Time now for The Six Rings Post Game Show, presented by McFarland Energy. Breaking down everything Patriots now, here's Fitzy and Hart on WEEI. Hopefully, he's just like Josh Allen looking for his 115th consecutive start. It's a 48-yard strike and Joe Milton having a good old time. It is NFL debut and Archie still hasn't missed 10 of 10 for a buck 19 and a touchdown. The easiest thing, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, and the New York Football Giants all seem to have gotten the memo when it counted, but no, your New England Patriots decided they needed to kick off the 2025 calendar year and wrap up the 2024 season by doing something that would cost them dearly, something they hadn't done in weeks, something they had only done at home twice in the past two seasons, something that to almost a fan, no one wanted to see them do. Win a game and forfeit the first overall draft pick in the 2025 NFL draft. With the first pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the New England Patriots could have selected anyone, anyone that could have helped the organization, or more likely than not, or as we like to say around here in triggering deflate gate terms. It was more probable than not that they would have traded back and received a surfeit, a glut, a treasure trove of picks, first rounders, second rounders, third rounders, fourth rounders that would have helped with the wild talent deficiency on this football team. We lack elite players here in New England. We don't have playmakers. We don't have lots of studs. There are not lots of stars, and I'm not guaranteeing that if this operation that currently orchestrated the previous draft is in place in a few weeks or a few months from now, or if it's a whole entire new regime and we'll get to all of that coming up here on The Six Rings Post Game Show, they had a chance to hit the reset button, except this time when you stuck the paperclip in the back of the Nintendo to reset it, you know it was going to come out a golden ticket or at least a gift certificate to go get more Nintendo games. Honest to God, this team can't even lose right, and when they win it hurts. This was supposed to be the day that you lose to win, not win to lose. Honestly, I will quote from the Twitter platform, my co-host Andy Hart who will be joining us here momentarily. As a matter of fact, I believe he'll be right here with us now on The Six Rings Post Game Show just moments ago, I believe young Mr. Hart tweeted out and I quote, "Yep, first the New England Patriots wrote, that's a wrap," Andy quote tweeted it and wrote, "BOO!" Then it was, "The Patriots just notched the worst win in team history, 23 to 16, to finish 4 and 13 for the second straight season and slide from the number one pick to the number four pick. They really did blow the number one pick, unreal. I absolutely, the only explanation I can possibly have, and it sounds like Mr. Hart has joined us now here on The Six Rings Post Game Show. You guys can join us at 617-779-7937, that's your text line and your telephone line, we're here with you just after 7 o'clock today, we'll have Megadontalini join us with the locker room report, we'll get the final Drake May report card on the season from Shime Time, we may even hear from John Lyons, and we can't wait to hear from you by what Joe Braverman just texted me moments ago, the Lions are already filled up and y'all is angry and we are here waiting and ready for you, because you know what, we're not that happy either. Andy, I told you earlier this week, and I'm sure you and our can said the same thing, I told you they were going to win, I knew it, I just knew in my gut, and I think you had it, the only rational explanation for this is that Gerard Mayo caught whiff, got a scent of or just flat out was told like yeah, this is probably it, and he went out and lovey Smith this piece, made sure that they won, did their absolute best, probably the most competent game they've played offensively all season long, and blew the Patriots chance to organizationally reset with that glut of draft picks, unreal. Well, maybe he watched ESPN pregame and saw Adam Schefter say leaning towards out on Gerard Mayo's future with New England, and Gerard Mayo is well aware, he's been in the building long enough to know that if Adam Schefter says something, it probably comes from the craft level of the organization, because he's as tied in with the crafts as anybody and anyone who will listen to his very passionate beliefs that Robert Crash would be in the Hall of Fame knows that it's not just a ho hum reporter organizational bond there, Adam Schefter's tight with the crafts, if he heard that he was like well you know what, I'll show them, I'm gonna go lose the number one pick, you're not getting to trade from one to two, you're not getting to trade down from two, you're not getting Travis Hunter, you're gonna pick fourth and you know what, you'll get some crappy player who in a normal draft would go 17th overall, that's what you'll get after this stinking game, I do give Sean McDermott credit though, playing the long con, he was like oh I'm gonna make sure that the Patriots win today, I'm gonna show them, they may have a quarterback but they're not getting the rest of the pieces they need, I'm gonna keep running this division for the next foreseeable future, well the fans were laughing, they were laughing, they were laughing, I had fans coming up, I called into the pre-game show and I talked about the fact that Bill's fans were laughing in my face before the game, and then when I said why would you guys want to win this game, he said we don't, we don't want to help you, we don't want to see you guys get better, what incentive did Buffalo have to win this game, zero, why would the Buffalo Bills who were already cemented as the number two pick, excuse me, the number two slot in the postseason, why would they ever want to win this game, so as to help the New England Patriots get more draft picks so they could look five years down the road and go oh good, so when we went in there and won a meaningless week 18 game in January 2025, we helped them get the left tackle, wide receiver won and defensive tackle of the future, awesome, good job by us, of course they weren't going to try to win this game, you had to try to win even less less than that, I'll read, let me read you so, there's so many tweets I want to share, they punted from the 35, they were driving, they kick a field goal, normal, oh no, we're going to punt, why, oh well, we wanted to get our punter a bonus for kicks down inside the 20, okay, maybe that was collateral damage, but you punted, you weren't trying to win and it certainly looked like the Patriots were trying to win and I don't fault, I don't fault Joe Milton, like he's the guy that should be out there running around throwing, he got his opportunity, but you didn't have to send Joey Sly out to kick field goals, you can go for it, you can do other things and Gerod Mayo, I think this probably was his last act in his one year as Patriots head coach. Yeah, okay, I mean there are some people, I'm getting texts from friends watching saying I can't believe what I just saw, you had the edict, the memo, the directive should have been clear, simple, you don't obviously outright try to lose, but you know, when the time comes right Andy, you shank one into the woods, you tell Castle to sail it into the stands, from at Patriots seventh ring, this win is devastating for the franchise, there is no spin you can put on it, the first overall pick while already having your QB is priceless, a win sets any potential rebuild back a year plus, the bills won't even try to score the rest of the way, they're laughing at our incompetence, this is brutal. I think that reflects the feelings of a lot of fans right now, at home in the car, they're about my guess is 40,000 here today, the ones that was there, I mean, I know you gotta, you got friends in the organization, they were full well aware, Andy, the halftime, I gave away season tickets at halftime, did they give them back, hey, no, only one of the people made the field goal too, the kid that tried the 10 yard had drilled it, the other two people didn't even get it up in the air for God's sakes, so they couldn't even tank the promotional, they couldn't even tank the promotion correctly, this is a debacle, this is and this is a different move than we see same record as last year, four and 13, two things can be true and also two things can feel radically different at the same time, because last year that four and 13 felt absolutely like a cliffhanger at the end of a movie where all is wrong and hope is lost and now, this just sort of feels like somebody turned on the lights in the middle of the movie and we're like, oh, sorry, the projector broke, bye, wait, oh yeah, well, I have another term that this feels like but I'm not going to use it, you can't, you can't, this isn't a podcast where you can use those terms, we're on the public airways right now, it's, I'm not going to go blue this early in the show, yes, well, I'll tell you what blue, because this game sucked balls, footballs that would be, yes, yeah, I feel like I've just been kicked squarely in the footballs, oh, what are you going to do, whether it's only at Wolfa, whoever else they bring in, what are they going to do, they're just going to futz up the next pick, they're going to botch it anyways, you don't know that number one and number two, I understand this upcoming draft is not nearly what the 2024 draft or 23 or 22 and yes, I understand the page were and I understand how many draft the Patriots have had that did not go well in recent year, however, when you can take one pick and turn it into five, when you have maybe 15 people on your roster that would play on other NFL teams, you need to take one, I said maybe, you name them? Maybe, how much time do we have? We're on till 750. You're going to need a lot of time. I'm going to need a lot of creative. I'm definitely tired and I have not had enough beverages for that. You need like, you need to be able to take multiple swings both this and next year on tight ends, receivers and tackles, now you're going to have to go out and overpay for everything that you need in the offseason and then some and at number four, you're probably taking like everyone, we're not going to, we're going to end up doing 10,000 podcasts on the draft and everything else coming up, but you know what you're going to probably need to start getting used to? Kelvin Banks Jr. or Will Campbell, come on down, you are the left tackle of the future of the New England Patriots and that's great and all, but it could have been come on down, Kelvin Banks and or Will Campbell, you're the left tackle of the New England Patriots plus meet all your new friends that we're going to pick in the draft because we traded the first overall pick to Cleveland because they wanted Cam Ward. I can't, I in my, can I say this? Mayo smiling as he was leaving the field. This is the, I have sympathized with Gerard Mayo. I feel the plight, the fact that he was put in this situation that he's always had to apologize all season long, all the things that he's done. I have felt terribly for him. Seeing him smile full well, no, unless it's a spite smile or a vengeance smile. And I can't imagine that there would be spite or vengeance in his heart considering what Robert Kraft did for him, out late for him and the slings and arrows he took for him, sticking his neck out for his thunder buddy. As the seven, a one textor says he wins, must lose his games. Yes. Seeing him, seeing him smile. That's the first time I legitimately felt like palpable anger. I just, it made me golly. Well, it's seven 30 until Sunday night football. Yep. Not just they need, Andy, they need talent. They need, I mean, you're barking up the wrong tree. I, but I also like you, thought they might screw it up because that feels like what they are right now. Just a, here's your odd Mayo, everybody. Just what I told the players. And they're just proud of the way that they came out and competed today. Obviously, there were some guys that hadn't played as much football, you know, the rest of the season that really showed up today. You know, just there in the locker room, pretty, you know, pretty emotional. But at the same time, these guys have been turning the page, ignoring the noise, and just coming to work every day. And I'm very appreciative of that. Total, after the first one of the season, you know, coaches are nothing without the players. I just told them that again, I just appreciate all the effort. Also, total, look, today it's all about the game. We'll have enough time here tomorrow, next couple of days to address all the other things. At some point in time here, you know, I have my normal meeting with the crafts, and we'll see where it goes from there. Over there. Jordan, with that said, you get the win. How strange was this week for you, for your team? You had a couple of issues with players and the fans and things like that. And also, it's been booing today, as you guys scored. What was today? What was this week like? What was the day like for you guys and your football team? For me, like the day was, it was fine. You know, like, I felt like the players were locked in all week, even amongst all that noise. So, appreciate them for that. Jordan, what would you say to fans that are upset that today's win prevented you guys from getting the number one overall pick? Look, anytime we step foot, I've said this over the past couple of weeks, as a player, as a coach, we always want to go out there and win. They're kind of a partner. Oh, we didn't see July into Vi, played the first quarter, was that disciplinary for his comments? Look, we went into the game with the plan, and we're not there and executed. So, dried up over here. I went into the decision to sit Drake May after the first series. It was my decision, coach's decision. What were some of the factors for Jelani's case and Drake's that led you to those decisions? Yeah, all those things are internal, and I'd rather keep it that way. Jelani, what did you see from Joe today? It seemed like he kind of provided a spark the minute he stepped foot in that game, just how you've seen him develop all season to kind of culminate to this moment. Yeah, I mean, he's done a tremendous job in practice, you know, as a show team quarterback, done a tremendous job doing that, and I'm glad to see, you know, the way he came out today. He did a good job operating the huddle, and obviously started off on fire, but it was good to see. Gerard, you mentioned a couple of times this year that you guys knew you were going to take some lumps this year. You knew this was a multi-year process. Do you expect to be back next year? Do you feel like you deserve to be back next year? For me, it's all about just this game, you know, to go back to the start, it's all about this game, and we'll talk about that tomorrow. Gerard, I think some people speculate based on how you guys handled the game today and played to win that there was some conversation had with the ownership prior to the game. Did they at any point this week tell you how they wanted you to handle this one? Not at all. It just goes back to, like, any time we stepped foot on the field, we want to win. Going off of Phil's question, did you have any conversation with the front office about the approach? No, I'm the head coach of the football team, and any time we stepped foot on the field, we want to win. Gerard, down here in the front, is there any significance to not wearing the pin today? We've seen you with the pin for most of the season. No, no significance at all. I had a big coat on, it was kind of like the same thing last week on Buffalo. It's nothing about that. I apologize for not having it visible, but that's, I mean, you can make a story about it if you want to. Gerard, how do you reconcile right in the middle? Sorry. How do you reconcile if you're going to go on the game to play the game to win, not playing your #1 quarterback for most of it? I think I've said all year, we need to see, you know, as the season goes on, what we actually have, and it was good to get Joe out there. Isn't that different than trying to do everything you can to win, though? We won the game, and Joe was our quarterback. Couple final questions. Gerard, how proud are you of your coaching staff, of your players, and everybody in this organization for just going through the year, and what was like, I think, AVP, and Joe Milton did kind of a handshake and a hoop after his touchdown pass. What was that like as far as seeing that through and just kind of sum up the year as far as what you guys have been through as a group? It was great to see that handshake in a real game. You know, we've seen it a lot in practice, and it all came together today, so it was great to see. I would say as far as the staff is concerned, you know, just being able to push forward and be consistent. It's all you can really ask. Gerard, I was curious. We saw Austin Hooper a lot more today since Hunter was out, and we saw him get to catch that, resulted in an extra incentive bonus. Was that kind of a goal going into the game that you wanted to get him that bonus in this final game of the year? I'm just curious if that was kind of a factor at all. I'm not going to get into that. You know, when you don't have Hunter, who's had a great year, you know, Hooper, any other team, Hooper's probably at number one, you know, I should say three-quarters of the team, so very good player and happy for him. Gerard, how would you best summarize this year, and did you learn maybe that the team is a little bit further away than you were anticipating? I'm not going to get into that. You know, like I said, tomorrow we'll have a lot of time to talk about those things, but tonight it's all about these guys going out there winning the football game. Thank you. Okay, thanks. I don't even know what to say. I don't even know what to say. I do. I'm getting more and more annoyed. Like, don't tell me you tried to win the goddamn game. You didn't try to win the game. You played the third string rookie quarterback who hadn't take a first-team practice nap till this week. So don't tell me you played to win the game, because if you played to win the game, then your quarterback would have been Drake May for four quarters. I'm so sick of the BS from Mayo and fans. You did certain things that had no intention of winning the game. And then when people ask questions, you say, we always try to win the game. Get the hell out of here with that crap. That is absolute crap, and you expect us to take it. There's water hitting my head, and I know what's going on. Like, doesn't that annoy you? Doesn't that annoy you that we're just supposed to swallow the BS that they're spewing? And some of the idiots on Twitter take it and regurgitate it. Professionals would never tank it, never not try. You played a rookie six string quarterback who hadn't taken a real practice rep all season until this week. So don't tell me you played to win the game as best you could. Romandre Stevenson didn't play. Don't tell me you played to win the game and expect me to eat that bull crap up. That's unbelievable. And I'm not doing it. You can do it if you want, Fitzy, and we'll just pretend. But he can get as defensive as he wants and call out Mike Reese. You're gonna make a story out of the pin if you want to. You didn't play to win the game, but you found a way to win the game. Okay, maybe that's the story. Maybe it's not. But don't tell me you played to win the game. Rant over. Oh, no, that rant is going to continue. I'm going to pick it up. Yeah, and he rants is just beginning. We got three hours. I just know you're not wrong. I take that personally. Like you're insulting my intelligence. When you tell me you play to win the game by playing the third string rookie sixth round pick who'd never taken a practice rep. Stove it up, shove it up your bum bum. And also that's crap. You sent a bunch of guys to IR, your top tight end, who's your best pass catching offensive threat. Didn't play today. Elevated a bunch of guys I've never heard of. You played a secondary I've never heard of, which by the way, they might find their way on the thumbs up list at the end of the show. Yeah, true. Be that as Jones. Jack West over. These are the people that were out there trying to make it something to win the team. Someone in the second one in battle. He can't call it a real football game. When the other team started their MVP quarterback, he ran off the field and did like a hip bump celebration. They put their backup in and then they put their third string in. It was a battle of third string quarterbacks between two teams that did not want to win the football game. So you cannot call this a real football game. It was a regular season football game. I'll give you that. It took place during a regular season. This was not a real football game. No, it was a glorified preseason game that had no glory. It's mainly significant consequences. That's why it was calling it all week long. The most significantly insignificant game in franchise history. It means nothing. The four and third, like the actual win today, the the the four and 13 record. Oh, at least we didn't lose more games than last year. No one cares because history will remember that you blew a chance to pick up more draft picks to enable your roster that is ranked 30 second in the NFL in terms of talent by every website, analyst, general manager, or person who was watched football before. You finished last in past blocking this year. You finished last in run blocking this year. You finished last in past rush and sacks. All of the things that you could improve upon just by taking some swings in the draft. But yay, you beat Mike White, Mitch Trubisky, Ray Davis, Kian Coleman, and the rest of the second string Buffalo Bills in front of 37,000 people on a freezy, freezy day in early January. Awesome. The 80 there were there were okay. Early in the game down in the field doing my whole Jumbotron Joker routine. And every time the Bills made a play, there were there was a large swath of Bill's fans don't care. They're just there to have fun drink their Lebats blue and you know, not have to wait in long concession lines and do whatever prep for the lot of a lot of bills fan. There was a it was a it was a this was a house money. This was a Mulligan day for Bills fans. Either way, they don't care. And they would cheer whenever the Bills made a play. Guess who else cheered? A lot of Beatrice fans. Because they wanted to walk they saw Joe Milton run one in and throw an awesome touchdown. They were good at that point. They were good. They were like they were content. All the people I was I was watching with just kept saying the same thing. They're not really gonna try to win this, are they? They're gonna win this, aren't they? They are. They're gonna blow this. They're gonna they're gonna completely screw themselves, aren't they? Folks screw hard. We get it. We believe me. We love we understand the you know, teaching a winning culture. We've been preaching that all year long. I'm not a I'm not a huge fan of season long tank efforts. I don't want this to be the Curtis painter affair of Foxborough by any stretch. But the Giants last week gifted you something and you use you put it back and you put it back in the mailbox out front and wrote return to sender. Yep. And now you got the fourth pick. Well, it's a different sender now because it's the Titans with the one pick not to shine. I don't think I don't think people truly understand. There's a lot of people out there that are ignorant to the the draft and what was available and what is available. There's two quarterbacks projected to be near the top of the draft. There was the hope that you could trade out of one of those two spots to acquire multiple first round picks and other picks. And you're also out of excuse me, the Travis Hunter project. If you were in love with him, see you. Right. Because he is likely to be the top player and not named a quarterback to go in this draft. Some people believe he's the only blue chip talent in this draft. Only guy worthy of a top 10 pick in this draft. You're going to be outside of that. So to just because I've gotten a lot of tweets, oh, they fell from one to four. Big deal, still a top five pick. Nope. It's actually a really big deal. Ramifications of this will be felt for multiple seasons in New England when you're still a bad team moving forward in one year and in two years, it will be in part because of this real football game that Gerard Mayo and this true this troop of players and coaches decided they wanted to win and they would always play to win. Don't forget they always play to win. That's why they put their third string rookie quarterback in to make sure they could win. That's how you do it. That's the best way to do it is get a guy his first experience in the finale. That's how you show that you're trying playing to win the game. Gerard 6 1 7 7 7 9 7 9 3 7. If you would like to use words to express how you feel like you were just shoved a mouthful of crazy pills today, just like me, Andy Hart and everyone else here on the six rings post game show when you call him, you'll speak with Joe Braverman. He's also manning the text line also available at 6 1 7 7 9 7 9 7 9 3 7 Joe, let's take him to the phones. Let's open him up nice and early. Let the people just go ahead have at it. Let's air it out. Air out all your grievances. Legit. Yes. Festivist is a little late. What I will name my next child. Legit or it out. Here we go. First up today, Adam is in Rhode Island. How's the 401 feeling about blowing that first overall pick Adam? Now laughing about his job being over and he just shafted our fresh heads for the next four years. I'll take that. That's great. I didn't want Travis Hunter anyway. He probably sits in that chair in the hotel room. I don't really care. But what are you doing? Don't say you go there and win every game when you earn one score games against the Colts and nobody's getting hype on the sideline like you are when you go play the pop Warner Buffalo Bills backup team. What are we doing? All right. That was that. You know what? I have a feeling one after another. There's going to be a cascading elevation of emphasis and emotion from fans who again with them. Did they all know their place Andy? Are they all super spoiled? These people are people. They're going to be so they're going to be so mad. Can I ask you guys a question real quick just to get to the text line from the 911. They said reacting to John Mayo's press conference is that he's all done and he knows it. Did you guys get that sense? I think he's done and I think he knows it. This is the first time I was done with him quite honestly. I thought he was getting railroaded. Then I listened to that press conference. He doesn't deserve to coach him in the NFL. He's not ready for the NFL. I thought that press conference was an embarrassment. I thought the performance was an embarrassment. I stood by him because I thought Robert Kraft created this mess and it was his mess to fix not just scapegoat Gerard Mayo who had no experience, no structure, no talent around him but he's a big part of the problem. That was that was a debacle. I didn't like the way he handled the game. I didn't like the way he handled the press conference. I think he knows he's out. I think he knew he was out heading into the game. All right all the way down to Virginia where we speak to the good gentleman Jim. How are you Jim? I don't ask how we are. The answer is terrible. How's it going guys? Awesome Jim. Damn it. Yeah no I think Mayo should get fired just from this today's game. Just from that. I mean otherwise I mean I mean he didn't look good for the team. He probably set it back two years. Yep really. That's fair two years. Two years he set the team back today with a victory that he had to get so badly. Thank you for the call Jim and also everybody please before you call into the show. Don't don't chug Benadryl. Oh come on leave him alone. He was getting focused and fired up. He was tired just like I am. Well this is a tiring season. This season war on people. You know listen I love I have loved no job. No job have I loved like I love getting a chance to go out there talk to the fans. Do all the goofy funds prize filled stuff I do with the stadium. It is it is a thrill of a lot. It is a thrill of a lifetime. It is an honor and I would do anything to hold on to that job for as long as possible. But I'll say this. This season being over holy holy Moses like it's been exhausting. It's it's toxic. It has been just the the negativity back since January Andy aimed towards the franchise and the people being upset with ownership and the missteps and the walkbacks and the one score games and the team not improving and just wondering aloud who who besides Christian Gonzalez Marte Mapu Drake May and a handful of others really is going to be on the team. We're going to be a significant contributor like everything about it. There's the general tone around it isn't fun by any stretch. This is supposed to be a diversion. You know the the people that Jeremy Springer so eloquently eloquently spoke to on Friday following Jelani Tavais kind of tone deaf comments and I'm being kind kind of. I okay listen dumbass is the way I would describe it. Okay. All right. I'll thank you. I appreciate you. I appreciate clarifying. It looked like I took a shot but I was actually just all you've been used. So thank you for slamming that one up. Yep. Um it's you such a good team. That's that you're a better team than the Patriots. Honestly. Oh no question. That's not even close. But like and I'm not even saying we're the best team. It's just everybody's better than the Patriots. It's just it's so like oh no talking about football having a bad year after all your Super Bowls. Is that so draining? This year's bit this is really a content machine lots to always talk about but it's a drag. It is it has honestly been a drag and if change gets made if significant change is enacted this week it's going to be so as to completely change the tone a sea change. It you it may not even just be like oh we found somebody we think they can draft better or coach better or scheme better or plan better. It may just be because sometimes you just need to purge. All right. Remember that C word we kept using a few years ago and not the one that you want to use after this game. The credibility. They need to bring credibility to this organization. This organization from top to bottom and remember when Mike Reese said they need to do some soul searching from top to bottom and he included ownership. Ownership needs to do some soul searching. I'm with Mike Reese. Their credibility is now in question. Their credibility and ability to lead a franchise has come into question after this season and everything that's transpired in the last 12 months. This organization needs credibility kind of the way it did last time in when they were in the number one pick range when Bill Parcells brought them credibility. They need credibility right now. Speaking of C words let's go to Connecticut where Nick oh my gosh. Am I on the phone? Hello Nick. Hello. Hello. I just wanted to share that you know I've been a Patriots fan. I'm 24 years old of it. I was born and raised to be a Patriots fan my whole life and I have never once been as disappointed in this team as I have been this year. Even with the same record last year you know you were hoping you know that defense is still good and you were hoping that it was going to be an improvement this season. All I was looking for was an improvement and just like you said they've regressed in almost every every sense. It's ridiculous and I'm not even sure how I trust Elliott Wolf to make a good pick for or even if they were to train. And this time I want a real coaching search you know no more of this. Oh I'm going to hand pick the successor. I'm going to choose whoever before the whole process is over. Sputting a real coaching search real interviews. Actual people who would do a good job. I'm for one. I'm in the Ben Johnson camp. I want to see Ben Johnson with Drake May. I'm all forward. Thank you very thank you very much for the call Nick. I am all for I don't know who we do not have any intel on whether or not Gerard Mayo will continue be brought back if his coordinators will be relieved of their services. If Mike Ravel is the one that they are most interested in if you know if it's if they would want to go outside the organization at this point last year before it when the winds have changed we're swirling we thought Bill Belichick was probably coaching his final few games. I thought Mike Ravel would have been a perfect person to bring in because of the familiarity because of some of the similarities as well but at least he would be different come in and try to clean up the mess. I didn't think that they already had hand selected somebody a half decade ago by where we all probably should be right now which is a weeping wall and that the mess was actually going to get bigger the met like you cannot argue right now that on January 5th 2025 Andy the mess is not bigger than the one Bill Belichick supposedly left behind which is what necessitated the the elegant departure or however it was phrased back in January. This is a mess that's the part that you made me think there you know the the mess got bigger somehow the mess got bigger it's it's weird that you hit it it's like you know your wife left and you were saying I'm going to clean the garage today honey and she comes back and she's like I thought you're going to clean the garage and you're like well I've been moving stuff around for like three hours I felt like I did and nothing looks cleaner there's actually more of a mess you can't park the car in the garage anymore I don't spread the mess around that's what this is and I don't again I love the Ben Johnson idea I'm all in on the Mike Ravel idea I think both those guys would bring different forms of credibility Joe Milton sorry it's Joe Milton Joe uh just take us through your day what was it like with your first NFL start what was it like uh your your touchdown pressure get your ear worked on what happened in that situation and then also your uh celebratory I don't know if I'll call it handshake with AVP and what that was like just he had a smile on your face so what was it like for you yeah um today was you know was a regular day for me um I woke up around eighties uh went back home from the hotel and you know I usually I wake up in the morning and I walk my dog but today my dad and mom is here so today my dad uh walked the dogs and you know everybody else is getting dressed so I don't eat on mornings like this um it's pretty hard for me to eat so I didn't eat anything at all so I'm ready to eat um but other than that man it was a regular day to me um you know felt felt calm felt cool um everybody had my back today um just like every other quarterback that comes through here you know the team have jerks back and today I had my back so oh my ear man uh I do not know what happened um it was kind of shocking to me where everybody said I was bleeding um I was like you know bleeding and then it was like is your earrings and I was like no my earrings not in and then uh it was just the top of my ear from a scalp. Given the magnitude of this game Joe what would you say to someone maybe a Patriots fan who's a little bit disenchanted with the idea that you guys didn't lose today to get the number one pack? um I mean we got to handle how we handle our program as it is right now we can't think too far in the future or can't think too far in the past you know so we just been exactly where our feed is right now as a program like an organization you know just being here right now in the moment so you know thinking about a pick right now is way out of our hands so if they're gonna give it to us they are they do what they do it they don't they don't um right now today the main focus is the win. Joe you seem to be so exuberant you know during the course of that obviously the backflip after the touchdown run celebration after the touchdown pass when you took the final snap and you dropped to the knee you put the ball into your left arm what went through your mind in that moment? I'm gonna be honest with y'all um still to this moment right now none of this feel real um just because I did scout team the whole year you know I didn't know when my moment was gonna come you know everybody around the building just kept saying the same thing just be ready for your moment um and I didn't know it was gonna come you know today like I said all week you know it's the opportunity to present itself then I'll be ready so none of this today still feels real um and even right now it still doesn't so um I'm just trying to enjoy it um the much as I can but you know at the same time you know just be be cheerful with my brothers and you know cherish cherish the moments that I have right now before it's all over my face in the front. Joe how significant is this performance for your development as an NFL quarterback um man I feel like today was a a great step in the right direction for my development my future itself um just because you know you never know um the full length of uh average career in the NFL is three years so you know just try to take everywhere up that I get even if it's in practice or in a game you know just try to take a series as much as I can um so whatever it takes to do um whatever I got to do I do it so Joe building on what Mike just talked about in terms of thinking about where you were during the summer to this point 22 of 29 for 200 41 yards a touchdown pass for rushing touchdown what do you tribute to be able to get to this level in your first NFL action and who do you tribute to if anybody um I would say just the consistency we had um as an offense as a quarterback room itself like coach ABP and coach TC coach band Macadoo Evan like they made sure that as a quarterback we would spot on um that goes from watching film all week like quarterback has come in if we had a game next week we'll be back in here tomorrow I mean rookies got lift at seven and we'll be getting back to it so you know just uh whole point of the whole part of you know just how we prep rate um the way that we prep rate um the preparation we have for ABP the way that you know they get us right so you know just going through all that with them you know that's just the the blessing um who do I contribute that to um I'll just say everyone everyone in the building you know um everyone have a choice you either go and wake up in the morning you're gonna come here you're gonna drive here in the cold or you're gonna wake up in the morning and you're gonna be like man I ain't going to work and then now you're just letting the whole team down so I contribute that to everyone hey Joe uh at what point did you find out that you were gonna play today and what do you what do you think you proved today after kickoff after the kickoff uh it was like hey you're going in next series I was like all right but let's do it um and what was your last question uh what do you think you proved uh I don't think I proved anything to nobody I think I put it to myself like it's always been um just showing that I am able to be here um able to play this game um and just showing myself that you know it's me um and what I got I am nothing so therefore I put everything again first real quick um what kind of dogs you got waiting for you uh to celebrate this performance with no type of what dogs oh um got two pit boys at home all right nice and you mentioned that you're still grappling with this it doesn't feel really yet with that in mind how long were you waiting to hit that back flip in your mind how like how long were you waiting for that in an NFL game man I've been waiting to hit a backflip in the game period for at least I want to say whenever the USC um the USC player hit the backflip in the end zone I've been wanting to do it ever since that moment but two years prior to that moment like just I was like man I can do it nobody really expect me to do it so when I do it I feel like it's gonna blow up on media so when I got there in the end zone I was like man nobody's beside me I think it's my moment so I just you know trust it uh you know I did backflips in my past before especially in fall campus I was like man it's time it's the perfect time for it uh Joe you mentioned this week how being on the show team gave you some chances to try some things that you hadn't done before were there any points in this game where that kind of came up and you tried something you'd only ever done in practice man I threw a dangerous throw today nah it wasn't as dangerous as you scored from it but just throwing back crossfield as a quarterback you know this is very difficult to do um and a lot of quarterbacks and a lot of coaches tell you um don't do that just because you never know what it's gonna lead to but also you know just that's just bad quarterback play um just throwing back cross your body into you know multiple people multiple coverage or saying it got open like I did um and trusting them um I feel like that actually showed up because you know K booty actually be on scout team with me sometimes you get his extra reps like that and we done made plays like that before so just seeing it come in reality it was very fun sure back to the backflip had you done a backflip before and you said you had had you done one with a helmet pads spikes a little bit absolutely yes sir I have did you ever not stick it trying it with all the stuff I always stick my backflip so I don't know and then I I haven't only time I have not stuck one was when I was six now I fell on my head I had a home so so Joe after this performance and then coupled with what Drake has performed all season there's two promising young quarterbacks for the Patriots curious what your relationship is like with Drake and maybe how you guys might pair up this offseason and try to keep pushing forward together yeah well Drake my god man I don't know if there's any other any other person that's better than that like that as cool as him um you know he he's cool he don't really you don't see Drake get uh like you don't see him get mad you don't see him get riled up you know he's just cool come and collect it and has a quarterback that's how you need to be um so Drake man you know just learning from him you know it's cool to learn from everybody especially as a quarterback just because you don't want to be the smartest person in the room and I feel like that's something that I took a vintage of you know just not being a smartest person in the room here in other quarterbacks out here in Jacoby's feet here in Drake's feet and then just actually just putting it together and adding to my own game um you know and every time I talk they be willing to listen and figure out what I want to say so it's been great man no problem thank y'all god bless well the one positive from today's Patriots win I will take Andy is I like Joe Milton a lot I think he's very likable as a player as a person is he was likable from the first second he stepped on the practice field and by the way he was doing back flips all summer on the practice field he was doing it after drills after throws um he's a fun guy he's fun to watch the talent he has the raw talent he has was on display today I also thought you know this is sort of a deeper in the weeds discussion the work that Alex van Pelt and whoever else T.C. McCartney and those guys did with him um he looked like a much better quarterback than one I remembered on the practice field I was impressed with his ability to play today so I'm not saying you have a quarterback controversy I am saying you have two young quarterbacks to watch develop over the next couple years and who knows maybe you end up trading Joe Milton down the road to somebody who's in need at some point during a season but yeah he's very likable and the the raw ability is is hard to ignore the physical gifts the tools the cannon for an arm absolutely that throw that didn't count on the old holy moses on the run for ten full seconds I mean he made the the touchdown to booty easily top five passing play of the year as well just that it happened to have come the day that no one wanted to see that oh and by the way uh for anyone like myself who loves watching the bangles play at least the second half of the season bangles because they've been so fun to watch and the aerial attack and Joe burrow it is 14 nothing halfway through the first quarter Broncos they are beating the backup chiefs they are likely to punch their ticket so there goes that dream so not only do I blame the Cincinnati Bengals for inflating our expectations and causing us to think this team actually had a chance at being good this year thanks for that but they also lost to the Patriots and blew their chance at the postseason as well this sunday officially sucks six one seven seven seven nine seven ninety three seven is your telephone number or your text line to play along with the six rings post game show we will get to all your calls we'll talk about the future of durod mayo in the coaching position here in foxborough as well we'll talk to mego shime lions and you right up till seven thirty on boston sports original ninety three seven fm w e e i try i think some people speculate based on how you guys handled the game today and played to win that there was some conversation had with ownership prior to the game today at any point this week tell you how they wanted you to handle this one not at all just goes back to look anytime we step foot on the field we want to win going off of phil's question did you have any conversation with the front office about the approach no i'm the head coach or the football team and anytime we step foot on the field we want to win anytime we step foot on the football field we want to win doesn't mean you have to weird way of showing it yes they didn't want to win when they played their worst quarterback last week because they played drake may last week so they must think that milton's better because they wanted to win so they played him all day today like and intonio gipson's better than stevenson and right the whole file your backup line guys i've never even heard of in the secondary water backs battle um ill cuddy or riley saucerman ding dong whoever it was back there don't matter doesn't care i can't people just be honest because because because they're because anti so much of this is driven i thoroughly believe this so much of this is driven by and if there is a seismic change in the organization this week it will be as much for optics as anything else the world cares too much it's one of the things that you're ready for this compliment incoming in three two one it's one of the things i actually admire about you ready like that was you that was hurtful uh you just don't like you don't live your life worried about what everyone else thinks about you but how can you do that why do people do that but people too many people do that and it drives me i told you it took me 49 years to finally clear that hurdle and get over that hump myself where this is not a therapy session for why it took me almost five decades but that's the god's honest truth people care too much about what people say think and feel about them and when the organization the new england patrons ownership management etc all had by and large what i'm sure any uh any sort of consumer specialist or uh consultant would probably say is a less than ideal year they're probably concerned about what a ghastly off season this could be if not only is jarad mayo still in place but also he's the guy that led the franchise to the win that blew the first overall pick and cost the team potentially another first multiple seconds or thirds and he's the guy that all year long used some phrase some form of cash well no he you have to look out the windshield well you have to be where you are but you also have to view out the windshield toward the future or something to that he kept using the windshield of the car and the rear view mirror and all those things so if you had if you were looking out the windshield wouldn't the number one pick the best thing that for this football team you're also the guy that told tells me you make your decisions what's best for the football team so what's best for the football team while looking out the uh front window of the car is quite simple it was the number one pick it was not a win today and you knew that i believe that's why you put joe milton in for the second series of the game and yet he played one series he didn't even play a quarter no he played one series one miserable series where they had a their usual penalty on the offensive line and they got then he got sacked he got von miller his one point five million dollars it was quite a productive series in a lot of ways none good ways but in many ways um i just why can't you say what you've been saying in some sense all year long that you know this was a multi-year rebuild you knew this was a long process you do what's in the best interest of the organization things of that nature don't lie don't lie don't go out there and lie because you lied because you put your third string rookie quarterback six round pick who'd never played before on the field so you weren't trying to win the game you just happened to win the game and i don't fault joe milton i don't fault um any of those DBs you just named that i don't know del pedas and his friends back there i don't fault any of them they need to compete their asses off when they're out there you're putting it on tape and also if you don't try your hardest you're going to get hurt i believe in that like the the cosmic football gods and all that will be against you it's on the coach to manage it it's on kind of the way that uh sean mcdermett did when he punted from the 35 yard line instead of kicking a field goal there's ways to manage it throughout the course of a game you didn't manage it you managed to win it and i think it managed to cost you your job if you didn't already know that's the other thing i think he probably knew well as the nine one four said on the text line he was mad and then he remembered he asked the no is place and he calmed down i guess i guess what a rough week what a rough week yeah no i um this is i didn't expect to be this upset after this game even when i knew this result was a possibility but the way they've handled themselves for the last two or three days and i include detritwise i include uh jalani tavai i don't say it right i say jalini but jalani tavai jarad mayo and company the way they've handled themselves yeah it's annoying it's kind of pissed me off they've they've taken what a four win season should have felt like which is really bad and made it even worse than that and the future does not look bright in any way oh you got the fourth pick great job you'll take a uh tackle who should have gone 27th you'll take him fourth and maybe his arms will be long enough to block somebody maybe they won't back to the phones we go for cheerier prospects like randal up in buffalo hello randal good evening great show great job gentlemen thank you very much friend what's on your mind yeah um what was that out there today like for for that patriots team garbage garbage total garbage there's absolutely no reason for that patriots can be winning i'm thinking back to dick McPherson days that's what i that's where i'm at dick McPherson come on like this was you guys need to win that game absolutely ridiculous i'm sitting here watching this game going yeah it's fire he's done he's gone garbage idiots stupid dumb what was that all about total garbage football and if you're running up and you you got those coaches running up and down the side like oh hi five yay great it's so amazing yeah you you're out of jobs tomorrow if bob craft doesn't fire their asses tomorrow god bless you guys i mean bob craft and sons and and everybody else he what were you sitting there you got bob craft half the crap it up in the the the press box there like just staring out doesn't know what's going on and what that i mean i feel for you guys because we've been there for the last 20 years and this was a total garbage football game for your uh your fan base and i feel sorry and i'm sitting there going you got this first you you could have like a trade-away all your you got that first traffic you trade away get all the capital nope nope we don't want that randal we don't want to yeah it's a pity from buffalo days it's unbelievable there's no pity from buffalo and i pity from thank you for the call randal good luck in the playoffs uh i legitimately i legitimately will be pulling for the bills to beat the chiefs and then lose to whoever the nfc plays in the super bowl not not vehemently not like with the great vim and vigor just uh yeah that's uh that's pity called ruffle andi i uh i was at uh did my usual pre-game walking around the stadium chit chatting with the fans just making sure that i do you find any uh it took it took a while i got my 10 000 sets it hello hello anybody here here here it felt like the last of us out there today uh yeah there wasn't a lot of them um and i was chatting up a group across the street in the mobile rv lot and uh a bills fan who's been around for a few couple several decades came up to me and he said hey uh do you need any advice on sucking and i was like excuse me he's like yeah if you want to know what it's like to be on the bottom we've been down there for 20 years so if you need to know what it's like to suffer i got you covered i gotta tell you that conversation could have been very different and you've been a woman you didn't need to go there andy and the family show there's children in the car on the way home i'm sorry i blame jarad mayo and the patriots they've put me in this mood in this state of mind and it's not healthy for anyone i'm going to be honest i still blame since nanny how about your boy jjardi wilden on the phone friday telling all the aggregators where they could put it and go on i love three o'clock beers that was jjardi's the best jjardi's the best and i hadn't really had really hit me yeah the bangles are out of the playoffs because of the patriots like there's no excuse when i've been hammering home all week i blame the bangles times too we are now deprived of watching joe burrow in and the best wide receiver and football in the playoffs andy which would have been fun because nobody would have wanted to have played them because trei hendrichson's unstoppable and so is jamar chase and joe burrow at this point number one number two they inflated our expectations you remember what a dink i was after the first week saying ah no one wanted to hear it i predicted the way oh i remember yep and i thought the team was going to play like that or at least bring a similar competitive effort to make us proud all season long and that was the best game they played all year and after that it was diminishing returns they never returned to that level of toughness of pride and compete the entire season which is probably other teams stop dropping the ball in the end zone and throwing it up for grabs a lock is sicky those guys they gave you that game they cost themselves the season they cost the Patriots the number one pick mother f and few good news is though i did i had forgotten all about this but i want to thank my buddy rich keef of the jones and keef mid-day program here on uh w e i correctly predicted the Patriots record this year before the season started oh you did they did not get zero wins andy i said it was in play and then i picked them to win four games when we ever still on the evening program it was in the right yes that was back in the days of the old rich keef show at night but uh yeah so if there's unlike drad mayo who guaranteed five wins or more uh i nailed it six one seven seven seven nine seven nine three seven to text your thoughts into the program or give a call and chat up the two perkyest happiest dudes in all of pat's nation
