Time now for the "Six Rings" post-game show presented by McFarland Energy. Breaking down everything Patriots. Now, here's Fitzy and Hart on WEI. At least if you're the Patriots, you don't need a quarterback. That is a big, big part of it. And where does this franchise go from here? It was a crazy Monday in the ensuing days and weeks for this Patriots franchise, as they will finish with a record of 4 and 13. Buffalo will finish the season 13 and 4 in just a couple of hours. 2313 of Patriots over Buffalo. We had a golden ticket and gave it back. This is the "Six Rings" post-game show following the completion of the 2024 regular season for your New England Patriots. The final today from Gillette Stadium Patriots 23. Buffalo Bills 16. Buffalo finishes 13 and 4 in the season. They are headed to the postseason. They'll be hosting a playoff game next weekend, most likely against Bonix and the Denver Broncos. The Patriots finish 4 and 13 again and head off into one of the most uncertain. Uncertain off seasons. I am certain that it is one of the most uncertain. Unpredictable, weird, uncomfortable off seasons in recent memory, considering where we've been, all this organization's been through, and it's fall from grace. I hope if any change is to be enacted, Andy, it is swift, it is succinct, and it is apology-free. Let's get back to the phones real quick. I'm sure there are lots of people that would like to chat you up, my friend. Back to the phones we go. I believe next up. Yeah, Danny in the car. What's up, Danny? Gentlemen, great win today. What's that now? Joseph, Mr. Sly. Yes. I am Sly. Could me shank three of them. I mean, five million dollars in an offshore count maybe in 10 years, but congratulations to Mr. Joseph J. Milton III, because I think we could get a second round draft pick today for him. Phenomenal game for him, former Michigan quarterback, former volunteer quarterback. And let's add one more to this. Sure. A short-armed tackle number four. Andy, I love it. Maybe 33 inches. They're not sure. Oh boy, Danny, you, boy, it's said here on the call sheet that you were really happy about the win. I'm not so sure about that, sir. That was a good call. It was a very good call. Had perspective, had some good sarcasm. He was prepared. Do we actually think that Joe Milton will be traded? I think this just logs him in as the backup. No, he is. It saves you money on a veteran backup is what it probably does. You now feel comfortable. You have somebody who's capable of going out there running the offense, not embarrassing yourself, whatever. That's all it does. Now, a couple years from now, if he gets a couple, because I mean, we learned this year that Drake May gets dinged up a little bit. So Joe Milton could see action as the number two. And then if he does a little bit more, has a good preseason, then maybe down the road you're talking about, is he a trade chip? Yeah, I'll back him. That's what you do. Yeah. I mean, he has to continue to develop, because I thought he played really well today way better than I would have expected, even against backups, even against backups. I wasn't sure he was a guy that was pretty raw at times this summer, but he looked good for the bulk of the action today. Yeah, he did. And I think the ability now to not necessarily depending on which way you go with quarterback's coach, offensive coordinator, and offensive support staff, you may not need to pay a lot of money to a veteran backup next year. Jacobi Brissette did operate on a one year, eight million dollar deal. So there's a way that you could save lots of money. And then I'm not worried about them saving it rather reroute and funnel it to another position of need, which would include. Oh, that's right. All of them, everything, even even the coaching staff, because, you know, I thought it was, you brought up Giardi joining us on the afternoon show on Friday, and he was kind of enumerating what it would take to nuke this operation. And if you're going to hire for able and these other people and the money, and you're going to be paying mayo and his staff, and you're hiring a new staff, and you've got to pay this, and you've got to pay that, you know, it could cost you, I think he threw the number $90 million out there to do a total redo of the organization. Close to $100 million, if you think about it, yeah. That, I mean, $8 million, if you can siphon a little off here or there to send somewhere else, but it shouldn't be a money issue. It should be a get it right issue. It should be a, you know, bring credibility, respectability and competitiveness to this organization, kind of an issue. But you said, you hope it's swift. I'm not sure it's going to be because I've hear more and more people, you hear Giardi say it, then I heard shefter say it today that because of the way everything is now and with the delayed interviews for the playoff teams, until what is it, divisional weekend and things of that nature, that there'll be activity on Black Monday, but some aren't expecting that activity to be New England, even if they are going to make changes. Let's see if we can squeeze in one more call here before we catch up on the rest of the day's NFL scores and more. Bill is in Newton. Hi, Bill. How are you? Hi guys. And as a giant fan, who has to deal with dysfunction every single year and what happened last week, I'd like to welcome you to the club and I couldn't. I honestly don't feel bad for either. You spoiled brats with your sick Super Bowl and your seven million division title. Listen, you get a couple of bad years and it sounds like a volcano is about to explode on your head. You know, two things. One, I don't think John Mayo thinks he's getting fired because if he thought he was getting fired, he would have started Drake Meg because he would have said Drake go out there, beat the crap out of this bill's team and screw the organization out of the number one tech. If he really thought he was getting fired, that's what he would have done. I mean, he started the third string quarterback. He took out their number one pass catcher. What do you want him to do? I mean, they were playing Mitch Trabisky, who's the worst quarterback in NFL history and a bunch of backups. I mean, I think he tried to lose. I really don't know if he could put it on him. Oh, I can. He can punt. He doesn't have to kick field goals. He can punt just like Sean McDermott did just like Sean. He's been hunting all year. He's field goal rage. He's not in the 33 yard line. Come on, Sean McDermott punted from the 35. Dude, the bills are the two seed. Nothing mattered for them. Nothing. The Patriots are the worst team in football. Nothing matters for them. You're making my point. Thank you. You just said, Andy, that players have to play. Yes, you don't have to kick the field. Oh, you can. Dude, dude, 35 is a 50. What? 53 yard field goal in Gillette Stadium. You can almost debate that that's partly inside the third 45 yard. Hold on one second. Bill, Bill, Joey Slye, probably kicked his most true and accurate 51 yarder today. Oh, a whole 51 yarder. What's the difference between the 35 yard line? In too many Christmas, you're making a big deal over two yards. Andy, Andy, it's one yard. It's one freaking yard. And so what's your point? So one kick to field goal and one punted. One was trying to lose and one wasn't. Well, one one by one eight points. So the field goal didn't even matter. The second thing is they tried to lose news. They tried to lose. Who? And you're just mad. Wait, who? Buffalo did it. The Patriots, of course they did. Oh, wait. I thought they played to win. The coach told me they played to win. Oh, give me a break. Bell text been lying to you for 20 years. I know that about coaches Ryan, do you? No, I hate when they lie. I hate when they lie for no reason. No, you don't. You suck that. You suck that billy for year after year. No, I didn't see you have no idea. You just you just exposed yourself as clueless because I was considered a bill hater. It wasn't until the very end. No. Try again. Try again. No, I'm right. Try again. You haven't really paid attention clearly. I remember with you on your preseason games with you and Parilla with your little pen and paper and write down stuff every game. It was really cute. It was really cute watching that. But what? And then after the game, you talk about how great of a coach villain. Never had it. Well, he is a great coach. He is a great coach. He had one of the greatest 10 years in the history of the game. And you don't think he's a great coach today and you ate it up. No, no, no, you didn't. Then you didn't listen and it's fine. I don't expect everybody knows what I said and knows what I did. That's fine. You were ignorant to it for a long time and that's fine. But I'm just telling you, you didn't pay attention. I paid attention. I'm a big fan of yours. And I remember you. You didn't come off the ship until Brady left. Just like everybody else did. Oh my God. You're out of your mind. I can do you remember the rants I would go on? If you paid attention, I could go back and get all the rants I went on. What were you ranting about if they were going to the Super Bowl? What were your rants? Well, I had the one rant where he pissed me off on a draft weekend when he and Andy Reid made a trade just to keep the little trade streak together. And the guy who sucked all the fun out of the world suddenly wanted to have fun and just trade with Andy Reid, woo, will swap spots. It was a losing trade just because he wanted to continue the trade. I went on a rant on that because Bill sucked the fun out of everything. Bill was an egomaniac for years and years. And I went on those rants. I called him. I was one of the three that would call him out. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. How long we letting this guy go? It's been. No, it's fun. This has been a tremendous battle. You can call anytime. I actually, I actually went, I actually got and enjoyed an entire bag of popcorn during the two of you having it out for two and a half minutes time. But unfortunately, Bill, we and I thank you for the call and do please join us again on a six rings post game show or W E I afternoons where Andy is Monday through Friday. Oh, we have some breaking news right now, Joe. Go ahead. Here is your breaking news. Multiple sources have reported it. Shifter. Rappaport. Geron Mayo is fired. One and done. Geron Mayo, according to multiple sources, Geron Mayo out as Patriots head coach. Wow. I am. Wow. I'm not surprised after today, quite honestly. Coming in, I was like 50 50. But the way he handled himself today. And as people jokingly said, couldn't even lose properly. And then his post game comments and just getting defensive with Mike Reese that he just wasn't ready. I keep going back to that old ESPN commercial when they put the anchor on and he like swears on the air. He's like a kid. Geron Mayo was not ready for this job. I don't know how they thought he was ready, why they thought he was ready, if he even thought he was ready, but he was not ready for this job and its totality. And I wish him no ill will because I liked Geron Mayo. I think he's a pretty good guy. But he was so over his head from last January to tonight that it was it was incredible. Wow. Unbelievable. That's, that's about as big a piece of breaking news right now. The fact of how quick it was to guys, I guess you won't be having that meeting. What do you say tomorrow or is he'll be having his usual meeting? Well, that was whoo. Oh, oh, I talked to the crafts every day. They, they weren't interested in tomorrow's meeting, sir. Andy, just to. So once again, if you're just tuning in, even though you've probably been listening for the past minute, uh, the breaking news is that Geron Mayo, Patriot's head coach of one year, head coach of 17 games has been fired and credit to Adam Schefter League sources told ESPN he was the first one to have it. Well, he intimated this morning. Surprise much and intubated this morning as much when he said what was it leaning towards or leaning toward and when when he says that, as I said earlier, he's as tied in as anyone is with the crafts. Um, he's not just throwing that out there. He's been sort of, um, sure, sort of, uh, hesitant to say that with us on a weekly basis on the afternoon show. You know, the plan was to support him. The plan was to stick with him. And when he said leaning toward out, that told me he'd heard something today. Um, and I'm not saying it's, I'm not saying it's a bad move, uh, because it needed to be done. And I actually appreciate it. I always, uh, go back to the Bruins when they hired that one coach and fired him immediately. When you know it's wrong and when it says wrong as this was, this was one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL. Um, and I don't say that with any glee. I'm just telling you what I saw from this season, both on the field, but in terms of culture, press conferences, Gerard Mayo was overmatched and the crafts put him in a position that he had no chance to succeed in. And he did not succeed. And they removed him from that position swiftly. This opens up the cans of worms conspiratorially speaking into why wasn't he wearing the stand up to Jewish hate campaign? He flippantly said you can make a story about that if you want to. This now explains why the Patriots went through and tried to win the game. There's no way that this came as a surprise. If Adam Schefter was intimating as much earlier on NFL countdown, on ESPN, that he believed Gerard Mayo was going to be fired. If people like Mike Giardi were coming on this station on Friday, saying very much that he thought it was going to be an operational blow out. If the coordinators were saying to people and it was slipping through the cracks that they believed they were all going to be gone at some point. And it would be much sooner than later than Jonathan Robert and the entire craft organization, the Patriots, etc, didn't even need to wait till Wednesday, didn't need to wait till Black Monday. They can actually tell you how ready they were. The Patriots just put out a statement from Robert craft. Oh, we smoke. Check it out on the Patriots social media pages if you want to read it because it's a very long list. Okay, you know what? Actually, before we go before we catch up on trending, Joe, I'm going to let's do this right now. Here we are. Holy macaroni. Andy, this is what I said to you. If I didn't say it to you on the podcast this past week, I believe maybe I said it with mego on the W E I evening show that the, you know, there was the whole joke about like people like Jerry Thornton and others getting catfished by that letter that Andrew Callahan from the Herald typed out. Yeah, so dumb, which people got caught on. I know, but it because it, you know why? Because it read like we all wanted it to or it read like we thought it was supposed to. Like this is what we were waiting for the organization, Robert Jonathan whomever to say to the fans. All right, here it is right now. I'll share this with you all. And then we will trying to catch up, go to break, pay the bills, come back, and then I'm, we may need to go to attend tonight. Excuse me. All right, I'll do it myself. Statement from Patriots, Chairman, C and CEO Robert craft. This is what this now editorial note. This now explains why he looked like he just came out of the veterinarian's office today at the game. After the game today, I informed Gerard Mayo that he will not be returning as the head coach of the New England Patriots in 2025. For me personally, this was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made. I've known Gerard for 17 years. He earned my respect and admiration as a rookie in 2008. Well, when he joined our coaching staff, his leadership was even more evident as I saw how the players responded to him. When other teams started requesting to interview him, I feared I would lose him and committed to making him our next head coach. Winning our season opener on the road at Cincinnati only strengthened my convictions. Unfortunately, the trajectory of our team's performances throughout the season did not ascend as I had hoped. Since buying the team, I've always considered myself and my family as custodians of a public asset. We have tremendous fans who expect and deserve a better product than we have delivered in recent years. I apologize for that. I have given much thought and consideration as to what actions I can take to expedite our return to championship contention and determine this move was the best option at this time. I am grateful for Gerard's many contributions to the Patriots throughout his career and will always be rooting for his success. I appreciate his hard work and hope the experiences gained will help him in the future. As I still believe he will be a successful head coach in the league, I wish Gerard and his family nothing but success in the future. Robert Kraft, Chairman and CEO. Can I let me just say one thing, Andy? Good for you, Mr. Kraft. Good for you. Yeah, no, I mean, I think a man writing fiction and acting swiftly. And I believe that he had, he hired Gerard Mayo in an active conviction. He has got that. And I think it had to be an equally convicted decision to remove him. Don't labor over it. You know what you have to do. Do it and get moving forward. This is a big step forward, whether that's Gerard, excuse me, Mike Vrable and Josh McDaniels, whether that's Ben Johnson, you are now putting all your chips on the table and what we just talked about. It might be the most critical off season in Patriots history if they're going to turn this around. 617 779 793 7 is your number. Long gone now is the frustration of the New England Patriots winning the final game of the season and blowing the first overall draft pick. Breaking news, the New England Patriots have fired first year head coach Gerard Mayo 617 779 793 7 is your telephone number. We will keep the lines open and get the dialogue rolling with you. The good people of Pat's nation who I'm sure will have plenty to say in just moments. But first, let's catch you up on everything else trending in the wide world of sports with Joe Braverman. Oh, wait a second. That is not Joe Braverman. Do not condone Joe Braverman. The sixth rings post game show is part of W.E. No, we're saying goodbye to the post game show. We're not saying goodbye to Mayo. We're saying goodbye for the season. You could have said we're saying goodbye for the season. You know, we're saying goodbye to let me say this, Joe. Let me try to clean up the giant mess you just made going rogue acting on your own producer. Hey, this is the time where people can actually blame me. Okay. Yes. Right. If you didn't like that portion of the show, blame Joe. Yes, exactly. I will say this, Andy, a bit of a relief. Goodbye to all the anger from Pat's fans yelling fire mail. Goodbye to people wearing bags. Goodbye to the person walking into the stadium today with the Gerard Mayo Jersey who put a giant fire sign over, excuse me, over his name on the Jersey. Goodbye to all the toxicity. Goodbye to the indigestion that your coach and tenure gave me. Goodbye to all the negativity surrounding all of this. I will say that at least there is a like I personally just experienced a slight bit of relief. I'm not happy about the season. I'm certainly not happy about the game today and the result in losing the draft pick because whoever was coming to next could have been set up for much more success. But you get a real good feeling and I'd even heard some stories last night of people saying as much and that this was probably going to be the case. None of us could have possibly ever imagined it would have been this quick, this swift, and that there would have been a 500 word statement to go along with it only an hour after the game. But at least that out in pretty sure that was not chat. RKK. I'm pretty sure they didn't use chat GPT for that one, Andy. I think that one was pre-written. Holy Moses. Can I make up for my loss with a little bit more breaking news? Not crazy breaking news. I was just trying to actually if you if you steal my tweet thunder, I'm going to kick you go first. You go for right in the braverman. Chad graph. Yep, that's fine. Athletic. Yep. Okay. That's what I was going to read this. And then you decided to play the insensitive song, your rascal. Chad graph from the athletic friend of the six rings podcast tweeted six minutes ago. Patriots executive vice president of player personnel, Elliot Wolf is expected to return to the Patriots in that role. Today's Patriots move just impacts Gerard Mayo and the coaching staff. Hmm. Interesting. That is interesting. That would work with a, I don't know, Mike Verable, Josh McDaniel's combo bring being brought into coach or something like that. I don't know if it would work with a Ben Johnson pursuit. That would that's interesting because, you know, the modern, although, I mean, I guess if you say Elliot Wolf is now the football czar. And he is your GM and he gets to hire his coach sort of like, you know, everybody looks at Washington and says, well, they hired Adam Peters. And then he went out and he hired Dan Quinn and Cliff Kingsbury. And they did it from the top down kind of situation. I guess if you consider Elliot Wolf, now the true head honcho, the guy running football in New England, that's he could be the one doing the interviews. But that's interesting. I, you know, I think he has a critical job now moving forward. And I don't mean about the coach. It's about trying to actually build a roster and do a better job than he did last March and April because his job last March and April, you could argue was just as bad as Gerard Mayo's between September and December. You could most certainly argue that, although you don't know what sort of edict he may have been operating under, not necessarily with the draft picks. He, I told you, I thought he got a measure to clever with that as well. But as far as the free agency period and the moves made therein, I thought they were trying to build a high floor team that could support a turnaround year or the beginning of laying a new foundation turns out they were basically not laying a foundation. They were digging out. They actually swung a wrecking ball into the old house, were digging up that one and then starting to dig a new foundation this year. They haven't even poured the concrete or gotten anything resembling a new house prepared or ready. Wow. All right. So Elliott Wolf returns. So now that means Andy, if he's going to be the executive vice president of player personnel, defacto GM here, he has the craft's ear. He has the craft's trust. He is organizationally approved. So that means he's going to probably be involved in the new coaching search. I would think I would think he'll at least be a voice. I don't know that he'll necessarily be the voice. My guess is it's Robert. It's Jonathan. It's him. Maybe Robin Glazer. I don't know. And those would be the sort of committee, the search committee. But I got to think, I mean, this is feels like one of the worst kept secrets in all of football. I got to think Vrebel has a real legit shot at this job and they have a real legit shot to go get Mike Vrebel. And oh yeah, as I've said all along, I do think there's a chance that if Mike Vrebel's here, there's a chance that Josh McDaniel's is running your offense. And Josh McDaniel's is the one who's going to develop and lead Drake May in this offense into the future. Can I just tell you real quick that I would be totally in favor of that? That combo? Yes, I would. It's not my number one choice. Last year, Mike Vrebel was my choice. Go ahead and dig up the tapes, Joe. Don't screen the calls. That definitely was my choice last year. Now they're going to have to go through the whole coaching search. They're going to have to interview a number of candidates internally, externally, wherever you need a new defensive coordinator now. You need a new I hope they bring Jeremy Springer back. Small. Yes, most fans do. He's one of the few that fans really like that unit actually improved. And he's a super good dude and he's articulate and affable. And he owned up for Jolaney to vice-com at the other day. Yep. Great interview. Every time I had an energy effort and attitude. He is. You know what, he should be the program director at your sports radio station, W E E A Andy Hart radio. Oh, I thought you were firing Ken Laird and keep bringing in Jeremy Springer as the programmer. Sorry. I don't know, I don't know if Ken knows yet, but. Are you going to put out a long release that you just? Well, wait till my banged out. Yeah, I'm getting text messages from friends. This is from my buddy Todd, who was my older voice scout master. My condolences on your win today. See, unbelievable. So real quick, though, I would like to back to the phones momentarily. Thank you for holding on everybody. Every, you know, I get the emotion of Patriots fans because they feel like this was a terrible season, a debacle of an organization, dysfunctional embarrassment. I do. I personally, I don't know about you. I don't hold any ill will towards Gerard Mayo. Um, I like Gerard Mayo. I do think he's a nice guy. I don't think he was prepared. I think he was put in a position that he should not have been put in by Robert Kraft. He didn't say no. And I, you know, I get that he's a competitor. He thinks he can do certain things, but I don't think he's ready. And with Robert Kraft's statement, I don't disagree with the idea that maybe Gerard Mayo could be a head coach somewhere. Um, you know, the first place I thought of was, you know, all these, uh, HBCUs that have been hiring a lot of ex players to be head coaches, I feel like Gerard Mayo could get some good head coaching experience at an HBCU, where he could kind of really workshop his leadership, workshop, his organizational and team building philosophies and methods. And then maybe work his way back up the ladder, like Dion or like some of these other guys you're trying to do. So, um, I still think Gerard Mayo might be an okay leader down the road, but he's got, he's got some work to do on his own skills and career and, and management purposes. Wow. So there's a lot of surprise that Robert Kraft turned on what, um, I mean, I get, would you say turned? Did, did Robert Kraft turn on Gerard Mayo? Because to me, this is, I gave you a chance. I believed in you. I stuck my neck out for you. And you know, I don't think Gerard Mayo did anything to sort of like flout the position or the, the respect shown to him by Robert Kraft, but he just proved that he wasn't ready. And you know, Robert Kraft on behalf of his family and the entire organization and operation has, you know, just took one for the team today. He's paying out Gerard Mayo. He's going to pay out all the rest of the coaches. He's admitting to his mistake. He's admitting to the fact that they did not surround him with the talent necessary to succeed as a rookie head coach at any level, that he was not prepared, that he helped create this mess and that he is the one who needed to step in and clean it up. That's why it did look like he saw a ghost today. That's why he probably felt terribly. And that's, I, I said it in the previous break. After we heard about this news, I'll say it again. I applaud the move. It's a tough one to make. It doesn't mean you have to like it. Now you feel terribly from Mayo and the family. I've spoken with him. I'm not sure if you've ever spoken with Gerard interviewed him hung around with a Mandy. Oh, he's a good dude. Oh, absolutely. That's a very good dude. He's very a bad head football coach in the NFL. He's right now he is. I'm with you. If he goes somewhere else and coordinates defense and then gets another shot at a smaller school for a while and gets the chops he needed for an opportunity like this, because this is the marquee. This is the big time. Like coaching the New England Patriots, especially being the coach that follows Bill Belichick doesn't get much bigger than that when it comes to professional American football. Or maybe he'll be like that guy that did the Broncos game. Remember that guy that had the terrible and there he is. Having the time of his life won't be Joseph. Well, he was one and done. This basically no, no, I mean the reporter, not the man's Joseph. Oh, Sergio dip. Yeah, I don't think we'll see you be seeing him on the big anymore. No, the ESPN literally pulled him off the air after one hit. They're like, you're good. That's enough. This was the David. This shot and this now was, as I made mentioned yesterday, this was the David Lee Roth show of coaching experience. Oh, yeah. I actually texted somebody that I said he's going to go down as sort of the cleanser between Bill, the post Bill cleanser and then the true rebuild or the next generation can start. The one question I have about the idea we just talked about Mike Frable with Josh McDaniel's is, is that Mike Vrable's idea or is that the craft's idea? And I think it matters. If Mike Vrable wants Josh McDaniel's and that is a preferred combo for him, I love it. If it's the craft's imposing their plan on their head coach, I think it's a bad first step in the relationship and I think it'll be doomed to fail. Let's see if we can squeeze in one more call. Good faith. The Foxboro faithful. Let's all right. Whatever you guys were calling about, I think everything is now changing. I think we now know what we're here to talk about. Let's go to Joe who's first up? Mark in Connecticut. Hello, Mark. How are you, Mark? What's going on? Mark and Mark and Deb. Hey, good to hear from you guys. What's going on, guys? Well, we were going to talk to you about, you know, the bright side of today was Joe Milton. I think the kid's going to be a great backup for us or a good quarterback somewhere, but that was the, you know, bright spot because I wanted to bring a bright spot to the show because it didn't seem like it was a bright spot. But now we got even better news and I would love to have Mike Vrable. I've talked about it on WEI multiple times over the last couple of weeks and I think he's the guy to lead us back. But my our question is, do you think that Gerard Mayo knew before this game that he was going to get the act and that he sabotaged the number one pick on purpose? Yes. You know what? That's a great question, Mark. Have a wonderful new year best to you and Deb and the fam. I do. Now I do. Andy, I had heard that through a couple of great vines that, you know, people associated with the coaches may or may not have been disinterested in coming to the game today. Like there were some straw, there were some slight undercurrents. There were some winds swirling that there was something, there was unrest, if you will. Like, you know, I told you, I had made mention before that I had heard that Alex van Pelt felt like, you know, things were going to change and change kind of quickly. And I would say, I don't want to play the pecking order game, but if you had to look at it like, oh, who really kind of needed to go first? I hate to say it, but Gerard Mayo kind of probably earned that, earned that title of infamy, if you will, which which which which which like if you had to pick like, who do we really need to go first? Covington or AVP or Mayo? I would say, oh, if Mayo is going to go, then you just do Mayo and everybody else goes with him. It's it's a Oh, of course, I'm saying, but he earned it probably the most. Um, yeah, I mean, I didn't think Covington did a great job, and I think he was similar to Gerard. I thought he sucked on the field and I thought he had terrible press conferences. I thought he threw his players under the bus at all cost and said it's never the scheme. It's always the players and the execution. But yeah, Gerard Mayo didn't do a great job this year. We asked the question non stop on the afternoon show and we never got an answer. What does Gerard Mayo do well based on this year? And you didn't have an answer. It was hard to try to defend him other than, well, you put him in a tough spot. He probably deserves a second year to prove, you know, he's better than the spot. And other than that, you didn't have anything to actually put any footing down with in terms of keeping him. And I think the craft's probably realized that that's a, that's a great point. Actually, you know what? Now that he is the former head coach of the New England Patriots, mate, you know, he knows the organization very well. He even though he wasn't able to bring it to the table or manifest success in his one and only years, the head coach of the Patriots, maybe he'll actually be kind enough to let us know how he feels. Uh, Gerard, I'm so almost going to call you coach. I apologize. Uh, Gerard, do you think Mike for able would be the most logical choice to be the next coach of the New England Patriots? It's a good question. I just don't want to get into it now. All right. Well, I figure you've got plenty of time on your hands now, sir. So you let us know whenever you're ready for it. And, uh, thanks very much. Um, were you, were you surprised to, to, to find out via a letter delivered by Mr. Kraft only an hour after the game? It's a good question. I just don't want to get into it now. That's fine. I respect your privacy, sir. Thanks. Thanks for your efforts. 6 1 7 7 7 9 7 9 3 7 is your telephone number. More calls, more reaction, the breaking news. Everyone know more than just the Patriots winning their season finale and losing the first overall draft pick them small potatoes right now to the news that Gerard Mayo has been removed as head coach of the New England Patriots after just one season. We're reacting to it live right now with you here on the six rings post game show on WEI tweeted out, but five minutes ago, by today's sideline reporter for CBS, sharing the call with Spiro Ditas and Adam Archuleta. A DT King Quavala was told that Mike variables dalliance with the Jets was to put pressure on the Patriots to make a move with a young incredibly promising quarterback who improved every week despite very little talent around him. More cap space than anyone in stable ownership, of course, the New England job ranks high. I mean, that tracks completely, doesn't it, Andy? Absolutely. I've thought this is a really good job. You know, before it was open, Arcan and I kind of argued about this because he said Ben Johnson's not coming here. And I was like, why? Why couldn't Ben Johnson come here? You have a good young quarterback, you have cap space, you have a high pick, you have the ability to turn this around very quickly. I think it's a very and I think you have organizational stability. I don't know what the inside football view of the crafts are right now. For the longest time, you were seen as the best organization in football, right? Your ownership leadership was stability was a great spot. Now, I think it's taken some shots, but I still think it's better than New York, it's better than the Jets, better than Woody Johnson. What the hell is that playing in the background? That was just highlights from something earlier in the day. But yeah, I think that makes sense. I think this is a good job. And I think Mike Vrable's smart. He's playing the game. He's got an agent. They, you know, do certain things. Right. Of course, they also interviewed Ron Rivera and was that to put pressure on the Patriots to hire Ron Rivera. And Rex Ryan was that with Rex Ryan, sexy Rexie going back in there on Tuesday. By the way, I hope he gets the job. I really love it. I the animal Rex Ryan in this division. Oh, give me the theater. I'm already fired up. Let's make it September 2025. We have a long time to to speculate as to who the coach will be. By the way, I just shared via my Twitter platform and also on WEIs as well. You could give a follow at WEI or at fits a GFY a poll that was put up by our organization. The poll reading obviously quite simply and quickly. Who should be the Patriots next head coach? Your choices are Mike Vrable, Ben Johnson or other. And if so, please list right now, Andy with a thousand votes, the 1100 votes after just a few minutes on the Twix with 66% Mike Vrable, 30% Ben Johnson and other is getting 4%. Oh, here's a write in for Jimmy Carter. Oh, this guy's dead. We'll scratch him off the list then. That surprises me that it's so pro Vrable because I thought there was a contingent led by my guy, Christian Arkan, that wanted to branch out from the... Yeah, he's super anti Vrable, isn't he? Oh, he hates Vrable. He thinks he flat out stinks. I think it's ridiculous. He thinks he flat out stinks and is a bad coach and burnt out in Tennessee and all that. I think Mike Vrable is a tremendous football coach and leader of men. Great experience. If you don't like him because he's a defensive coach, okay, we can have that conversation. But he is a good, I think right now, he's unemployed and is probably like a top 12 to 15 coach in the NFL. Two words that explain his success. Ryan Tannehill. Oh, you mean his failure? Well, I'm saying he got to a AFC championship with Ryan Tannehill. Right. And then they made the mistake organizationally of thinking Ryan Tannehill was their quarterback and giving him $125 million. And then they made the even bigger organizational mistake of trading away AJ Brown and thinking you could just replace him with any young receiver in college football. That was the downturn of that organization. And I'm not saying Vrable's perfect. I'm not saying he's the next Bill Belichick, but he would bring, I almost said will bring. He would would bring more credibility and competence, competency to the Patriots and this organization at a time when I think they need it. And will he have a ruthfulness? He will have both ruthfulness and ruthlessness when it is required of him. Well, what is it? What is it? Hinging to pawn Andy? It is hinging to pawn him wanting the job and them wanting him to have the job. But I don't give up on the idea of Ben Johnson. Who is your your preference? Is Mike for able Fitzy? Last year he was my number one preference. Now I think about last year right now. Yes, right now. Oh, I'm all in on Ben Johnson. Oh, so Ben Johnson would be your best. Are you after when I saw the hook and ladder in San Francisco Monday, I was sold at the the the fake stumble play where all the bears believed that he was falling. I mean, he's so that the that two point can the touchdown that they ran this year where they threw a fake one hand off gave it to Amman Ra who ran one way through to golf who was wide open by 20 years. It's just so clever. Now granted he's working with elite level talent and it's a lot easier to make a nice steak dinner when you've got a bunch of dry age wagoos in the in the kitchen as opposed to some top sirloin and some London broils like here in New England. That said, I think he's a super smart guy. I think he's I think he's a great play caller and you know what else would be nice to see Andy? Again, I believe it's going to be Vrable at the Patriots beat Patriots are expected to interview Mike, Mike Vrable per Mike Reese. So that's happening. So this is going to happen. Whoever comes in, I don't I would have been I would have been stunned if they didn't interview him. And the Titans are probably like, see, I knew you were going to go with them eventually. That's why we fired your ass when you're up there flirting with them in that frickin Hall of Fame ceremony and all that. You dirty dog. You were in a year. A couple other now this is actually a very good talking point and this needs to be explored a little bit this week as well. So this from Jeff house sources among the Patriots prior regime expressed skepticism. Gerard Mayo was ready to be a head coach. He needed more experience game planning involvement in play calling and handling bigger situational decisions. How did the season play out said one source about how we thought? Yeah, no question. There were a lot of doubts in the non craft areas of the building and organization about whether Gerard Mayo was ready. I can tell you that's a fact. And I think there were even members really, really high in the organization that had their doubts. And this was sort of predictable. And that's why I think it was unfair to Gerard in a little in one sense. Yeah, is because it was kind of predictable. All the factors were in play for him to fail. He failed as you should have expected him to fail. And you fired him. That's your fault. That's not fair. I also would like to share these tweets. There's two one from Mike from Wuburn and one from Warren Sharp at Sharp football. They said they echo the same thing. So I'll read Warren Sharp's right here. Absolutely no clue why ownership would let a lame duck head coach week 18 with let a lame duck head coach coach week 18 and cost them the number one overall pick by winning. That is an extremely low IQ move on behalf of ownership to allow that to occur. It's called the lovey Smith. If they knew they were going to fire him, why didn't they fire him Thursday and just let AVP or Covington or somebody else coach? I think they told him. I think he knew. I think he knew. And then he's so he's spite. So that was a spite win. Yep. I think that was a spite. Oh God. I do. I actually do. And you know, I know people keep bringing up the Houston thing and it actually worked out for Houston because they didn't get Bryce Young. They got CJ Stroud and CJ Stroud is better. I don't see how this can work out better for the Patriots. I don't see the comparison. I don't see how losing the number one pick falling to four can work out better for the Patriots. I just don't know. There is no way and anyone that tries to convince you is an absolute fool. Let's all right. Sorry guys. Jake, Jake, Jake, Paul, John, Rick, you guys go nowhere. It is back to you. The calls when we get a chance 617779 7937. That's right.
