'Next level golf. Take your game to the next level.' The Super Saturday sport continues to roll on on your Saturday morning and joining us live on the line right now. Well, the stats man, I don't know if he likes this, but I do hear it and have a little bit of a chuckle and I'm sure many others do across the Goulburn Valley. But the Tatura Tiger, Dave Roberts joins us live on the line. Gee, I have a bit of a giggle when I hear that every Saturday morning. Dave, that you've been made. It's been a while since we've spoken. Once upon a time, we used to do this little program together on a Saturday. We did. We did use to do this little program once. We used to record it on Friday, didn't we? And all those were things. Oh, we did it all through that. Remember that bloody COVID business? Oh, gee whiz. Yes, yes. That's all that fun we used to have. You know, stats man does a good job on either the Tatura Tiger or a hilltop or a hilltop. That's right. Yes, the hilltop hood, of course. He's even got your little fame song there as well, which he rolls out with. All sorts of names. He comes up for me and I'm fairly grateful. I usually only coppered about once or twice from any of my mates who have listened and then they sort of forget it. So I'm not stuck with a knick nutting on it. It hasn't quite hung on yet. OK. Yeah, that's it. And he usually tells me that it's warm and sunny in Tatura or whatever it is. And it's, I think it's the windiest. We've had it for ages over here today and it's gray and cool. Treacherous, treacherous weather overnight. I was thinking this morning that it had really take a brave lover of the game to be heading out to what the first tea in the morning groups this morning, which there would be probably at least 1000 to 2000 people doing across our broadcast area as we speak right now. Dave Roberts, you're probably correct. Yep. There's people. Well, Bibs told me just before she's checked the hilltop system and she said, yeah, there's people out there, but there's also people that have pulled out Jason. So how's that? And I bet you your number one on that list. No, I'm there. I'm off at 10 to 12. Hey, I don't know what they'd have to do to keep you off the golf course. Dave, I bet actually I've been babysitting our wonderful grandchildren for a couple of days, but managed to get home yesterday. So all good. I better get into this. How'd you had because I'll tell you what, there's a bit going on in the world of golf at the moment, including one very special major. And I reckon this might be up there with one of your favorite events of the year, actually, just some of the history over the journey, some of the great moments. Of course, Peter Thompson really is the master of, well, what is now the open, but was formerly the British open, but does so much history and so much to play out over the next couple of days. Yeah, you're absolutely correct. It's one of, well, I'd probably think it's the tournament. It's the open. And actually, Jason, I played Trune in 1977. How's that? And it was a lot easier to get on then than it is now. So, yeah, it's out there, but look, we better go back as we usually do. Now, this time last week or last Monday, I finished over in Europe, the Amundi Evian Championship for the women. Yes. And Stephanie Cryo from Ozzy just got pipped from Japan, finished 19 under the collect 1.2 million and Stephanie Cryo finished 18 under the three courts of a million, but I think that's probably one of the best finishes for a while. Yeah, 100%. Yeah, that's that's her best achievement so far. Very well done. And then, of course, a big one last week, Robert McIntyre, the Scotsman, he won the Scottish Open and that was absolutely magnificent. And some interesting stuff in golf because on the 16th hole, he was in long grasp with my sheer chance to happen to be a sprinkle head there and he got a free drop. But anyway, he finished Eagle on 16 and birdied 18 to pit poor Adam Scott. Adam Scott's best finish for a long time too, Jason. He finished 17 under McIntyre 18 under. So, yeah, fantastic effort. So, this was unbelievable. I saw a thing on the internet that the day after of Robert McIntyre and his father, actually as a, of course, superintendent, one of the courses in Scotland in his father, caddy foreign when he won the Canadian Open a couple of months ago. And here they were with the great huge bowl, silver bowl and that it filled up with whiskey. What a great, what a great Scottish way to celebrate that one. One of his favourite courses. So, well done Sergio, you're still up there with it. But then what we're just talking about, the open, yeah, it's on out there, well, they have an arrest now, they finished our time this morning. Someone, no one's hardly ever heard of. Daniel Brown was leading with six under. Shane Larry was five under and then today, well, we'll just finish today. Look out before Shane Larry shot a 200 a day. So he's 700 leaving and I'm going to make another comment about that. Justin Rose and Daniel Brown are five under. Well, I reckon what's going to take away a lot from this tournament is all the big names who haven't made the cut for it. Just flick through here for a couple of seconds. That's pretty incredible. D. Shambo, Fleetwood, McElroy, Huddleland, Hatton, Zella Steeros walk. The big names of golfers haven't made the count. It's been too tough in the wind and the rain that they've copped over there. Poor old Minwoo Lee had a bad day today. He was doing OK yesterday, bad day today. Adam Scott is still in the contention. I guess he's five over, but he's actually made it. So yeah, I think it's going to be the story of those who didn't make it. The other interesting one, Scotty Shekla's cat. He was sick and had to lie down the middle of the course. There's strange things, but the thing that has amazed me the most to come out of round two is how some of the world's best golfers don't know the rules of golf very well. Because Shane Lowry hit his ball into a big pickle bush or whatever it's called, and he just decided, "Oh, it's lost." And you're not allowed to declare your ball lost. You've got three minutes to look for it. He didn't look for it, but a spectator found it. So bad luck, Shane, penalty. So he's copped it, but he's still seven under and he's still leading. So we'll look forward to see what happens overnight and what things are happening when we wake up tomorrow morning. Isn't that amazing, though? Shane Lowry, who obviously grew up with the brutal conditions, Lynx Golf Player, Ireland. He's a sort of bloke that you'd look at pre-tournament, #gambler response. I'm not a gambling man myself, but I tell you what, if you were, he's probably one that you might actually had a dollar or two on leading into this week. And the creams risen to the crop, like you said. He's leading by two shots comfortably, and he's copped an unnecessary penalty in there. Yeah, best place of the Aussies Dave is Jason Day, as mentioned. He's won under at the moment, and potentially, as our chairs start collapsing in the studio, I'm going to throw that chair in the bin after this program. Jason Day, what do you attribute his recent turnaround in form to Dave? What do you think it's been with Jason Day because, gee, he really did spend a significant period of time in the absolute never-never-never. And all of a sudden, it looks to be fit, healthy and competitive at the highest level of game. Yeah, he's done well. The last couple of tournaments, I think it's these new practice facilities at his home. I was going to say, you know what, I was walking you into a little bit of a joke there, because I didn't know whether you would have seen that, but you've seen it. That's ridiculous, isn't it? It's unbelievable. All those guys, it's just hard to imagine. Apparently, Mark Leuchman is a very fastidious sort of guy, and his back lawn is mowed to, well, cared for and mowed to the heights of some of the best grooms in the world. That's right, and he does a lot of it himself. It's actually a hobby for Leuch, but yeah, as far as, I mean, it'd be hard to wake up in the morning being Jason Day to that sort of a set-up, wouldn't it, Dave? If anyone's listening and you're interested, you haven't seen, just putting your search engine, Google, whatever you call it, just googed up, Jason Day, home practice facilities. That's unbelievable. Unbelievable. Righto, Pennant, this is the important stuff. Forget the British Open. Forget about it. Pennant for last week, and tomorrow is the last round, and it's getting interesting as to who's going to make the final. Last week, Division 1, Shep defeated your Merka three and a half, one and a half, Rich River squared with Hilltop. Now, that was a bit of surprise on paper. Everyone thought Rich River would have swamped Hilltop, but they managed to do very, very well. So it's mathematically possible that all teams can make the final, their four teams. This week, that's Shep, Rich River playing your Merka and Shep it and play Hilltop. So I guess the Shep boys are going to be very keen for a big win over Hilltop on their home track. In Division 2, Rich River defeated Cobham Baruga 3-2, Tope defeated Shep 4-1, Tope are on top and play Rich River who are third. Shep play Cobham Baruga, so it's possible that those three teams, their Tope Shep are Rich River can get in the finals. Division 3 is a bit more cut and dried towards the last week. Last week, your Merka defeated Valley View 3-2, and Cobham Baruga squared with Shep. So it's that Valley View for the last round. Tomorrow, Cobham Baruga play Tope and Shep play your Merka. And I'm going to say it's going to be the winner out of Shep and your Merka who are going to play Cobham Baruga into the final. If I get that wrong I'm going to cop it. Division 4, Meruka defeated Shep 3-2, Tope defeated Merigam 3-2 and Cobham Baruga squared with Nogambi. So tomorrow Division 4 will go down in Nogambi, the last round, and we know that Tope are going to play Meruka in the final. So, pen and play are listening, your finals are going to be at Rich River next Sunday, the 28th, starting Division 2 and Division 4 at 9.30 and Division 1 and Division 3 at 10.20. Thanks to Rich River and thanks to Joel Watson who are going to look after that early in the day. I better go round the traps. Jason, you started that title round the traps. Thanks, Dave. Thanks for remembering. It's nearly five years, you know. I can't believe that. That's crazy. Five years, mate. Where's that gone? Where has it gone? Very quickly. I played Beck at Shep and last Monday, the best scores were posted by Daniloquan, Pierre Barry, Barlow and John Riddetsky. 47 points, that's a pretty good score. 45 points, Kevin Newton and Jimmy Malus from Marutna. And their next event is the 19th of August at Merigam 9.30. So, get there, guys, and it's going to be sponsored by Priya's Panel Works. To Marutna, I better go to Hurry on here, Jason, aren't I? Oh, yeah, I think you're going OK. You're going OK. We're going for 10.30, are we? Yeah, mate. Righto, Marutna, Tuesday, Tony Bloke, sorry, Tony Blake, had the best score. 39 points, Thursday, Johann Villision. I hope that's how you pronounce it. 47 points, what a ripper. Saturday, A-grade winner, Dylan Poole on 40 B-grade, Troy Brown on 38 C-grade. Jonathan Sherrod on 43. Sunday, Cooper Gentle at a score of 38. Now, I reckon Cooper Gentle, I look at this, and he's playing up plus four. He's at 38 points, so I reckon he's six under the card, roughly for the day. It's a magnificent afternoon, a golf, isn't it? Could have been anything, that kid. Yeah, ladies, Wednesday, Julie Evans won that event. Brent Branton won the nine-hole event, and Saturday, ladies, Julie Evans took the prize again, so a good week for Julie Evans winning Wednesday, and Saturday. Over to our mates at Merrigan, thanks to Billy Bray, he did a magnificent job with his reports with a few stories. They played the Greenwood Memorial, mixed a four ball on Saturday, and men with our partners with a bit of a pint-hurst. It was a foggy start. Now, that came out in a few of the reports this week. The guys who started early could hit it out of sight before the fog cleared. A bit of rain. Anyway, Simon and Tashdody had the best round of the day, 72 and a half to win that event from Ash Sanders and Wanda Ebbly. The best round in the men out there, Andrew Wood with a 79 net. Out there now, they're getting ready for the Peter Cottrell four-person cross-country Ambrose. Now, can you imagine, cross-country Ambrose out there at Merrigan, there will be a lot of laughter in the clubhouse between about four and six o'clock tonight, I would think so. I look forward to hearing about that one, Mr Billy Bray. I was going to say, hopefully, there's some nice, fresh, hot, crusted rolls and some signature in Merrigan's soup as well. I'll be well-looked after I did. Billy knew what's happening. Scoop reports that the winter, the golfers have struggled to fire up. But Saturday, Stableford sponsored by Chia Thai Service. Peter Blackmore managed to play to his handicap to win a grade on 36 points. Boot grade, oh, three-way count back. Allen Curno, Craig Lecomme, and Steven Brown, who's finished on 34. And Allen Curno got it. You should have got it, Craig. You're the reporter. You should have just made up that you won. Sharon Harrison won the ladies from Helen Armstrong. Tuesday's scoring was a bit better. Darryl Harrison and Peter Noble fought it out. Harold got the nod from the count back with 36 points. Tanya Merka, two brothers. Mitch Jones from Shepperton and his younger brother, Fraser. Ah, one and two. They won the finish first and second in the bear challenge. Not very often you read out that two brothers have had the first and second. Anyway, Mitch had 46 points. That's an incredibly good score up there. And Fraser had 36. Ah, they're Saturday comp. Russell and Brian do fairly well. Go-cats is riding this and go-cats is a lot happier in the last couple of weeks with Jollong playing much better. So Russell, Thomas and Brian Florence are the two guys. It was a bit wet underfoot that they came out impressive winners with 44 points. There are a few strange things happen up there. If people miss and putts from six inches, people hitting into the dam. I just cannot go through all the detail because I'll end up laughing and we'll get nowhere. Ah, you're playing par up there. You Merka, someone will be already out there so happy hitting. Ah, New Merka, women from Green Whispers. Green Whispers is the new reporter. I'm not agreeing with that. Margot McGraw and Julie Byrne came into the final against Julie Daniel and died Davies to complete the for the ladies four ball on a board event. So that's going to be a very, very interesting final. But there they had the ball beyond Blue Charity Day on Wednesday. It's always good. I often comment on this show of how golf clubs do support for a lot of charity. So it's fantastic. All the ladies were wearing blue when that had been good to see. Helen Commodore, lovely round plane to a handicap. She won the event with Bev Hutchins. Ah, coming in second. Ah, it was a bit cold and wet on Saturday for them. And the pair of Noll Adultn and Bev Hutchins won the four ball event for the women. So Bev Hutchins has had a runner up on Wednesday and a win on Saturday. So well done. Ah, Falmer McBride. Ah, knockout. Ah, we'll report on that next week. I reckon we'll see who the winners are as I scoop down here. If I go closer to Hilltop, the women in Hilltop monthly medals sponsored by Drummond Golf and Newton's Pastel Service. Josie Dzio. She's having a very good consistent few weeks there with a monthly medal win on a count back. Ah, lady call. Bev Roberts was unlucky to become runner up bad luck Beverly. You should down the other room. Listen to this. So I've got to be very nice here. Ah, Francie Mark won boot grade from Julie Donaldson runner up. And the nine hole event was won by Glenda Alexander. She had a 40 net. Um, as those who listen know that the Hilltop main report, the men's report and Saturday report is done by Lee Runner. And he always comes up with a theme. So this week it's all sporting events, Wimbledon, two of the France World Soccer Championship. Anyway, on Tuesday, tennis ace, Link Wellington won the tiebreaker. He won the day with 30 points. Say it'll be Thursday. A peloton was out there for the two at the Hilltop. And the pro-scromakers in the lucky Alpine conditions. Les Walks won the winner's yellow jacket with one over. The headless chukrun was won by Jan Toh. Suckaball, Saturday, the World Cup of four balls. Stubbleford sponsored by Ross and Lynn Kelly for the 20th year. Isn't that a fantastic effort for members sponsoring the golf club? And it was a FIFA day. Fog initially fog free afternoon. Free for football associates. Anyway, team Lumber Darcy, Greg Sullivan, 51 points. I don't know if you're going to get anywhere near this. But the highlight of the event, all you listeners sit down because you're going to collapse in about one second if you're not sitting down to get ready of this. A guy by the name of David Roberts had an eagle on the tenth. But just being his luck, someone had an eagle a week before and collected 30 golf balls from the eagles' nest. Poor old David Roberts, he will get one golf ball for his effort in that. Eagles, anyway, I got boasting, Roberts. I do have to play. I was having trouble trying to shake off one of the guys I was playing with. And would you believe this, the 15th hole, his house is on the right-hand side, going up to 15? Jeff Huddle is going to cop it. The secretary treasurer of the Murchison Golf Club hit his ball straight into the brick wall of the house beside the 15th. Fairway, bounced off the house, back out on the course. Lovely shot to the green, sunk the pup for par. So that's what I've got to compete against. And the Gambi quickly down there. Third of July, Staggleford for the women, Jan Bowe won. Nine hole event was won by Bev Brown. A week later, the 10th Staggleford, Bev Brown. So they swapped around that week. Well done, Bev. They're Thursday comps. Staggleford on the back nine, one by Gerald Guthrie. And the following week was won by Shane Kimball. To finish off at Coley Parkland, men's winner over there on Saturday was A-grade Paul McGinnis, 56 on a camp back. B-grade, Mal Williams, C-grade, Dennis Andrews. Women's A-grade, Fay Glover. Tuesday, women's stroke event after they got washed out the week before. Terry Griffin, 54 net in A-grade. And Kyra Clark, 53 net in B-grade. And Wednesday, men played a two-man Ambrose. Roger Gillen and Borne Moss won that one with 50 and a quarter shots. And to finish off with a little quote that Judy always gives me every week, golf is like a love affair. If you don't take it seriously, it's no fun. If you do take it seriously, it breaks your heart. And that's from Arthur Daley. So there you go. We've got through the golf show, thanks to next level golf. And there you go, Jason, you can move on to your next segment and you've got comparing today or calling up. Yeah, yeah, I do. Yep, yep, yep. Big day today, mate. Well, we've got Squaregates coming up in just a couple of moments and then we've got the GV Giants coming in after the news for about five minutes. And then, yeah, we get a short little bit of a break before we head across to Marupna. But yeah, she's a long day, that's for sure. There will be a long day, all that. And just think, oh, Statsman, does that pretty regularly, doesn't he? Yeah, well, he can do. He can do, yes, yes. No, that is a fair point. But yeah, that's why I'm more than happy to do it because of the sacrifice that others make week in, week out, which Statsy has been doing for a very, very long time and does an absolutely brilliant job. But we will miss him and we will welcome him back as soon as we can as well. Dave, rest assured. That'll be good. It'll be good. It'll be good. It'll be good to have a couple of weeks off, I reckon. So that'll be good. 100% mate. Will you, I'll tell you what, to rug up out there. And if you've got those hand warmers, make sure that you crack a, maybe a pack of those. Open, you might need them, Nissavo. Thank you very much, Jason. Since we've been doing this show and I'm looking out the window, I think it's getting worse out there with the wind. But anyway, well, I have to see what we do. We can't be chicken. Not mate. We'll try and talk to you next week. Look forward to it. You are a brave man indeed, of course. That is our very own Dave Roberts. Next, level golf. Take your game to the next level. Time to not. You must consider the Shepard and Golf Club for your most special day.
