[music] Welcome back everybody. You're listening to the Mind Mastery Podcast. Don't listen to it. Your ego won't like it. We've been talking about Doug's latest best-selling book, which is Don't Read This. Your ego won't like it. And I really, really recommend you get your own copy of it because that way you can follow along with us a little bit better. Of course, we can only talk, you know, on a very, I don't want to say shallow basis, but overview-type basis of every part of it. And you're going to get into it in a lot greater detail when you read the book. Yeah, the book is a nice, big, thick, meaty book. The cool thing about it is it's written in all very short chapters. So it's really easy to accomplish reading this book because it will actually pull you through from chapter to chapter. And obviously, the level at which we can talk about it here, we're going to go into areas that we don't go into in the book because of the framework of this conversation, but the depth of the way you want to really dig into is in the book. And that's why we either recommend you get the book and work with it. That's right. So head over to www.dove.dov, D-O-V, Baron, B-A-R-O-N, .com, and grab your copy and get it while it's hot, right? Exactly. So last time we talked, we were talking about the foundations of success, and we talked about the first three, which was, of course, your physical relationship, your physical, the relationship, and financial. And, of course, your relationship to all those aspects. We talked about how they tied in, how they connected to each other, and there's actually six foundations. That's right. So today we're going to cover the other three in some depth. So, as Scott just said, we talked about the physical. So understanding that it's your physical body, but also your physical environment, and understanding how that impacts you and how you've got to have mastery over that and get you ego out of the way. We talked about relational, the relational foundation, and how the relational foundation is really important because it's all about relationships, and your relationships determine your residence, to determine so much. So we've got to clean up that and get the ego out of the way of that. And then we talked about financial, and we talked about how you can only have the level of success, the level of wealth, the level of anything, to which your consciousness can hold. And what that means is you've got to have the belief systems and the whole consciousness in place, you know, to hold a greater level of that. So now let's go on to the next three of those foundations of the six. We talked about the first three years of the next three. The next foundation is what's called the intellectual foundation. So the intellectual foundation, again, is an important one. These are the basics of what, you know, think about building something, some structure. Of course, you always have to have a foundation. That's right. And the stronger the foundation, the better the building is going to be. Right. And it will fall down if you don't have a great foundation. Yeah. Just imagine building a house on the beach on sand with nothing going into hitting bedrock. Right. Well, as soon as there's a little storm, you're probably going to be blown over. Exactly. So you want to be building these six foundations underneath the structure of your life. So the next one is the intellectual foundation. The intellectual foundation, I think, is a really interesting one because this is an interesting time, as you well know, we are bombarded by information. Yeah. Right. Lots of knowledge. Right. Lots and lots and lots of knowledge. There's more information than we've ever had before. And I can remember being at school, which was three or four years ago now, at high school. And when they, I remember them talking about information was now doubling every 10 years. Right. So they were talking about, it was doubling every 10 years. Probably every 10 minutes now. It's close to that. I think it's 14 minutes. Oh, you're kidding. I was joking. No. Oh God. It's about every 14 minutes. Wow. The trouble is the information is doubling, but the quality information is going down. So the wonderful thing about the internet is access to information. You've got free access to information. You've got more information than you ever was. And now you can reach it out. You don't even have to have an encyclopedia Britannica on your shelf, but you can research everything online. The problem is there's no filter. So there's a lot of junk out there. There's a lot of people who don't know anything about the subject they're writing about or putting information about. And I don't mean that as an insult to anybody. What I'm truly saying is we've got to be a lot more discerning about the information that goes in. And that's why the intellectual foundation is so important because the foundation of the information you let in. So the intellectual foundation is you must be on guard with your mind. And again, now we're back to the ego mind because the ego mind will say, it doesn't want certain things. I know that as we talk about. So I don't need this anymore. I don't need that information. So no, I don't need that. Well, I guess the other thing that could happen is you could look for sources that support your position, which doesn't necessarily mean that they're accurate or right. No, exactly. So you've got to be willing to. If you look at a great thesis, whether that's in a documentary or whether it's in a book or any form, if you look at a great thesis, they have to propose opposing arguments. So you can really look at that. And all too often, we type into the internet and our Google search that we're looking for the information that really qualifies what it is we believe. And the problem with that is that we're qualifying our own limited thinking. So part of the intellectual foundation is to broaden your thinking. It's to start thinking about stuff you don't necessarily believe in. I said that a long time ago, that years and years ago, I made a decision to at least once a year study something I thought was absolute crap. Something that I totally disagreed with purely and simply just see if I still did. And what happened is, yeah, many of the things I came away going, yeah, still things absolutely nothing about it. But some of the things were like, wow, I never thought about it that way. You remind me of a friend of mine who got an email saying, you've got a virus. And so it said, do a search on your computer and you'll find this file. And it's been put on your computer by this virus and delete it. So she did. And I said, well, who sent you this email? Oh, I just got it. And of course, the next question she said was, how do I make my computer work because it doesn't work anymore? It was a human virus basically. And humans told you've got a virus. Yes, right. And so all these humans would go around, delete this file and then Windows wouldn't work anymore. And she of course, she had sent it to me, which is why we had the conversation. And I go, huh, this is interesting. And then I went on the online and I did a search on this particular virus. And the first thing that popped up was an authority site like Norton or McAfee, which does, you know, their business is antivirus. And it said, this is a spam antivirus email that tells you to delete an very important file on your computer. And now you've got to re-install Windows, get the file back sort of thing, right? And I thought, oh, like, check. Right. But that's, to me, that's so key in the intellectual foundation is because you have to be discerning about the information you allow into your head. Now, discerning is not judgmental, because as I just don't want to let it in. But you have to be discerning. You have to pay attention. Like, do you sit and watch CNN? You know, the constantly negative network. Now, I don't think there's anything particularly bad with CNN. But I know that people watch it religiously. Like, they, you know, they get up in the morning and they flick on CNN. Before they go to bed at night, they flick on CNN. In their lunch break, they flick on CNN online, they go CNN. And I don't know if you've noticed, but CNN doesn't tend to have a lot of good news. Yeah, it's all bad news. Right. You know, I mean, news is bad news, right? So you have to think about that, be discerning. How much time do you give to positive reading, personal development? I want to talk about CNN just for a second, because I think you just made a great point. What is the mind, the worldview of somebody who has been inundated with CNN news for like a month constantly? Well, there's war, there's famine, there's catastrophes, there's crime on one crazy. You shouldn't be leaving your house and hopefully a plane won't hit you if you stay in your house. Right. All those sort of things. Now, we happen to be doing this podcast on dog's terrace, which is like, we are surrounded by magnificent flowers in a magnificent environment. And we're outside in the sun. And, you know, we're not particularly worried about being robbed or a war or a car, you know, hitting us and crashing into us. So really, I mean, this is an environment of peace and love and joy. Right. And so we have a totally different world perspective. Like I know people that say, let me give you this example actually, because it's from a friend of mine that we were just talking about, she went back to Kenya, which is from Africa originally. And so she went there and she stayed with her family. And her family, her driver, you know, the family had a driver. The driver picked them up. They're driving them through this part of town. And he says it's called whatever the part of town is, right, could be like Greenwich Village in New York or something like that. Right. He says, this is the worst part of town. Do not come here. Like they'll rob you, they'll kill you, they'll take your firstborn baby, all of that sort of stuff. Right. She gets to that, you know, she visits her family, blah, blah. Now she happens to be working for an international volunteer organization. She is also there on holidays and also to visit projects. Right. Right. So this is part of the way that she paid. Sure, the flight could get paid, right? So she calls up one of her volunteers. And where can I meet? And the volunteer, who's a woman, there by herself, right? Young woman in her 20s, says meet me in Greenwich Village, New York of Wombasa, whatever. Like the same place, this guy says, don't go on. She says, oh my God, I'm going to be going there and being with all these people. So she goes, she, they meet at exactly the spot where the driver told her it was her. Don't go, don't go. And then this woman takes her and they walk through this neighborhood and she shows her all the work that she's doing in this neighborhood. Everybody is chalk, nice to them. Of course. You know, they're pleasant, they eat in one of the local little restaurants and everybody, you know, there's no poison, there's no being stabbed, there's no bombing going on, there's none of this stuff going on, right? She's going, wow, like I just had a great time in this area. Right. Right. So if you're listening to the CNN, they're going to be telling you about, you know, the crime capital of the United States, you should never go there. Right. Well, you know, which is Washington, DC, by the way, just where the government resides, you see, you know, the biggest crime city in the United States. Well, I guess this is where people practice to get into the CIA or the FBI. Let's go through this. But yeah, I mean, like, why wouldn't you go there and look at the Lincoln Memorial or look at all those amazing things that they've got there, right? And in a city of like 20 million, if there are 100 deaths, I mean, there's still 19,999,999 deaths. Well, yeah, you know, think about it even a simple thing of like the recession. Okay, the recession has become very real for very, very many people. So I'm not going to say it's not real, because it is real for many people. But if you watch the news telling you about the recession, you know, it's telling you, you know, that unemployment is a record high of 10%. Right? Now that may be high, but that also means that 90% of people are working. Right? It means 90% of the people are working. It also means that of the 10% or not working, some of them don't want to work. And I'm not saying they're bad people. I'm just saying, that's, you know, their choice. They decided I really want to take the summer off. Right? You know, it's a nice summer. I want to take the summer off or I will take the winter off and I want to go here. Right? So I'm unemployed, but other numbers are real. I mean, you know, we have to keep things in perspective. I'm not saying that we should become lackadaisical, but I think we have to be discerning about our intellectual foundation about the information we let in. Yeah, it's really important. Well, and I want to just comment on that too and say that change, like you're saying, you know, three 14 million minutes, the information doubles. Right? Well, what is a viable operation 10 years ago may be a waste of time today. And it may be that those, we're going through this change that's occurring because we're, we're moving from a very high polluting type of environment to a very low polluting environment, which means the people that were doing stuff that was causing all the stuff to go into the air are being shut down and hopefully people that have put it doing stuff that's out the environment are increasing. So you may be, it's a shift of where the jobs are as opposed to lack of jobs. I think you're absolutely right because I think that what happens is that when an industry changes or closes or changes or whatever it is, it's devastating. Yeah. Well, look at when cars started, the poor horse and buggy business, you know, I mean, we don't see horse and buggies anymore, right? You know, these people have said about it. No, but I mean, at the time, it was devastating. Sure, it would have been very bad for the guy who had all these horses and nothing to pull. And I can remember when things were becoming automators, when there was suddenly, instead of manual workers in a factory, it was an automatic, and I remember the outrage of that, of how many jobs would be lost. Oh, I worked at a grocery store and we used to put little price tickets on the beans, cans of pork and beans, right? Well, all of a sudden, if it's going to be scanned with this UPC, then all these people can be out of jobs because you don't need to be stamping all these things anymore. Right. Well, you know, there are more people working in the grocery store today than it was then. Right. So, you know, I mean, it's part of that lack mentality. Yeah. So your intellectual foundation is really about paying attention to the information you allow in. Then the next foundation is your spiritual foundation. And this is a very important one because I want to make it very clear distinction between spiritual and religious, and I'm always nervous about using the word spiritual because people very often interpret that to mean religious. And when I say it's a foundation, when you have a spiritual foundation to sell, you feel connected to source. If you're connected to something bigger than yourself, a divine energy, whether you want to call that Jesus would a threat or anything else. It's fine. Whatever you want to call it. But there's a sense of being connected to something bigger than yourself, both as an energy source and as a purpose. So you can in fact be a complete atheist, but really have a sense of purpose about your life. And you can therefore have a spiritual center. Hopefully that makes sense of something because it's not about religion. And if you don't have a clear spiritual foundation, the problem with that is that you're likely to have taken on the spiritual beliefs or spiritual ideas that you've been fed and told are spiritually true. You know, I'd do a big piece on this and this may be a little controversial. And hey, I've never been controversial. So we'll do it for the first time. I was shocking. I know. But you know, we told people don't listen. Exactly. Don't listen this by if you did your ego might not like this by at all. It's particularly if you have a religious ego. And that is this. You know, for me, if you were born into a religion, because your parents are that religion and now you're claiming to be that religion, I'm sorry, that is not your religion. It is not your religion unless you chose it. And if you chose it, I have no problem with that. But you don't have the right to claim it just because you were born into it. And I really think that that's worth challenging yourself on because at the end of that, when you look at them, maybe looking at other religions or how they're run or some other practice, you may decide to go off to investigate one of those. And at the same time, you may come back to your own, but at least you will have chosen it. And that is a solid, spiritual foundation is when you have made the decision for yourself and then you're connected to source via your own decision, not via some genetic predisposition as in your mom and dad passed it down to you. You know, your mom and dad was a Catholic or Jew or a Muslim or Hindu or Buddhist or whatever it is so therefore you are, that's not true. You have to choose for yourself. That is your spiritual foundation. So the final one we're going to get into here, because I think this is the simplest to say and the most powerful of all of them, because in truth, all of the other five of the six foundations are worth the whole in the donor. There was nothing without the sixth one. The sixth foundation is the foundation of wisdom. The sixth foundation, the foundation of wisdom, simply means that you go from knowing to doing it. Oh, okay. So it's easy. I know that. I know that. It's easy to just say, you know, even as I went through the first five, whether in the last podcast or in this one, oh yeah, I've got that down, I've got that down, I've got that down. Well, are you living it? Are you living it? Because that's the question. The foundation of wisdom. Wisdom is not knowledge. Okay. So people have knowledge. Wisdom is the people who know how to apply that knowledge into their lives. And that's what I'm asking you to do is to take a look at each of the foundations, whether it's your physical, your financial, your relational, your intellectual or your spiritual. Look at each one of those and ask yourself the question. Am I really applying what I know here? If I claim to know it, am I really using it? If I'm not, then I don't have the sixth foundation, the foundation of wisdom in place. And without that foundation in place, what you are really is a regurgitation regurgitator of information. Just your parroting. And there's something much deeper than that and there's the experience. And so many of us live a life of parroting. It's like we're saying before about choosing a religion. You're parroting the fact that you're a religion. I mean, I was born, because I've been gone much longer than I live there, but I was born in the UK. And people's religion is their socketing. Because religion comes from a Latin word, religion, which means to bound to. So that which I'm bound to. So you take a band and you take a rope and you bind yourself to it. And maybe it's a new religion. So I mean, I knew guys, kids, people, their mom and dad were many United fans and they're born into a many United family. So they support many United. And they would not get married on a day that was a home game, because that we interfere with them going to the church of Old Trafford where many United play. So it's a religion. And it's a past on one. Very much so. Without any freedom of choice. And so we don't have any wisdom if we're just adopting the intellectual foundations given to us. And the new crusades, of course, when you watch some of these games and you've got the Man United fans throwing beer bottles at the Liverpool fans. Or was it less of that than I was watching. But you know, that was, I mean, those, you know, the UK hooligans and everything else. I mean, no, that was just their version of the crusades. Of course it was. I've never thought of it that way. Yeah. And you're going out to convert the. The off with their heads is they don't believe us. Exactly. Oh my goodness. So it's, it's, it's, it's really, when you start shifting and understanding that these adopted belief systems, which are our intellectual foundation and become how we live our lives without ever stopping to go. Is this really mine? Yeah. Where do I even want it? Do I want it? Do I believe in it? It runs me subconsciously or unconsciously. You know, I honestly believe that 98% maybe more of the prejudice in the world is not real. And what I mean by that is it's not the way somebody actually believes. It's just an inherited belief. It's an adopted belief that was given to them by some loony in their history or their background who said, you know, we're born in this part of the world and we hate them. Yeah. Right. And this is the Clarence and the McCoy's or something. Yeah. You know, 25 generations later, like, why are you guys fighting? I don't know, but we hate them. Exactly. You know, and it doesn't matter whether it's color, creed, neighbor, whatever it is. Why are you fighting? Because you believe something that they don't believe, or they don't believe what you believe, but do you believe it? Well, of course I do. I'm a man. I'm one of these. Right? I'm a man. You're not your fan. So, yeah. I mean, people, people are terrible. Yeah. So why? Why is that true? Well, because it's always been true. No, it's not true. No, simply a belief system. So those are your six foundations. So you've got physical, relational, financial, intellectual, spiritual, and the sixth, and probably the most important one, is the foundation of wisdom. These are the six foundations of absolute, real, full spectrum success. And the sixth one is the foundation of wisdom. And that is the application of what it is you know about all the other five.
