This is the Evil Never Dies Podcasts Midweek Show. Keep it evil, everyone! The Evil Never Dies Podcast. The Evil Never Dies Podcasts. Welcome back to the Evil Never Dies Podcasts. I'm Brett. I'm back for the midweek episode. Yay! I hope all you evil ones are doing good so far this week. I guess I'm feeling a little better. I still haven't passed this damn kidney stone yet, but at least it's not poking many more and I'm not doubled over in the fetal position puking my guts up. Anyway, enough of my problems. This week, I'm going to be covering another typo negative album. This one is from 2003 and it is the album Life Is Killing Me. It's their sixth studio album. It was released on June 17th, 2003. And it was recorded at Systems 2 Studio in Brooklyn, New York. The genre is goth metal, heavy metal. Length is 74 minutes, 30 seconds. Released under the label Roadrunner Records produced by Josh Silver and Peter Steele. And also, this was their last album on Roadrunner Records, by the way. Band members on the album, Peter Steele, lead vocals, bass guitar, additional electric guitar and keyboards. Kenny Hickey, backing vocals and co-lead vocals. And electric guitar, Josh Silver, backing vocals, keyboard, sound effects, and drum programming. And Johnny Kelly, backing vocals, drums and percussions. But he didn't actually play the drums on the record itself. It was programmed. And this was the last album that they did that. Additional personnel. Again, we have the Benson Hoist Lesbian Choir, which is actually the band themselves. Paul Bento on Satar. Tambora and Drum Machine. And Pandit Kenar, Kay Cine, played the Tabla. And Sal Abrouscato, who used to be their drummer, backing vocals on a song. Technical personnel. We have Mike Marciano, engineering and mixing. George Marino mastering. Rebecca Waterfall did the sleeve design. And Daniel Moss did the sleeve photography. And this album peaked at number 39 on the Billboard Top 200. And number 87 on UK albums, the OCC. And it did fairly well over in Europe. Now, this album's title, it basically refers to Peter Steele's dissatisfied outlook on life and experiences with mental illness that he had at the time while they were writing and producing this record. And the lyrics concerning relationship problems and the illness and death of his parents. I guess he was pretty broken up about all that, especially his mom. Now, when they recorded this, Peter Steele used a custom Fernandez tremor bass. And it was built to his exact specifications under his sponsorship with the company. I guess they're a Japanese guitar company. This album was actually leaked on the internet before its release. And it pissed Josh Silver off, pretty bad. He released a statement online complaining that the leak essentially took revenue away from the band, which it probably did. Alright, let's go over the track list here. Track 1 is 13. It's an instrumental cover of music featured on the Monsters TV show. Track 2, I don't want to be me. And that was released as their only single on the album. And there was also a video of it. And I just posted that last week for Type O Tuesday in the Evil Ones group if you want to check it out. Or just look it up on YouTube. Track 3, less than 0. Track 4, Todd Ship Gods, above all things. And that is about his father. Track 5, I like goils, girls. But Peter Steele being hit on by gay guys at clubs after his playboy's spread came out. I think that was like 95, 96. Track 6, a dish best served coldly. Track 7, how could she? And that's about Peter's obsession with television shows and all the women in these television shows. From the 50s on up till now I guess you'd say, or before he died. The lyrics is actually all the women in a bunch of TV shows. It's sort of weird, but it's a good song. Track 8, the title track Life Is Killing Me. And that's also about his father. Track 9 is Nettie. And that's about his mother passing away. Track 10, we were electrocute. And that was featured on the Freddy vs Jason soundtrack. Track 11, I-Y-D-K-M-I-G-T-H-T-K-Y. Give me that. It stands for, if you don't kill me, I'm going to have to kill you. And I just did, today actually a game in the Evil Ones group and someone won some stickers. So shout out to Jenny Simard Lebranche. She is one of the hosts on the Unfreaking Believable Podcast. And a member of the Evil Ones group. So thanks for playing, Jenny. Your stickers are in the mail. Alright, on to Track 12. We got Angry Inch. And it's based on the off-Broadway musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch. It's about a botched sex chain operation that went horribly wrong. Track 13, Anesthesia, Track 14, Drunk in Paris, and Track 15, The Dream Is Dead. And there was a European bonus disc released also with a song Out of the Fire, which was supposed to be WWE wrestler Kane's entrance music, but Vince McMahon wouldn't sign off on it. So evidently he's not a type O fan. Next we got Christian Woman, the butt kiss sellout mix, suspended in dusk, blood and fire out of the ashes mix, the cover of the song Black Sabbath, cinnamon girl, the extended depression mix, and haunted the perversion. And that is the track list for Life Is Killing Me. Alright, let's go over the tour here a little bit. They only had like 70 dates on this tour. So most of them were in the U.S. But they started it off on Friday June 13, 2003 at CBGB in New York. Then off to Europe and they played some clubs over there and did a couple of festivals. Then came back to the U.S. and did a co-headlining tour with Laguna Coyle. That lasted to the end of September of 2020 or 2003. And then in October they got on a tour with Cradle of Filth and Moonspell. And the end of the tour on December 22, 2003 at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines, Iowa. And that's all I have for the tour info on this tour. Now what do I think of this album? They sort of went a different route musically sounding on this. I really like Kenny's guitar work on this album. It's very melodic and a little different from what they've done before. But sounds awesome. And Josh's keyboards are, I guess you'd say, very melancholy. Just sort of laid back mellow. Like I said, a little different than past albums. And Peter's voice to me seemed a little deeper than it usually is. I don't know if he did that on purpose or just the way it came out or what. But a good job on the vocals on this also. I can't really say anything about Johnny's drumming because he didn't actually drum on the album. It was all programmed in. But he's an awesome drummer, seen him live before he does an awesome job. How did I rate this? I'm going to give this album a four, for sure. Like I said, I'm a big typo fan and I don't personally don't think they've put out anything bad. Hardly anybody's perfect, so I'm giving it a four. So that's all I got for this week everybody. Thanks for watching, listening, join the Facebook group, the evil ones. Like and subscribe button on the YouTube and I will talk to you or we will talk to you Sunday. I don't know what we're doing yet, I think. I don't know. I guess you'll have to wait and see. Thanks again everybody. Stay tuned for snippets. If you've never heard this album before, get a taste of it. Oh and also we're working on getting some new intro and outro music too, so it should be pretty cool. Trying to get it done here in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned for that. Alright everybody, Steve will have a good rest of your week. Bye. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Like a Jew, in ancient Spain, of what Christ named it, "Pay with Pain" Marinde.
