Once again, thank you to Gary Jackson for the last three hours, the big one for him. He'll be back with you later on this evening, I believe, straight off to Steve James on the old dope. Always out. That'll be 9 to 10. But I'm with you up until nine o'clock, two hours show tonight. I'm losing track of the days during all these cover shows. But today and tomorrow's my last show for a week. I'll tell you more about that later on. If you'd like a request, give us a call 01255 808 113. Or you can email studio@bigelradio.co.uk Or you can send me a message or messenger like Jack Thuss, Jack Shepard. He'll be in the second half. He's got a good choice this week. Always get a good choice. Thanks for joining us, Jack. And being part of the line-up now, I'll tell you. I have to pay you one day. You wait a few years for that. You're on trial for seven years. So if you'd like a request, give us a call. We've got a little Motown section. And some facts and figures with regards Tony Blackburn and Norma St. John, Willie Walker, Kenny Everett, Paul Kay, all the old people that used to be on Big L right here. So that's what we're going to do. Let's give you a quick shout. Big L, International! 24 hours a day. Big L. And we've got a good track to start off. Of course we have, yes, after Johnny Walker says his little piece. It's called Boogie. No, I'm not playing that. I play Mrs Applebee. I might give something all out of the lights. Here's the king or radio for you. Hi, this is one of the original Pirates, Johnny Walker. With a reminder, you're listening to Peter Twiford right here on Wonderful Big L. Enjoy the show. I'm sure they will, Johnny. Thank you so much for doing that for me. I appreciate it. And Mrs Applebee, David Garak. Dear, Mrs Applebee, I've got to get something off my chest. Mrs Applebee, you got the wrong idea about me. Mrs Applebee, you told me where she couldn't go with me because you heard that I was bad. Mrs Applebee, please hear my plea. Don't you know that anyone can change? Mrs Applebee, and for Marie, I'd even swim the sea. Mrs Applebee, I'm begging you to please be kind. I want a chance to change your mind about me. Mrs Applebee. Dear, Mrs Applebee, I know that I once made some bad mistakes. Mrs Applebee, but that was long before I loved Marie. Mrs Applebee, I'll make you glad that you can be. And you'll be proud to see Marie with me. Mrs Applebee, Mrs Applebee. Oh, strangely, you're listening to the music in your headphones. So when you're typing in the requests, you do it in time to the music. That's great stuff, isn't it? Let's have a quick add-on faith for you then. It goes like this. Well, I swear you shouldn't be so cool. Like I just come out from school. Looking such a pretty sad, like a stick of dynamite. You're sitting on a coffee bus door. Well, no, I guess that's a fact. And I'll never come here next until I've made you. Well, I feel such a crazy crown. You're the biggest thing in our town. Come on, honey, it ain't fair. I'm never getting anywhere. Have you a mill to down? Well, you're a guess that's a fact. And I'll never come here next until I've made you. Well, I'm not giving up this chase. I don't wanna lose this face. Every time I make a play, maybe you're just gonna wait. Undermade first base. Well, I guess that's a fact. And I'll never come here next until I've made you. And it's still a typical add-on faith track. It's called Major, and not even reaching one and three quarter minutes. So there we are. But he loved it. He did loads and loads of music. And add-on face aim was to get into acting. And he did do a few TV series as well. And I met him when... What's the name of the show? He was doing chorus line down in South End. South End. The Cliffs Pavilion. Charming gentleman really is as well. Here's Eddie Floyd. Things get better. You can break your hand. I'll never have. I'm gonna be right. Long as it lasts, it lasts. When I make you tell. When I make you tell. When I make you tell. When I make you tell. I can be lonely. You can be fine. I'm not a lonely baby. You're always around. That's why. When I make you tell. When I make you tell. Yeah. ♪ They got the better baby when I went to bed ♪ ♪ I went to bed ♪ Eddie Floyd there for you this evening on Big L International. Petrika, thank you for your request. Anita, thank you for yours. And I'll see his request coming in from Helmut as well. And hello from David Upstone as well. So it's all good stuff here on Big L International. Petrika, you'll ask for a track, which of course is by Vicky Sue Robinson. And she was associated with the disco era of the late 1970s pop music. And she's most famous for her 1976 hit Turn the Beat Around. And it sounds like this, this is your request. Good choice. Turn the Beat Around. Turn it upside down. Turn the Beat Around. Turn it upside down. Turn it upside down. Turn it upside down. in Harlem in New York and she was born to African American Shakespearean actor Bill Robinson. A very interesting life, just been reading up about how well that was playing. As one of my neighbours said to me, "What do you do in the music's plan? I just sit there with me arms folded, yeah, of course I don't play it. No, I don't come on. You know me." Anyway, Twiford here on till nine o'clock for you. David and Trina, thank you for your email. We're listening to Bigel Radio Twiford. He's always on, but that's not a bad thing. He says, "Thank you so much. I love that comment." And I've got some information for you about Bigel back in the days of July 1965. Paul K, recording an edition of calling up curries at the Colchester branch as well. Yeah, I can remember that promo. And Ed Stewart made his first broadcast on the station back in that day. Kenny Everett got told off, of course, for playing a promo for the world tomorrow and the rain next day. Philip Burch, the owner of Bigel Radio, sent a memo to the ship saying, "Would you please make sure that all the ship DJs understand that we want no promos for religious programs anymore?" So there we are. Okay, let's get on with another track and then we'll have a guestie intro for you. It's Anita's request, and it is the Bigel's of course, a hard days' night, and it goes just like this. Good choice, Anita, as always. It's been a hard days' night and I've been with you like a dog. It's been a hard days' night. I should be sleeping like a love, but when I get home to you, I find the things that you do will make me feel alright. You know I work all day to catch your money to buy a thing, and it's worth it just to hear you say, "You're gonna give me everything, so I'll let you down more, 'cause when I get you alone, you know I feel okay." US President Joe Biden has blamed too much foreign travel for his poor debate performance against Donald Trump last week. It comes as Democrats are pushing for Biden to drop out of the race for the White House amid mounting concerns about his age and mental agility. He'll be meeting Democratic governors virtually on Wednesday evening as he attempts to shore up support following that shaky debate amid intense internal deliberations about whether he should step aside. Ever since Benjihay reports from Washington. There's a real effort now to calm the waters just a day after the first Democrat congressman publicly called for Joe Biden to formally withdraw from the race for the Oval Office. The White House says it's looking to turn the page following his raspy halting debate showing. Whilst his campaign continues to downplay the crisis, insisting President Biden remains the nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris, his running mate. There's set to be record breaking numbers of people traveling in the US over the 4th of July holiday. Gas prices have come down in recent years but remain above pre-pandemic levels. Analysts say that's not likely though to impact many people's travel plans. Ever since Caroline Malone reports. Motorist group AAA says as many as 71 million people are likely to travel around this week's Independence Day holiday more than ever before at this time. Almost to those people 60 million will be driving while others will fly or take buses, trains or cruises. The high cost of gas has also stopped drivers in recent years, but those prices have now eased down to $3.5, the national average for a gallon of gas. The White House also announced on Tuesday the sale of one million barrels of gas from a Northwest Reserve. That's likely to bring prices down even further ahead of July 4.
