The Veil of Isis, a Cthulhu by Gaslight, Golden Dawn actual play, with David Larkins as the keeper of arcane lore. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I know. >> Indeed. >> David does. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Totally intrusive. >> Totally intrusive. >> How dare you? >> You know what to do with it. >> Cool. >> Is it going? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. >> It better be. Or else a plan will fall through. >> Okay. So it's ugly. >> It's gone. >> It's gone. >> It's gone. >> Fire is going. >> It was going. >> It's good to go. >> Absolutely. >> All right. >> You never got your motto, but that's okay. >> That's all right. >> Okay. >> There we go. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> It'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> It'll show itself. >> I'm sure it'll show itself. >> Oh, yeah, Crowley, he's gonna show up in the future. >> Yes, it is September 23, 1893. The autumnal equinox. And so you have all gathered at Mark Mason-Paul in London for the biannual equinox festival of the Isis Urania temple. So it's a slightly ominous day, apparently, according to the music. No, it's actually a mild fall day. It's really auspicious for the ceremony. And pretty much the entire temple membership has turned out. So it's sort of this twice a year opportunity to kind of, you know, move among the various members of the temple. >> Talk, touch base, catch up. >> Never mind. >> I do. >> You know who it is. I forget. >> I didn't tell you because I haven't joined yet. >> Well, let's start, but I have an ally. No, an ally, I don't know who it is. I'm sorry, you guys. I don't know who my ally is. I know who my ally is. I do. I have an ally saying here. I know that I have one ally who has yet to be revealed, but I don't know who it is. >> Okay. Check your email. >> I will. >> It's in there. That's not where. >> Excellent. Well, none of your nemesis are going to try anything on this particular day. >> Oh, okay. I'm really excited. >> Oh, I have an nemesis. >> Well, that would be on my mind. Like, are they going to be there? You know, are they going to start giving me shit for something? >> Dude, you are not my nemesis. [ Laughter ] >> All right. >> So, no, yeah. I mean, pretty much the whole, the whole temple membership has turned out. And sort of leading the ceremony is going to be William Westcott. Now, this has been living in Paris for the last couple of years. So, you know, they're more of a correspondence kind of based relationship at this point. And of course, France is far is there. >> Mm-hmm. >> And she's actually -- >> Florence. >> Florence, excuse me. She's actually going to be participating in the, you know, leading the ceremony. >> Right. So Florence is your -- >> Yep. >> -- connection, okay. All right. Yeah, I rolled a -- basically, you know, she only took one contact, so it's a 50/50 chance of being an ally or enemy. So I'm like, all right, one to 50 will be an ally. I rolled a zero one. So I'm like, all right, you guys are pretty strong allies. >> Mm-hmm. Okay. >> Bigger. >> All right. >> So, yeah, you've all shown up at Mark Mason's Hall, which is, you know, just this sort of typically London edifice, four-story building with a large meeting hall, basically. There's nothing terribly, you know, fancy or, you know, occult about it. >> Okay. >> The hall is large enough to contain the 70 or so members currently in the temple. And the chairs have been set out on all four sides of the hall, and you are all seated according to your ranks. >> Oh, okay. >> So let's be here. We didn't have any neophytes, right? >> Uh-uh. I'm in the -- am I in the, like, the coat closet? [ Laughter ] >> What the hell is playing? >> Yeah. >> You're in the utility room. >> Exactly. [ Laughter ] See. >> Yeah. It's hot, dear. >> We had a couple of practicai, though, right? >> Yes. >> Okay. So the practicai are going to be seated on the west side of the room, and then the zeletores and the neophytes are on the north side of the room. >> Okay. >> Philosopher on the south. Intermembers sit on the east side. >> How about the zeletors? Where do you sit? North side? >> You're on the north. >> North. >> North. What's the neophyte? >> Are you a zeletor? >> I am a zeletor. >> What? >> Mm-hmm. >> So you're all sort of sprinkled amongst two sides of the room? >> But we're seated. >> Mm-hmm. >> And it's about to begin. >> Yes. You've all filed in. You're all in your robes. >> Oh, no. >> You're standing on your robes. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. [ Laughter ] >> It was like with some animal sacrifices. >> I know. [ Laughter ] >> With chanting. [ Laughter ] This is England. There will be children segment. >> Yeah. [ Laughter ] For getting into 70s. >> For getting into 70s. >> For getting into 70s. >> Yeah. >> For getting into 70s. >> For getting into 70s. >> Me too. >> Well, I think I'm sitting behind you. >> All right. >> All right. >> All right. Is my hat annoying you? >> No. [ Laughter ] >> You're having your hat with the gown. >> Yep. [ Laughter ] >> No, I think I'm sitting behind you. >> All right. >> Nice one to make sure. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah. So on the east side of the room are the cheats of the order. >> Mm-hmm. >> And they're actually sitting on a raised dais. >> Mm-hmm. >> And let's see here. Oh, you know, they have various titles like the Hierophants and the Kerux and so forth. But they're sort of like, these are order titles that sort of pass amongst various members of the inner order. So this particular ceremony, Florence Bars, is actually the Hierophant. >> Mm-hmm. >> So she comes in with a staff kind of on the dais and sort of knocks the staff on the dais and that sort of signals the quiet. And then she announces fraud trays and sororays of all grades of the Golden Dawn and the Outer. Let us celebrate the festival of the Vernal Equinox. And so you all rise because you've all done this before. >> Mm-hmm. >> And then she knocks again. She says, "Fraud her Kerux, proclaim the Equinox, and announce that the password is abrogated." You know, the Kerux passes to the northeast and raises his wand. And Facing West says, "In the name of the Lord of the universe and by command of the very honored Hierophant, I proclaim that the Vernal Equinox is here and that the password is abrogated." He then returns to his place and you stand facing towards the dais and follow the officers and lifting signs towards it. Let us consecrate according to the ancient custom, the return of the Equinox. And it sort of goes on like this. So it goes on for about a half hour, various sort of, you know, okay, you go over here and you do this sign this way and so forth. You know, just very ceremonial thing, you know. And then at that point, all the outer order members are asked to leave with the music. >> Yeah. It's like so not you see running through the music because I'm just getting really, like, ten. >> We did the Miskatonic University thing with the jazz background. >> We did. But that felt really kind of like-- >> This is like they're making a sign. >> Yeah. >> Like Mongolian thritts, you know. >> We're all chanting together. >> You know. >> Well, the theory, there is some, like, call and response things, you know, where someone invokes something. >> Right. >> And, you know. >> Yeah, I'm sure we're singing. >> You do, actually. >> Because, no, it's sort of this mix. It's this esoteric mix. There's some Christian spirituality and there's, like, Eastern mysticism and all this kind of mixed stuff together, you know. >> No, no, no. >> So after about a half hour-- >> Damn right, after about a half hour, the outer order members are asked to leave, so you all stand and are filed out into the ant chamber. >> For teen cookies? >> Yes. No, you just have to wait around. >> Oh, okay. >> Because for about 20 minutes, the inner order goes through their thing and they appoint the new Hierophant and all the new titles. It's still a season. They go coast from that sort of thing. >> Okay. >> And then you're called back in to sort of just wrap it all up. And the new password for the next six months is vitae. So that's something you'll need whenever you're wanting to access order-related stuff. >> Keep up. >> And at that point, yeah, it's all brought to a close by the new Hierophant, who you just know by his motto. (speaks in foreign language) >> Or you can all give me half no roles if you actually know who he is. >> Half? >> Mm-hmm. >> What? >> So, on your character sheet there, you've got a no role next to your education. >> Mm-hmm. >> Okay. >> It's a role. >> Okay. >> And so you're going to want to roll under half of that. >> You'll roll the two greens. >> I succeeded. >> Um, I did not succeed. >> You made this under 50. >> Okay. >> Is that under half? >> That is under half? >> Mm-hmm. >> I would have made it. I don't know. >> Or no. Your nose normally 50? >> Yeah. >> Oh, I think it's under 25. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. So I will just scroll the name of the person here. >> Oh. >> Pass that over. There will be no living with me now. (laughter) You can sit on that line. >> Oh, no. >> Create a little tonic bomb. >> Nice. >> Okay. All righty. >> The DDI. >> The DDI. And so he just sort of brings it all home. He's got sort of a genteel Irish accent. >> Uh-huh. >> Yeah, I wonder if you could. >> I wish you would. >> Yeah, I'm recording. >> He's actually pretty good. >> Yeah. >> I bet he is. >> No, it'll probably come out anyway. >> Okay. >> So, and then everything kind of breaks up. >> Mm-hmm. >> And then there's just sort of the general milling about afterwards that you always get. >> Okay. >> The new resources. >> General milling. >> General milling. So, at this point, Florence are approaching. >> Excellent. >> Yes. And so, you know, it can't stay long, but I'd like to meet with you tomorrow. >> Okay. >> Nice and business for the order that I think you would be well placed to attend to. >> Okay, lovely Florence. What time would you like me to pick on? >> 11 o'clock. >> 11 a.m.? >> Yes. >> Wonderful. >> Mm-hmm. >> Oh, it's good to see you. You're not the here event anymore, huh? >> It happens. >> I'm the... >> They don't go fast now. >> Ooh! Okay, then. >> All right. >> I don't know what that is anymore. [laughter] >> All right. Okay, good. >> So, yeah. >> So, lovely. >> And, and then now, you know, just so you know. >> Everyone's free to go their own way. >> Okay. >> What's Florence doing? >> She's heading out with this DEDI character, right? >> Okay. >> Oh. >> Yeah. I'll announce loudly that I'd love to stay, but I have a patient who will die if they don't see me in the morning. >> Oh, my God. >> Wow. [laughter] >> That's very important. >> Hey! >> Very important. >> A couple people throw knots on. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> Where could you do this? [laughter] >> He gives and gives and gives. >> Good question. >> I don't know. He's a good doctor. All right. So, I'm just going to... >> This is a Saturday, by the way. >> Okay. >> Oh, that's good enough. >> So, I'm just... I'm just observing everything. >> Like, you know... >> Like, you know... [laughter] >> No, in my mind. >> Yeah. >> And just trying to see, you know, who's talking to who. >> Mm-hmm. >> No one really talks to me, I guess. I don't have any friends, really. >> Yeah, it's your ally. I haven't joined the order yet. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, so anyway, I'm just observing everyone and just seeing, like, who's talking to who. >> Mm-hmm. >> Drinking my tea. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yep. >> Yep. >> All right. >> What are you doing, Ted? >> You know, I think that I probably made a few polite pillows and goodbyes and probably slipped out pretty quickly and quietly. >> Sure, okay. >> Yeah. >> Some other social obligations, probably other plans. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, Saturday afternoon. >> Yeah, like, yeah, politely. >> Let me use my skull. >> That's right. >> Yeah, this is mostly just a, almost like routine kind of thing for the order. >> Yeah. >> You know, it's like, you know, we've got to get together in every equinox. >> Yeah. >> Do a thing. >> Do it up. >> Oh, sir's acquainted. >> Mm-hmm. >> Sure. >> You know, matters of record keeping so far. >> Administrative. >> Mm-hmm. >> Sort of things. So, okay, so the next morning. >> Yes. >> Right. >> At Florence's flat. >> So as you're ringing the- >> Is it really good to be this one? >> Because you're ominously ringing the bell. The door actually opens like the same instant. >> Ah, oh. >> And a gentleman is sort of coming out and putting his hat on. >> Okay. >> And he sees you and doffs has had it. >> All right. >> Excuse me, man. Heads by. >> Who is it? >> No. >> Mm-hmm. >> And I fail. >> Okay. >> You don't? >> It's new. [ Laughter ] >> All right. >> Right. >> And- >> I'm going to try and- I'm going to go in as he goes out. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yes. >> And Florence is, you know, downstairs made. >> Mm-hmm. >> Clara. >> Okay. >> Clara. >> All right. And, you know, she knows you. >> Sure. >> Oh, yeah. Just through to the parlor, man. >> And Florence is in there. She's sort of tidying up, but, you know, smiles. >> What's she tidying? >> Oh, just a couple of tea cups. >> All right. >> Okay. >> She's taking it. She's doing appointments today, obviously. >> Yeah. >> Mm-hmm. >> There's a- >> You gotta get a handle on your mixed holograph in the room. >> It's a little bit swollen. >> Yeah, apparently. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I don't remember putting that on the mix. >> Are you serious? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> She must be really happy to see you. >> Yeah. >> She must be really happy to see you. >> Yeah. [ Laughter ] >> It's gonna be me out, really. >> All right. Good. Perfect. >> Okay. >> Yeah, all right. >> Wonderful. >> Florence, lovely. Lovely to see you as always. >> So she pours you a fresh cup. >> Right. >> And has a seat. >> Okay. >> You see her tarot deck is out. >> Okay. >> Oh. >> So, you know, shall we do a reading? >> Let's. >> All right. >> Let's do a reading. >> Make her a fancy roller. >> This is great. >> Yeah. >> You got a photograph going in the back. >> Yeah. >> Okay. 37, which is way good. >> Okay. You got it? >> Yep. >> Excellent. Excellent. So, you know, you just do sort of a standard spread. >> Cut to cross. >> There you go. >> You're getting cut to cross. >> Probably. >> Yeah. And let's see here. In the two most significant spots of the reading, you get the magician upright. >> Upright. >> Mm-hmm. And the ace of swords ill dignified. >> Oh. >> So. >> So. >> Hm. >> Charlotte's in approaches. >> Perhaps. >> Perhaps. [ Laughter ] >> Yeah, so Florence is kind of, you know, evaluating as well. >> Mm-hmm. >> Well, you know, the magus is good. I mean, that's wisdom and originality, self-confidence. But I don't like that ill dignified ace of swords there. That's debacle disaster. >> Mm-hmm. >> Strange you should mention a charlatan, though. The order has been contacted by one Lord Thomas Pilgrim. He wishes to join the order. But most unusually, he is asked to be immediately promoted to the inner order. And on the basis of his claims that he has access to unusual cult knowledge. >> Is that so? >> It is indeed. >> Huh. What field of a cult knowledge is he giving you any clue as to what-- >> Yeah. >> Well, everyone thinks they know all about it, right? >> Yeah, but he seems-- Well, I heard the name. I heard the Peltrae name. I know his grandfather, also named Thomas. >> Really? >> Was somewhat known 17 years ago or so for his occult. >> Oh! >> Studies. >> Oh. >> Hm. >> But he met a premature end. >> Oh. >> Hm. >> So, at any rate, my associate DEDI has asked me to find someone in the order who could recommend some people to help with this investigation. >> So, you would propose that I investigate Lord Thomas Pilgrim? >> I propose that yes, you and anyone else you feel would be suitable. >> Look into the character of this fellow? >> Indeed. >> Interesting. >> He wants to arrange a meeting at his manner in latent to supposedly show this collection. >> Well, that sounds fascinating. >> Mm-hmm. >> Wonderful. >> Yes, I thought you did. >> Yeah. >> Enjoy the opportunity. >> Wonderful. >> Okay. Who shall I choose? >> Well, I know it's like a bit of cat members. >> That doctor gives me the creeks. >> Not to mention the kind of suspicious guy from Scotland Yard. >> Borderline autistic. >> Just like this quiet fellow. >> It doesn't seem to read human emotion too. [ Laughter ] >> All right. >> At any rate, the EDI wishes to meet with you and whoever you should choose. >> Ooh! >> At Constantine's on Tuesday. >> Was EDI, was he leaving? >> No. >> That was not TV. >> That was not TV. That was a clever person. >> Okay. At Constantine's. >> At Constantine's on Tuesday. >> On Tuesday. >> What's Constantine's? >> Right. >> At Constantine's. >> Oh. >> A rather Tony restaurant. >> Oh. >> Okay. >> All right. >> All right. >> One. Okay. Thank you. >> Mm-hmm. >> And we'll do. >> Very well. And so, you know, if there's anything else to check out about you, you know, past the time, she's just not buried, you know. >> No. >> Get you out of the house. >> We have much to discuss by way of zealotary things. >> Yes, I mean, as she's in the inner order, you constantly get the idea, get the feeling that she's not putting all the cards on the table. >> No. >> She's holding a lot back. >> Mm-hmm. >> So, you get the feeling once you get to the inner order, that's when it really starts to pop. >> It starts to get real. >> Yeah. Okay. >> So, what's the order of the order? Like, are you the neophytes, these elders, right? >> Mm-hmm. >> The practicus is philosophized. >> Okay, so philosophized, are they in the inner? >> No. >> Okay, philosophized. >> After philosophized. >> Portal. >> Portal. >> Yes. >> And then after portal, that's when you go to inner order. >> Sure. >> Yeah. So, this Lord Thomas Pelgrine wants to go direct into the inner order. Quite a bold claim. >> Yes. >> Exactly. >> If anyone should do that, that should be... [laughter] >> Damn it. >> I see I have some competition. [laughter] >> Yes. >> Okay, so, I'll go back home. I don't know. I'll hit the book. Should I hit the book or the roster of the order folks and start calling? >> Well, there's no official list, so it's whatever is in your mind. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. There was someone sitting behind you. [laughter] >> With a cracking mustache. >> Mm-hmm. >> Well, I'm not a pop, but I do maintain my personal grooming. >> Big, and I thought, I was thinking like an inspector's... >> Yeah, no, no. >> It's like a little walrus mustache on the central pivot. >> It's a respectable... [laughter] >> On a pivot? >> Yeah. >> No, it's a respectable spin. >> Yeah, exactly. [laughter] >> Oh. [laughter] >> No, it's a respectable mustache. But I'm not, like I said, I'm not a dandy or a pop, but I take care of my personal grooming. >> Mm-hmm. [laughter] >> What room do you say? >> Her room. >> Her room. >> Much her room thing will go on. >> First thing I need to go around, I'm sure. [laughter] >> Okay, so I'll contact Inspector Pike. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> And... >> I'll do a run-up on him. >> I'll check him to the pertinent... >> Yes. >> You'll run his name. >> I'll run his name too. [laughter] >> Now what's going on right now at the yacht is that two years ago, the Scotland Yard moved from actual Scotland Yard, you know, the place that was called Scotland Yard, and it's given to you that name, to New Scotland Yard, and so things are on this. So, boxes filing, you know, index marks, everything out, you're behind. It's two years later, you're still... >> Still a mess. >> There's still whole rooms full of boxes that nobody's gone through. >> It's that bad with a mess. >> It's that bad. >> It's that bad. [laughter] [laughter] >> It just breaks your heart. >> It just sort of. It's pretty hopeless. >> It's not neat. It's not organized. >> One last thing. >> Yes. >> As you're on your way out. >> Yes, by the way. >> Florence asks, "Of course I know I can trust you and your associates to keep this in the strictest confidence, even within the order." >> Okay. >> Could you believe you choose? >> This is our big shot, Pike. We're going to make this work. >> All right. >> We want to make it all the way up to the portal. We're going to do all this. >> All right. >> So, there are, well, postal deliveries a day, except on Sundays when they're fine. So, you could do all this through correspondence if you wanted to. Just send out letters. >> Well, I have a plan. >> Or you could go around. >> I'm going to -- well, I have this much of a plan. >> Okay. >> This is the plan. >> I'm walking back to my dwelling, and I stop into your shop. >> Oh. >> Because aren't you in a tree? >> I am. >> Yes. And so, I see this little Padma by appointment only. [laughter] >> Can I harass you? >> Yes. >> Fine. >> I don't want to say I probably just finished my late breakfast and just got into the shop. So, I might be still getting myself settled. >> Perfect. >> I don't know. I'm getting buzzed right away. >> Aww. >> On a Sunday. >> It was the important. >> But, of course, I'm going to put on my best face and answer the door. >> Hey. >> How am I happy? >> Well, hello, Padma. >> Do you recognize me from last night's to two? >> You know, I think I saw your face, but there were so many. >> That's right. >> I wasn't seated there. >> That's right. [laughter] >> Well, I have received an interesting assignment from no less than Florence Far. And I was wondering if you'd be interested. We are to investigate a possible new member under the strictest of confidence. >> That's right. >> Yes. >> I live it. I'm intrigued. >> Good. >> Good. I'm glad you are. >> I look into the affairs of Lord Thomas Pilgrane and a cult scholar from Leighton. Oh, we also have to meet. Yeah. We're meeting Diddy on Tuesday at Constantine's. So, Tuesday's clear. >> Oh, yes. Well, I'm sure I can get my manic constant. He used to get us an actual table. >> Excellent. [laughter] >> All right. And if you know anyone else who could help us, that would be tremendous. >> Hold on. I have to check my schedule and make sure Constantine's on Tuesday. [sighs] I'm just bothering. Is there a meeting? >> We are meeting, uh, Diddy. Yeah. >> Diddy. >> Diddy. >> Diddy. >> Diddy. [laughter] >> Well, I believe I can fit that into my schedule, yes. Although, I don't have the name of anyone. I feel like I recommend it to the situation. [sighs] >> I have my abs. [sighs] >> Okay. [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] >> I'm fortunate. [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] >> I mean, the cold wall. >> The cold wall. >> The cold wall. >> The thinking should I crack my ankle on the way down the staircase. [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] [sighs] >> Well, as an antiquarian, you'd be well placed to look at this guy's supposed to cults library. >> Yeah, I mean, he has such a really, really a set. >> Yeah. >> And I'd love to see his collection, yeah. >> Absolutely. So, okay, hell ring. >> Right. >> As you think about it, you're like, "Okay, yes. Thomas, Lord, Thomas, hell ring, yes." There's a history of, you know, Florence had mentioned he met in an early end. >> Mm-hmm. >> She was being delicate. >> Oh. >> As you kind of think on it, you realize you had heard of this. You hadn't connected the name. >> Mm-hmm. >> You're like, "Oh, late." Oh, that's... Okay, that's the guy. >> That's that late. >> Yeah, who supposedly went insane and killed his wife's lover. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> And was and, himself, disappeared on a mysterious circumstances. >> Ah! >> So, there's this history of madness in the family. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> History of madness. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Let me get out of my pen. >> Mm-hmm. >> That's good. >> I remember... >> I will put, I would... You would probably be sick of me saying and putting on every opportunity to happen. I'm a brilliant scholar, people of mine. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> I know. >> I know. >> I know. >> I'm with that one guy. >> Braggie McGee. >> Braggie McGee. >> With the hair. >> Braggie McGee. >> With the hair. >> Braggie McGee. >> Braggie McGee. >> With the hair. >> Braggie McGee. >> With the hair. >> Braggie McGee. >> With the hair. >> Braggie McGee. >> They did the right thing coming to me. >> Yeah. [ Laughter ] >> That's what I'm talking about. >> Yeah, even E.D. agrees. >> Mm-hmm. >> It's true. >> I know. >> I know. >> And how are you contacting Inspector Pike? >> Mm-hmm. >> Hey, maybe I just happened to be doing just walking down the same street. It's coincidence. >> They're not. >> They don't know. >> They don't know. >> They don't have been to you. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> An odd coincidence. >> Mm-hmm. >> Indeed. >> Mm-hmm. >> Oh, excuse me, madam. I... [ Laughter ] >> Oh, weren't you at this meeting? I remember the back of your head. >> Detective Pike. >> Do you want me to match your hat? >> I do. >> My hat. >> Crazy ass hat. >> I don't even want everyone to take the damn hat. >> It's weather. >> Yeah, I can see anybody. >> Boving. [ Laughter ] >> To the sneeze. [ Laughter ] >> How are you bearing this morning? >> I'm bearing quite well. I have an exciting assignment from no less than Florence Far. >> Oh, my. >> If you are willing to join me in this super-secret proceeding. >> Oh. >> We are meeting DD on Tuesday at Constantine's. >> Oh. >> Do you have that time available? >> As a matter of fact, it is my day off tomorrow. >> Excellent. >> It will be our Tuesday. >> Tuesday. >> Yes. >> We are going to get a Lord Thomas Pelgrin of the latent Pelgrains and a cult scholar who wishes to join. Now, get this. Wishes to join at the inner order level. Straight bang to the top. >> That's -- I mean, is that common? Is that -- do people try to do that? >> No, it's unheard of. >> That's unheard of. [ Laughter ] >> He claims to have certain secret knowledge. And we are to evaluate him and said knowledge. >> Well, I can offer my services. You know, the things that I can do within my own other organization I'm a part of. >> Yes. >> In addition to my own wheelings and dealings. >> There was. >> Yes. >> So I can find out some information for you just to see what the background is on this fellow. >> There was someone pleasantness. >> I -- >> Some generations ago. >> It was just like a known thing that happened. >> How famous? >> It was a known case. >> It was a known case. >> Hell ring? >> Yeah. >> And, uh-oh. >> I'll call you. Let's see. 34. No. I don't have anything in a call. >> Okay. >> Excellent. >> All right, then. >> I know nothing about this case. >> Fine. >> But I am intrigued. >> Yes. >> And everyone has a little something in their background. I will go and check it out. >> Excellent. >> And I will see you on Tuesday. Good day. >> Okay. [ Laughter ] >> That's exactly what happened. [ Laughter ] >> The inner order. [ Laughter ] >> Exactly. >> Yeah. [ Laughter ] >> Do you want me to go outside? >> Maybe. >> Maybe. >> Maybe. >> Maybe. >> I will put Tuesday over for my patients to a lesser colleague. [ Laughter ] >> Okay. I think she will be okay. [ Laughter ] >> I think that I close that. >> Yeah. Let me go. Let me go. [ Laughter ] >> No problem. >> This is getting kind of close in here anyway. It's good to get there. >> Yeah. It's true. Oh, is that why you're going? >> She's like, I'm really upset, but I still have to pay. >> Right. Priority here. >> Oh. Oh goodness. >> Okay, sorry. >> Okay. So, yes. Arrangements are made. Patients refer to lesser colleagues. [ Laughter ] >> We have Monday, right? >> You do have Mondays. >> Well, I'd like to do a library use to look up Pelgrain. >> I'll be right back. >> Anything possible with Pelgrain. >> Yeah. >> That's quite a beautiful. >> Yeah. >> Oh, you're doing that? All right. [ Laughter ] I choose you to do nothing then. >> All right. I'll work. [ Laughter ] >> Well, you know, more than one role. >> Yeah. >> You can try -- I don't even really need to -- >> I mean, it would be in my character to go try and look this up to get a jump on the situation. >> Exactly. >> You know? >> Sure. >> But in this case, it wouldn't be a library use or it'll be a credit rating role. >> Ah. >> So I'll, like, call my dad and see what he knows. >> Actually, I was thinking the same thing. >> Really? >> I would be very close with my elderly father. >> Mm-hmm. >> And since he, too, is an antiquarian. >> Yes. >> He might have seen it. >> No. >> He might have seen it. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> Okay. Yeah, sure. You can both try a credit rating role then. >> All righty. >> And I fail. >> Mine is zero zero four. >> Whoa. >> Oh, so you roll in. >> So you roll in. So you roll in four. >> Well, the four. >> Yes. So that is good. >> That's how you do it. >> Basically, any time you roll less than 20% of your skill, so, like, an 85 would be a 17 or less. >> Okay. >> That's, like, a critical success. So, yeah, four. That's good. >> That was me just mentioning it casually to my father probably at the team, you know, the afternoon. >> Oh, and go ahead and put a little check in the box next to credit rating there. >> Is the water still warm? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That's fine. >> Oh, thank you. >> Okay. >> Pretty good. >> All right. So I am looking at something with the yod. >> Okay. >> The yod. >> It's really difficult because-- >> Yes, it is. >> It is a mess. It's ghastly. So, yes. >> Do you have a law? >> I do. 40. >> Give it a half. >> Ooh. >> Okay. I'm curious. What is the mechanics behind the halves? >> It means difficult. >> Really? >> Yes. >> Wow. >> This would be double, you know. >> Oh, no, I got zero to zero. >> You got three zeros in a row? You got three zeros in a row. You guys are defying the odds. All right. >> We are. >> So, in your conversation with your father, he-- yes, I recall the pilgrines well. >> You look with your father? >> Not mine. >> Oh, your father. >> Oh. >> Because he was an antiquarian as well. >> Oh, okay. All right. Family business. >> Yes, that's right. >> Might have heard of them. >> Mm-hmm. >> Definitely. >> And also in the occult. >> Definitely. >> Yes. I don't know so much about this occult business, but I did make some purchases off Reginald Pelbrane, the-- I believe the father of this younger Thomas, who I think actually goes by his middle name Arthur, usually. >> Arthur Pelbrane? >> Mm-hmm. >> Yes, I've heard that Reginald died a few months ago, actually, in a carriage accident. >> Oh, goodness. >> What? >> Cal. >> Cal. >> That's why Thomas has the books probably come up quite small. >> No. >> No, no, no. >> And Arthur has a bit of a reputation, so I want you to be careful around it, darling. >> Mm-hmm. >> He's a bit of a rake, a bit of a playboy. >> Oh, what? >> A few hushed-up scandals. >> Oh, yes. >> Oh, dear, dear, dear, dear. >> They're, um, Pelbrane, they're reasonably wealthy, an old family name, but not terribly well-connected, well-known. >> Mm-hmm. >> They've been in decline in the last few generations. >> Especially with all the scandalous behavior going on. >> No, that's just incredibly inspiring. >> Mm-hmm. >> But it was too hard benefit. I made some fine purchases off of them when they came upon hard times three years ago. >> Oh. >> Mm-hmm. >> All right. >> Mm-hmm. >> Like what? Sorry, I'm not there. >> Yeah, you're not there. >> Sorry. >> I'm curious. Like, what if we purchased what? >> Um, I bought about half a day library. >> Half a day library. >> Yeah. It's like a PDF set, and there's a edition of Johnson's Dictionary, and that's everything. >> Anything unusual or exceptional? >> No. >> No, that's very interesting. >> First edition, is that something? >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Correct. >> You're right. >> I know. >> Mm-hmm. >> Very unsavory. >> I don't know. I don't know how I feel about meeting him now. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah, let's kind of have it that I'm starting here in character. >> Mm-hmm. >> And it's perceived in caution. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Well, you all be in groups, so that's great. >> Safety numbers. >> Even then. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> I'm sure, though, I'd think not much more of it, and just go back to exchanging pleasantries. >> Mm-hmm. >> Try to muddle through. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yes. >> Mm-hmm. >> Right. >> So, any other Monday business for anyone? >> Monday business. I'm still looking in my -- I'm looking through files. >> Yeah, you know, on your lunch hour, you snatch them. >> Mm-hmm. >> That's what your half-law rolls for. So, holly. >> All right. >> Yes. >> Now, you know that, just from your own professional experience, but if this Thomas Pelgrain elder died under such scandalous circumstances that there might be some files on him at the latent police, you know, or courts rather. >> Okay. So, I'll send a courier to, um, to look that up for me, or do I go -- I can go? >> You can go, you know. >> Okay. >> But, you know, you're working today, so. >> Yeah, I can't go. >> Yeah. >> Oh, well. I'll go Tuesday morning. Do you think I'll be able to make it back in time? >> Mm-hmm. It's about an hour train, right? >> And dinner. All right, it's dinner. >> Mm-hmm. Yeah, four o'clock. >> Yeah, I can make it back. >> Mm-hmm. >> Go out first thing and then come back. >> Sure. >> Okay. >> Thank you. Of course, I don't make it. >> Okay. So the, um, latent is just a small town. Sort of a, uh, a gentleman farmer's sort of community, you know. >> Mm-hmm. >> Um, and their courthouse is very small and abysmally organized. >> Uh-huh. >> It makes even the chaos a new scholar in the yard look, um, down right, um, it's like a pedic. >> Uh-huh. All righty. >> All righty. >> That's what I'm, that's what I'm doing. >> All right. >> And that's it. >> I'm going to look at it. I'm going to ask for it. I'm going to ask for people. So what's the one on? >> Let's go down to the huckle pub. >> Yeah. >> Here's some interesting stuff. >> Yeah, I'm going to pick up a get a pint early drinks. >> Mm-hmm. >> Get a pint and-- >> Very early drinks. >> All right. >> I'm going to get an extra lunchtime. >> That's true. >> Yeah, exactly. Come on. Give me something a little bit of-- >> Give me, give me a credit card. >> My reading is good. I just kiss myself. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, I know. >> You're doing good? >> Yeah. >> I love these dice. >> Yeah. >> You got, you got, you got copper written all over you. >> Oh. >> And they're not-- >> They're not going to speak about-- >> They're not going to speak about the personal private scandals and they're small, well-meaning communities. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah. >> They're outside of this. >> Yeah. >> They're outside of this. >> They seem to us. You know what these things are. >> Yeah. >> That's true. All right. Well, I tried. I'm a change and head back to London, where the cool people are. >> Right. So you all convene at Constantine's. >> Mm-hmm. >> It's a kind of upscale restaurant in St. John's wood on the west end. Padmo, when you went to a range for a table, you found it had already been arranged. >> Oh, wow. >> For a party of six. Not just a table, but a private room, in fact. >> Oh. >> For six. >> Yeah. >> Mm-hmm. >> Is Florence coming? >> I don't know. I guess so. >> Well, we'll find out. >> Yes. So when you get there, you are ushered into this private room. And there is DDI and SSDD, aka Florence Farf. >> Oh. >> Both already seated. And they, you know, stand welcoming you. As you all filter in, individual times of arrival. >> Mm-hmm. >> So, you know, some pleasant small talk is exchanged, you know, and you're all being seated and settling in. You know, DDI talks about the weather. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Nice run of weather we've been having lately. >> Mm-hmm. >> I expect him rain any time. >> Indeed. >> And as he does so, the cucumber soup is brought out and presents it differently. >> Mm-hmm. >> And then the wait for that sort of excuse and so slide the bullet shot. And his manner gets much more serious as soon as you're all alone. I believe you're all aware of why we've convened here today. And I believe my associate has informed you that for reasons we cannot divulge what we are asking you to do cannot go beyond the boundaries of this room. >> Mm-hmm. >> Certainly. >> I had asked SSD to help select some competence but relatively, forgive me, unimportant [laughter] >> Only in the sense of the order. >> I think it's funny. >> The day introduced me, right? >> I hope that I can rely on all of you discretion but for our own peace of mind. >> Yes, yes. >> If you would just all swear on your honor as members to keep what we discussed today sequence. >> Of course. >> What does he look like? >> He's young, he's sort of in his mid to late twenties. He's got pins in his spectacles on. >> Sort of. >> You know, typically Irish. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mustache? >> No. He's shaving. >> No. >> His style of time. >> Well, oh. >> Sorry. [laughter] >> They made you grow the mustache and you join the yard. >> True. They do. >> Actually, it just appeared on your first day at work. [laughter] >> You woke up and looked in the mirror like, "Oh, my God." [laughter] >> Oh, my God. [laughter] >> Oh, my God. [laughter] >> I'm just going to take a reading, I don't know, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. >> All right. >> All right. >> All right. >> All right. >> And his desire to join the dawn. He wishes to start at the grade of Adeptus Minor, i.e. a member of the inner order. >> Is that, what level is that at? Is that at like a low level inner? >> That's the first tier group. >> The first tier of the inner order. >> I'm so trying to chime right in at the inner order. >> Can I, can I make maybe a psychology rule that come up with some sort of theory as to why he's so crazed to do this? >> Pelgrine? >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Sure. >> Okay. >> It's just normal. Made it well. >> Oh, okay. >> For someone so young and with, with a reputation like that, he's either an ego maniac or he's got the real, the real deal. >> Mm-hmm. >> Okay. And, and DEDI seems to think this as well. You know, he, he says as much. He says, normally this would be an impossible request, as I'm sure you're all aware. But he is claiming in his letter to me, he wrote me specifically, to have access to family secrets. >> Well, and especially if his grandfather was, um. >> And he, he, he. >> I will assure DEDI that I will use science to discover this man's true character. >> Excellent. >> So he sort of nods to. >> Yeah, we know. >> Well done. >> From the cards. >> Mm-hmm. [ Laughter ] >> Yes, he, he claims that this, this family secret will provide the dawn with the substantial body of heretofore unknown adult knowledge. >> Holy balls. [ Laughter ] >> Sorry. [ Laughter ] >> I got carried a lot of the music's really getting me into it. Like, oh my God. >> So, so your faux pas is covered up by the doors, sliding back. [ Laughter ] >> The next, the next course being brought in, which is big doe-rissole. >> Mm-hmm. >> In a sort of a pretty good crust. [ Laughter ] >> Sorry, I'm sorry. >> It's awesome. >> I would have been scandalous, of course. >> I would. >> I would have been very, very well. >> Mm-hmm. [ Laughter ] >> My cooking skill is 75. I'm wondering if I could see this. >> Oh my God. >> Oh my God. >> It's like a cooking roll to see what you think of it. >> It's under it. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> It's very well prepared. >> Okay. >> You think you could maybe do as well. But, you know. >> It's edible. >> I will say exactly that. [ Laughter ] >> This is very good. It's up to my standards. [ Laughter ] >> Oh my God. >> Are you sure you are all? This is good food. [ Laughter ] >> Thank you, sir. [ Laughter ] >> Yeah, DED, I kind of pause it like happy. [ Laughter ] >> Such a discernment. This is good. >> Indeed. >> I was bordering a little. >> Uh-huh. >> Uh-huh. >> So, yes. I intend to accompany you on your investigation. >> Uh-huh. >> Oh. But afterwards, we will put our collective minds together and reach a point of decision on young Pelverine's claims. >> Uh-huh. >> Should they turn out to be worthless, our secret mission need not be known to any, and thus spare embarrassment within both the order and without, that we would have been entertained such an outrageous claim. >> Uh-huh. >> Uh-huh. >> However, if it has merit, you will get credit for assisting in making that decision and bringing this knowledge into the order. >> Will we get a little bum? >> I was going to ask, would that have any influence on our standing, increasing our standing? >> Certainly. >> That's a lot. >> The order would look much more kindly upon you and, uh, that would definitely help speed your progression. >> Mm-hmm. >> Um, very well then. Uh, as you know, Loudon is an hour's ride. Um, Northeast of here. Um, I was thinking of going out tomorrow evening, if that works for everyone. >> Um, yeah. >> That's Wednesday evening? >> Uh-huh. >> Yes, I do. >> Excellent. >> Um, I think that should be fine for me, too. >> For me to be away from that time, I'll make arrangements. >> Will Florence be attending? >> Uh-huh. >> Uh-huh. >> Oh. >> All right. >> What? >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> She your friend? >> Uh-huh. >> She your friend's outside of the order? >> Yes. >> Oh. >> We both went to the same school. >> Oh. >> Chilton and, Chilton and Mary's got. >> I see. >> And indeed, I spent a part of my childhood in Florence. So you see this. It's rather humorous, there. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Mm-hmm. >> The peasant mandarin is presented. >> Mm-hmm. Dig in. >> Yes. Yes. Yes. And the meal is finished out in similar, sort of pleasant, small talk. >> A lot of fillers. >> The meal escalates with mushrooms. >> Ooh. >> Carrots, beefy. >> Mm-hmm. >> Which are sliced sauteed carrots and cream and chopped parsley. >> Mm-hmm. >> The dessert is gooseberry fool, chilled gooseberry puree, folded into fresh whipped cream. >> That's wonderful. >> And then apparently in Victorian meals, you had your appetizer after the dessert. And it was called the savory. >> Mm-hmm. >> So the savory is angels on horseback, oysters grilled and wrapped bacon. >> Mm-hmm. >> Wow. >> They're probably not fine. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Not sure from the sea. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Is that something you would mention? >> I don't think so. >> Can I notice this? >> Idea rolls would notice it. >> Why am I rolling this? >> I do not know it. >> I pass. >> I pass. >> I feel miserable. >> Good old Inspector Pike always gets his man. >> [LAUGH] >> Well, like a doctor didn't notice it as well. >> That's true, that's good. All right, yeah. So the lady on my left, I happen to see if she's not eating at the fish. >> I mean, I think that it might be not as much of the fish. >> Not as much of the fish. >> I'm terribly embarrassed. >> Yeah, but it's just not avoiding. >> It's not going to make a big deal out of it. >> Yeah, I mean, if you must now, I suppose, all of them. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> I must now. >> [LAUGH] >> I'm not terribly fond of the sea or the creatures there in. >> Mm-hmm. >> Interesting. >> And there's something about the way she says it. It makes me not respond jovially. >> Oh. >> Makes me take it. Okay. >> All right. >> [LAUGH] >> Geez. >> Kind of stuff on something. >> [LAUGH] >> Okay. >> So you, uh- >> All right. >> Girl, take your leaves. >> Yes, yes, yes. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> And, uh, if there's anything else anyone wants to do over the ensuing 24 hours or so? Or they'll just proceed on to Wednesday. >> Mm-hmm. >> Maybe I'll, um, let me frequent certain gentleman's clubs. >> Certainly. The non-skisie kind. >> The non-skisie kind. >> The actual gentleman's clubs. >> The middle class gentleman's clubs, yes. >> [LAUGH] >> And. >> Yeah. >> Put that in your pipe and smoke. >> That's right. [LAUGH] >> Smoke, smoke, pipe. >> May I offer you some tobacco to put in your pipe and smoke? >> Yes. >> [LAUGH] >> Wow. Yes. >> Turkish shag. >> [LAUGH] >> So I do that. >> Some, uh, bulk insubund. >> Yes, that's what I do. >> [LAUGH] >> Mm-hmm. >> [LAUGH] >> So, um, Wednesday night. >> Mm-hmm. >> Comes about. Um, let's see. Are you all going to just kind of head out there yourselves individually? >> Well, I thought we would rent a carriage or... >> I'm sure I have my own carriage but I'd be happy to supply. >> True. >> Wonderful. >> Wow. >> That's so convenient. >> Awesome. >> So we'll meet at your shop. >> I suppose I'm sure I'd be legally happy to have them called 40. >> Mm-hmm. >> Send your man around. >> Awesome. >> Send a man around. >> Better yet. >> Fettos. >> Uh-oh. Fettos. >> Uh-oh. >> Fettos. >> Uh-oh. >> Fettos. >> Uh-oh. [LAUGH] >> I'd be more than happy to send my carriage for you all. >> Welcome. >> Alright. >> So the Victoria. >> Yes. >> Comes around. >> Yes. >> Oh? >> Oh, is there no more music? >> I think we're just in a quiet air movie. >> Oh. [LAUGH] >> That was a moment of awe. >> I was like, hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> You doubted it earlier. >> I know, I did, but I got to do it. >> Okay. >> Bear with me? Hold on. [LAUGH] >> How long did you make the mix? >> It's like two and a half hours. >> Awesome. >> No, you weren't. But it was not two and a half hours. >> It jumped. >> It did. >> There was stuff going on. >> There were issues. >> There were photograph things. >> Which was perfect, though. >> That was perfect. >> That was perfect. >> I like the way that lined up, actually. >> Oh, it's... >> Wait, Daniel. >> There it is. >> Anyway. [LAUGH] >> In any event. >> So we're getting picked up. >> Well, it's okay because it's taking time. >> Yeah. >> Sure. >> I meant to go back a little bit. >> Of course. >> Of course. >> All over London. >> We're about to go live, really. >> Yeah, I don't know. >> I mean, we've got a map. >> I guess I'm gonna pick that. >> Yeah. >> You don't have to be super specific. You don't have to say-- >> No, I don't know. >> 2.8 or anything like that. >> Well, the general vicinity. >> Yes. >> Well, I don't know, like, what-- >> The general rule of London is West End equals good. East End equals bad. >> Right. >> South of the river is solidly middle class. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> But there are exceptions everywhere. There's actually this poverty map from the 1890s where they map out every block of London by family income. And even in, like, Kensington Gardens, there's a block that's red, which means wealthy. And then right one block over, it's, like, black, which means the worst of the poor. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> I'm sure I would not get to live near the river, friends. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah. Especially being a tidal river and all. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> I guess I'll lift south, 'cause, like you said, south of the river. >> Solidly middle class. >> Solidly middle class. >> Mm-hmm. >> Near... >> Mm-hmm. >> The park. >> Yeah. >> Batchers. >> Battersea. >> Battersea. >> Battersea. >> Battersea. >> Battersea park. >> A near-battersea park. >> Mm-hmm. >> I like how it was set up pretty much now. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> But I would... >> Mm-hmm. >> I was one of those close to the upper areas I could... >> Mm-hmm. >> Sort of like either the best part of the middle class neighborhood or the worst part of an upper class neighborhood. >> Mm-hmm. >> Right. >> Yeah. >> So, I don't know. >> So, probably somewhere between, like, Kensington and the city proper. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah. >> And I'll be on Sloan Street. So, let's say James is part of the area. >> Oh, yeah, nice. >> Because my family is diplomatic ties. We are not diplomatic. We are minor functionaries. >> Mm-hmm. Sure. Let me get it in. >> Right. >> Mm-hmm. >> Okay. >> All righty. >> Mm-hmm. >> So, yeah, there isn't a whole lot of running around for your coachman to do, other than going south of the river for this one here. >> I would have sent him for this first. >> Mm-hmm. >> I'm going back in. >> You picked up. >> It's like taking the airport shuttle. >> Yep. [ Laughter ] >> So, congratulations. It starts filling up. >> Mm-hmm. >> Is that snow? >> Yeah. >> And then you hit the road out of town northeast. >> All right. Okay. >> I've loved to meet you. So, you've been given the directions to get to the ground, the co-brand estates, by the EDI. >> Mm-hmm. >> It's indeed the eyes with us. >> No, he's going to meet you there. >> Oh, meeting us there. >> Is it his own carriage? >> Indeed. >> Mm. That makes sense. >> Mm-hmm. And indeed, as you take the turn off from low and proper out towards the estate, those of you sitting on the side where you can kind of see out a little bit. You kind of hit a curve of the road and you can see the manner sort of twinkling in the gathering dust and a smaller carriage pulling up outside of it. >> Okay. >> And so you arrive just a couple of minutes after the EDI. >> Mm-hmm. >> And he hops out and sort of greets you all as you're debarking. And as you're all kind of straightening your jackets and your hat and so forth, a young man emerges from the front doors of the estate, onto the terrace and, you know, it's this classic sort of late 17th century and English manner house, you know. So, there he comes out. And he says, "Ah, welcome. Welcome everyone." >> Mm. Hello. Hello. >> Hello. >> Hello. So, yeah, he comes down. He starts taking your hands. But he's sort of like restraining himself from asking your names. >> Mm-hmm. >> And his eyes sort of flick over to the end. >> Mm-hmm. >> And he seems most pleased to meet the EDI himself. >> Mm-hmm. >> And, but he seems to be treating you all with sort of equal references. If he's assuming you're all probably in your order. >> Mm-hmm. But this should be familiarity. I mean, this is how you expect to be treated. >> Sure. >> Yeah. >> Come on. Jesus. >> Jesus. >> I understand this might be closet for you. >> Mm-hmm. >> Must be. [ Laughter ] >> All right. >> So, please, please come in. So, he ushers you up into the manor house, and there's a, you know, a line of servants there waiting, and they all take your coats and hats. >> All right. >> And he ushers you all into a very well-appointed, you know, lane-scotted parlor where there's a fire going and the fire in the large, you know, fire place. >> Mm-hmm. >> They could stand in, basically. >> Yeah, I'm curious because, as it was pointed out, it's mostly about my father. They had been in some financial troubles. This is just the family home. This is just the central place. >> This is still well. >> The Pelbrane Estate. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> And, you know, it looks like for whatever troubles they've had, you know, they're keeping up appearances. >> The secondary rooms. >> Well, not exactly. >> Mm-hmm. >> When you go to the bathroom, don't open any of the doors. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Mm-hmm. >> So the -- >> Oh, I don't know. >> You're fine. I haven't thought. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. Is this the same place, then? Like, where -- >> Where did it happen? >> Yeah. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> This is the estate, therefore. >> Mm-hmm. >> Just grandfather's estate. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah. >> Is it the same place? >> It -- it most likely is, yeah. >> I don't know. >> The hell grain estates. They don't tend to move around too much. >> Well, they do standing. I'm sure I would be glad enough to knock on the mark of others. >> No. >> Yeah. >> No. >> No. >> No. >> Yeah. >> No. >> No. >> No. >> No. >> No. >> No. >> No. >> So the servants, you know, bustling about pouring tea and so forth. >> Mm-hmm. >> I don't know if he's standing next to the fireplace, like, trying to kind of put his arm on his own, like, this casual, you know, but he's, like, just looking completely, like, nervous, and there's a little bit of sweat on the brow, you know. >> Okay. I mean, he used to be running near the fire. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Come on. >> Well, yeah. >> It's a little -- >> Cool sweat. We'll see. And -- >> Okay, so I'm observing the whole room, like, what's in the room, you know, and noticing how he feels nervous. Right? I mean, you've noticed that. >> I mean, he's like, "I'm going to do this." >> No. >> No. >> He definitely knows that. >> Okay. Yes. Yes. You can tell he's not sweating from the fire. >> No. >> And it seems -- >> He seems an easy. >> Yeah. He seems to feel genuinely, like, you know -- >> Stuff on the line. >> Yeah, exactly. It's all in the line. How is this going to go over? >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah. He's anxious. >> It's like an inspector. [ Laughter ] >> Only a slight twitch of the mustache indicates you're trying to -- [ Laughter ] >> Mm-hmm. >> Um -- >> You know, actually I guess I should make your psych roll to see if I noticed that as well. >> Yeah. >> Um, '68. But I will -- I made it. I will -- I will mention this that he -- >> Oh. >> -- was nervous. >> Oh. >> Oh. >> And ask him if there's anything we can do to put him if he is. >> Oh. >> Mm-hmm. >> He asks us as the servants are sort of finishing the last of their bustling, and they excuse themselves. And he says, "Well, served." >> Oh. >> Damn. I am nervous. >> Doctor. >> Oh, doctor. [ Laughter ] >> I am nervous. But only because I feel like I have so much to offer you. And I'm just glad that you're giving me a chance to prove my claims. >> I have a question. >> Yes. >> Wait. Are we allowed to, like, ask him a question? >> Certainly. >> A DDI. >> Oh, yeah, yeah. DDI seated himself in one of the armchairs, and he just kind of -- >> Observing. >> -- doing his fingers and observing it. >> Okay. My question is, why would you want to offer these items to us as opposed to a museum or some other type of archival or an antiquarian type individual? Why do you deem this organization that we should have these pieces? >> Because, frankly, I believe that the material that my grandfather has left to our legacy is of great occult power. And should not -- >> You truly believe this. >> -- I do. And that it should not be put out into the general populace but should be given to an esteemed order, such as the Colton Don, who would, frankly, know what to do with it. >> I'm totally curious how these things came into your possession, having been protected from being pawned off by your father. >> They are -- yes, my father. He didn't want anything to do with my grandfather's studies and was perfectly happy ignoring what was left to our legacy by him. It was also a matter of outside out of mind. The materials I refer to are contained in a secret room. And how old is Thomas? >> He's in his early 20s. >> And when did his grandfather die? >> His grandfather died in 1845. >> So, if his grandfather died before he was born, then how did he come across these? >> My father told me of the sealed room. And these are matters of family lore. My father told me about this in a tone of approbation. I think he felt that better -- that I heard it from him than rumors from the servants or local villagers. >> If you are involved with grandfather, then how do you know the amount of the cult? >> Well, all I can say is that I don't know for certain, but all I do know is that my grandfather was a sorcerer of great power, who -- the common belief is that he murdered my grandmother. Or rather, my grandmother's lover. But instead, what really happened, according to my father, was that he banished the man from this material plane using his sorceress powers. >> So, to let you bring a view, examine these materials. I have not examined them myself for fear of causing them inadvertence, damage, or distress. >> And he goes, how do you have anyone else examine them? >> He died not. And that is why I've asked you all to come here. You did. >> My question is, what makes you think that you should be in the inner order if you've no knowledge of these items when you could be perfectly satisfied with just being -- you know, included in our organization. Why must you be in the inner sanctum if you have no knowledge of these particular items? >> Because I am offering you great knowledge and power, and that is simply the price I'm asking. I do not require money or any other kind of compensation. >> But you do understand that being in the order is -- you know, there are certain levels and certain stages that you need to go through. And if you bypass all of those, just because you have elements that you have no control over, how is that serving you? >> Yeah, DEDI actually mutters something. When you say that, you can all make a listen. >> I make it. >> Okay. So the two of you sort of pick it up. He just mutters, do not call up any that you cannot put down. Sort of like an admonition to himself as much as anything. >> Well, we'll see. My moustachio colleague brings up a good point. [ Laughter ] >> My unpassively moustachio. >> I am concerned about this request, does it -- well, it could mean a number of things. It could mean a number of things about your state of mind. And I -- not to be too indelicate about this. Science is often seems strange to the men uninitiated. But to gain a -- I did your character. I'd like to feel the bumps on your skull. [ Laughter ] >> That's certainly -- yes. >> Perhaps after we examine the room. And DEDI is sort of visibly excited by all this, you know, despite itself. He was admonishing himself because he was getting so into this tale. And he says, yes, yes. Let's see what Thomas Arthur Pelgrain has to offer us here. >> Yes. See these things. >> I wonder though, Lord Pelgrain, if any of your grandfather's papers survive outside of the sealed room. And -- >> What do you mean? >> You know, his grandfather's papers are sealed up. >> Right. >> So are there any that survive outside the sealed room? >> Oh, okay. >> Just, you know, to get a look at anything else that you might have. >> Okay. >> And Arthur's said -- >> I believe my great grandfather burned most of my grandfather's papers. >> Okay. >> After my grandfather disappeared. >> All right. >> But I believe my grandmother's diary, and he kind of heads over to a shelf. >> Yes, a diary. >> Pulled down a small book. >> Oh, man. >> Yes, we have this here. >> You begin. >> Yep. >> So he slips it into his co-pocket. >> Oh. >> And he says, oh, you know, if you wish to look at this later, we can look at it later. But let's, you know, let's attend to why we are all here. >> Yes, fine. >> So a couple of candle lobbers are lit, and you're taken out to the grand staircase in the entry hall and brought up into the darkened recesses of the second floor. And down a hall by candlelight, you make your way to a section of wall where, you know, there are paintings, portraits, and landscapes, and that sort of thing. But the particular section of the wall has had the paintings taken down and just set off to the side. And there's a sledgehammer meaning up against the wall. >> Oh, okay. >> And one of the servants in standing there with his own little candle lobberity and waiting there. >> Oh, what's the purpose of the sledgehammer? >> I assumed to open the ceiling of sealed room. >> Indeed. >> The room. >> When I say the room was sealed, I mean it was sealed. The door was locked, and a false wall was plastered over it. >> Oh, yeah, see, so this is the first time you're opening it. >> Indeed. >> And how do you... >> All right. >> You can see why he was nervous. >> Okay. >> All right. It has no other entrances or exits, windows. >> Very kind. >> In that case, if the rest of your house was in good keeping, the artifacts should be in good condition. >> Yeah. >> That is my hope as well. So with that, he nods to a servant who heps the sledgehammer and steps back. >> It would be ugly. >> What did he look like? He's part of the gardener. He's got, you know, big old biceps, you know. >> All right. >> And a sandy blonde hair. >> He's the under gardener. >> A freckly complexion. Steps back. Gives it a, you know, good swing and there's a big sledgehammer sized hole in the wall. >> Yep, yep. Do be careful. You don't know what is immediately on the other side. But like crush anything. >> Yes. So. >> Sometimes you can see. >> Have you opened other seal grooves like this? >> All the time. [laughter] >> That is ripe with sealed grooves. [laughter] >> I sleep with a different one every night. [laughter] >> We do this all right now. >> I have sealed grooves. >> Quite a good trade for room openers. These are sealed from the inside. All right. So on the third stretch. The plaster just kind of begins to crumble and come off of big chunks. And so you'll kind of lean in with your candles, you know. And you can see a, you know, simple wooden door on the far side, you know, six inches back from where the plaster was. Little plaster dust on it, but otherwise okay. There's a large crucifix. >> Oh boy. >> Apparently cast of solid silver. >> Wow. >> Attached with brackets and nails. >> Oh. >> And below the crucifix, scrawled in chalk. >> Oh. >> Reads, "May the Lord's good grace watch over this damned room and may he forgive the folly of those who enter." [laughter] So at that, the heart is really. Yes. Anyway. [laughter] And he produces. >> What does DDI do to that? >> He just, he's just watching, you know, cajole. >> All right. >> Fixes his pinsenets. >> Mm-hmm. >> So Arthur produces a key and unlocks the door. The door swings open. And a moist smell emerges. So it tickles your nostrils. >> Oh gosh. Please no doubt. They're not on the books. [laughter] >> Well give me, give me no rolls, everyone. >> No. >> That's cool. I don't know. Oh, worth anything. >> I know. >> 37. >> 23. >> Oh. >> 50. >> So, okay. You would definitely know and you would just know. It's Fresh Blood. >> What? >> That's the smell? That's the smell. >> Oh. >> I wouldn't definitely know that. [laughter] >> That's true. >> Miss House. >> You're actually right. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> You're comfortable with it. You don't smell it. It's just too long. [laughter] >> We're related. >> Yeah. Our constitution was just too weak. >> Oh. >> Science. >> Well. >> Yeah. >> So it's Fresh Blood. It doesn't smell like. >> Fresh Blood and great quantities. >> Oh. >> What? >> Well then I'll, I'll announce this. I'll say that. That's the smell of Fresh Blood. >> Oh. >> Well acquainted with it. >> Oh. [laughter] >> Very easy. >> Sure. I would ask, how long did you say this room was sealed for? >> 45 years. >> I thought so. >> This is extraordinary. >> That's a possible amount. >> There must be another entrance. >> Someone was sealed inside. >> Still. And chose now to expire? >> Well, let's enter. Shall we? >> Yes. >> Let's go in. >> Shall we proceed? >> Could we send the, the door opener in first? >> I'm sure I would be terribly excited. I'm dying to see these artifacts. >> Sure. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> You and Arthur both. And the rest of you sort of follow. >> Yeah. >> The, the sermon actually is, you know, genuflecting. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Like I'm out of here. >> I'm going to go tell me my wife. [laughter] >> All right. We're the worst room today. [laughter] >> Go blind me open. I'm going to go open a door like that. [laughter] >> I told you door open. It was going to be bloody. [laughter] >> I was going to be the 10 of you. [laughter] >> Oh. >> All right. So, um, okay. So with your, with your various candles, you proceed into the room. It's only about 20 feet square. So it's a small room. >> Windowless. >> Yes. >> Um, the. >> Is it furnished at all? >> Yes. There, there are tables, chairs, benches. >> As you wear our candles and where is the blood coming from? >> Exactly. That's the first thing you notice, really. >> Coming in. >> Uh-huh. >> On the bare, un-carpeted floor. Everyone, you know, instantly notices a rough, glistening blood stinging on the floor. Very fresh. >> Mm-hmm. >> Calling for sanity old. >> No. [laughter] >> For essentials. >> Mm, I don't make it. >> No, I need to make that under my, uh... >> Under your current sanity. Okay. >> Oh, I made it. >> I did. >> Under it. >> I didn't make it. I've seen crime scenes, but this is different. >> This is unnerving. >> This is unnerving. >> You must do paper. >> No, I've been on the streets. >> No, I've been on the streets. >> But you didn't expect it tonight. >> Well, actually, you lose one point, by the way. >> Yeah, I know. >> The reason you find it so disturbing is because it does look like a crime scene. There's splatter patterns. It's not just like a pool of blood. It's like there's a blood stain that you recognize as being like from a body that fell and bled. And then there are like actually splatter patterns on the floor. There's some splattering on the wall. >> This is unusual. >> It looks like a violent murder. >> This is highly unusual. This looks like a violent murder occurred in here, by the way. >> And it's all perfectly fresh. >> It's the essence of the body being taken. >> No problem. >> I check in with the ladies. Are you okay? >> Yes. >> Yes, thank you. >> Thank you. >> Yes, it'll be fine. [ Laughter ] >> I'm a little shaken. >> You got a little pale there. >> Yeah. >> All right. Thank you. >> Is this more blood than a human body would contain? >> No, it's a reasonable amount of blood. >> Looks like from an injury, like a reasonable amount of blood. >> Yes, that's the unreasonable word. >> It's a reasonable amount of blood in an unreasonable situation. >> So it just looks like it's from like a slash, like a stab. >> Like someone was stabbed or shot. >> And they fell in the blood. >> Well, no, it looks like there was maybe a struggle. >> Mm-hmm. >> Like someone was stabbed multiple times. >> There's no side of the body. >> And then they sort of bled out on the floor. >> Mm-hmm. >> There's no side of the body. >> And there's no side of the body. >> And there's no side of the body. And the blood is perfectly fresh as if the murder just occurred. >> Mm-hmm. >> Shocking. >> It's not congealed at all. >> No. >> Just fresh. >> Yeah. >> So other than that, there is a work table covered with bottles and jars. Resembling a sort of DIY chemistry set up or alchemy lab. There's also a sizable bookcase with sagging with moldering volumes. >> I'm sure I know where I'm headed. [ Laughter ] >> Lift muskirts. >> Yeah. [ Laughter ] >> So -- >> Well, I think it seems to do that, right? >> Not often. >> Yeah. >> More than you think, though. [ Laughter ] >> So Arthur is just transfixed, you know, by the blood as well. He sort of mumbles, "By God, the bitch told the truth." >> Okay. What are you talking about? What are you talking about? Who's the bitch? >> Mm-hmm. >> Language, sir. >> Excuse me. >> Is there -- >> You have a dog? >> The dog? >> Yeah. [ Laughter ] >> What's your name? Edie. She won it a lot. >> Yes. She did win in Barcelona. >> She barks at -- is very rude. >> Yes. >> So who told you that -- what are you talking about, sir? >> You know, he pulls the diary out. He says, "It's in my grandmother's diary." She says that the blood from -- that was found in this room after my grandfather's disappearance and that no matter how much she scrubbed and cleaned it, it would return fresh every morning. >> Wow. >> After your grandfather's disappearance? >> Indeed. >> Now, you said there's an alchemy set up in sort of like -- are there vials and things down there? Could I take a vial and maybe try to sample up this? >> Oh, certainly. >> Nice. >> Yes, there's a whole selection, all relatively dust-free, since it is a sealed room after all. But there's a different substance in every jar. You know, there's powders of various hues, there's bits of stone or plant matter. >> Stone. >> You even find a jar with formaldehyde and would look to be a set of preserved male genitalia of dark complexion. >> Okay. >> Yes, sir. >> For another slumber. [ Laughter ] >> Perhaps. >> What the -- >> Huh. >> I'm looking at all the items. >> You also find a little folder, like not exactly vanilla folder, but you know, the kind of portfolio, right? And sort of checking inside, you see a whole stack of handwritten notes. >> Okay. >> I have an alchemy skill of four. >> Oh. >> Oh, you took four levels around for me. >> Oh. >> Oh. >> Yeah. So that should give you a bonus to physics, right? >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, okay. Go ahead and make a chemistry. >> What is your thing? Tarot? >> Girls. >> Girls. >> Parks. >> Oh, my gosh. >> Biology. >> Biology. >> Biology. >> Biology. >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> Chemistry. >> What is your thing? Tarot? >> Girls. >> Girls. >> Yeah, so it's like, okay, I can take these powders and I can analyze them in a lab or something, you know, and I'll find out what they are. But just looking at them, yeah, no idea. >> Well, I will take a blood sample. >> Sure. >> Just put it in my pocket. >> Mm-hmm. >> Okay. >> All right. >> And the book shows. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. Give me a cold roll. >> Oh. Let me check them in. >> Oh, here we go. >> Oh, it's right smack. >> Oh, it's right between your feet there. >> Oh, he's going to get it. >> It's not food. >> It's not food. >> Try that a little less robustly. >> Ha! >> Ha! >> Ah, okay. >> Mm-hmm. >> 89. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Why not recognize some of the symbols on the spines? >> Exactly. >> You can see some biology. >> Do you want to head over there as well? >> Yeah. >> You have some biology? >> Yeah. >> I have a cult, and I have tarot as symbols, and I feel. >> Okay. >> I'll look at the box as well. >> Certainly. >> Yeah. >> They're all gathered around. >> Well, that's what we're here for. >> Well, there might be room, like, room size. >> Jim Antsy's mostly a divination, like, how she did carbonate. >> Okay. I did make by a cold roll. >> Okay. >> So, uh, so three of you are gathered around. Uh, DEDI is kind of checking things out as well. Um, he picks up the, uh, the, uh, folder with the handwritten notes in it. >> Mm-hmm. >> And he says, "Well, this could, uh, this could be fruitful." Um, let's see. Okay. So, looking at the tones, um, you know, you recognize, um, you recognize a few titles. The, uh, the Malius Maleficarum, the Oracles of Nostradamus, the Zohar. Uh, you recognize the Emerald Tablet, which is a, uh, alchemical text. So, you know, it seems like a pretty, pretty well-appointed, uh, occult library containing, you know, all the basics and- >> What kind of standard? >> Yeah. >> Standard stuff. But there, there are a lot of titles there that you don't recognize that may be worth, you know, checking out as well. >> It's good, yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> What does he think about? >> Yeah. >> You know, the folder under his arm, and kind of, you know, squints it at the books. And, uh, he says, "Yes, uh, I think the order would, uh, would definitely like to take possession of this library." >> Really? >> At the very least. >> Well, okay. >> Any other items around that? >> Yeah. >> Are there any other, like, objects in that? >> Yeah. >> Or costumes. >> There's pretty much the workbench. Uh, there's, like, a wooden chair, you know. >> Mm-hmm. >> But, um, yeah. >> And books? >> And the books. >> And that's it. So, how many books? >> What are we talking about? >> Like a wall. >> All right. >> Books. >> Uh, is there any, I want to search for any kind of a secret compartment entry, any kind of a, like, there's a candle? [laughter] Something might spin. >> You have just stripped wax on my grandfather's lap. >> Exactly. [laughter] >> It's so clean. I'm not sure you have it. >> Yeah, well, that's true, actually. Um, anything, uh, uh, I'm looking about a particular book that doesn't have any dust on it. >> You know, something like that. >> Something like that. >> That's about that as well. >> Something else is going to kill us. >> Something else is going to kill us. >> Something else is going to kill us. >> Yay! >> I'm going to look where they're looking. >> Of course they're on the same. >> Can I pass? >> Uh-huh. >> I miss by one. I miss by four. >> I miss by four. >> Spot Hidden. >> Spot Hidden. It would be under-ass. >> Uh-huh. >> Uh-huh. >> Okay. >> Uh-huh. >> Uh-huh. >> Um, you passed. >> I did. >> Let's take a check and slide. >> Okay. >> So, however, you ascertain that there is nothing unusual about this case. >> The blood is impossible. >> Hmm. >> It is. >> Isn't it? >> Yes, it is. >> Very strange. >> Very strange. >> And everyone go ahead and make a role against your power, i.e. D-100 role, trying to get your power or under. >> Wait, do you want it? >> What? >> Against your power or under. >> This is D-100. >> Yeah. >> Okay, you didn't have to- >> You didn't have to- >> Yeah. >> Complicate better. >> Fail. >> Fail. >> Did anyone get 96-100? >> No. >> Good to know. All right. >> Uh-huh. >> Mm-hmm. So- >> So, I- >> Yes. >> Didi, I see you have some papers there in the folio. But I have a glance at them for a moment? >> Certainly. He, uh, he hands you the folio. >> Mm-hmm. >> Speak, speak, speak. What's in the- >> It's a sheaf of about 40 loose sheets of fine writing paper. >> Mm-hmm. >> But only about 28 pages are written on. Written, hand written, one hand. Frequently interrupted by small charts, sketches, symbols, and the like. >> Probably. What's the last page look like? >> Um, it's just more of the same. >> Mm-hmm. >> They may not even be in order. >> Uh-huh. All right. So this looks like a chemical notes Didi, what did you say? >> Um, possibly magical. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah, so this is probably Thomas Pelbrine's private diaries. >> Okay. >> Uh-huh. >> All right. >> Well, they're investigating, can I ask, uh, Mr. Pelbride, if I could speak to him in private? >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. All right, so he's, he's, uh, mopping his brow. He sucks his handkerchief over. >> Mm-hmm. >> He says, uh, certainly. He stuff out into a hole. >> Okay. Um, I just, I basically want to give him an exam. >> And, uh-huh. >> Oh, you want to do the head thing now? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I want to give him an exam. Ask for a bunch of, uh, shrinky questions, and, um... >> I mean, he didn't call her a bitch. >> I know. >> Yeah, that's one last thing. >> That's very strong there. >> Yeah. >> That is. >> And his own family. >> It's not unusual. >> Especially in public company. >> Um, conflicted feelings about the female members of your family, and I, I want you to know before we discuss this that anything you tell me will be held in the strictest college. >> Okay. But it's important for me to discuss this with you, um, to find out, first of all, why you hold such animosity towards your grandmother. >> Certainly. >> Um, so he, he pulls the diary out of his pocket and he hands it to you. And he says, "Read this and you'll understand." >> Oh! >> Oh! >> Okay. >> Score. >> I will read this. >> Yes. [laughter] >> It's important that I know what you think about it. [laughter] >> Um, I just, I feel that my grandmother, um, I feel for her. She was, she was in an unhappy marriage. There could be no doubt about it. But I feel that, um, she was wrong to seal the room up and try to hide away the knowledge that my grandfather had gleaned. Um, even if the cost had been terrible for her on a personal level. [laughter] >> Um, okay, I will feel the bumps on his head now. [laughter] >> Oh, let me just use my... >> All right. It was good for knowledge. >> Well, that's just, I was thinking, what would you give her a successful for knowledge role, anyway? >> Yeah, not a whole lot, really. >> Um, he has a bumpy head. >> Well, the thing about it, I'm definitely going to come up with, like, an idea of what his character is. It's just not really going to have anything to do with you. >> All right. So I would say it would still fall under the rubric of a psychology role. It's just you think that the frontology is what's helping you, but it's really you talking to him. >> Okay. And I'll continue to discuss matters with him. Do you have any dreams that you have? >> Yeah, exactly. >> Right. >> There's a bump on you. Let me lo, but... >> Yeah. >> See, what's his fantasize about? [laughter] >> A good psychology role. All right. >> All right. >> Go ahead and take a check in psychology. >> All right. >> Well, I did sort of min-max this guy. [laughter] >> Okay. >> Probably. >> Yeah, basically the picture you get is of a sort of typically clueless young man who's probably in over his head, but wants to look kind of more important than he really is. He's very insecure. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> I'm going to try to call him down. >> I'm going to try to make him, you know, to bolster his confidence and to thank him for bringing this material to us. >> Mm-hmm. >> So he did the right thing and, I don't know, maybe suggest to him, but it's, of course, I think you can't really inner order, I mean. >> Yeah. >> I'm not even in the inner order. [laughter] >> This is going to be a bold chat. [laughter] >> So when you're saying that, he clearly is kind of looking at you with his sort of reverence. Like he's assuming you're probably like one of the queen's positions or something, you know. >> Oh my gosh. [laughter] >> Oh, really? Well, maybe I did overstep the bounce somewhat. But I will defer to your colleague, the EDI, as you call him. And I do know his real name, but I can't share that with you. Yes. I do know his real name, but he has sworn me to secrecy. I take it, but that's how things go in the order. >> Yes. Well, thank you for the head massage. [laughter] Now at this point, I might come out to get a breath of air. >> Yes. >> A little stuffy every morning. >> Yes. >> I'm, of course, curious if this room was sealed before your birth and your father informed you of your family's unfortunate history regarding it. Earth makes you think that you would be interested in involving yourself in the occult when you have no knowledge of it yourself as it is. Well, the fact of the matter is that I feel a deep connection to my grandfather. And I feel like I've been placed here to carry on his good work. It's just that it's a feeling that's beyond my conscious realization. >> Can I sort of sneak off to an area near a candle and just start studying this? >> Really, yes, yes. >> Sneaking. [laughter] >> Yes. Let's see. So it's about an inch thick. This is pretty much full. So it's going to take you a good few hours to read through it fully. But it's in a feminine hand. And you know, just sort of paging through it quickly. You see a lot of pretty juicy stuff, actually. Apparently she was kind of sleeping around herself. I mean, he was and she was. They were both doing it with others on a frequent basis everywhere they could. So, looks like you could read. [laughter] >> Check this in for some bedtime reading. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Go on a book. >> Yeah, go on a book. >> Yeah, go on a book. >> All right. So continuing to look around the room. So it's the library and that's it. >> DEDI has had Arthur send for a couple of servants to come up with boxes. >> Right. He's getting right to it. >> Yeah. We'll take it. >> So, and then he sort of steps out and, you know, well, I hope you understand. We need to take all the material out of this room to study it further. You know, Arthur's kind of like, oh. >> Oh. >> Fine. Now how long do you think, you know, and so forth, you know, talking. Talking out the terms basically. So you've got the folio. >> Yes. >> You've got the diarrhea. >> And the vial blood. >> And the sample. >> Of the liquid. >> Yes. >> Whatever it is. >> Laid. >> All right. >> Ugh. >> And anything else you guys wanted to do while you were here at the estate? >> No. >> I thought there were going to be like magical items. Not like just books. >> No. >> Really disappointed. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. Anything else that wasn't sealed up in the room was gotten rid of by. >> Apparently, yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. It was burned by great grandpa. >> No. >> No. >> No. >> I can't really think of anything else. Does it look like Gigi's going to let him into the order? >> Mm-hmm. >> We can call him like a private conference. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So he sort of nods to you all. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Meanwhile, Arthur started counting some shots of Brandy that he sent for. >> Good. >> And the muscular servant is still around, and several other servants have come up, and they're kind of whispering amongst themselves. >> Really? >> Yeah. Arthur kind of testively dismisses them. >> Mm-hmm. >> And so, you know, at that, he kind of wraps things up. Well, then, I suppose we'll be on our way. Lord Pelgrain, thank you for your kind hospitality. We will be back in touch with you as soon as we have had a chance to look over the materials here. And so, you know, Pelgrain, you know, kind of, again, just looks nervous about all this stuff being taken out. >> Mm-hmm. >> Fight this time. And with that, you exit the State House and the idea. >> Well, before we leave, could I ask, can I invite Lord Pelgrain to visit me in my office any time you would like? >> No, certainly. >> Presented with your card and so forth. >> Yes. >> Another head result. >> Yes. >> Oh, yes, thank you. Take another shot. >> Yes. >> And so, outside, just very briefly on the cobblestone courtyard. Indeed, I gather you all around. He says, "I will start going through these books. You all have some materials as well. As soon as we know more information, or as soon as you know more information, send me a letter by post. And we will arrange to meet and settle on the decision." >> Mm-hmm. >> And so, you all pack back into the Victoria Coach and head back into London Town. >> Very peculiar. >> Extra. >> Is that the strangest thing that you've ever seen? Because I'm still very haunted by it. I've never seen anything like that. >> It may be the strangest thing I've ever seen. I'm not going to admit that if it is. [laughter] >> Touching worse. >> Yeah. >> No, I can't find out. I mean, I don't know. I'm an explicit kind of person, but I just found that to be very strange. >> Yeah. >> That's unusual. >> It does better the imagination. We will have that sample looked at. >> See what exactly looks good on here. >> Okay. So, you know, one by one, you're all dropped off. Now, let's see here. Do those of you with reading material wish to start reading immediately? >> Yes. I would have to in order to get anywhere with it. >> Okay. Let's see. The journal... "Perhaps one day if I will tell you of what occurred to me in the crypt of the Santa del Crochet." >> Oh. >> There was an experience. >> I would love to hear about that. >> That's where you were in the Duomo. >> Some night. >> Okay. >> I'll take you up on that offer. >> Okay. So, you can skim the notes in just a couple hours. >> Okay. >> Doing a detailed analysis. We'll take you a total of 20 hours. >> Well, do we have the skill to do a detailed analysis of the material in the first place? >> You need to make a cult role as well as an English role to decipher the... >> Wait, an English role? >> Yes, to decipher the... >> Mm-hmm. >> The old... >> The writing. >> Oldiness? >> Well, they were personal notes for himself. So, he used a lot of abbreviations. >> Oh, interesting. >> Shorthandly. >> Oh, not exactly shorthand, but just abbreviations and sentence fragments. You know, there are just notes he was jotting down as he was working. >> Okay. >> So, in a couple hours, I can get a gist. >> Well, let's do that. >> Without any roles. >> Let's do that. Let's get a gist. >> Okay. >> The gist of the manuscript is that Thomas believed another world existed parallel to ours, and that it was from this world that all manifestations of the supernatural originated. His research led him to the astral plane, which was not what he expected it to be, but which was fascinating nonetheless. So his notes, you know, like I said, are mostly lab recordings and observations. He does digress, however, into a bit of petty gloating, and having sent, quote, that bastard Robert, into the ether, where, quote, "he met with the hungry ones and the thief of forms." >> Wow. >> Wow. >> Hellgrain also records the, quote, "true names of several beings of the ether whom he identifies as Zorlith, and Seria, Thurcif, and Nebuch. >> So is this Enochian? >> Possibly. >> Yeah. >> Yerik's. Repeat the name. >> Zorlith, and Staria, Thurcif, and Nebuch. >> Nebuch? >> Nebuch. >> Sounds like Enochian. >> Would we, would we be familiar with Enochian? >> I would. >> Yeah, like, yeah. You know, your, your occult studies. If you have anything more than based in the cult, you'd probably. >> I have nothing in the cult. >> I know what you're doing in the order. >> I don't know why. >> It's social. >> Yeah. >> It's a hobby. There was some liberated woman. >> I promised you everybody someday. >> Yeah. >> I'm a narc. >> Oh, no. >> No. >> I have my own reasons. >> Okay. Well, your occult will go up as you advance through your order. >> Exactly. >> Yeah, you can learn. >> Mm-hmm. >> That's true. You're just curious. >> Yeah. >> An excellent place to do that. >> Yeah, so, indeed. >> Okay. So, and then the diary. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> Now, the diary is much lengthier as I indicated. So, to do a straight, full read-through, we'll take you six hours. But you can skim it in three. >> Mm-hmm. It's Wednesday night. >> Mm-hmm. And you're home. Let's see. You headed out there. You got out there around sunset. So, it'll be about six. You're at a couple hours. So, you got home around 10.30. >> Do you have patience tomorrow? >> Nothing really need me. I haven't seen him for three days, though. I'll probably skim it tonight. >> Okay. I guess. >> So, from the book, you draw a very unpleasant picture of not only the volatile Thomas Pelgrain, but initially of Andrea Pelgrain as well. As I indicated, neither one seemed to be on their best behavior. Neither seemed to care very much for each other. The marriage seems to have occurred due to Andrea's cynical opportunism. Thomas was wealthy, and Andrea's family had some substantial debts. And Thomas's desire to own whatever he wished, in this case, Andrea. So, the picture that emerges is of a match made in hell. The two each carried on affairs during their honeymoon. >> Wow! >> And beyond. >> Wow. >> Each cultivating a stable of servants, male for Andrea, female for Thomas, to meet not only the needs of the estate, but their sexual needs as well. >> Oh, my! >> Naturally, these servants were soon divided into separate camps depending on which spouse they serviced. And the result was a thoroughly unpleasant household. >> Oh, God! >> Not to mention a shocking portrait of nobility in Britain. The color of the diary changes dramatically upon the hiring of Robert, a valet. >> Mm. >> For whatever reason, Andrea of hell brain found herself truly in love. The entries that follow his joining the estate and entering Andrea's bed are markedly different characters than those previous. >> Mm. >> It seems that for once in her life she had found someone worth loving. Andrea notes Thomas' interest in the occult only pattingly since she considers it beneath her notice and just another Thomas' inane hobbies. >> Mm. >> This changes drastically when Thomas appears out of thin air in the locked room in which Andrea and Robert are having a liaison and that Robert disappear. >> No! >> No! >> That incident, and Thomas' subsequent gloating over it, clearly unhinges Andrea. >> Yeah. >> She records her nervousness that he now watches her every move invisibly. The diary jumps from anti-Thomas diatribes to calm and loving memories of their engagement, which she writes, which she writes she eventually relates. Whenever she isn't positive that Thomas is otherwise engaged and cannot be spying on her from the ether as she writes. Andrea goes on to relate how whenever Thomas gets drunk and passes out she slips into his study and reads through his notes. Her goal it seems was to bring Robert back from the ether. The diary chronicles her growing comprehension of her husband's magical researches and her eventual attempt to bring Robert back to our reality using the first half of the spell title "The Taking and the Keeping." >> The taking of the keeping? >> Mm-hmm. >> This attempt was a horrific failure. >> Oh. >> The creature materialized the forest superficial resemblance to Robert but was clearly only a shade of him at best. >> Wow. >> This creature tore through the house to where Thomas lay intoxicated and dragged him kicking and screaming back to the study, killing three servants along the way. >> Whoa. >> There it did unspeakable things to him. >> Oh. >> And before along his corpse, while Andrea collapsed weeping in a corner. >> Wow. >> Her record of the event is very brief and disjointed reflecting her damage mental state. Apparently she did have enough presence of mind to utter the second half of the taking in the keeping, which were needed to send the thing back to the ether. However, she also says she does not believe she did it quite right and that she hopes the thing never returns. The last entry in the diary relates how she has ordered a servant to seal up the room for good. >> Mm-hmm. >> This entry is written, she explains while she waits for the carriage to take her to a better and happier place. >> Mm-hmm. >> This is a stronger and more loving world than that which I have known. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> For your troubles here? >> Yeah. >> For your troubles there, you get a point of a cult and lose one sanity. >> Oh. >> Oh, that's good. >> Yeah. >> Nice. >> Good job. >> Good job, everybody. >> Oh my gosh. We're right back. >> I can ask at this point if I'm assuming I know some real doctors. >> Right. >> Right. >> Do -- and then I guess at your discretion do I have any that I'm very friendly with that might know more about the chemistry that I do. >> Yeah. >> No. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> And it's very late at this point. >> Yes. >> I'm assuming I probably couldn't get a carriage. >> No, it's about one in the morning. >> Okay. >> I mean, you could always try, but -- >> Well, I think I'll contain myself and in the morning, I'll seek out one of these colleagues asking them to take a look at this file. >> Okay. >> Very good. Thank you. >> So anything else you guys want to do this evening? >> Yeah. >> You're reading the journal. >> Yeah. >> So I'm done. >> So you're home. Anything you want to do? >> Mm. Probably my father is still awake. I mentioned to him my -- >> Mm-hmm. >> -- just quiet at this whole situation. >> Mm-hmm. >> And I ask if you'd heard anything. >> Mm-hmm. >> I'm passing just gossip in regards to the family other than what he's already told me. >> So he listens with a sort of growing alarm. >> Yeah. >> And he says, "No, I certainly never had any indication that it's -- that there was that level of discord in that family." >> Mm-hmm. >> Does that have any reason to believe he's not telling you the truth? >> I think it's like all of your mouth. >> That's my mouth. >> Mm-hmm. >> I'm 23. I have five. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, man. Go, "Dad, you can trust him." >> Oh, really? >> No. >> Sorry. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Okay. >> Mm-hmm. >> Anything you want us to do with the rest of your evening? Inspect out. >> Um... I get up to my usual feelings and feelings in the evening. >> I think you're only passing out by anyone. >> Mm-hmm. [ Laughter ] >> If you want to call it that. >> Okay. Ah, yes. Heading out to the Gentleman's Club. >> Mm-hmm. >> Okay. Gotcha. Okay, very good. So, at this point, you all held up to bed and the night passes without anything. >> Yes. >> Oh, okay. >> However, I would now ask that -- let's see. Everyone accept Jen. Please retire to the office and shut the door. >> All right. Can you talk to me? [ Laughter ] >> Yes, the dog, too, please. >> Hello. >> Okay, hello. >> How did you do on your power tangelin roll? >> Ah, 53. My power was 10. >> Okay. >> Mm-hmm. So, you're waking in the morning and your eyes flick open and you realize that you are underneath your bed. >> Wow. Okay. >> You are lying on the floor in your night clothes as if you were lying on the bed and you're just right underneath it. >> Okay. >> Make a sandy roll. >> I just make it. >> All right. >> It's pretty good. So, you convince yourself that you probably fell out of bed and then roll back under it sometime in the night. >> Mm-hmm. >> Okay. >> Do you get sent for Jade, please? >> Yes. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> Okay. So, you're waking in the morning and you rise and make your way to the door of your bedroom where your servant is awaiting, you know, to see you down to breakfast. >> Of course. >> And you open the door and your servant sort of casts in the birth's eyes and you realize that you are naked. >> Oh, my goodness. >> And looking back, you see your nightgown lying on the bed exactly where you have been sleeping, like even with, you know, like their head of arms like this, as if you had just risen up out of your nightgown without disturbing it. >> Wow. >> Okay. >> And so with that, please, send for Bill. >> All right. [ Laughter ] >> Bill. >> Oh, okay. >> So when you wake in the morning, you are waking to discover that your sheets are bloody. >> Okay. >> The blood upon inspection seems to be welling up from your skin, almost like perspiration. >> Okay. >> There's no apparent wound. You can wipe the blood off the skin, but then it starts to beat up again. >> Okay. >> It's not a huge amount of blood, you know, but it was enough over a few hours to bloody your sheets, for example. And it doesn't seem to be going away. So go ahead and give me a sanity roll later. >> Okay. >> I failed. My sanity roll. >> So you lose two points. >> Okay. >> All right. Well, I was going to see a doctor friend of mine anyway. >> That's true. Now you have a legitimate excuse. >> So I guess that's something I could go do at that point? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Okay. So that's fine. And go ahead and send the desert. >> Okay. >> Oh, this one. >> Yeah. >> Okay. That's right. >> All right. >> She confused why she was watching. >> She was. >> Okay. >> All right. >> You can kind of hear a little bit. >> Okay. >> Oh. Well, did you hear anything important? >> No, I just heard. Now you have a legitimate, and we're like, whoa, whoa. >> Okay. >> Let's see. >> Let's see it over there. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Is this the end of the game? >> It could be. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So when you wake up. >> Yeah. >> You find that you can pick nothing up. >> I can't pick it up. >> No. You can't pick your bed clothes up to move them aside. >> I mean, it's heavy. >> You have to roll out. No. Your hands pass through. >> Oh. >> You literally can't. You go to pick something up and it's like you're missing it. >> Oh my God. >> Okay. >> When you do roll out of bed, you can't pick up a pitcher of water to bounce your face. >> Okay. >> You know, nothing like that. >> All right. >> It seems to start at the heel of your palm. >> Okay. >> And then the flesh becomes solid. >> But it's solid, but my hands are-- >> Put your hands or-- >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So go ahead and give me a sanity roll. >> I can't do this. I'm going to be able to reach in with. I make it. >> I don't have any. >> So how about that? >> I know. >> You only lose one point. >> Okay. >> All right. >> All right. >> That's it. >> Hold on. >> Okay. >> They're all in. >> They're all in. >> They're all in. >> They're all in. >> They're all in. >> They're all in. >> They're all in. >> They're all in. >> Yeah. >> They're all in. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Mm-hmm. >> So before I leave to do the thing I was going to do-- >> Yeah. >> I'm going to write a quick letter to matters, if I can. >> No, sure. >> And I'm going to explain--all I'm going to explain is if there were some books taken out of this house and that if he could exert his influence to let us take a look at these books later. >> Again. >> Okay. >> So you're going to keep the overall reason why they were taken out. >> Just going to say they were these books. >> They were these books. >> They were taken out. And me and my colleagues have a vested interest in reviewing them, and I would appreciate it if he would exert his influence, and by the way, save a load of your wife for me. >> Oh, God. >> Hope she's still not mad about the incident with puppy. >> About the thing with the thing. >> Okay. That's fine. So that gets dispatched in the post. >> Okay. >> And then you're off to consult your doctor friend. >> Yes. >> Yes. What else are you doing this morning? >> Oh. >> It's fine. Normal morning. [laughter] >> I'm trying to get dressed. >> Okay. Let's see. Do you have your middle class? Do you have like maybe one servant? >> Sure. >> Where are you by yourself? I mean, you're a bachelor, so you probably do. >> Yeah, I have like a cook, and I have like a man servant kind of, but not like an assistant. >> Yeah, he comes in in the mornings and he leaves at night. >> He like shines my shoes and organizes your paper. >> Exactly. Okay. So, yeah, you're having difficulty with that. >> Uh-huh. >> So you can call for him if you want. >> All right. His name is Dickers. >> Okay. >> Oh, so I call for Dickers. Dickers? Can you help? >> Is it the mustache, sir? [laughter] >> I got the marks just now. [laughter] >> Well, I made me talk about that later, but I need some help with my attire this morning. I seem to develop some type of a weakness. >> I don't have a little late last night. >> Oh, yes, yes, yes. >> Not in my business. >> Well, I'll watch you last night. >> So he... [laughter] >> Oh, you bastard. So, can you help me? >> Why are you right there? >> I know. I'm fully able to need your help. I need some help donning my garments. >> Okay. So he, uh, fine, very well. He starts to help you out there. >> Uh-huh. >> How about the two of you? >> I would probably... [laughter] >> Try to think about how I would handle this situation. Certain levels embarrassment? >> Yes. >> Yes. >> Uh-oh. >> It'd probably be very flustered going down to breakfast. I wouldn't really want to discuss, like, how I slept. >> My father's. >> Yep. Everything's fine. >> Everything's great. >> Everything's great. Thanks for asking. >> Oh, dear. >> My tea. Oh, my appointments. >> Thank you. >> Kippers, yes. >> Yes. No kippers. You need kippers. >> Oh, that's true, right? >> Blood pudding. >> Blood pudding. [laughter] >> Oh, yeah. >> Oh, I don't know. I don't know. [laughter] >> Oh! [laughter] >> Oh! [laughter] >> Just those talents. Test pointers, all. >> Thank you. >> I'm going to draw up a lesson plan for some students that I was asked to consult on. I'm going to write Florence a letter in which I talk about the lesson plan with her to see the lesson plan, which thinks the lesson plan. And then in passing, giving it no importance, I'll tell her a little bit about something that happened last night. >> Mm-hmm. [laughter] >> Oh, by the by. All right. So, let's see. Do you intend to go off to work? >> No, I'm going to send a letter. I'm going to send a letter. >> Have Vickers send something indicating I'm unwell, and I will not be at work. >> Okay. All righty. So, within the hour, the effect goes away. >> I'm still unclear. I'm going to go talk to Padma. No, actually, I'm going to talk to Dr. Hugh. >> Okay. Meanwhile, Dr. You're off to see your colleague. >> Uh-oh. >> Probably wearing plenty of layers. >> Yes. >> What? [laughter] >> I'm looking to be, I made no arrangements for my clients today or my patients today. So, what I imagined, given what I saw, I might have just actually flapped without doing so. >> Probably. >> Probably, yeah. >> Probably. There probably used to be sort of hijinks, maybe. >> Goddamn it. I really need to find a better doctor. >> Why do I keep seeing this one? [laughter] >> Actually, it's right. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> Okay. So, yeah, you've got an old med school buddy over at the University of London. You know, he's a sort of junior professor at the medical school. >> Okay. >> And I'm aware that he's a real doctor. >> Yes. >> He's studied more mundane things. >> Yes. He's considered a rising star in the anatomy field. >> Okay. We'll call him Charles. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, I can get in to see Charles. Hold on a second. >> Hi. >> Hi, more. >> Hi. >> Hi. >> Okay. Can I get in to see him? >> Yes. He's just teaching classes at the afternoon. >> Okay. >> He'll see you right away. >> Okay. Charles, I have a need of some of your expertise in these somewhat mundane and base matters. I was hoping... >> Oh, my God! >> You could help me out with that. First of all, this vial of material that appears to be blood. >> Yes. >> Has it congealed since last night? >> It has. >> Well, nonetheless, I'd like for you to take a look at it. >> So, yeah. >> Oh, yeah. I was thinking maybe you could do one of those things you do where you look at it, you know, with one of those things. [ Laughter ] >> Any records? >> Yes. [ Laughter ] >> Very good. And make sure for me that it's human. You see I have a patient who has some strange delusions and they aren't sure. They brought this to me with a rather fantastic story and I wanted to be able to come back and I consulted with a colleague and told them that it was able to tell them with authority that it's indeed just human blood and not what they think it is. >> I see. Yes, these things do come up. But you want to seal your vials better in the future, old chap. Looks like you've got some on your hand. >> Well, that's the other thing I wanted to talk to you about. >> Okay. >> I have a strange condition this morning that's manifesting itself. I was wondering if you would, in confidence, please, Charles. [ Laughter ] >> Tell me why it is that I am perspiring blood. >> Oh! >> So he kind of, you know, sees like little, you know, pinhole-sized stains on his head. He's like, "Good God, man." So he has you, you know, disrobe and get up on the examining table. And, you know, takes your vitals and has to, like, wipe some off the back to do the stuff at scope, you know. And, you know, it seems to be coming out even if I wipe it off. >> I've been working very hard. [ Laughter ] No one I know in medical literature has ever worked so hard, they sweat blood. >> Not yet. [ Laughter ] >> It will be first, tell me. I don't remember. I remember, Catholic. [ Laughter ] >> No, this guy's Protestant. >> He's a good old Anglican. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Well, that's a shame. I'm sure the Pope would be most interested to hear about this case of stigmata. >> Well, that's a rather universal case of stigmata. >> It certainly is. >> Although, I'm sure I've read that. It was only given three blocks. I'm sure I've read some cases that did come out over the whole body. If you give me a day, I'm sure I can research this a bit more. I'll consult with some other colleagues. You know, strictness of confidence, of course. >> All right. Not that, you know, it's a poor idea for me to treat myself, even though, indeed, I think, as the saying goes. >> Yes. >> So, I was wondering if you had any ideas as to how I could stop sweating blood. [ Laughter ] You know, this is an incredibly unusual case. I hardly need to tell you. And I suppose just continue to drink lots of fluids and maybe eat a steak. If you're going to feel faint, by all means, light out. But-- >> Can I use your hydrotherapy lab? >> Certainly. It's going to contaminate it. [ Laughter ] >> Yeah. We'll have to scrub it then, actually. [ Laughter ] Very well. So, you wanted to go see-- >> Well, I thought about seeing Dr. Hume. >> Oh, right. So, you go by the doctors and-- >> Not there. >> -- his beleaguered front desk receptionist. [ Laughter ] It informs you that the doctors fail to show up. And, you know, if you just leave your car, you will get back to you as soon as you can. >> I will. But I'm going to go check each other. >> So, you hail a handsome and are taking-- not too far over to New Hyde Park and the townhouse slash-- >> Oh, my! >> -- and a tea shop of-- >> Yeah. Bling, bling, bling, bling. >> Hi. Hi. Hi. I'm Spencer. >> Hi. >> How can I help you? >> Well, I-- it's very strange. Is there anyone else here? >> No. I'm a lot of-- between appointments and clubs. >> Oh, well, I appreciate you seeing me. I woke up this morning with a very strange sensation in my body. Inspector, I'm not sure I'm the prisoner. [ Laughter ] Please don't fall in love with me. [ Laughter ] I make it hard at every point. Trust me, this is very above board. I had no feeling in my hands. I felt as though my hands were invisible. I-- everything went through my hands and the effect stopped about an hour ago. But-- and now I-- [ Laughter ] >> Oh, my gosh! >> It really got the right background. You're going. [ Laughter ] >> What the remote? >> I don't know. >> So, um, it was just a very-- a very clear sensation. And I-- I'm not sure if you experienced anything strange last night or this morning, but I had a very strange peculiar experience and I needed to share it with somebody. >> Um, well? No, nothing unusual. [ Laughter ] >> They call it your all. >> Really? Don't say. I mean-- >> Which is fair. >> It made a friend to a fluttery sweater. [ Laughter ] >> Oh! >> It made it. >> That's a critical, actually. Go ahead and check your sight. >> So, I'm kind of looking at you. Like, are you sure? >> I'm glad I'm lying. >> Now, you did say your hands felt invisible. >> It felt transparent. I couldn't grip anything. >> Yeah. >> I couldn't even get dressed this morning. My-- my man, sir, and vicar's had to dress me. >> A little vicar's? >> It helped me urinate. [ Laughter ] >> I make it burn. I make it burn, but-- >> He had to hold the people. [ Laughter ] >> Oh, man. [ Laughter ] >> Oh, my. [ Laughter ] >> So, I can tell you-- >> You can tell it just simply passed through your-- >> Yes, Madam, and I can tell that something strange has happened to you, too. >> Well, you're kind of in the necessary-- >> The fact that you did mention transparency is interesting, but-- [ Laughter ] >> You can tell me. >> I-- >> I've heard and seen almost everything, except for blood in a sealed room. >> I was an assistant agent to the secondary investigator on the river murders, you know. >> Yeah. [ Laughter ] >> Well, exactly. [ Laughter ] >> I must admit, I don't have an experience this morning to where a certain level of transparency was noted. >> How are you feeling now? >> Excellent. I did not notice it myself. It was pointed out to me. >> Oh, my. >> Oh, yes. [ Laughter ] >> My lady, of course. >> Uh-huh. >> Oh, wow. >> Well, I'm-- >> Without going into further detail, obviously, you know. But this is very strange. I think we should contact Celestia and just see if she's okay. >> I-- >> I tried to talk to Dr. Hume, but he was out. >> I would agree. I think that perhaps if both of us have experienced something unusual this morning. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Let me call from that carriage. >> Okay. >> Very good. >> Absolutely. >> Celestia's. All right. >> Okay. So, quick carriage ride. You're at home, crawling your letters. >> I'm scrolling away. >> Okay. So, yes. >> A little Scotty and holding my little Scotty back. Oh, my. [ Laughter ] >> All right. You picture it perfectly. >> Come in, come in. We'll make some tea. >> Sure. >> So, what brings you here? >> Well-- >> Well, that's Celestia to put it delicately. The inspector and I seemed to have both experienced some rather unusual effects upon our persons this morning. And we couldn't help but wonder if you yourself experienced anything unusual earlier today. >> Oh, I can't say that I did. >> No, I slept rather strangely. But, aside from that-- >> I don't have any weird dreams. >> Not that I can recall. >> Well, to put it bluntly, I didn't have the use of my hands upon waking and objects seem to go through my hands. >> Wait a moment now. >> Yes. >> Were you able to grip things? >> No. >> You were unable to grip things. >> I couldn't hold anything. I couldn't pull the covers back from-- >> I was like, "Vickers!" >> You're good? >> It's all dawning on me now. >> I'm sorry, I just couldn't have learned you in a night gown, but still with the bowler hat on. >> You're good. >> And so, I wasn't able to grip anything of substance. It's like my hands are in substantial. >> Horrible experience. >> It was terrifying. And thankfully, the effects have worn off. And I can now use them. But I don't know if this is going to be a recurring thing. I don't know if you've heard of anything like this happening. >> I've never heard of it. >> And apparently something happened to Padmas. But she didn't want to explain it, which I understand. I could leave the room a few ladies would like to discuss it between yourselves. >> Well, yes, please. [laughter] >> So, I took my hat and off I go to wait outside. And I'll play with the doggy. >> No, this is last year. As a lady to another lady. >> Oh, my. >> I did not notice it myself, but was informed by my needs or event. This morning, I seem to have experienced a certain amount of invisibility myself, shall you say. >> Well, somehow, I seem to have arisen from bed and left all of my night clothes behind. [laughter] >> Do you mean to say, when you awoke, the bed clothes were on the bed as if you had been laying in them? >> Exactly as I was laying in them. I got up and I was awoken for a breakfast and seemed to have left them behind. I understood, which I did not notice and did not experience one afterwards. >> Oh, my. Oh, my. >> Yes, well, as I said, it was pointed out to me. >> Oh, dear. You didn't feel draft. [laughter] >> Well, I mean, it is kept quite toasty with all times. That is awkward. >> It was, indeed, an unusual experience. I could not help but wonder if you have ever experienced anything similar. >> Well, since you've mentioned the bed, it does jog my memory that I did wake up this morning underneath the bed. >> What? You're right. >> What? Why was it underneath the bed? >> Actually, you're outside. A private courier is coming up the street. You're just kind of standing on the front wall, maybe having a smoke or whatever. And the courier stops at the low gate and says, I have a delivery for Aslesia Adams? >> Yep, yes. >> Are you able to take that? >> Oh, yes. I'm visiting the lady. I can take that package. >> It's actually just an envelope. >> Okay. >> So, you need to hand it to you and you can sign off. >> I can hold the pen. >> Oh, sweet. [laughter] >> And I think it was this. >> Okay. >> Sweet chorice. >> All right. >> Then you sign off on it. Fully holding the pen. >> Good. >> It's a good feeling. >> All right. Oh, no. >> Okay. >> It's a return address, say. >> The -- >> Scan-less. >> I'm an inspector. >> Yes. >> I'm a suspecting. >> Yes, you do. >> It is an address in St. John's Wood. It's not familiar to you. >> I know that's not fun for my life. >> No. >> Okay. Enough, enough, enough. The courier came and delivered this. Can they come in? >> Yes, please come in, Pike. Come in. >> It's all right. Handy the envelope. >> Okay. >> Smelly envelope. >> Oh, you know the perfume immediately. I'll read this later. >> Oh, my. >> Actually -- >> No, should I read it now? >> Well, as you, you know, just flip it open to confirm it's from her. You see that she's written urgent across. >> Oh, okay. >> Psychology? >> Sure. >> Go make it. >> Okay. >> I noticed you noticing you're wanting to sniff the envelope. >> Mm-hmm. >> There's much sniffing going on. >> Perhaps a bit odd. Well, you can't be too careful these days. So, I see the urgent, so I get my letter opener from the desk and I sit down and it'll open the letter. >> Urgent, urgent. Remember, urgent. This is urgent. I'm doing it right now, aren't I? >> I'm doing it in urgent. >> All right. So -- >> What was it saying? >> What's your motto again? >> Abyssus, Abyssumx, M-O. >> So, G-R-A-A-E. >> A. >> A. >> A. >> A. >> A. >> A. >> A. >> A. >> I am writing this on behalf of the EDI. He wishes to meet with you and your associates at your earliest convenience at the address given on the back of this envelope. >> Okay. >> It's while you open up the letter. >> It's in theory, SSEDD. >> All right. Turning it around. >> Not happy read it aloud or happy read it privately too. >> I read it privately to myself. >> Okay. >> Turning it around, I'm looking at the address and I'm saying teammates. >> Super friends. >> Is everything all over it? >> Super friends. >> What's going on? >> I have received a communique from Florence Far asking us to meet with DD at our earliest convenience at this address. >> Oh, well. >> My camera is just waiting outside. >> Yeah. >> We find the doctor first. >> We should try. >> We should know. >> We should go ahead. >> This will take us up to about when your appointment is ending. >> Okay. >> Charles. >> Timor. >> Dr. Timor. >> So, his symptoms are continuing. >> Yours are continuing. >> Yeah, and he says there's a simple test I can run to determine if this is human blood, but it takes a few hours to come out. So, I will send a letter to your home address with any information I find as I find it. >> All right. Okay. Thank you, Charles, and say hello to your wife. >> She still hates you. >> I love that idea. >> So, at which point would you return to your office? >> I would go back to my, I would go back to my, I imagine I would drop by my office, if only just to say cancel my appointment. Quickly stick my head in and say that I'm engaged in a vitally important matter of research, and that you should make arrangements for my patients to see a lesser colleague. >> You're famous lesser colleague. >> Yeah. >> And so, your secretary. >> I'm picturing these calls, like the patients coming out with us calling them. >> Wow. I have like a clear-cut answer now. >> He was really good. >> Well, we can't all see the doubt. >> Yeah. >> So, your secretary. >> Very well, sir. But a man from the Scotland Yard was by the CEO. >> Well, probably just be sticking my head in, because I imagine. >> Oh, sure. >> But he's sort of like, you know, Scotland Yard was here, sir. All right, well, welcome to the door, put the card down, walk away, and then turn around. [ Laughter ] >> He tells me he couldn't do that on use. >> He wouldn't be. >> Yeah, he's kind of being here. He's like, "Well, all right, sir." >> Yes, sir. >> Yes, sir. >> Yes, sir. >> Yes, sir. >> General infectious disease protocol, yes. >> Yes. Yes, that's it. Exactly. [ Laughter ] >> Of course, that's what I meant. Okay, so I'll get the card and it just says that Inspector-- >> Pike. >> Saviour, Pike. Okay. That is your first name. >> Leslie. >> Leslie Pike. You know, I'm going to go home at this point, because I imagine I'm a little disturbed by this, and also I think, and if I go looking for these people and they're looking for you, that's not going to work so well. >> Yeah, that's right. So I'm going to go home and buy the house and make a great meal. [ Laughter ] >> You think simple, fresh ingredients? >> Stake. >> Yeah. Maybe Stake's are far even, just get it right in there. >> Yeah, man. >> And I'll just assume that my colleagues will come by at some point. >> Okay, I imagine we would probably take the carriage over to his office first, if he's right. >> Mm-hmm. >> You find his secretary still facing the corner. [ Laughter ] >> That's all about. >> That's odd. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> He's back at his desk, and he says, "Oh, yes, the doctor is not well, and he's canceled his appointments for the day." >> Uh-huh. >> Shall we call it? >> He's not well. >> Yes, yes. >> Mm-hmm. >> Let's go. >> All right. >> So, yes, you're just polishing off your steak tartar. >> Okay. >> When they arrive. >> Well, I'll open the door and get them. >> Mm-hmm. >> Get them, come in, please. >> Come on, you look unwell. [ Laughter ] >> I've been working very hard. [ Laughter ] >> Are you good? >> All right. >> Am I feeling any effects from this? >> I don't know. >> I actually know. You're feeling fully normal. >> Other than that. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, but spot hit rolls from everyone. >> Mm-hmm. >> Me? >> Fail, fail. >> No, they're spotting you. >> Fail three. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> You all bail? >> Yeah. >> Okay, so, yeah. So, you're bundled up nicely enough. They don't see any of it a little longer. >> But not even on the space? >> He's not bleeding up the face. It's just like arms torso legs, basically. No hands, no feet, no face. >> All right. I'm sorry that you're not well. >> Well, it's been trying. >> Um, I've thought. >> Yes. >> It's, I really, I give a lot of myself. >> Yes. >> I do, and it's rewarding work, but very-- >> Takes its turn. >> Dating. [laughter] >> Well done. >> Well, we received a correspondence from Florence Far. >> Yes, telling us to call up on Dee Dee. >> Yes. >> As soon as possible. >> As soon as possible. >> Do you feel up to be willing to-- >> I think seeing Dee Dee was a great idea. >> Awesome. [laughter] >> I have so many questions for him. [laughter] >> All right. >> All right. So, uh, off we go. >> Okay. So, um-- >> Clippity Cloppity. >> Yes. So, uh, you make your way through the London traffic to St. John's Wood. And, um, a, um, modest but, uh, well-appointed townhouse belongs to any street address you were given. And, uh, you were shown in, um, to a sort of day room by a, um, a servant, and they're in Wake's Dee Dee. And he greets you. You know, looks, uh, much the same as you remember him. However, his left hand is an advantage. >> Mm-hmm. >> Um, hmm. >> And he definitely looks a bit, uh, agitated. >> Mm-hmm. >> Um, okay. That's urgent. >> Yeah. And, uh, he keeps kind of, like, glancing around. >> All right. >> Oh, gee. >> Mm-hmm. >> Ah. Thank you so much for coming out. Um, yeah. >> Oh, what the-- >> Uh, tell me, have you all had any, uh, strange, uh, experiences tonight? >> Have we? [laughter] >> Yes, indeed. Um, when I awoke, my hands were, uh, not able to grip anything. They moved through items as though they were made of air. >> Excuse me. >> What is wrong with you? >> Uh, all morning. Have any of you experienced this all morning? I've been seeing things. >> Oh, no. >> Creatures. >> No. >> Creatures. >> Yes, they drift through the rooms, oblivious. >> Really? >> Have you done the pentagram ritual? >> I have not. I think we must return to the Calgary and the state and, uh, conduct that upon the, uh, the sealed room at once. >> Yes. >> Mm-hmm. >> Just because, uh, just this morning, as I was eating my breakfast, as well as I could, one of the creatures seemed to see me. >> No! >> Oh, it fit my hand. >> Oh! >> No! >> Okay. >> This is not good. >> No. >> Oh, no. [ Laughter ] >> It comes in a very bad time because I'm suffering from an unrelated medical condition. [ Laughter ] >> Are you sure it's unrelated? [ Laughter ] >> Look who you're asking. Okay, I'll be there. Oh. [ Laughter ] >> I am meeting a little. >> Oh. [ Laughter ] >> Nobody. >> Oh, dear. >> Oh, dear. >> Uh, very well. Um, I think, uh, without any delay then? >> Yes. >> Let's go. >> Yes, let's, let's, let's go. >> Okay. >> Oh, that should be asked for some help from anyone else. Ms. Florence Farfrenson. >> Um, I would, uh... >> It's just us. >> I would prefer to, to, um, keep anyone who was not at the estate without any further dealing. >> Uh, yes. >> Unless they suffer similar... >> That's right. >> -- exposure effects. >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So, um, yes. Do you have a carriage then? >> Yes. >> Mm-hmm. So, um... >> Mm-hmm. >> The, uh, the carriage conveys you back out towards Laitons. It's a, uh, once again, a pleasant, uh, pleasant morning, um, with no sign of rain or bad weather. Yeah, there is a sense of foreboding, sort of, hanging over the carriage ride for all of the stations. Um, during the ride, Dr., um, you know, you've sort of been surreptitiously lifting your cup to kind of check things. And, about halfway through the ride, you sort of ascertained. It seems like the blood has stopped. >> Uh-huh. >> Um, but, you know, your, your clothes are now nicely stained, but, you know, you're not seeing anything fresh coming up. >> Okay. >> Do I notice him checking? >> Slide it. >> Fail. Fail. Fail. Fail. Fail. >> Pass. >> Pass. >> Pass. >> Yeah. >> You notice him kind of doing this. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Everyone else is rolling out on the roll too. >> I'm going to get it on that. >> Um, so I'm going to check. So, um, how are your symptoms, Dr.? >> Um, I am feeling better. I, uh, thank you for your concern. I have it under control. >> Okay. All right. >> Fortunately, I'm uniquely equipped to handle this sort of problem. >> Okay. >> And what way are you uniquely equipped? >> Good board, man. I'm a physician. >> Oh, I'm sorry. Excuse my inheritance. Um, uh, DEDI, um, how are you doing in terms of, are you still seeing things while we're writing in this carriage? >> Um, he's been writing with his eyes closed most of the time. >> Wow. >> Okay. And, and so he says, I dare not look. >> Mm-hmm. >> Mm-hmm. >> Well, the, the good doctors issue seems to have cleared up. And mine resolved fairly quickly. Perhaps, maybe, if you attempt to look, maybe. >> He, uh, he opens his eyes and kind of looks around. And yes, I think, uh, well, I don't see anything here at least. >> How was your hand doing? >> Mm-hmm. >> Um, yeah. >> Perhaps the doctor should-- >> Could I ask to examine this answer? >> Certainly. So he undoes the bandage. And, uh, basically what you see is on the webbing here. It looks like, for all the world, like a lamprey bite. >> Oh. >> It's like a circular mouth. >> Yeah. >> Can I do a first aid role to see if I can match that up? >> Actually, first aid is about two minutes. >> Mm-hmm. >> I hit right at it. >> Okay, that, that'll do it. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right, so, uh, you happen to have a salve on you. But you're able, you know, you can rub on his hand. And, oh, yes, that helps him. And he'll come for you or something. So, another half hour passes by. You reach late and then you pull off down the side lane. It's going to take you out towards the estate. Again, you come around the curb. You can see the estate up ahead. This time, daylight is still there. >> Oh, it's like, it's burnt to the ground. [ Laughter ] >> There's no, you know, skull hovering above it. >> Right. [ Laughter ] >> A tiny skull. >> A tiny skull. >> A tiny skull. [ Laughter ] >> Oh, that's creepy. >> It's a bird? >> Isn't it? It's just a human skull. [ Laughter ] >> What are you looking at? >> Um, actually, as you get closer though, as the carriage kind of comes up around the drive, looking out of the windows of the carriage, you can see that one of the second story windows has been smashed out. >> Oh, dear. >> There are curtains kind of billowing out. And about 15 feet from the front of the house directly below the smashed window lies a body. >> Oh. >> It is a woman's body wearing servants' clothes. >> Oh, dear. >> Mm-hmm. >> Laying face down in the grass. >> Oh, my goodness. So I'll rush to her to see if she's still alive. >> Okay. >> It looks like a crime scene. >> As you come up, you can see her neck is broken. >> Oh. >> You can see her face and arms are covered in dozens of the same types of bites that you saw. >> Oh. >> Oh. >> And that her eyes seem to have been eaten out. >> Oh, dear. >> Give me a sanity roll, please. >> Why do I always find the way? [ Laughter ] >> I make it. Ah. >> You lose one point. >> Damn it. >> I've already lost. >> I'll examine her as well. >> I don't know. I probably would decide so. >> You can stand well there. >> Oh, man. >> Okay. You lose one point, please. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So she seems to have died from the fall. The broken neck. >> Not the eyes. >> Not the eyes. >> Not the eyes. >> Not losing their eyes. >> Not smarts, but it doesn't kill. >> Right. >> Yeah. >> And the body seems relatively fresh. >> I'm looking at the window. Carefully looking at the window. Is there anything there? >> I have to see if anyone else is around. >> Is there anybody looking to? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> No, there's no one at that window. There's no one outside. >> Oh, dear. Up to the door. This is new. This just happened. >> Relatively fresh. Maybe in the last hour. >> Oh, my God. No one's come out here. They haven't heard the commotion. [ Laughter ] >> Exactly. >> So you do the brass knocker. >> Did he actually remember maybe too late? >> There's this. >> So several knocks bring no -- >> No. >> No. >> No. >> Can we open the door? >> Mm-hmm. >> Open it up. >> Okay. So you're seeing the entryway ahead of you. There's the staircase at the end. There's, you know, you know, there's the parlor on the right. But a bizarre sight greets you immediately as you throw the door open and the daylight floods into the darkened hall. Dangling before you from the ceiling is a man's arm. But it's emerging from the ceiling, like, perfectly as if it was, like, plastered around. >> Oh, my God. >> Uh, sanity roll for that, please. >> Oh, yeah. Come on. I make it. >> I make it too. I don't know how to make it. >> All right. >> I made it. >> Okay. Everyone lose one point. >> I don't see the most sanity of this, I think. That's four points. >> You do see a ring on the hand. >> Mm-hmm. >> Does it look familiar? >> Uh, do you want to go up and mess again? >> Yeah. >> Let me go up and look. >> It's a, it's a significant ring with the pelt ring family close on it. As you're, as you're kind of, like, right up close, like, right up next to the hand. >> Oh! >> Uh, well, what's, what's above and the ceiling? >> It's just the only room. >> No, I mean, like, what room is above? >> Yeah. >> You want to tumble up the stairs and go find us. >> That would be the question. >> All right, let's go. >> That would be the question. >> There's the rest of them. >> So the signet ring looks like, you know, T-T-A pelt rings. >> Yes. >> Exactly. >> It's a man's hand. >> And it is a man's hand. >> And a young man's hand. >> Oh, no. >> All right. So rushing forward, you see about halfway up the stairs is the body of another servant. This time a man. >> It's the second one. >> It's the sledgehammer guy. >> Oh! >> Oh! >> Okay. >> All investigate. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So he actually seems to be fairly unscathed. >> Unscathed. >> Unscathed, exactly. >> Is he conscious? >> No, he's dead. He's definitely dead. >> Oh. >> And he's lying kind of like on the length of the stairs of his head facing down. >> Uh-huh. >> And his mouth's kind of gaping open. >> Uh-huh. >> And so as you've been to investigate a bloody mass shoots out of the mouth. >> No! >> Okay. >> Uh-huh. >> You see, you get a brief impression of a sort of circular toothy mug coming at you. >> Okay. >> So give me a sanity roll there, please. >> Oh my God. >> I failed my sanity roll. >> Oh. >> Get okay? >> He's lying close on me. >> Two points. >> Two points? >> One pencil. >> Yeah. It might be better. >> Four? >> Yeah. Four points. >> Four points. >> Four points. >> All right. Well? >> Well? >> However, it kind of shoots past you. >> Stop! >> Like, kind of over your shoulder. Like, it was launching itself so forcefully. So the rest of you see this, like, basically four-foot-long lamprey, like, feature, kind of fly out over the doctor's shoulder and it's just covered in blood and gore. >> Oh. >> So, sanity rolls around. >> Oh, my God. Okay. I have a club, though. I have a club. >> I have a club. >> I fail. >> Oh, I fail. 96. >> I am way-made. >> All right. One point for you. Four points for you. >> I failed too. >> And one point for the insect. >> Interesting. Okay. So, I have a club on me. >> And revolver, I'd say. >> I do have a hand gun. >> And actually, I am also packing. >> Oh! [laughter] >> I came prepared. >> I saw something small. >> Yeah. >> Slight. So I decided hand gun skill is not a good thing to have. >> Definitely. >> True. >> Because I'm not very strong. Right. Nor am I near. >> Gun in the purse there. >> Mm-hmm. >> I'm totally unprepared for this. [laughter] >> All right. >> Whoa. >> Whoa. >> Whoa. >> Whoa. >> Well, that's definitely Dee Dee. Was that similar to what you saw earlier? >> Well, basically, the thing has launched itself over the laughter shoulder, hit the ground, and then rebound it up and is actually kind of flying through the air. >> Oh! >> Trailing gore. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Ladies and brothers at the ready. [laughter] >> So, yeah, Dee Dee, he sort of, he sort of, like, "Yes, that is one of the creatures I saw." >> Okay. >> This is given physical form, though. How is that possible? >> I'm going to put my gun in it. >> Are you in it? >> I'm probably going to put mine out, too. >> Yeah, the second one is out. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> All right, be hard to hit. >> Yeah, let's try. >> Way to go, too. >> So bad. >> I'm going to, too. >> Yeah. >> I make it. >> Yes! >> I make it. >> Nice. >> I also make it. >> Oh, very good. All right. So you're doing a 38. You're probably talking a little derringer or something, I imagine, right? >> Something cute, too. >> Okay. D10, damage. >> Oh. >> Where's my D10? >> Oh. >> Where's this one? >> Okay. >> D6. >> Okay. >> And a D6. AKA normal vice. >> Three. >> Nice. >> Okay, nine points all together. >> Yes. >> All right. So you're going to be like, "Ah!" >> And the two bullets hit it, and it just kind of like, you know, kind of separates into three parts, and then they all just kind of fall the ground and hit with this sort of rubbery slapping sound. >> So I have my club on me, and I purchased the rubbery. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I'm going to club that shit. >> Yeah. >> Can you get to a segment of this to sort of try to preserve it? >> Oh, yeah, certainly. >> Before we funnel it. >> Before you turn it into a jelly deal. >> Yeah. Well, now I'm going to see if it's moving. It's not moving. >> No, it's just lying. >> Isn't re-enweating? >> No. >> I might be crawling up behind you with my adorable gun. But I feel you behind me, and I go, "Next shot." >> Oh. >> Oh. >> That really does what she can. >> I'd really suggest that we now might be a really good time to do the banishing ritual. >> Yeah. >> To do a penogram ritual. >> That would be a good idea. >> I think maybe before we look elsewhere in the house. [laughter] >> That's a great idea. But if the hand is twitching, there's a chance he might still be alive, that's true. >> He is definitely alive. >> Uh-oh. >> Then he needs our help. >> Yeah. >> He needs to help him. >> Okay. So, shall we go look for him, and some of you are going to do the banishing ritual, or are you all staying together? >> Um, my language was all staying together. We should all stay together in the banishing ritual together, and then look for him. >> Okay. >> I have a long name. >> I have a long name. >> How long is the banishing ritual? >> Yeah, how long does it take? >> Not very long. >> All right. All right. Let's do that. >> Although, do we need to go to the secret room to do that? >> That would be the point. >> That would be the point. >> Yeah. >> Uh, yes. I believe that we should perform it in the room itself. >> Okay. >> Wow, we shot that thing out of the air. >> Boldly. >> Oh, yeah. >> I know. I'm like, whoo! That's so rare. That doesn't really suck at everything. >> Yeah. >> No, that doesn't happen that easily. >> No. >> Okay. So, off we go to the room. >> Okay. So, you all hustle up the stairs. There's enough ambient light coming in through open windows and doors that you can find your way to the formerly sealed room. The plaster is still a hole in the plaster wall and the door is sort of halfway open. And from beyond, you hear this weird sort of flapping buzzing sound. >> Oh, dear. Oh, dear, oh, dear, oh, dear. Is that the ready, sir? >> Mm-hmm. >> All right. >> I did. >> Open the door. >> Mm-hmm. All right. So, you see beyond that the room is now filled with a swarm, essentially. Of dozens of tiny beasts, the size of shrimp. They're just sort of buzzing and flapping around in this weird kind of random pattern. They don't seem to be coming after you, but then again you have an intro to the room yet. So, we have to go in there to do this ritual. Yes. >> Wow. >> Let's go. They really need things. >> They're going to get angry. >> Distraction. Because what happened to the poor lady down below? >> Oh, tablecloths for everybody. We should go up. >> Okay. Some things. >> Some that will work ourselves. >> Okay. >> Shield or something. >> Okay. Yeah. Like some blankets. >> Like it's sure sheets, anything. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> We're going to cover ourselves in these cloaks. >> Okay. >> So, you sort of ransacked some of the adjoining rooms and there's, of course, guest bedrooms, that sort of thing. So, you find plenty of sheets and blankets and that sort of thing. >> While we're getting this, can I ask, did he exactly how much of a bump we're going to get? [ Laughter ] >> So, when we look at that. >> I mean, it's hilarious. >> It's hilarious. It's fantastic. >> It's fantastic. >> Yeah. >> Oh, my God. >> The order will look very, well, I should say I will look very well upon your progress through the order. So far, what I've seen here in the last 12 hours is something that I'm not sure even other members of the inner order are prepared to experience. >> Oh, goodness. >> Oh, okay. All right, then. So, let's do our best. >> So, DDI gets his armor on. >> Yeah. >> He says, "I shall lead the way. I know a more advanced form of the pentagram ritual known as the hexagram ritual. I shall perform the ritual." [ Laughter ] >> Sounds fishy. >> Really? >> Really? >> Do the octagon ritual. >> The octagon ritual. >> Into the octagon. [ Laughter ] I ask only that you do your best to keep any malevolent forces from interrupting my... >> You're sure? >> Of course. >> Yeah, of course. >> Definitely. >> Sort of broom or something. >> Mm-hmm. >> Maybe swing at these. >> Sure, yeah. You find a broom in a utility closet upstairs. >> Okay. >> So, we'll be covered in sheets and stuff. >> Mm-hmm. >> And cover him to make sure we stand all around him. >> Mm-hmm. >> To make sure that we can deflect those, whatever they are. >> All right. So, you're all prepared to go through your clubs and your-- >> Silverware. >> Yeah, various things. >> Yeah, ladle. >> Exactly. >> And you're all turbaned up. >> Yes. >> And so, you turn to the door and you all hustle in. >> Whoa! >> Whoa! >> Go, go, go, go! >> Exactly. >> All right. And as you might have suspected, the swarming things begin to sworn around you. >> Mm-hmm. >> So, everyone give me a luck roll. >> Yeah! >> Oh, yeah! >> I'm lucky. >> Oh, I pass. >> I'm not a pass. >> I pass. >> Okay. >> What'd you roll? >> 77. >> Okay. >> So, the swarming things kind of go after all of you, but you get the primary swarm. >> All right. So, I'm going to see this. I'm going to try to help. >> What? >> What? >> I prefer you. >> I don't know if that's smaller than me. >> Oh, the predatory instinct, of course. >> Your, uh, your, your, your air satts, uh, armor seems to be protecting you. But they're definitely, like, swarming around your head, like, and, you know, they're, they're, like, crawling. >> Oh! >> Oh! >> Yeah! >> Yeah! >> And you can just feel some kind of, like, feelers kind of trying to shit at your eyes. >> Oh! >> Oh, no! >> Oh! >> Oh! >> All right. So, I'm going to try to, like, you know, slap them off. >> Oh, sanity roll from everyone. >> Oh. >> Yeah. >> I'm not sure. I fail. I pass. >> All right. So, strangely enough, you're unaffected by this. I guess it's just 'cause it's so real. >> Oh! [laughter] >> Uh, three points for Celestia, and three points for the good doctor. I mean, a good, uh, inspector, and one point for the good doctor. >> So, that's a lot of points in a short span. >> Oh, yes. >> Okay. >> That's a hell of a lot. >> All right. How many of you lost in the last game hour? So, I sense arriving at the estate. >> Oh, four. >> Four. >> Okay. And what was your sanity when you arrived at the estate? >> Forty. >> Okay. So, you could lose eight in a game hour and you'd be okay. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. I've lost eight, and it's been over the course of the past. >> But the whole, yeah. >> Two hours or so. >> Two hours or so. >> All right. >> You can lose four more in the next half hour of game time, and then you don't care. >> Okay. >> Mm-hmm. >> Okay. Um... >> Oh, thank you. >> I would say I'm not terribly affected, and they're not too terribly violent. I would say focus on protecting the room. >> Okay. >> Good DD. >> All right. >> I just tried to swap him away. >> All right. So... >> So, he has taken a steel dagger out of his coat, and he is beginning to trace symbols around the pool of blood in the center of the room. >> Okay. >> Are you good? >> Sort of been bokeying, you know, very... >> Mm-hmm. >> Yeah. That's the goal. >> Thanks. Uh, everyone give me a listen. >> Ahh! >> I make it, I make it, too. >> I do not. >> I do not. >> Okay. You two can hear over the sound of DD's rituals, the sound of running feet coming up the hall. >> Oh, no! >> Somebody's coming. >> Coming towards the door. What do you want to do? >> Come on. >> Come on. >> Come on. Close the door. >> All right. I'm going to do a pose dexterity roll. >> All right. >> What is your dexterity roll? >> I'm going to roll that. Okay. You just get to the door. >> Okay. >> You get to the door. You slam it shut, and you immediately feel something hit the door. >> Whoo! >> And then, like, start to pound. >> Who is it? Who is it? >> Who is it? >> Who is it? >> The fist pounding on the door. >> Are they responding? >> Nothing. >> Oh! >> I'm going to hold it closed as long as I can. >> Okay. Okay. So, the ritual is going on, and the pounding is continuing. So, we'll have to do a pose strength roll. >> Well, I'm going to come help. >> Oh, okay. So, what's your strength? >> 10. >> And half of your strength? >> It's 11. So, 5. >> 5. >> Okay. >> 15. Okay. Okay. So, the door gives slightly, but with celestial help, you keep it shut. >> Thank you. All right. So... >> So, the pounding continues. DDI is doing his ritual. He completes it, and the pounding stops. >> Oh, they're so creepy. >> The... >> What about the lamp rays? >> The demonic shrimp. >> The demonic shrimp. >> The demonic shrimp, meanwhile. Sort of begin to de-swarm off of you. >> I don't know if that's good. >> And kind of gather up around. They sort of gather up around the ceiling of what they're looking for a way out. >> Oh! >> And then they go down into the pool of blood and disappear. >> Oh, does the pool of blood remain? >> It does, but you can already see a difference. It's already beginning to coagulate. >> Coagulate. >> Yeah. >> Holy shit. >> Wow. Well done, DDI. >> Yes. >> Good job. >> He was covered by a sheet this whole time. >> Yeah. >> You didn't see much of what was going on. >> No, you didn't. >> Okay, no. >> I will tell him that I bravely protected him. [ Laughter ] >> Thank you, DDI. >> Wow. >> Well, also to be fair, I mean, we were all sort of, you know. >> I don't know what you guys were doing. >> Oh my God! >> I will openly say thank you. Thank you. >> Speaking of openly, should we try the door? >> Yeah. It doesn't sound like there's anything else unusual about the room. >> No, it says you left it. >> Okay. >> Otherwise, besides the-- >> Okay. >> So let's check the door. Let's just check to see if there's anything behind the door. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> We opened the door. >> So you open the door. And the silver crucifix was knocked off and probably by your slamming activity. And then the old oak of the door now bears impressions in the wood. Like, whatever was hitting it was hitting it so hard it was actually denting the wood. >> Amazing. >> Wow. >> So what is Thomas? >> Is the arm still dangling from the ceiling? >> Well, we have to go back. >> You're on the second floor. >> Okay. Let's look for the remainder. >> And we'll check right. >> To where the arm would be. >> Yeah. >> Right. Exactly. >> So that leads you to the master bedroom. >> Okay. >> And it is indeed a master bedroom. So it's a great big, sort of, palatial bedroom. I don't like that. And-- >> Oh, I know it well. >> Yeah. >> And so there's the four-poster kind of, you know, in the center part portion of the firewall, the marble fireplace and everything. But entering the room you're immediately assaulted by a foul stench of pieces. >> Oh, fortunately. >> Oh, he just had a bad brain. >> Oh, he just had a bad brain. >> And she had a bad brain. >> There is the body of the butler lying slate out. >> A third person. She was lying slate out on the ground covered in hundreds of pinpricks. But of the young word "pulgrain," you see nothing on your initial survey. >> On my initial survey of the room. >> Yes. As you enter. >> Hold it. Okay. In the bed, there's nobody in the bed. >> Nobody in the bed. >> Anyone in the-- is there any draining bathroom? >> No. >> Just those are poopy. >> Mm-hmm. >> The stench does seem to be stronger around the bed, though. >> Really? What's underneath the bed? >> Under the bed. >> Oh, my goodness. There he is. >> Oh. >> He's lying half in the floor. >> Oh. >> His eyes continue to flick. >> Oh. >> Looking but seeing nothing. >> All right. Oh, no. >> He is obviously-- his mind is gone. >> Yes. The balance. Should we kill him? >> Oh. >> Pull out of his misery. >> Oh, I'll take him into bed. >> Well, I was going to say, is there any way that we can-- >> How can we take it? >> Yeah. How can we get him-- >> He seems to be melded with the floor. >> He's stuck into the wall, under the floor. >> Yeah. All right. Well-- >> Where's the sledgehammer? >> Can we get him loosely? >> I don't think he's melded. It sounds like he was-- >> He looks like he's getting to a portal and his nail. >> All right. >> All right. >> All right. >> Darn. >> Darn. >> It's definitely-- >> All right. >> Come to bed, huh? >> Wow. Wow. Okay. >> Okay. >> That's the rest of you step away. You hear a single gunshot. And-- >> Does he look like he's dead? >> Flighter his brains across the floor. >> Yeah. He's no more. >> So, yeah. >> He's at least his physical body. He's no longer alive. >> Exactly. >> I burst into tears. >> I think that was a truly nothing we could have done to help him. >> Yeah. >> Well, it's too late now. >> I almost pressed. >> I don't feel like that was-- >> I feel like that was-- >> I was pressed by a-- Wait a minute. [ Laughter ] >> I wouldn't-- >> I would-- >> I would argue that more in D. Like, wasn't there anything that you-- >> Uh-- >> What kind of fan could have done? >> Yeah, no. That's beyond any of my experience or knowledge. I would simply say that he was meddling in astral travel in a way that is not advisable or safe. And he essentially got what was coming to him, I believe. The--I can't say much, but the order does have its own methods for exploring the ether. It is a much safer methodology. >> Poor young thing. He's just a kid. >> Indeed. I wonder what who gets his house now. [ Laughter ] >> That's a good question. >> It's a good question. >> It's a good question. >> Well, 27. >> It will fall into the hands of the local government, which will then auction it off. >> In which there is-- >> An excellent opportunity. >> Is there anything that we can search and find? >> Yeah. Well, let's field rooms and-- >> Of course, we have to cover the scene now. We don't want to implicate ourselves in this-- >> No, we have to like-- >> Well, the arm is hanging. >> What are we going to do? >> We do. >> We're going to run away? >> No, no, no, no. We don't have to do that. >> Really? >> I can call--no, I can call some people. >> All right. >> So I'm going to call some higher-ups. >> And the ad. >> And the ad. >> And the ad. >> Mm-hmm. >> And ask them--I mean, we get strange cases. >> Okay. I wonder if there's any-- >> That are inexplicable. >> We should look for survivors, so I'll call a little select group of people. >> Okay. >> And, yeah, and they'll come out and investigate the rest of the house to see if there's anyone else alive. >> Okay. >> And is that thing that we shot still in them? >> Oh, yeah, yeah. >> Yeah. >> I'm going to collect some of that. >> Take a check of that. >> Okay. >> No, not a piece of that thing. >> Yeah, it is. >> Apart with the mouth. >> The teeth would be good. >> The teeth. >> Yeah, actually. >> Yeah, it was a good chunk. It was good eating on one of those. >> There was some formaldehyde in it. Wasn't there formaldehyde in it? >> But they're not going to tell you it's genitals. >> It was actually-- >> You should pick the genitals. >> Check out the nose. >> Check out the mouth of the box. >> And I hear you hold this. >> Yeah. >> Oh, actually, okay. Can I go back in the room? >> Yeah. >> Now, is there anything unusual about these genitals? I was going to make a big cut off. >> And they were darkly colored. >> They were darkly colored male gel. >> They're just-- >> Nob and bollocks. >> I'm not going to gain any real knowledge from that. >> No, you've seen your fair share of male genitals. >> Yeah. >> All right. Well, I'll fish them out. >> All right. >> And I'll drop the head of the-- >> There it is. >> The beastie. >> Yeah. >> And I will seal it up properly. >> Yeah. >> So it's not too incur the wrath of Charles Harmore. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> All right. >> Yeah, it seems that you are going to wipe the mouth and hide off your fingers. And so as you're all going about this, Dee Dee, of course, you know, takes a moment at some point. And I just want to remind you all of the oaths that you gave. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> I made you do. >> Oh, yeah. >> To keep the secret, even from other members of the order. >> Okay. >> I, with your assistance, I'm going to prepare a confidential report to pass on to the secret masters of the order. >> Secret. >> Secret. >> Secret, chief, excuse me. >> Okay, chief. >> Who, they alone will have the wisdom to know what to do with all this outrageous-- >> Information. >> Yeah. >> Information. >> Okay. >> So I will be contacting you within the week, I'm sure. So, on to mechanical awards. >> Let's see. >> Right where we're? >> We're done. >> Yes. >> Oh. >> All right. >> Yeah. >> It's our first-- >> Yeah. >> Forain to be-- >> Yes. >> To be unknown. >> Mm-hmm. >> And beyond. >> I'll be sending out little messages to various-- >> People's-- >> You know, like for example, if you wanted to continue reading the papers, as long as covering the elder. >> Yeah, I would be waiting to hear back from my doctor-- >> Mm-hmm. >> --to blood. >> The blood. >> And-- >> All of them. >> Yes. >> Oh, yes. Oh, I'd like to-- I only really sort of skimmed the diary. I'd like to-- >> Do it a little more desolate. >> That's all right. >> And-- >> Yeah. >> It's a lonely-- >> It's a lonely life. >> Yeah. [ Laughter ] >> That's terrible. >> That's the first-- >> That's the first-- >> That's the first-- >> --that we're going to do. >> Andrew Pelgrain inadvertently invented the Harlequin Victoria. [ Laughter ] >> And then, if you wanted to keep an eye on the auctions-- >> Mm-hmm. >> --and, you know, picking up some stuff. >> That kind of thing, you know. >> Volumes. >> Yeah. So, anyway, everyone go ahead and roll D6. [ Laughter ] >> Sure, yeah. I want to-- >> Thank you. >> Mm-hmm. All one. >> The amount you rolled is the amount of sanity you gained back. >> Yay! 2.3! >> And-- >> Let's see here. >> Damn. >> I lost so much sanity. >> Well-- >> I'm still pretty good. >> I know. >> 56, so-- >> 99. >> That's cool. >> That's awesome. >> That's amazing. >> That's amazing on my face. >> I know! >> You handled that like a bro. >> You're solid. >> Well, I just got to learn how we're going to appreciate it. [ Laughter ] >> Well, I think it was probably speaking of that. >> Yeah. >> You can kill it then. It's not good. >> If you get a point of sanity for killing that small creature. >> Good. Okay. It's nice. >> Yeah. >> I'm at 40. >> Uh-huh. >> I got 60. >> Wow. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I'm really not-- I have seen weird things working on the force, so-- >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> And yeah, so on that note, that concludes the rule of-- >> Yay! >> Yay! >> Yay! >> Yay! >> Are you going to post this song? >> Go, go, go, go. >> I don't know yet.
