[Music] What's up, Evil Ones. Welcome back to the Evil Never Dies podcast episode 267. It is 267, and Brett's finally here again. I'm here. If I was going to do the show by myself again, I had a kidney stone attack is why I couldn't do the. You've got a excuse after excuse, after excuse, but God forbid I'm not at a show, yeah. Alright, I like fucking with you. That's about enough out of your lips. Now look, you can see Bell Lagosi in the corner behind me, isn't that creepy looking? Oh yeah, yeah, that's cool, man. I just keep building on this studio. Looks good, man. You've got it set up cool now. Yeah, I think I'm done. Added some more guys there, or more room for your guys, and I keep the Halloween movies just for you. Just for me, huh? Isn't that nice? Well we are named Evil Never Dies after Halloween, so. Is that the box that you got there? No, it's actually the four K's that screen factory put out. It's the originals. I don't even have fucking the other shit out. You got zombies too, or? I actually took those away as well and I especially got rid of them done last three. I don't think I'm just going to get rid of them completely. These is actually up in the box set. I don't think zombies came out on this Blu-ray collection. Is that what the different covers? Yeah. Okay. Well, let's just look at Resurrection for, say, yeah. Okay, yeah. You know, I used to think this was the worst Halloween movie, but I no longer think that. By far, Resurrection, it looks like a fucking masterpiece. Masterpiece. Compared to what we've had to put up with the last few years, so. Yeah. I will never talk bad about Resurrection again. I'm curious to what this TV series is going to be like that's coming out this fall. I have no idea. I'd rather see the Jason TV series, but I think it's being delayed. Oh, yeah. We'll see. We'll see. So, what do you got going on? Have you anything? Nope. Nope. Good job on the midweek, man. That was a good job on the. Yeah. Do all that together last second and it seemed to go pretty good. I've learned not to do poison. I'm going to stick with my power metal bands. Oh, yeah. Well, stick with power metal. All right. Tonight we're doing one that Carl picked. I did pick it. And I have never seen this movie before. I can't believe you've never seen this. I had never seen this before two nights ago. I can't wait to hear your comments on it. So tonight we're doing the film Waxwork from 1988. '88. I remember I would rent this from the video store every time it was in stock. Oh, yeah, literally and watch it again and again. It was one of my guilty pleasure movies when I was a kid. Do I still feel the same way? We'll find out tonight. Ooh. All right, Waxwork, comedy horror film, written and directed. I don't find it no comedy. It's more of a dark humor, yeah, camp, sort of like evil than to, or chainsaw too. It's not comedy. I hate when people say this movie is a comedy. OK. So we'll take that out of there. Yeah, that'll get it in and out all right. Yeah. Written and directed by Anthony Hickox, produced by Staffen Orenberg, cinematography by Jerry Lively, edited by Christopher Sibelley, music by Roger Belan, production companies or Pala Feat, Pala Pictures Corporation, and HB Film Rowan, distributed by Vestron Pictures. Yes, it was. And I guess they had a hard time even getting it just in the theater, but Sam, yeah, nobody wanted to do it. Well, remember, this is whenever the horror movies were starting to fade away slowly in the late '80s. Yeah. Where were we at on Friday the 13th by '88? Shit, what were we price, six or seven, probably at least. Halloween. Four and five, yeah. Four and five were out in Elm Street. So we were starting to hit sort of the dark age of horror movies as far as popularity goes, not necessarily to me, but just for his mainstream, they had started to fall a bit. But they were living very well in the home video market. Yeah, I think that's where they made their money. Oh, they made a lot of money on this movie in the home video market. I guarantee you. Yeah. I couldn't find that info though. I couldn't either. I look for it as well. Did not see it. All right, it was released on June 17th, 1988 as a running time of 96 minutes, country United States, English language, budget was $3.5 million. And it made $808 and $808,000 and $114 for the first week it was out. In disclaimers, it was only in a very limited amount of theaters. Yeah. So it's not like it was a flop, it just wasn't in theaters. Yeah. So it had no way of making money. Exactly. All right, let's see here. Once you go over the plot of this, Carl. Well, the beginning of the movie is sort of weird because it shows, um, uh, they're killing this mate magic guy apparently and the still is tough and they throw him in the fireplace and set his face on, set his head on fire. And he finally gets up and falls back in the fireplace, dead and burns. I really don't understand why the movie started that way because it really never explained very well what the hell that meant. But we'll go ahead to the further on, um, you got these, whether it's six high school kids, I guess they were in high school or college, it would have been in college. It didn't really ever. It never really said, but they're all scheming and talking. Well, there was a professor. So it must have been college. He was college. So a little later too, the girls are walking in the neighborhood and they notice this house with the words wax work on it. And they're like, we didn't know there was a wax museum, weird location and boom. Somebody appears. One of my favorite actors, by the way, and invites them to the wax work at midnight. He needs six people, no more than six, no more than six. So they're all excited. And they go tell their friends, we're going to this wax work at midnight and they do. And they do. So that's the beginning plot of wax work. We'll talk a little bit more about the movie as we go. We won't spoil, but we will give away some of the basic plot because it's in the trailer. So I'm not going to spoil anything. Exactly. All right. Let's go over the cast then let's do it. First off, we got Zach Gallegon as Mark Lofmoor. And he's the kid from what? Gremlins. Gremlins. Yeah. I think I called him the kid from E.T. when I first told you about the movie. Gremlins. Yeah. Gremlins. Well, he plays the main, I guess you'd say protagonist in this, this movie. Yes. He's the main guy. Nick, we got Deborah Foreman as Sarah Brightman. Michelle Johnson as China Webster. And who did I ever have a crush on her when I was in 1988? Definitely. Yeah, she was pretty hot. Dana Ashbrook as Tony. Like a grant as Jonathan, Eric Brown as James, Claire Kerry as Gemma. And that's like the six friends. That is the six friends. David Warner as David Lincoln, Patrick McCree as Sir Wilford. He was sort of a funny character, I guess. If you want to throw comedy into this eccentric, we'll say. Mihaly, Michu, Mizaros as Hans, and he was a little person. Just say it, Brett. Just say it. He was a little midget. He was a wee man for sure. He was, and he was freaky as shit, too. Are you allowed to say a wee man in this day and age? Yeah, I can't hear or not. I don't know. I don't know. You're supposed to not say midget, but I just did. Well, I said wee man, so. Oh, shit. Let the midget corporation of America sue us. Oh, shit. Jack David Walker as Junior, Charles McCawhan as Inspector Roberts, J. Kenneth Campbell as Marquis Dasade. He was good. Miles O'Keefe is Count Dracula. He was good, too. John Rice, Davies as the werewolf. Jennifer Bassie as Mrs. Loffmore, that was Zach Gallagher's character's mom. She was only in it for one scene. Thank God. She was annoying. Edward Ashley is Professor Sutherland. Rachel Baker is Jenkins, Buckley Norris as the lecturer, Tom McGreevey as Charles, Rick Rossovich as Michael Loffmore, uncredited, and then some of the crew actually had small rows. Yeah, there's a lot of people in this movie, a lot of characters. Yeah, the director, Anthony Hickocks, played the English Prince, and I guess this is his brother James Hickocks. He was the assistant editor, was the werewolf hunter's assistant. Interesting. And the director of photography, Jerry Lively as Sir Wilfred Butler, and that is the cast for waxwork. And David Warner plays the primary villain in this. Didn't I say that? Yeah, I'm just emphasizing. I like him. He's one of my favorite actors. Probably the best actor in the movie, honestly, and taking nothing away from everybody else. They all did a good job, honestly, in my opinion. Now a one reason why they had trouble selling this movie, a monster squad was released the year before, and the effects were very similar, and Vestron felt that that sort of hurt them from getting this movie in the theaters. So I don't know. I mean, the Wolfman effects are very common of the 1988 era, and I thought they did a good job with it, but it does look like your average werewolf that was in any other movie. So I don't know, my monster squad was more of a kid movie. So I don't see how that would have hurt them, but that seemed to be Vestron video one of their primary issues, they claim why they couldn't get this thing in the theaters. I've never seen that either. Well, shit, Brett, where were you at in the '87, '88? In the Army. Well, there you go. You missed a lot of good movies. Well, do monster squad. That's on the list. Yeah, I've seen parts of it, but it's a fun movie. Like I said, it's more of a kid movie, but it's a fun movie. OK. Yeah, we'll definitely have to do it. Yeah. So I'll talk a little bit before we get too far into the music. OK. That is where I think the movie lacks. I think the soundtrack was poor, not executed well, and sort of took away from the movie, and probably gave it that campy, almost comedy-like feel. I didn't like the soundtrack at all. Yeah, it had that pop, even music. It really took away from the movie. If I give it any grades down, the soundtrack will play a big role in that. So. And just like the background music and stuff, too, isn't very noticeable or... No. Well, the soundtrack is not well executed, so that I have to put out front and center. It's just the one of the flaws I would find, then it would definitely be that. And, yes, I am drinking orange vodka tonight. Ooh, you got finishing up your orange? I got a whole bottle of it. You got another one? Nobody comes and drinks here anymore. I got plenty of alcohol now. Jerry don't even come over anymore and have a... No, they cut him off the hard stuff. Oh, shit. Alright, let's go a little bit over the production. Let's do it. Hickocks wrote this screenplay in three days. I remember that part, yes, three days. Initially, there were concerns like you just said, there were concerns about the monster squad. Yeah. Yeah, I don't see how that could have been, but that seemed to be a... Maybe it did. I mean, it was only in the theaters for very limited, so... I don't know why. I don't know. I think it's... Again, horror movies were starting to fall out of flavor as far as theatrical releases around the late '80s. I mean, and they would end up dying almost until Scream came out, you know, in the '90s. Exactly. Bob Keene was brought in to handle the visual effects and absolutely fucking phenomenal visual effects. Yep. Great monsters, for sure. Definitely great monsters. Great blood. Yep. All practical. I didn't have computers then. Yep. Yeah, and it still holds up to this day, in my opinion, well. Couple of good head-blowing's off and shit. Yeah. We had the guy that the vampires were feeding off of his leg. I thought that was cool as shit. Eighteen most evil beings are used in this film. They are indeed. That is a true statement. They are the Marquis Desate, a werewolf, Count Dracula, Frankenstein, Gallum, Phantom of the Opera, the Mummy, George Romero-style zombies, the zombies were really good. They were good, and it looked very Romero-like. Jack the Ripper, the Invisible Man, but I didn't see him, I wonder why. He has a scene as far as I'm in the wax museum, but he don't play a role in the movie. And there's a voodoo priest, a witch, a snake man, and that snake man reminded me, what was that dreamscape, number dreamscape? I do remember dreamscape. Oh, the snake and that's what that reminded me of. Yeah. There was an old de Rosemary's baby. There's an Axmer, an Alien, a giant talking venous flytrap, and that's a fly back to Little Shop of Horrors. Yeah, and there's actually in the scene, you can't really barely hear it, but it says feed me. A lot of nods, good movies in this. And last but not least, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Dude, I don't know if I buy more evil than all them. And that Gollum is a Frankenstein, I don't think they could use the word Frankenstein for some damn reason. Well they had Frankenstein on the list, it's just you already said it, I didn't want to re-say it. Yeah, but a Gollum is a Frankenstein. I always thought that was weird, they list the Gollum and a Frankenstein. So I don't know, Gollum's on a Jewish folklore. Who knows? Whatever it is, damn it, those people beans right there, the most evil beans except for things they couldn't use like Pinhead, I guess. Rotten Tomatoes gives us an approval rating of 60% based on 10 reviews. Now, in a rating average of 4.6 out of 10, TV Guide gave it five stars or no, one out of five stars. Yeah, that's more like it for TV Guide. Are they business anymore? No, I don't think so, man. I hope not. Fuck TV Guide. We were too poor to get the TV Guide. Sure. Some of the younger people don't even know what TV Guide is. No, looking up, we had to, I had to look up at the newspaper, the old man would get the newspaper and they had the TV listings for everything. We had a Sunday TV Guide that came with the Star telegram, and my dad would grab me and say, "Don't nobody touch this damn thing." He would kidnap the TV Guide. We got Parade magazine with our news. We got Parade. I remember when I got old enough, I started buying myself my own Sunday paper so I could get the coupons and the TV Guide, because my dad would not give that TV Guide up. You still get the Star telegram delivered? I did not. I get it on the internet now. It's all online probably. Yeah, I haven't had a newspaper thrown in a while. I don't think nobody does. It's all online now. Yeah, newspapers are about a thing of the past, man. The Star telegram does well online, actually. Yeah. I think all of them do for local. Actually, the Star telegram gives more news than anything I know of. So here's an endorsement of the Star telegram. You should give me a free news sponsorship. I'm promoting the Foot Worth Star telegram on our podcast. So give me free shit. Were you a paper boy, Carl? Yeah. Were you really? No. I thought you said, "Well, what you're saying, you're drunk." Paper boy. Were you a paper boy? No, I was not a fucking paper boy. I read the newspaper when I was like two or three years old. I used to clip out stuff out of it. I was told, "Oh, that's funny." I had a buddy of mine, his whole family. They were like the paper boys forever in our neighborhood. And it was funny they would get up early like four o'clock in the morning and put all them inserts and shitting them papers and then right around on their bike delivering papers, man. Nobody delivered papers on bikers when I was a kid. It was all by car. This was the '70s. Well, let's get back to the movie. I'm going to get to the selfie here. There's actually a comic adaptation of this film published by Blackthorne Publishing in November of 1988. One is a black and white one shot and one has wax work 3D special number one. Pretty cool, man. Yeah, let's see here. I guess we can go over some trivia. Now let's go over the disc, why don't we? All right, go over the disc. So Vestron Video has had many owners over the years, but now they reside with my good friends at Lionsgate. And Lionsgate started putting out a lot of the movies they own, actually under the Vestron Video label. Oh, wow. Yeah, so they haven't done it in a while. So we have never had wax work or wax work 2 on Blu-ray before. We only had the crappy DVDs. So they decided to go ahead and give us both in one package, which is pretty cool. We got the wax work here on the front. If you open it up on the inside, you got the wax work 2 right there. So hard to do this, it's one of those flipper disc. And I've had this for a while and I've only watched it like once. Yeah, this is the unrated version of wax work. There was a edited version that came out with the videotape. And I'm going to tell you what, this thing looks great on Blu-ray. That was one of my worries, how they were going to clean it up. It does look good. Looks very good. Now the interesting thing about this, there's a lot of classic, you know, there was like a feature from back in the 80s. But Lionsgate went in and did like a 3 hour thing on wax work 1 and 2. And it's on this disc and it's really amazing. Unfortunately, I hadn't watched the whole 3 hours of it. But very strong disc, there's also 2 audio commentaries. One of them is actually an isolated score, which is sort of weird since the score is not very good. And then we have the director doing that lately with that. Yeah. So lots of stuff on the Blu-ray including wax work 2, which is not a very good movie. It was a pretty poor follow up. But nevertheless, Lionsgate hid it out of the park with this. They even give us a cover. It's got both movies on it. So great job Lionsgate under the Vestron video. It's kind of a good flashback for us 80s kids that used to rent our Vestron movies. So I give the Blu-ray top ratings, man, it's they're not the screen factory, but Lionsgate can kick ass when they want to and they choose to. And they did with this release. And I just need to go back and watch the whole 3-hour documentary and had a lot in it that I didn't already know and not a lot in it that you won't be able to cover. So is wax work too and again? It's a pretty weak movie. It's got the same, what's his name, Zach Gilligan or whatever the fuck his name? He's in it, but that's the only person that returns. What's his name? Zach Gilligan. That's close. So yeah, definitely strong, the Blu-ray release finally. And it's still in print. So there you go. Get both movies for one price and a lot of good special features. Cool. All right, I guess now we'll go into some trivia and it is on to be if you're cheap. It's on prime too, that's where I watch it. So I don't have to watch the commercials. Yeah. All right, there were some characters that were supposed to be displayed in the wax work, wax work, but they were left out of the film for legal reasons. Yeah, I remember that Jason Voorhees was supposed to be in it. The five freaky children in the 1960 version of Village of the Damned and the Thing from 1982, but got cut, got cut. Yeah, I'm sure paramount when going to use Jason and John Carpenter probably wanted a lot of money for him to use the Thing, right? So all right, let's see here. The human flesh being eaten at the vampire dinner scene is actually made of rhubarb, watermelon and strawberries all mashed together. Yeah, that was pretty gross though. Yep. Looked like some liver and stuff being eaten there. Well, let's see. Kane Hodder did stunt work for this movie. He also has an uncredited role in the film as the Frankenstein's monster. I think I'm also confused as the golem. The Galligan hate, what? I said anything Kane Hodder does is good. We know that. Yeah. Galligan hated that Hickox made him tuck his shirt in for the scene where the character leads the police into the wax museum. He recalls catching the movie on USA's up all night once and a hearing host Gilbert Godfrey say we'll be right back with wax work starring Zach Galligan after 40 cheeseburgers. That's funny Gilbert. I'm Miss Gilbert and he's funny as shit. Let's see, the house of the opening scene was also used in the movie Willard from 1971 and Witchboard 1986. Hey, we've covered Witchboard. Yes, we did. Just like a year ago. It was a year ago I think. I just put it out again on my memories. I think that's the only reason I remember that we did Witchboard because of that. So thanks for the reminder. But the house has since been retired as a filming location. Oh, man. Bob King spent 18 hours a day for eight weeks working on the monsters in the film. He did a great fucking job, dude. He certainly did, certainly did. The house uses the wax works exterior is still there but the owner is growing a big hedge around it to make it less visible and discourage wax work fans from looking for photo ops. Yeah, I'd go take a photo there. Let's see, Hickok's father had always told him never to wait to shoot the end of your film last because he will usually run out of money or time. It happened here and his four days of planned time hopping action had to be minimized to a single day. So we had to do a pub fight. They did a good pub fight. Everybody dies, basically. That's what it seemed like. Again, I think that's what people think of it as a comedy because of that ending especially but I thought it was fucking phenomenal. Yeah, there's just so many people it's hard to keep track of what the fuck going on though. If anything, it's dark humor that I just, you know, I remember it's a price that a lot of dark humor horror movies in his day and I like that. This was Hickok's first feature but he was never nervous during production until the completion bond people arrived saying that they were out of money and needed to wrap it up. The result was a heavily in battle so he got told to shutter the fuck down. It does seem sort of rushed at the end but I never bothered me. The vampire sequence was originally before the werewolf one but they swapped them as the latter serves as a better introduction into the workings of the film's concept. Yes. And let's go over the film's concept just a bit and again this is not a spoiler because it's in the trailers. So in this world, you go, you can enter the actual wax work. You go into an alternate reality where the monsters are real and you can be killed and you become part of the wax work and that's part of the plot of the film. They need all of the monsters to have a victim and then they're all going to come alive for real. So it's almost becomes an anthology film in that way because like you said you had the werewolf scene, the absolute phenomenal vampire scene. That's one of the coolest vampires ever done. So I view it as an anthology at that point. So very brilliant. He did such a good job with this damn thing but I'm glad they put the werewolf scene first. It made a lot more sense in the end. I think it would have almost ruined the movie if they would have wasted the vampire scene for first. So that's my take. Well, I have to agree with you there. Good. During the scene of the basement of the vampires mansion crew on the set said that it was the bloodiest thing ever put to the screen. But about half of it was cut out by the motion picture association of America. Of course it was. So now it's all on the Blu-Ray is unrated already went over that. Let's see here Karen Schafer who was the lady zombie in the graveyard sequence was actually the secretary of executive producer and fellow zombie Dan Ireland. Everybody got to play in this movie. Oh, let's see here. Oh and the audio I don't know if you heard this in the audio commentary and then he hiccocks and stars at Galligan hiccock revealed that due to the actors limited availability in his scheduled David Warner who plays the waxwork owner had to film all the scenes for the movie in two days he was in a lot of the movie too. So yeah, he was. That's a lot of scenes for two days for sure. What about the weed? Little German guy. I don't know. I guess I might get that guy that guy freaked you out didn't he yeah he was creepy as shit man. He was sort of funny too. The way flipped his hair and shit. I could probably do that as long as my hair is thin. I'm not messing with it. I finally got it the word ain't curling. At about the one hour and eight minute mark, Patrick Tantalo said the zombie circuit sequence was filmed in one night in Griffith Park which if you're from if you're no Los Angeles that's where the observatory is and Los Angeles zoos there as they only had one night to film the scene where the severed zombie hand grabs Mark Zach Galligan on the wrist was filmed in reverse. Interesting. Yeah. I'm not going to say nothing about the hand no sort of a nod I guess. Adams family or whatever you know maybe a little bit thing maybe thing yeah well then evil did to it have a hand here soon to oh yeah all these movies came out at the same time basically same year Deborah Foreman and Anthony Hickocks were dating during the making of this movie. They had what Hickock describes as a messy breakup prior to filming oh no so she declined her offer to reprise her role in waxwork to lost in time that makes sense then yeah makes sense I was wondering why she wouldn't end that in the original shooting script the cage cobra man circus freak was supposed to be a wear beast and the man in the iron mask was supposed to be one of the exhibits I think it was better at the coat the cobra man was cool I thought yeah Michael go Sir Christopher Lee Peter Cushing and Donald Pleasants were all possible for the cameo role of Sir Wilfred no one I could see pull out offer to be Vincent Price. Yeah he would have did a good job too but is he still alive in 88 I think he was still alive in 88 like we said the movie producers were turned down by every studio they approached including Vestron with the company's head read the script he reversed the decision and made it a Vestron production so good for him evidently he liked it Vestron was sort of the sometime early good sometimes it's good to go straight to the top it is yeah definitely agree this was the final acting project of Edward Ashley before his death on May 5th 2000 so he didn't do that for a while oh the me too mezzarose who plays the Butler Hans is also featured on the album cover for the doors strange days that's an interesting note right before hands is fed to the invasion of the body snatchers pod it says feed me as a nod to Audrey the man eating plant from Little Shop of Horrors hey I called it yep Jackass Bob King the films make up guy for a howling like werewolf I didn't think it was really looked like the howling it looked like all the werewolves that they did in the yeah like combined together the good werewolf yeah even the one where the guy turned and he was just partially aware partial werewolf yeah it did a good job on that too the last dark scene cuts to an upbeat song of the 60s just like an American werewolf in London from 1982 Galligan had the most trouble with the scene where he pretends to be sick in order to get Sarah out of her class I still think I'm pretty bad at it he didn't do he could tell that was fake for sure the guy who gets ripped in half by the werewolf was played by director Hickok's brother well he got ripped for sure or two that was good good effects yep like we said the werewolf exteriors were shot in Griffith Park Los Angeles the the Teamsters Union occasionally heckled the production by shining mirrors in the actors faces as a protest for the film being a non-union production now heck with him oh let's see here about it here at 46 minutes the blue dress glimpse behind Galligan at the police station is a nod to the movie crimes of passion wow and Zach Galen's character name was Mark Lofnore was chosen because it sounded rich and that's about all the trivia I got so that's a lie that's a good good little numbers there for stuff numbers I don't even know what I'm talking about now you did a good job is what I'm trying to say well thank you thank you you got anything else you want to talk about or are you gonna go straight to now I think you know um like I said I gave away that is sort of an anthology almost because they go to different worlds and I like that Michelle Johnson girl I was watching that last night I forgot how how pretty she was um I guess we're going to our reviews you want me to go first yeah go ahead go ahead yeah like I said this was one of my favorite movies 1988 that's when I was watching a lot of horror movies that was my prime and this was one of my favorites always stayed on my radar you know video tape DVD to finally get in this Blu-ray always enjoyed it used to brag on it all the time telling people watch waxwork it's worth it so 2024 how do I feel about it I feel exactly the same way I still love this movie like I said that soundtrack is a little hokey but other than that I love this movie just as much as I did in 1988 it's a guilty pleasure movie for me I can't find much wrong with the movie excuse me except for that kind of whack soundtrack it's unique it's different it has all the cool monsters the actors are great in it and the special effects are phenomenal so I love waxwork to this day when am I going to rate this thing get this 4.5 probably taking that five half off for that soundtrack huh that's the only thing I can find I don't like on this movies that soundtrack love the movie to death do I recommend this movie hell yeah I recommend it I think you need to buy this Blu-ray right now everybody give lines get some love and I'm gonna watch waxworks to again here soon just to see if it's as bad as I remember it disappointing not bad let's put it that way it's hard to follow up a movie like waxwork the sequel can never be as good in this case and it wasn't and like he said they changed the girl out but now I know why because the director and her were more than and they weren't boning the more so she left that's my that's what I give it 4.5 highly recommend still one of my favorite movies it's pie in my top 10 really okay you know what it reminds me of right night in a way yeah I can see that it's got the same quirky kind of black comedy if you want to call it that the frite night had yeah kind of bubbly heroes you know dumb goofy but still heroes yeah I kind of put this with frite night a lot very similar movies in my opinion both then really well okay well yeah now you're I don't believe I'd never seen this before I don't believe you had either I started watching I was like I have never seen this before and like I said I was in the army when this came out well I was actually just getting out of the army but I didn't have time to sit around and watch a horror movie remember I was 88 I was in high school still so yeah so uh started out I was like what the fuck what the fuck is this why this guy's head burning in the I know that part is that I would give it some points off just for the beginning because it doesn't really explain very well one wasn't that the class his grandfather was his grandfather or his father his grandfather I believe okay but it don't make a lot of sense wouldn't he like the head of that group though of the guild yeah the monster hunter guild yeah yeah so yeah it doesn't explain it well in the movie though that that part the beginning is not very good exactly like what monster kill them or who kill them or what you know so yeah but it actually got better as it went along it does get better yes and the special effects man I was really surprised for 1988 you know they're great man high quality special effects for sure some of the best for that time frame exactly every you know rivals some nikatero stuff you know it was back then for sure so like you said the score wasn't very memorable at all except that hurt the movie if anything the poppy 80s types music bubblegum stuff that it was 1988 though to give it give them a little bit of a devil there do yeah so I'm not a big fan of that so all around it was a good movie I'd actually enjoyed it being the first time I actually watched it twice I watched it a second time you go back to see if I could see anything that I missed in the first the first time I watched it you pie missed a lot there's a lot in this movie yeah I noticed more of the detail of the creatures I look for that the second time to and just just in that I'm gonna give it a four yay I didn't think you'd give it that high yeah the way you were talking on I don't know if I'll ever watch it again but it was good maybe like on a rainy Saturday 5 years from now you know one of them type vampire scene in that movie is one of my favorite vampire scenes of any movie there was I would kind of I could almost have made a whole if I was doing I could have made a whole movie around that so different unique yep what's it had the girl I like in it so there you go oh look her up on Facebook see if she's on Facebook she's probably only 60 what you gonna what for that actually I'm bringing him out to give you the stare down now you don't like that look at bad bunnies mad at you he's giving you the eye Brett oh the red the red bunny I bad bunny sits on my drinking table yeah I'm fucked now you are fucked he gave you the evil eye I'm a kidney stones gonna act up again oh all right well you got anything else you want to add or that is it all right movie enjoyed it this week a whole lot better than the dummy or whatever the hell we watched last week the dummy know that what is it called magic oh that's what dummy is the twilight zone episode that's what anyway that's what scarlet calls me is the dummy now I sent that made me snort I sent that video to Juliet and she watches it all the time and calls me a dummy now so oh Lord thanks miss scarlet well you tell Juliet that bad bunny will come after her if she ain't nice I think he's the new mascot of the evil never dies podcast YouTube show here she's got she's got an iPad and she's got the data on it so I can send her messages and videos and stuff and yeah I send her a message every morning before work and just say whatever what are you having for breakfast or whatever you know that's pretty cool so she gets a kick out of them she was playing them all in a row the other day so alright everybody that's all we got for wax work from 1988 I don't remember what three weeks and we're gonna be at the convention
