Hello and welcome. I'm Dr. Troy. Stephen Pressfield is a gentleman who wrote a book called "Do the Work." Now this is a gentleman that has definitely achieved a significant amount of spiritual wear with all. He has been through the grind and he has come out the other side. And I appreciate one aspect of his book, even though "Do the Work" is fine, he's helping people achieve their dreams, their desires, their goals, whether they're writing a book, or whether they're publishing something, whether they're trying to achieve something with a company, or do a project, whatever it is, he's really excellent at kind of breaking it down and making it very simplistic so that you begin the process and don't stagnate. And in his book, he talks at one point about the brain and he goes, "If anybody has ever tried to meditate, you'll understand what brain chatter is." And I thought, that's a brilliant way to put it. "Chatter." Yes indeed. And it made me think immediately, I wonder who out there listens to my podcast and thinks, "I don't relate to this guy at all." And then others who are analytical like myself, they're like, "Wow, this guy's really speaking my language." And so it always makes me wonder that how much am I really getting across in some of what I see and understand to the average person that may be walking by listening to this. But I digress a little bit because I think that each one of us has this voice that somebody needs to hear and where you might be really excited by saying, "My gosh, you got to listen to this guy and somebody else listens to me." And they're like, "I don't know what you're talking about. I don't get anything out of it." Because my wife will do that with certain people that she listens to. And I'm thinking, "I have no idea what you're getting here or how you're getting it. But I'm glad for you." And that's usually how I'll respond. So hopefully those out there that if you point them to this podcast and they're just like, "I don't get it. I understand. I totally understand and we'll just move on." But for Stephen, when he said chatter, that was just like an aha moment that as we begin to let go of this thinkingness of our mind and begin to separate this conversation that seems to never stop in our head and begin to have absolute control over that conversation. That's now something different. So as we look back a little bit at the title, where are you thinking or are you in flow? The thinkingness or image making of the brain is almost overwhelming to most people if not overwhelming. I remember being there that my brain would just literally hand me things all day long and I seem to be at its mercy. If it was judging the day as bad, then my goodness, it was going to be a bad day. And it was crazy that I just couldn't see it because you, if you haven't seen it, you don't see. And when you really don't see, you don't see it at all. And the moment that all of a sudden you see and you're thinking, "What in the world am I doing?" And you get then lost again the next moment in the brain and it tries to drown out this sense of understanding that you aren't thinking at all. You're just simply handing me a bunch of crap and chatter all day long and I think I'm going to be done with it. Now, when we start to let go of that thinkingness, let's say that we take an athletic view of this. You have these so-called athletes where they feel like they're in the zone or they feel like they're in flow as we like to call it. There's very little thinking and they're just simply being present in the moment and doing that which they see and respond immediately to what's going on in the court at a chess game, in their opponent's eyes, whatever it is that they're noticing. On the field, it just doesn't matter. Being in that wonderful flow can happen anywhere. When I am in my office and I am high intensity with clients, I am in flow. I'm intensely listening. I'm gathering information. I'm making split second decisions though. I don't like to call them decisions. They're simply it's simply a leadingness and I'm being led constantly. If I'm on the volleyball court, I had the opportunity to play after years of not playing and immediately slipped back into that role of just flowing and moving and doing what I see that is happening and making plays and having a great time without any stress whatsoever. So in the state of flow being very present, there is this ease and this peace and this joy that flows all around you and when you begin to watch the brain more and more and don't don't relinquish this control over the thought process, meaning I have absolute control on what I let the brain consider. Think about the images it makes, everything it tries to hand me. I usually tell it no thank you. But when we go into that deep level of creative thought to solve a problem, there is a little different level. The brain will still try to do things actively where I'm still trying to listen and get guidance from that infinite intelligence that we are part of that is God, that is Christ, whatever you wish to call it, that is the Holy Spirit's voice. I'm not daunted by any of those aspects. If you are, then nullify those things in your mind and replace with what you understand to be that universal intelligence or God that is within that constantly wants our very best. He's not against us. He created us for joy, for peace, for love, for life, for light, for the infinite pleasure of existence. If you don't believe that, then your God and mine are very different. But as we look within and get that listening voice very clear and know when to not listen to the brain and know the difference rather of the brain's kind of talking and fear driven communication to the actual inborn creative intellect that we're one with that is God. As you get to that point of understanding the difference between those two, you now have this beautiful state. Now, for those of you out there that think that maybe you got this far and you're like, I disagree, you have to plan out your life because if you don't plan, then you plan to fail. And I love these little slogans. They're quite chipper, aren't they? But for me to ask you this question, do you really think that the world and all of its infinite twists and turns and possibilities that you could even for a minute navigate these landmines of this place and even hope to come out on top at all without any guidance from your internal loving self? I mean, come on, really? Are you really going to think that you do it all? Then I want you to boldly continue to profess that you know how to do everything and you don't need any help from anyone and just see how that works out for you. But for the rest of us that are like, you know what, I kind of always thought like I had guidance, like an intuition, like I just knew that I knew and yes, that would be one way to describe that flow or that state of let. When we begin to just simply let and we don't mind whatever happens, flow becomes much easier. There's not this anxiety. This must, I must achieve, I must create something. If I don't, I'm going to be a loser or we're going to be horrible or things are going to be awful. And as we begin to let go and we begin to watch this brain more and more, we realize that this thinkingness is not all it's cracked up to be and this chatter becomes something that we recognize more carefully, more fluidly, more understandably. We're not completely against the brain. We're just simply saying, no, thank you. I know that I have programmed you with many things to be fearful about, to watch out for, to be in this survival type mindset, but I'm not interested in surviving anymore. I'm interested in being completely creative and allowing that which is within me and everyone to do the most glorious thing that it can at any given moment. Sometimes it doesn't look really spectacular, but I'm not here to judge it. I'm simply here to allow it to move and watch. And as I begin to separate the real self in me from the false brain self, this conglomerate of hurts, of ideas, of categories, of whatever else you want to say that the brain has done your entire life, trying to judge this good, judge that bad, be afraid of that, steer clear of this, hey, you want more of that and that and that, as it's got all of these opinions and I let them all go, I begin to now operate in a constant state of flow, a constant state of leading or being led, and a constant state of not minding whatever happens. And in those times, I find the most amazing amounts of love, the most amazing amounts of joy, the most amazing amounts of peace, even though around me, people might say, this is a complete nutter chaos. And I look at them and say, don't worry, it's all good to clean up in just a moment. Hang in there. And so we sit in this state of flow, this state of let, the media and the world has not gotten a hold of let at all. So David Hawkins is the first one, I believe he wrote the book, let or letting go. I think it was in 2012, if you wish, it is excellent, an excellent read. And the world certainly hasn't got a hold of let, but you can. And that let can be quite powerful in the aspect of being at peace, of being joy-filled, of not getting all bent and not getting in a state of fear and unhappiness. But it depends on what's your decision. Is your decision for love, for peace, for joy, or is your decision for unhappiness, drama, fear, anxiety, anger, and whatnot. Guilt and shame are not far behind. If that's your decision, I don't want to interrupt you from your play toys. But when you're finally done with those things and do not want any more of them, I'll certainly welcome you and invite you onto the bench of love, peace, and joy.
