Terranea Resort’s (Rancho Palos Verdes) inaugural Food and Wine Festival is being held on Sunday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“This oceanfront event, taking place at the scenic resort’s The Meadows, has been created to celebrate the culinary talents of some of Terranea’s talented chefs, as well as to host a glorious summer gourmet experience – showcasing local and regional eateries, craft breweries, wineries and fine beverage purveyors. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, live music will be provided by Upstream, a leading Southern California reggae and Caribbean band, and the popular yacht rock band The AstroYachts.”

“To whet your appetite – from Terranea – catalina kitchen will be serving Brown Butter Scallops and a California Citrus Salad; bashi will present Chicken Karage with aioli and togarashi, mar’sel will be pleasing palates with a Corn and Crab Gazpacho with mint pistou and there is so much more to look forward to…Also, at the Lexus sponsor’s booth, charismatic, Michelin-star Chef Ludo Lefebvre will be presenting tantalizing bites.”

In other Terranea food events for BBQ devotees this Summer every Sunday at Nelson’s is Slow Smoked Sundays. It’s a slow smoked feat with ocean views, smoky entrees, savory sides and sweet desserts.

Hi, I'm Sherry Yard, the Los Angeles Advisory Board for Careers Through Culinary Arts Program. When I want the absolute best in food 411, I listen to the SoCal restaurant show right here on AM830KLAA. And welcome back, it is the SoCal restaurant show and we're here with you every Saturday morning from 10 AM until 12 noon right here on AM830KLAA, the home of Angels Baseball, 2024, and the halos are home tonight playing Seattle third game and a four game set. So it's a big one. I'm Andy Harris, the executive producer and co-host of the show. To appreciate you being out there and we're enthusiastically presented each and every week by Melissa's World Variety Produce and West Coast Prime Meats. Late last year for the holidays, we had the chance to welcome Chef Andrew Vaughn, who is the executive chef of the Taranaya Resort in Rantropales Verdes to the show. And summer is big at Taranaya. They have their first food and wine festival coming up next Sunday, wanted to have Chef Andrew back on the show to tell us all about it. And some of the other weekly ongoing activities, they have a Taranaya, great staycation destination in what a view. Chef Andrew, welcome back to the show. Hey, good morning Andy. Thanks for having me. Chef, I love your property. I mean, what's not to love about Taranaya Resort and the view from almost every angle of your property. Now, Chef, you know how to do it, right? If you're going to be doing a food and wine festival, which you are next Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. I know you're going to be pulling out all the stops because that's just the way you work. So give us a little tease for everything that's going on because in addition to food and libations, there's entertainment again, a lot coming up at Taranaya. Yeah, absolutely. So summer is here and we really love sharing summer with everyone here at Taranaya. It's the best time of year to come and celebrate with us and we're doing a first of its kind Taranaya Food and Wine Festival. We've never done this before. We've got so many participating restaurants and wineries from around Southern California, from rock to reggae live music that's going to be playing. We're partnering with the James Beard Foundation as well as Lexus. So we've got a master chef from Lexus, Ludo LaFev, who will be joining us and then we'll be showcasing the talent of all of our chefs that we have on property where we'll be doing some fantastic bites and appetizers from Marcel restaurant, Catalina Kitchen, Foshee, and some other local restaurants as well. It's going to be a great time. And just to whet our listeners appetite, Chef Andrew, a little, if you will, for instance, tell us about the dish that Marcel will be doing. Marcel, it's going to be really, really beautiful. So, you know, that beautiful summer weather that we have in the sunshine. We're showcasing some beautiful crab meat that we're getting locally. We're going to do a corn and crab gazpacho. Corn is at its peak season right now, and so we're infusing it with a little bit of a mint piece to and some beautiful crab that Chef Fabio is having. He's also going to be featuring a risotto as well. So you'll get a couple of different bites. We're also offering some craft cocktails as well in each of our restaurants that are featured. So nice surprises ahead. And Chef, of course, a lot of deliciousness. And just picking up a point that you made, the charitable beneficiary of the first annual food and wine festival is the New York based James Beard Foundation. So it's good for our listeners to know when they're participating this event. There actually is a charitable component too. So you can feel good about all that delicious food and wine you enjoy. The James Beard Foundation is really close to my heart. It was established over 30 years ago, and the foundation has highlighted food culture and is, you know, it supports Chef's food culture, food advocacy. There's a lot, it's a great partnership, and we're really excited to spend some time with them and have them come with us and launch this program. It's going to be really, really nice to have them with us. Well said, Chef Andrew. Now, you know, Chef Ludo Lefebvre, this is a Michelin star chef, national and international reputation. Any idea what he might be serving? Because I am sure his station is going to be very popular. Yeah, you know, we do. I don't know. I kind of feel like I shouldn't reveal what he's going to be serving. But he's a great partner with us and also with Lexus. So we're really excited to have him. You know, I'm not going to mention what he's going to do. He's, it's a beautiful seasonal offering. It's going to be really, really, really fantastic. I think you should definitely come and see it for yourself. See, he has a great team with him as well. He's really excited to come and participate. It'll also be his first time celebrating at Taranet. So it'll be really something special to see. We also have a VIP section that is overlooking the Pacific Ocean, where our restaurants will be featured as well. So we've got some cabanas that you could also partake in purchasing. It's going to be a great time. LiveClico is going to be one of our partners as well, which will be offering to that experience in the cabanas. So you get a great bottle of champagne and some great time. Now, Chef Andrew, now that we have the listeners attention, the one thing that we haven't told them, how do they go about getting tickets because they will need that to get to the event? Sure. Yeah. Tickets are available online at www.taranet.com. And you'll go to events, and it's Taranet Food and Wine Festival. We're also offering a package for the Food and Wine Festival. If you book a room on the 20th or the 21st, there's a promotional code Indulge that's I-N-D-U-L-G-E. And that grants you automatic access into the festival. So that is a great way to get a full immersive piece of what Taranet is all about. It stays a night, come to our great festival, and you can see all of the sites and all of the wonderful restaurants that we have on property. Because in addition to the festival, each of our outlets and all of our activations that we showcase during the weekend will be in full swing. And we're expecting beautiful weather, live music. It's going to be something to see. And, Chef Andrew, who doesn't love an opportunity for a staycation? Now, before we run out of time, you have some ongoing food activities during the summer at Taranet. Everybody loves barbecue. Tell us about Slow Smoked Sundays at Nelson's. It's truly the best of barbecue. Our chef, Chef Juan, he's put together a fantastic menu that we've been running all summer that we're featuring on Sundays from three to seven at Nelson's. Brisket, spare ribs, pulled pork, barbecue chicken, mac and cheese, some awesome corn bread, watermelon salad. There's a little bit of something for everyone. Some featured craft cocktails as well, to a company of the barbecue and then live, lose music that plays. So that's every Sunday, $55 for adults, $30 for kids. It's a good time. And three to seven p.m. Chef Andrew, for some of our listeners that don't have a lot of bottle age on them, the name Nelson's might not be a familiar reference to them. For those of us that are native Angelenos and remember a very popular TV series with Lloyd Bridges, what is the reference to Nelson's? What does that mean? Yeah, so the story has it that Sea Hunt, the TV show that was ages ago, was shot there. It's an ode to Nelson's. So it's a great, there's photos all in the restaurant showcasing that time and all of the highlights from that TV show. It's a really cool place to eat. It's right by the water as well. You can catch a wonderful sunset. Very good. Chef Andrew, as we need to say goodbye, one more time on the Times next Sunday for the inaugural Tarynaya Wine and Food Festival and the website for tickets. Yeah, we're excited to have you. So definitely come see us once again Sunday, July 21st from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's on the meadows www.tarynaya.com. You can get your tickets there. We're looking forward to seeing you. Chef Andrew, we look forward to picking up the conversation a little later in the year as we talk about the holiday festivities that will be coming up at Tarynaya because that's also a great time of the year and all good wishes for next Sunday. You are listening to the SoCal restaurant show. When we return, if you're a foodie and you watch any food TV, the big subject of conversation right now is season three of the bear. And we have an interesting wrinkle on how you can actually enjoy some of the food that you see on the bear. We're proudly presented by Melissa's world variety produce and West Coast Prime Meats. Give us a minute. We'll be back.
