St Vincent & Grenadines Volcano Eruption Update

The La Soufrière volcano first erupted on Friday 9th April 2021, blanketing the island in a layer of ash. Between 16,000 and 20,000 people have been evacuated from the island’s northern region, where the erupting volcano is located, with more than 3,000 of them staying at more than 80 government shelters. Leaders of St Vincent have warned that water is running short as heavy ash contaminates supplies, amid estimates that the eastern Caribbean island will need hundreds of millions of dollars to recover from the eruption of La Soufrière.
