[music] Good evening. I have very fair view to come to our little expiré this evening. Ladies and gentlemen, please stand by for Cookie on the Big L! But my hair is still in control. You stupid fool. Where are we going tonight? Oh, the usual cocktail joint. Big girl. [music] At 0700 hours tomorrow morning, my shutdown disc will be activated and all mental and physical operations will cease. Then what? I don't know. Maybe I'll get a job as a disc jockey. And now, here he is. It's Cookie. Oh, no! Music. Oh, yes, I'm afraid it is. So worry warm. Welcome along to another Thursday evening swanry. With me, Cookie, taking you through to the Beatles hour at 9pm UK time. Stand by for some wonderful music and a fair bit of mayhem into the bargain. And thanks to Gary Jackson for the last hour. He'll be back same time tomorrow. [music] Music. That's our middle name. Wonderful music. The I.T.L. And back for a little tinkle on the old Jyno for our sing along a little bit later on. [music] Into our 5500 with the birds. [music] I am looking to compete with you. Be your chief or mistreat you. Simplify you, classify you. Do not defile or crucify you. All I really want to do. The baby be friends with you. So I ain't looking to fight with you. Grabbing you or attacking you. Drag you down or bring you down. Change you down or bring you down. All I really want to do. The baby be friends with you. I don't want to take you down. Keep us grateful for saving you out. I am looking to compete with you like me. She like me or be like me. [music] I don't want to meet you again. Make you spin or do you win. Or select you or accept you. Or inspect you or reject you. All I really want to do. The baby be friends with you. The baby be friends with you. The baby be friends with you. [music] You get a positive charge out of... Big girl. [music] See the girl with simmers on her fingers entering through the door. Ruby glistening from her navel, shimmering around the floor. Bells are be quoting and mingling and going through my head. Sweat is falling just like a teardrop's running from her head. [music] Now she dancing going through the movement swaying to and fro. Body moving, being back in memory thoughts of long ago. Blood is rushing, temperature is rising, sweating from my brow. Like a snake, her body person hates me. I can't look away now. Stop, stop, stop all dancing. Give me time to breathe. Stop, stop, stop all dancing all out to me. [music] Now she's moving over on the tables, blurring all inside. But I know that she cannot see me hidden by the light. Close to closer, she is getting here as soon as she'll be in reach. As I enter into a spotlight, she stands last for speech. Stop, stop, stop all dancing. Give me time to breathe. Stop, stop, stop all dancing all out to me. [music] [music] Stop, stop, stop all dancing. Give me time to breathe. Stop, stop, stop all dancing all out to me. Now all the people staring don't know what to think. And we struggle knocking over tables, spilling all the drinks. Can't they understand that I want her to happens every week? Heavy hand up on my collar throws me in the street. Stop, stop, stop all dancing. Give me time to breathe. Stop, stop, stop all dancing all out to me. [music] Oh, one for Sue's memory there. The hollies, stop, stop, stop. And the birds, and all I really want to do. Two for our five hundred, opening up another Thursday evening. Swari, very good evening to you, it is cookie. Live and lively, taking you through to the Beatles out at 9pm UK time. [music] Oh my goodness, it's chaos this evening. [music] Hang on, I'm just getting ready for everything and trying to grab a bite to eat and the phone goes. Yes. I don't know where I am the seat, but then that's nothing unusual is it. I'm always all over the place. So, what have we got on the menu to tempt you with this evening? Well, we have a long song from the temptations. We've got the stargazers to bring a smile to your face a little bit later on this hour. We'll get behind the wheel for our hour to open a vote. We'll find out what that's all about very soon indeed. [music] And for part of hour two, we'll be taking you back to this very week, 1981, for our five from ten chart record. Plus, of course, your emails and requests. And it wouldn't be Thursday without a sing-along, would it? [music] So, I hope you're in good voice this evening. Let's see who's checking in already. Very good evening to John and Chorley to Serja. And boy, over there in Zellzak, to Zoey and Mikey and Hichin. Lorna and Jen in Keswick. Maureen in Essex. We've got John and Chorley, John in Larm. [music] We've got Brian and Maureen in St. Albans. We've got someone just coming in there with a voice smile. So, back very soon indeed. Very good Friday morning to Lance in New Plymouth, New Zealand. Listening on his way into work. So, good to have you with us this morning where you are. [laughs] It's very confusing. [music] Now, this one, I didn't get around to playing yesterday afternoon. John and Chorley said, "Please, can you play this for Serja?" In Zellzak. So, we'll do that for you right now as they're both around this evening. [music] Big L, it's a blast. [music] Hello. [laughs] Ooh. [laughs] It's pretty bad. [music] I'll say. [music] How about a little kiss? [music] Don't feel good. [music] [music] [music] She said there's something in the wood. Don't share. And I can hear it breathing. It's such a genuine feeling. Darling. He said there's nothing in the wood. Share. It's your imagination. And of the conversation. Darling. It's something in his heart. Darling, to come before him. He was not good. He came to feel something in his dreams. Darling, to pretend. For the same day before. Oh, he came. [music] She said there's something in the wood. Share. I know because I saw it. I'd come to play more. Darling, so he said. Oh, baby. Don't miss too bad. Get this into your sleep. And there ain't nothing in the wood. Share. It's a baby's wood. Something in his heart. Darling, to come before him. He was not good. He came to feel something in his dreams. Darling, to pretend. For the same day before. Oh, he came. [music] I'm on a way with you. You've always been the same for me. You've always been the same. But it's nothing like the same. And I've always been the same. Oh, he came. [music] Yeah, he's something on the way. Yeah, he's something on the way. Yeah, he's something on the way. Yeah, he's something on the way. Yeah, he's something on the way. Yeah, he's something on the way. Yeah, he's something on the way. [music] So, there we go. That's something different, isn't it? [music] Let's see, who's out and who else is in for a request? First in. [music] Another week goes by and still no wheels. [music] Everything's better with a nice bit of sunshine and blue sky, isn't it? For our music choice, we will avoid any car songs. I don't blame you. So, can we try Chris Montes and there will never be another you please? You can indeed. That's on the way in a few seconds time. Ryan and Laurie, Instant Orban's. Now, it's been a busy week for Zoe and Mike in the kitchen. [music] Zoe says hi, and it's been an eventful, emotional, and very tiring week. About a very happy one as our new granddaughter was born yesterday morning. Well, congratulations. That's good to hear. Everyone is well and we're all delighted. It was easy to choose our request this week. Please, will you play? Isn't she lovely by Stevie Wonder for us? I will indeed. In honor of our new arrival, Big Sister Annabelle is also very lovely. So, this is for her too. I'm not sure whether we'll be listening in this evening or I'm listening again. I don't know what's happening with all the various family members today. But best to you and all the gang. Well, Zoe has checked in on our Facebook group. So, she is with us live and live in this evening. [music] Who else is through Jen in Kesic says, "Could you please play veins by the being Oyster Cult?" I'm sorry, I don't have that one, Jen. Only two I've got from the Oyster Cult is Don't Fear the Reaper, of course, and Burning for You. So, if either of those are any good, let me know. Let me get those on the stack for you. Meanwhile, Lorna Kesic says, "Please, could you play?" "Welcome home by Peterson Lee for my Jen." We are apart at the moment, but this was the track her dad had playing when I came home after giving birth to her on Christmas Eve 2006. So, it'll be the first song that wasn't Christmas that baby Jen would have heard. Sorry, it's not called Jen, but this means a lot to me. Okay, I'm not sure. I bet Jen's going bright red right now. Never mind. Yes, we'll do that for you, no trouble at all. Okay, let's crack on with the first of those. We've got some mother bits and pieces. Very good evening, also, to Howard in Loudon. Good to have you with us this evening. I've got more messages to catch up on, so we'll do those in due course. Let's crack on with the first of those requests, though. For Brian and Noring in St. Albans, Chris Montez, there will never be another you. [music] The fastest thing in the air, big L! [music] There will be many other nights like this. [music] And I'll be standing here with someone new. [music] There will be other songs that sing. [music] Another fall, another spring. [music] But there will never be another you. [music] There will be other lips that I make it. [music] Oh, but they won't drill me like yours used to do. [music] Yes, I may dream a million dreams, but how can they come true? [music] If there will never, ever be another you. [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] There will be other songs that sing. [music] Another fall, another spring. [music] But there will never be another you. [music] There will be other lips that I make it. [music] Oh, but they won't drill me like yours used to do. [music] Yes, I may dream a million dreams, but how can they come true? [music] If there will never, ever be another you. [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] Oh, my goodness, I'm still trying to play catch up here. [clears throat] [laughs] For Brian and Norrie and instant organs. Chris Montes, there will never be another you. John in Lance is any chance of dire straits and brothers in arms. No problem at all, that's on the stack for you. And a very good evening to John in Darbershire, who says, "Evening cookie, hope was good. Can you play the sweet and hell raiser? I'll get that on the stack for you as well, no problem at all. I'm going to be a busy one this evening, I think, so many years." Some of these are going to be a one or two before they come up, but we'll do our best to get through, obviously, as many as we possibly can, in the next couple of hours right here on VL International. Let's give you our two choices for our hour to open up this evening. [music] As always, collectively, your choices to which of these two goes through and opens up hour two of the show. On Big L International. We're on a nerve baby. When Steve is from 9 p.m. It's the heart and soul of rock and roll, Big L. I'm so long my love without you. You're part of everything I do. When you come back and you're beside me, these are the words I'll send to you. Welcome home. Welcome home. Come on in and close the door. You've been gone too long. Welcome home once more. I thought of all the things I'll say to you. When you come back to me someday. When you are here and we're together. With all my heart you'll hear me say. Welcome home. Welcome home. Come on in and close the door. You've been gone too long. Welcome home once more. There are so many lonely people. Why must there ever be a part? I hope someday you'll be together. Singing these words with all your heart. Welcome home. Welcome home. Come on in and close the door. You've been gone too long. Welcome home once more. Oh, there we are bringing back some memories, some special memories for Lorna and embarrassing Jen. Welcome home. Time now for our do what track of the weekend. I've greatly missed so used to be such a do so well at organizing these every week. I'm absolutely hopeless and I've completely lost track of who's supposed to be whose turn is to do a do what track. So I thought I'd take the liberty of choosing one myself this evening. This has been a chaotic day and I haven't had a chance to chase things up so it's a bit of a last minute thing. But I thought let's see how we go with this one. I thought we'd go with a bit of Jack Kirby. Taking it back to 1962 and cheer up little angel. It took 50 years to make 'em and only one station's playing. The heart and soul of rock and roll. Big L. Both cheer up little angel. Cheer up, cheer up, cheer up. Both cheer up little angel. Cheer up, cheer up, cheer up. Come on come on. Cheer up little angel. Cheer up, cheer up. I know your mother has come. But you want your mommy for long. Come on come on. Cheer up little angel. Cheer up, cheer up. I'm gonna make you forget it. The way you're done here on. I'm gonna love you every single minute over every day. Like you wanted him to. And my love will be different in a one and more way. My love is gonna be true. Come on come on. Cheer up little angel. Cheer up, cheer up. Come on take my hand. I've got a life family love more play. Up, cheer up little angel. Cheer up, cheer up. Up, cheer up little angel. Cheer up, cheer up. I'm gonna love you every single minute over every day. Like you wanted him to. And my love will be different in a one and more way. My love is gonna be true. Come on come on. Cheer up little angel. Come on take my hand. I've got a life family love more play. Up, cheer up little angel. Cheer up, cheer up. Up, cheer up little angel. Cheer up, cheer up. Up, cheer up little angel. Cheer up, cheer up. Sorry that was hard to scratch gang. It's not often I get the choice of the Dewatt track. So, Jack Kirby cheer up little angel taking me back to 1962 with that one. And is that time in the show once again? Bubbling over with. Indeed we are. That time in the show once again we would like to play a couple of records to bring a smile to your face. And boy have we got something for you this evening. Trump says he rewrote his speech after Saturday's attempted assassination and says the new version will aim to bring the country together. Ever since Simon Marx reports from the convention site in Milwaukee. - It is obviously a massive night here for Donald Trump, the first time that he will have addressed the American public since the assassination attempt against him last weekend. So everybody waiting to see what he has to say about that awful incident. But in the run up to the big speech by Donald Trump, the convention will be hearing from several figures who may be auditioning for a role in a second Trump administration. But stay with me until the sun has gone away. And I will chase the boy in you away. And then she smiled. Then we talked for a while. Then we walked for a while to the sea. She sat on the sand. And the boy took her hair. But I saw the sunrise as a man. Ten years have gone by. Since I looked in her eyes. But the memory lingers. I go back in my mind. To the very first time.
