dead all the the heel stuff to be cerebral about it got his match versus Trick Williams which I thought he looked very good in the double pin thing was frustrating but a triple threat match is a way for him to be able to he showed nothing he got in zero offense. I do not know why you would say let's do a triple threat with Eddie Thorpe then have him get attacked beforehand never really get involved until he does but he never even swings the chair at anybody the chair he brought in the ring hit himself in the head and nobody else this this makes him look dumb and ineffectual and I don't think you needed to do any of that in order to make Oba Femy your new champion. I think the part that was kind of a bummer for me is the match which is not always the case at NXT was actually doing a really good job of balancing Oba Femy still looking dominant and trick not looking weak they are not notoriously great at that in ring wise especially at NXT and they were actually in the sweet spot of trick being an underdog but not looking pathetic at all like looking strong looking like a champion looking like a guy who was trying to adjust for this mountain of a man who he was in the ring with and Oba just getting to be Oba and I feel like a lot of times when they do things like we got at the end of the match it's yes to include other people in the title picture and yes because chaos is their preferred brand of way to go about stuff but it's also because they run out of ideas of how to in match ring story tell that exact thing that I just described and in their defense that's a hard thing to accomplish is to make one guy look dominant and not make the other guy look weak in the process we saw them struggle with that with Seth Rollins and Sam Punk last night we were just talking about that like Seth kind of looked like a chump by the end of that match because Sam Punk just kicked out everything so it was I think part of why that part let me doubt a little bit was because we were actually for what hit a groove with that and I'm just so sick of this stuff with the world title specifically on the men's side like there has just not been a match between two guys for the title enough times there just hasn't been it's always multi-man goofy shit matches and with trick and oba like those are two made guys right now you don't need any of this stuff and trick always gets the short end of the stick of it never being about him in the storytelling like never never when he's champ never when he's on the other side of it looking to be champ so like just let trick be able to his matches with Pete Dun were the ones that were like the freest of should add against I think so that's kind of a bummer but at the end of the day oba femme is your champion I think this was a better performance from trick than we've seen in a bit because it did three quarters of the match did have the room so just let him be a wrestler which I think is really really good and overall I enjoyed it but it is kind of like the NXT rhythm we fall into of it was great and then the ending detracted from it instead of enhanced it which match endings are supposed to be the punctuation mark zone it was great until the ending yeah that's the way it works um I I just don't I just don't think you needed any of it to get where you were going you don't you didn't like you could have a triple threat match protects trick Williams yeah a straight up triple threat match and there's a lot of interesting stories you can do like having oba be pissed at Eddie Thorpe because of what he did last week like have or Eddie Thorpe is being interviewed about this match and oba walks up to him and like I owe you a receipt for what you did to my face with that trophy last week you will get it in spades in the match tonight and they leaves and oh and he's like oh crap so he spends a lot of the thing avoiding getting the shit kicked out of him yeah by by oba and oba then has to like and trick is like I'm in this match too so like yours there's a there's a I was looking forward to a well laid out triple threat match between three guys whose work I enjoy and instead I got to watch a pretty good one-on-one match that was ruined for me by knowing it was inevitable that Eddie Thorpe was going to come down to the ring and do shenanigans all over it and and then they did and then it kind of I'm so happy oba fan of his champ why won't you let me enjoy the how he became champ just book a damn match a straight up friggin match where two or three guys fight each other until one of them pins the other one to the mat for three seconds why does it have to have all of this extra stuff all over it just just do a match and I would be so much I would be so elated now to be able to talk about it I really liked a lot of the stuff we got to see from the two of them fighting each other and I don't get to like focus on that because Eddie Thorpe comes to the ring with a chair that he never even swings at anybody like it's just it's just you also can't like double Eddie Guerrero in the same show and back-to-back matches because they kind of do that with the brass nucks like or not back-to-back matches but in back-to-back stories like you did it with the brass nucks and then you're kind of it wasn't a full Eddie Guerrero spot it was actually the the seesaw spot that was the um oh my god who is the seesaw spot guy hardly race right hardly race did the seesaw spot it was almost that it was not quite as like uh three stooges he gets that but it was like unintended chair right so um god kate get on your hardly race knowledge what you're doing foolish what almost that means champion so hooray yeah Taylor Cannon says I'm so happy for oba man he rules oba does rule or this is the this needs to be the beginning as I have said he would hold the title until stand delivered 2026 it is up to you now to figure out a way to get Jevon Evans into place to beat him for that title in four in what uh 16 months you have 16 months you the story you laid out is perfect that I hope they do it because it's extremely simple of the rematch arc it's easy it's beautiful it's clean just do it and Jevon gets back and and finally gets past Ethan Page at standard deliver the next time that he that that oba defends the title should be against Jevon Evans and then have three or four more and then against Jevon Evans have two more and then against Jevon Evans again where he loses the title like that's that's a really and the progression to your point being Jevon Evans character arc being lost pretty quick and pretty handily the first time comes real damn close the second time but loses and then finally climbs up the mountain the third time like that's a character arc with satisfying ending against the unbeatable champion with one of the most likable young exciting entertaining highest potential wrestlers that you have on the roster just do it just do it just do it clean do it right yeah but Alex not everybody can just do it but like NXT some people struggle
