Everybody's away. Big thanks to Ralph for some great music over the last couple of hours. The Staxman's away with some family and the bridge. He's in Melbourne tuning in to his listening in, but he's got his new robot knee put in and he's in hospital there getting started the recovery of that. It was almost at the point where I was going to have to sit here and talk to myself for an hour and a half. I thought, well, that'll probably have everyone turn in their radio off. I can't have that. So, when in doubt, you can't find a Melbourne supporter because, you know, it's the time of year. They're all normally at the snow, but they actually had a win this week. So, good old Johnny Painted decided to make his debut on the opening bounce. Welcome, Johnny. Welcome, folks. That's absolutely great to be here. You know, my footy knowledge is not like yours and the bridge and the Staxman etcetera is just there again. Well, I've been pushing footy for a long time. I was there in '64 when Melbourne won the grandfold, I don't say. I think I was 14. It was a day or two ago. Exactly. But you are a Melbourne supporter. Oh, absolutely. We will hold that against you. Lifelong. But I've been suffering for years. Did give you a bit of a treat that, you know, as you know, always one of the wins of the week goes to get the song at the start of the show. Yeah, totally. It was a good win. Look, it was lined up to be a Geelong song, really. But since you came in, I thought, well, we'll get you that one there because we've got it. I appreciate it. That was good fun. Yeah, it's a little thing along to myself here while we're at that one. We've got a few new people listening in from around the country at the moment. So there's a lot of that sort of happening, which is really cool. But yeah, I was going to be playing the Geelong theme song just so that Heather, our Collinwood supporter, just got to hear it one more time because we know how much she loves that. But you got away with it, Heather. There wasn't. But Melbourne, you did manage to topple the demons. They did. Yes. Let's go through some of the scores. We'll start with your game, the Melbourne game. That was on. There we go. 13 goals, 684. The demons, 10 goals, 767. It was the Saturday night cracker game. It was a great game, yep. And your boys got the chocolates. Yeah, in the end there, but I was very disappointed in the thinking. I mean, they had a 42-point lead midway through the last quarter and got knocked back to, what, 17-18 points? You still got the four points at the end? Yeah, the four points are the important thing, but gee. Yeah. You're on elimination finals, basically. Yeah, exactly. Every week is... We're team number eight at the moment, and we're going to Fremantle this weekend, so... If you can just keep winning, then that's alright. Yeah. You keep going there. We've got the same amount of percentage, firstly, as the team's in second and third place, but it's the, yeah, the points that are counting. I can sort of see why you dropped away, though, late. Your list at the moment is injury ridden. Yeah, it is. And that definitely is affecting you. Your forward line is sort of a bit ad hoc still, but when you're... You're sort of... You're Ruckman is Harrison Petty. Yep. You're almost at the point, and Big Tiny will ace. He did message in last week and said he would go down and be Melbourne's Ruckman for the week. Yeah, they worries. If they'd lost, then we would have put that down to that they didn't bring in a 45-year-old draft pick. Yeah. But they did do it, and look, give Petty credit. That's a big thing for a guy that is struggling a bit in the forward line. But they actually did quite well in the end. I thought they really did well in the end. It probably will help Jung, Jacob Van Ruhlen take his next step forward. Like, 17 hit outs for himself and 13 disposals there. He didn't get the scoreboard, and Petty was 60 disposals and 10 hit outs. Bridges are probably still trying to give him spuds because that's what Bridges does. They're clearly both playing out of position and having to do the job. Now, as a Melbourne supporter, you had Grundy last year. Yep. You wasted and in the end burnt him. I think so, yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. You got the win this week, but Grundy was there. But if you got rid of Grundy, shouldn't you have found somebody else? Exactly. You can't rely on one all the time. You've got to have someone that can come in and do the job as well. And even if they're not as good, you've still got to have a backup plan. That's something that I think it's come now to the fore that Melbourne don't have a backup plan at all for their rock. That's right. And Grundy's done such an awesome job in Sydney, so you've got to wonder. I have to have a look at the injury list, but you can probably tell me straight up. But is Benny Brown injured? I don't know. What's up with Benny Brown? I see a lot of the people take a mark and go back 30 or 40 paces. And I think, well, the bend of the Ben Brown school will go kicking, but it's unreal. I'm not sure it would be. I'm just bringing up this tracker. Well, hopefully you will get him back. No, he's not injured. No. You'd have to question, like, is a big tall unit, Benny Brown? Oh, yeah. Could you have used him as a rock? It's a possibility. Yeah. And first thing I would have done when I got rid of Grundy is going, all right, Max, who's your heir apparent? Yeah, exactly. What's the next step? Because it's a hard spot to play. It is. It's a crashed bash, brutal. I noticed in the first game of the season when they played Sydney, Brody beating pointless a lot of the times when they first came. Well, Max has been pretty good all year still. But there was no run straight up and face-to-face compete. The ball, Brody went round beside him and got into his side. And it was just the way he played him. And he did it extremely well. Well, the good part is you beat, isn't it? We did. Now, yes, boys. You know, that gets you the song almost on its own when you do beat the bombers, because it's starting to send them down that ladder where they probably belong with the teams that they've played against. And at the end of the day, it was a spot where you're on 40 points, they're on 42 now after the end. If you'd let them win that game, they jumped back into second spot on the ladder. Melbourne win the next one. We've got 44 points in Chilong. We've got 44 points. So, you know, it's Chilong. So now you're telling me top four. No, no, no. But I'm thinking you don't know. It's going to go up and down all over the place. All right. At the moment, yeah. But good win to the D's. It was shared across the shared workload. Only one over 30 disposals was Ed Langdon. And Trent Rivers, who's been really good at coming off your back line lately, has done quite well in there. Tackles-wise, Gycordwell, he has definitely hit some form. Yeah, he's come on really well. He really has. As a young bloke that's finding his feet, I think he's probably one of the highlights of Essid and Season at the moment. Yeah, you're right there. So, all right. Our new bloke, they're cold and full. He's going to come along quite well to his. An interesting player. Very interesting player. It's not a young bloke. I think it's only played three or four games. Yeah, he's been given a little bit of a chance. He has, yeah. He'll definitely get more of a spot. Oh, he will. But Friday night last week, one of the big clashes, and this one did have later ramifications as it sent Collinwood packing, ten goals, eleven, seventy-one, the Cats, thirteen, thirteen, ninety-one, had to travel to Collinwood's home ground, the MCG to play, and they got the job done, but they were able just to run the ball straight out of the back line. They did a time of time again. As a person who doesn't support each of those teams, it was a great game of footing to watch. It really did run backwards and forwards up and down the ground. And I thought it was a great exhibition of our game. It's just absolutely fantastic. Grine Myers was very good. I thought his use of the ball coming inside 50 hasn't dropped off this year all last year, but twenty-seven disposals, a goal was really good. Collinwood had a lot of ability to move the ball through the middle, no problems, because they've got the disposals. They would just sort of go on sideways, because there's no one to kick to. Exactly, yeah. Their forward line itself is struggling young Joe Richards and Jamie Elliott with the only multiple goalscorers for the day. Right, yeah. And the Cats had Cameron, Stingle, and young Shannon Neale. Well, I tell you what, if I was Tommy Hawkins right now, I'd be possibly putting my hand up to either retire or ask how much Collinwood would pay to have him. I think that was the topic I had for the boys tonight, you know, not here. So they'll have to tell me about it last week, but Collinwood need a forward. They do. And they need a forward that isn't going to cost them the earth, so they need someone that's at veteran price point, and they need someone that can take a mark and kick a goal. Yep, for sure. Yeah. They don't have any of them. No, the Decos brothers are running around doing a great job, but yeah, they're more, to me, they're more flash. Well, they're doing their job. They're midfielders. Yeah. Yeah. Day cost 32 disposals. Yeah. Still young Steel. Right. From our local boy, 28, Nagole. What am I winking? He's actually taught him all he knows about welding. I'm sure as a Collinwood football player, welding has made his career and his money. Absolutely. Yeah. Steel's going welding. What did I possibly need to know about that? Exactly right. Right through school, all he was going to do was play AFL, and he said that so many times. What are you going to do when you finish school? I'm going to play AFL. End of story. Well, he has. He certainly has. Yep. He's old, but as far as football is concerned, but he's standing up. Young John Nobles doing a good job for the pie. Yes. Disposals wise across the middle was alright, but they were simple kick marks, moving around, and then it kicks into some of the young cats that were the better ones on the day for them. From Geelong's point of view, if I look at their top possession getters, Myers, Holmes, Stuart in there as the old guy, but then Jack Bose, young Lawson Humphrey, so that Sam Daconing, who's taken a chop out in the ruck, five of their top six disposal getters are all young the next generation, so one of the things that Collinwood can take out of this is that they weren't beaten by the old geriatric cats. No, they weren't. Yeah. They'll be beaten by the young kittens. Yep. They're not going to make Heather any happier. She's got the voodoo doll right now stabbing it, I'm sure. Yeah. You're feeling all those pizzas, yep. Yep. I can feel it right in my ankle right now, thanks. But for the cats, they just needed to get the win, get back on track, and it was a good win there. That certainly was. Now on Saturday, the Hawks played the Dockers, '87, '39, '87, '10, '14, '74. That was down in Launceston. Same amount of scoring shots, but a 13 point margin. Yeah. And, well, on the show, we all tipped the Hawks. We thought maybe a bridge too far, even the bridge picked them, and possession-wise, not a high possession game as we look there, '24's the highest. But now I didn't see this one because I was busy doing other things at the time. But when I look back at the score sheet and I see three goals new next to James Sicily's game, I've got to ask what the hell was going on down there. Exactly. Yeah. So that one's a bit of a, hey, let's do a swapies. Yeah. Swapies. Oh, you backmen, you forwards, forwards. You're all backmen. Yeah. And see what happens. It's a case of at the end of the quarters I didn't change yet. Stand where you are, face the wind all day. Exactly. Will Day, though, is starting to find some form back after injury, which is good. And Carl Aymon standing up with getting that distance again. Tackles-wise, all the bits. You're Hayden Young from Fremantle doing his job as well. And John Euchum in there, both with eight tackles each. So that was good. Who won to mark the ball? No one. No one hit double figures in marks. Yeah. It was Tasmania, wet, slippery, sort of a, a condition, so it was wet weather football by the look. Mm. Then, might see. We had, well, this has always got to be a thumping somewhere. Yeah. And I did. Unfortunately, north I've had a few of those this year. I tipped north. Yeah. This is where my tipping was at. So I did tip north, but this one's 20 goals, 18, 138 to 9 goals, 5, 59. And this one's found north wanting big time. Possession-wise, well, Errol Gordon, he brought his own footy. He said, I'm just going to have 41 disposals here and kick 738 metres. And yeah, just have an easy day. Two shots of gold missed though. Could have easily locked away some brown low votes. Mm. But it's always tough though when you have a guy that's got 40 disposals and then he's offside midfielder. He has 31 disposals. Exactly right. Yeah. But he kicks two goals. That's, yeah. And does he get the chocolates or not? Mm. I think this is where no Isaac Haney or Isaac Haney not in the brown low, I really don't think that he's going to win. Yes, right. It's kept wide open there, isn't it? Well, I know he can't win it, but I don't think he's going to poll them those votes because Warner and Gordon are on his heels every game. And I think one gets three bit like you guys at Melbourne. Yeah. Patraca and Oliver probably will never win a brown low. No, they took votes off each other all the way through, yeah. Because they, yeah, just, they sacrificed each other to do it. Harry Schiesel's definitely finding the midfield role, no problems. He's an interesting player too. He pops up all over the place, very interesting. Well, they moved him. He originally was off coming off half back a bit like Dacos and now they've allowed him to move into the midfield more and young Colby McCurcher there, first, who was number two in the draft, he's gone backline there a little bit further. But bad loss for the Kangers. The Alshin bonus, yeah, exactly. But at the same time, they've won a couple of games and I think maybe they looked at that when, hang on a minute, we've won too many games here. Richmond currently have the first round draft, yeah. And I can see stats man sitting there listening, go on, teams don't tank, they don't tank. They do stats, they do. We'll get to another team that definitely decided to make sure they didn't win, well, we almost get to them. They mightn't tank but they do play for draft, for draft, for draft picks, that's right. That's right. Okay, so we're not tanking. No, no. We're playing for draft picks, yeah, exactly, yeah. Okay, and the way we do that is we lose. Right. Well, upset. Look, I could have given the Bulldogs the song but if I did that, Freddie and Tiny, I'd never hear the end of it. And I do hear that up at River Enigora Meets up in Berrigan, where Tiny has his butcher shop. He put a little speaker out the front and just put the Bulldogs song on repeat on Monday. He was a pretty happy dogs man. Absolutely. 14, 16, 100 took out the blues, 12, 14, 86, and just showed us that the season is never over. It's going to come down to the very last little bit. Bailey Dale, 31 disposals and a goal, Patty Cripps, who I think it was his 200th game. Yeah, I think it was, yeah. 28 disposals, 2 goals, 550 metres gained. Still just showing that he can definitely do it at 200 games. Not wrong. That's good. Now, I'm just finding a couple of bits there. Excellent. Yeah, he should have got a couple of brand low votes out of that one of the way he played. Would it be though? McCray was really good there as well, Tamara kicked 4 goals, young Riley West, kept 4 goals. If we'd come across tackle wise, the Bont, 20 disposals, a goal, 9 tackles, 8 clearances. So you stack him up there against the Bont, against Bailey Dale. It's going to be interesting. Liver had a down day on the 20 disposals and most of them were handballs, so a bit lower there. He'll utilise your Hollands, I think, is starting to find his footing. I think he's doing quite well and I'm just changing and updating a couple of stats as I'm talking away. Yeah. All right, let's move on to the next one though, because the Bulldogs win was a good win. All right, now this is what you call about talking about playing for draft picks. Yes. Okay. Adelaide's been killed. It's been killed. Two points above Adelaide on the ladder before this game. It's a poor and rainy, yucky sort of a game. In fact, it's where the game of football is you can possibly imagine. In Adelaide too. And it was actually a really good game to watch. I know it wasn't high scoring at 10 goals 11 to 5 goals 9, so it wasn't going to set the score board on fire. But I'm just looking down into the actual stats man always has this answer for me straight away. I've got to go and find the tackle, actual total tackle count tackles 109 Adelaide, 99 Sincilda. That's close. But that's massive. Yeah. And normally we get 50 or 60 tackles a game. Yeah, 109 tackles, so 99 tackles that is. Yeah. 208 tackles between the two teams. And it was definitely a game played where, like, Sincilda was plus 16 I think in contested possession at quarter time. And that wasn't a big margin there because they let a late goal slip through. But they owned the first quarter. They did. From then they were owned by Adelaide. Yep. What was the free kick count on that game? Does that come up there anywhere? Just a matter of interest. Look, Bridges was complaining about the umpires and the free kicks and all those sort of things. I actually thought the game was umpired quite well, but it is a topic we can talk about a little bit later, possibly, is the out of bounds part because the first umpire played Pater like the game's that wet. It's a gather territory type game. Yep, exactly. Free kick count. Adelaide 23 Sincilda 29. So the Saints won the free kick count. Yeah, it was the other way that what I expected it to be. Yeah, exactly. Yep. And Bridges was complaining. There you go, Bridges. We won the free kick count. But the first out of bounds kick there was Pater's Deliberate. Yep. And I think there was about six to nine deliberate out of bounds that were just soccer's off the ground. The ball is slippery. It's wet. It's gone. Hit a patch of water. It goes sideways. Yep. And that's deliberate. Like umpire, it wasn't deliberate. It's just that wet. He's just trying to get a possession. Trying to clear it up the ground. Yeah, exactly. And that sort of a common sense has got to come into a game when it's that wet like that. Yeah. Player wise, it was, Rory Leid was the leader for the, for the crows. They tried to slow him down, St. Kilda massively were missing Windhager to be able to send him to either Leid or Dawson and slow him down. Jake Saligo, I think is, is definitely coming on this year. He's a bit up and down in his form, but he played well on the wet and seemed to enjoy that. Wanganee Malira was, for the Saints was very clean. Yeah. Clark had 21 disposals and eight of, 18 of those would contested possessions. So he. That's excellent. Yeah. Yeah. It was very much a game of a tackle as game. And so let's have a look at the tackle count. Adelaide won him, Rory Leid 13, Sam Berry 12, Jack Steel 10, Dan Butler 10, and Mateus Philippu, who actually seemed to like playing in the wet, was really good for the Saints, 20 disposals and a goal and nine tackles. And it was a Rockman's Day for being able to get tap outs because there was plenty of stoppages and plenty of bits there. One thing I did like about the game was it was a wet game that made it a very tackily game. Yes. The whistle was extremely quick once someone was wrapped up. Mostly. Mostly, yeah. Exactly. Except when it was an offensive player going towards goal. And there was one in particular that I saw. And it was Fogarty, he was tackled, he shrugged off two when he got the kick away, which resulted in a goal. But all through the game, they would have called ball up at the first tackle. Yep, exactly. And I don't know why they left. No prize. Exactly. Yeah. They still let some go, but quick whistles were very good in that one. But St Kilda, what did they need to achieve for a draft pick? They needed to lose. So Adelaide went above them on the ladder, so I didn't mind at the end the fact that we lost. Oh, dear. It would have been otherwise to do it, but hey, when you're playing for draft picks, that's what your job is. All right. Let's have a quick look at the last couple. So then it gets us to Sunday. We've already talked about Melbourne. Yep. Sunday was sons and poor Adelaide. Well, I tipped port and thought maybe the sons had dropped one at home. But no, 14, 12, 96, 12, 10, 82, and they did what was needed in that. And goals-wise, they spread the load, roses, luchosius, king and Humphrey, all two goals each for Port, Mead and Jason Horn Francis, kick two, so their big forwards didn't fire at all. Yeah. Possession-wise, but as of course, always a star, 35 to start touches. Yep, definitely. And Dan Houston, 34 as well, with Flanders leading the way for the sons, coming off the half-backline, managed to snag himself a goal as well. And young Noah Anderson, their next best in possession-wise, 29 and a goal. And tackling Alex Davies, pulled up 12, which was good. And no one really massively with the metres, Kane Farrell and Will Powell, both just over 600 in that one. Right, yeah. And Noah Anderson had 11 clearances out of that 29, so probably three brown low votes, more his way. And he's a smoky to win the brown low, based on the fact that they've got so many home games. Yep. And they do only seem to play good at home. They can't win away. Yep. But if you can pick up the threes at home, get one or two away, then that's all we need to do. Yep, sure. They do. All right, a couple of clicks back. And Richmond versus the Giants, this one is about scripted 84 to 102. Did you get a chance to watch any of this one? No. No, I did. Tom Green was brilliant. 30-70 disposals there, with Locky Whitfield not far behind on 35. And Jacob Hopper is starting to stand up and help Toronto out. The Tigers, their midfielders, Hopper, Toronto, Prestia and Rioli, led their disposals in the way that it went. All those wise, Jesse Hogan and Toby Green, their captain, four goals apiece. Yep. And Young Steely Green got three goals, so that'd be his biggest tally so far as a young tiger. It's not a bad effort either. 11 disposals, three goals. And he did all right in that spot. And Kieran Briggs, the Ruckman, 14 tackles, Young Toby Bedford, 13. So some good stats there for Giants. They had to win. It was just a must-win game. And the next one, well, we all would have thought this would have been a flogging. We kind of did think of it that way, but Eagles went with a never-say-die with a new coach. He did. It was 14, 9, 93 to 16, 10, 106 to 13 point winners only to the Brisbane Lions. But they did what they needed to do, Locky Neal, probably another three Brown low votes. Very possible. Yep. Yep. They had two disposals, two goals, humor, cluggage, continuing his good season. He's in everything, yeah. And Tim Callie, do you think the Eagles have got value out of having, paying him like the custom three first-grand draft picks to get him? Yeah, it did, yeah. Have they got value? I'm not sure on that one. Not sure. Not sure. Yeah. Time will tell because they've got- That's exactly right. Yeah. Such a young list. I think he's a mid-20s thereabouts now, so he's probably not going to be there at the end of the rebuild, or he'll be the Pendelbury of the Rage Group if he is. And Alett Yoe still managed to keep in his body up fit again, which is quite good. But the Lions got the win that they had to have, which gave us a ladder and we'll bring the ladder up a bit easier to see. Yep, there we go. Excellent. Okay. Well, no change there at the top of the ladder with the swans at 56 points, three games clear now of second spot and percentage. So with only six games left and swans basically four games clear because of their percentage, pretty much we can pencil them in as minor premiers and expect to have a home final at the SCG and the first round of finals. Who will they be playing? Good question. Blue's 44, Cat's jumping up the 44, and Brisbane Lions have come from the death. This is like a racehorse that's 200 metres behind as you turn on Flamington Strait, and they're now up into fourth spot. So, well done to them, 42 points. The drawers made a heck of a difference there with the 42 points, that's for sure. Yep, that's right, 10 wins and a draw, although the draw doesn't really count because Fremantle and Essen entrail them, and they've all got the drawers well, just low up percentage, and calling would have had two drawers, so, you know, that's... That's the equals, two draws equals a win, two plus two. That's right. Four points. Yep, exactly. Giants back into seventh. Your demons jumped, crept themselves back into the eight by one, two point one percent. You're sitting in the eight by? Exactly. Overport Adelaide. Yeah, Bulldogs kept their season alive and so did the Suns, and I guess you have to say calling would season is still alive as well, if they're all on 36 along with Hawthorne, then they make the finals, well, if they do, who's going to drop out? Essen at 42, probably a secure now, and they've got to probably pick up two wins. Giants, Melbourne, Port, all on 10 wins. Yeah, exactly. Where? Is there going to be any changes? I don't know. Melbourne, 40, if they win next if we beat Fremantle, they're up to 44 points, and the percentage at the 105, you know, what's that going to do to them? 44, it depends on whether Brisbane, Fremantle and Essen didn't win. Well, the percentage doesn't matter if it's still two separate groups because of the drawers. Brisbane, Fremantle, Essen and are on that separate system, and then everybody else has got the 40 points or 44 points type things, so their percentage matters. So there's two separate percentage brackets. There is, yeah. Melbourne, 120, Fremantle, 113, and Essen below 100. So considering they've, you know, we're a second on a later a couple of weeks ago to have a percentage below 100, it's pretty poor. Yeah, when you look down the list, you've got Port Adelaide who got a high percentage, so the Western Bulldogs, the Gold Coast, and also Collingwood, so yeah, it's hmm. Is it a bridge too far for the pies to make the finals from here? Oh, the way they played this year is possible. Very possible. You reckon they could make it? They could, but I saw they've got a bit of doubt in my mind on it actually. I think Mick Stay possibly back might help him in the forward line, and other than that. And the Hawks are still in with a shot, chipping a chair for the Hawks, 36 points, very poor percentage, probably a bridge too far. But for a young team that wasn't expected to do much, they're sitting a game out of the eight. Yeah. That's not bad. It's all bad. It's in 13th spot in the latter, but they're still on their game out of the eight. That's right. Crow's got themselves above St Kilda with that win, which means the draft pick order for those that are winning, Richmond are winning, North Melbourne are close second by 1.1%. So another flogging from North, and they get their spot pack. West Coast picked three at the draft, three wins, St Kilda picked four at the draft with six wins. And St Kilda played West Coast this week, so it'd be interesting to see whether the Saints actually put in any effort or not, because they'll play before the crows, so they won't know where they're going to be at. I would have to think the Saints will play to win, because no one wants to lose to the Eagles. That's for sure. Yeah. No. All right, let's jump to a sponsors break. On the other side of sponsors break, we're going to try and get hold of Sydney the bridge. He's in his hospital bed, but, well, you never know, we might find he can get some spuds from the bridges. So he's got the bionic knee? Yes, bionic knee, his robot man told him he can come out and apply a police force's robo cop. No worries at all. Yep. You've listened to the AFL opening bouts brought to you by Golden Valley Massage and natural therapies over in Marupna. So call Michael on 04 22 75 282 and visit us at 115 McLennan Street or messages on Facebook. One of him sponsor. And welcome back to the AFL opening bouts. We have Sydney the bridge with us online. He is in the hospital bed, robot knee put in bridges. Do we have you? You do. You do everybody. Can I out there? I hope you're all doing better than I am. Well, you've been looking forward to this bridges. I have been. I hope my knee's a lot better after this and it's all just swollen and who knows what it's like in there at the moment. I'm able to get around a little bit. So if everybody's going to go to hospital, come to the homes clean hospital, they're fantastic. Right. That sounds fantastic. G'day Sydney. It's Johnny Pader here. Hello, Johnny. How are you mate? You sound pretty good there? Yeah, I'm okay. Good. I'm good. I'm hooked up. You're hooked up. Okay. Well, we're a bit short, as you know, bridges, you baled on us, you know, getting a knee operation. Like, I've come up with some excuses, but that's a pretty lame one. Yeah. Yeah. But we could have waited till after the 40 season. No, I waited long enough, Johnny. Work needs your back, so that's fine. And did you get a chance to watch much football during the week? I did. I watched a fair bit of it. Yes. That's great. Oh, some are really good. It's a long way. Excellent. Well, they both honed them in Tasmania. Great. Sydney were good. All dogs were great. Melbourne good. Adelaide, terrible. Because they won. Dog Coast were okay again at home. Are they going to win away this year? And the Tigers, they don't want to win either. And West Coast, they don't want to win either. 1.1% bridges between North Melbourne and the Tigers now. Yeah. It's a big flag and help, didn't it? Playing for draft picks, I reckon. Yeah. I get mad if you don't. Now, Johnny says that no team tanks, okay, bridges? No, they don't tank. No. They play for draft picks. Oh, good. Yeah, so maybe stats is right. Teams don't tank. You're splitting heads, you know. They're just stats, he says, they don't tank. He didn't say they couldn't play for draft picks. We should never doubt the stats, money. True, true. Right on the ball. He is. All right, so now bridges, well, we've got you here and, you know, you've got to make about as much sense as normal. But why don't we get some spuds from you? Hang on, I'll find you a little stinger. And we'll get you some spuds. Oh, now, Johnny, I'm sure you've heard our segments in the past with spuds. Bridges takes the best AFL players that ever was, and turns them into mashed potato. Right. And that's about where we're at. Bridges, off you go. These propellers could have got it, McGraw could have got it, and then one, getting 55. You know, in a losing team, he's the one that's got to stand up for them. Doesn't get it though. He was a rising star, too, wasn't he? I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure he was a token rising star winner, yes. Ballad could have got it, Higgins could have got it, memory could have got it, so it wasn't a day for marking forward, so he missed it. One goes to him, the McIntosh, again, why, because he's one of the most experienced players out there. He has the ball at his mercy, because he runs up and down the wing and whatever. And he gets 37 in 96 minutes or 40. He has got to improve, or he's got to go to twos. Two goes to Bobby Hill from Collinwood, had 20 super coach points in 99 minutes of game time. Now, that fell up. We sent it in the Grand Final, we sent it numerous times. Collinwood would rely on those small forwards because they don't have the big forwards there. And they have a bad day, and then Collin would have a bad day, and that's what happened. They have them, too. And three goes to Charlie Cameron. Now, for a few reasons, one, he's not a good guy, so he didn't get off on being a good guy this time. Two, he got off on technicality, and that's grim, but he also only got 45 super coach points. So he gets three out of three, and he gets three spuds for the win. Well, it actually does make your spuds a little bit more interesting, British. We're getting here now, Charlie Cameron, because he's such a good guy, has eight spuds. Right. Can the McIntosh? He's jumped up to eight spuds. Oh, wait a second. No, because Petty wears Petty's numbers, I'm sure Petty got to find him. Petty, now, he's got to get cut a bit of slack because he's been chucked in the rock. He didn't do anything this week, but he's still leading on nine. Yeah, right. You've got to cut a guy some slack who's a forward, doesn't know anything about rock craft and being told to pick up Max Gorn's job. He got 48 for the coach points in, whatever game time. The point is in the rock, all you've got to do is get taps. You've just got to, you're involved in the game, so he needed to do more, but he just escaped this week. British is your forefoot tour. What would you know about getting a tap in a rock out? Well, I'd like rock out of the kid. It's just a little small, didn't mean I didn't have a good spring. Is that why your knees are sore, is it? Because you jumped. Ah, yes, probably no, no, no, no, no, no, they just worn out for all things. Alright, before we let you go, give me some quick tips for the week because I go through the games. Eston and Adelaide tonight? I'm going with Adelaide. It's our NIRS coverage, so you're going with the crows. Well, we do need the crows to win because then that way allows the Saints to keep winning because we're playing for draft picks, and we'll find out if Adelaide are or not. Giants and sons? I've gone to Giants. I think they can do it. Saints and Eagles? I've gone to Saints. They will win that Eagles. Yeah, they'll put up a fire to Eagles with new coach. The teams often turn their luck around a bit, but they're under the dome they won't like. Is it debatable based on whether Adelaide win or Adelaide win tonight? What do you mean? Well, Adelaide are two points clear of St Kilda. Yeah. If Adelaide lose tonight, does that mean the Saints? They don't want to win? They probably don't. They don't want to go down the order. The draft this year, they talk in the top 10, are all going to be gun midfielders. Yeah. That's the story. So whether you pick four, six or seven, I'm not sure it's going to make a lot of difference because then it comes down to who you choose, and the Saints have a poor record of choosing the best players around. We'll mess that up for sure. The next one, the Voodoo Don match, Hawks versus the Pies? I've gone the Hawks. I think they've got their forms OK, and the Pies, they've lost another injury, peck muscle out, but those injuries are really hurting Collinwood. Now, McStae coming back in, you're right, but he's the best player not being played. When he's actually playing, he's a pretty average player. He gets one goal, maybe two, does give him a focal point, but he's not a key for it. And when he wasn't playing, everyone wanted him. Where is he? Where is he? We need him. We need him. I said earlier in the show, Bridges, that Pies need to go after Tommy Hawkins. No, Tommy's, I'm afraid, if he plays again, it'll be a Geelong, and I doubt he'll do that either. Yeah, OK. Point to agree with you on that one. They watch. Should target Tex Walker? Yes. Yeah, that's an equal sort of thing. Yep, fair enough. Port Adelaide Richmond? I've gone for it, though. They need to win. They're in the eight still, hanging around there. Richmond don't want to win. Richmond are quite happy to get an 80-point flag and match it around. Fourth versus first, Lyon Sydney. It's set to gather, so I'm going Brisbane. I think at home, they're very hard to beat, lost a couple there early in the year. We understand that, but they've now found their mojo. They're big forwards of moving, kicking goals, and that back line of theirs is really good. Then they've got the round of Sydney, I don't know, but it's the gather, and most teams don't do well with it. And Dockers versus Melbourne in a Melbourne death match. Well, I have gone with Freo. It's over there. Yeah, it's over there, so I've gone with Freo. Melbourne don't travel. Last time Melbourne went over to Perth, they got a vlog on by West Coast. That's right. Yep. I'm not sure that Melbourne, I'd like to tip Melbourne. I reckon Melbourne will still make the fun, but I don't think they'll be Freo. Now to lose that 1.5% and get back to pick 1.01% in the draft, Carlton versus North Melbourne. Well, you've got to go Carlton here, but they're not playing great for you. They've lost a couple, they're big forwards, Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, Charlie Turno. Charlie Turno. He's not doing the job at the moment. What do you mean? They had 10 scoring shots last week. Last, yeah, where do you go together? Three goals, seven? Yeah. Exactly right. But that's his best week he's had for a month. You're right there. So they're not really firing that forward line of Carlton. So I still think the Carlton will be North. North, if they win this, they've got rocks in the head. Fair enough, okay. With that last week, by then winning that game last year, they gave up a Harley Reid. And steps as well, that won't make any difference. Only one player. But for the next 15 years, that Harley Reid is going to be a bug bear for them because they didn't get him. I must have heard commentators' podcasts, and that mentioned it as the Harley Reid match. At least 20 times so far this year, I reckon. And so I think that will keep going. Bridges, we're going to let you go, you can go and eat some of that hospital food for a few more days before you come home for your rehab. Thank you for jumping online. Correct. I appreciate it. I've got glad to come online and go football, go Saints. Yeah, well, you'll be sitting there watching tonight's game. I believe JW will be actually at the ground on this one, so, yep, JW will be there. Look for the bald guy. Yep. It's probably one of those around. That's right. All right. Thank you very much, Bridges. We'll leave you to it. We're going to jump to a sponsors break, you're listening. Thanks, Bridges. Good to talk to you, mate. Good to meet you. Game kicks off directly after the GVL on Saturday the 20th of July at the Marupna Recreation Reserve. 1FM sponsor, and welcome back to the AFL opening bouts course. Got Johnny Painter in the chair with me this week. No bridges, no Sydney. We had bridges on the phone there a few minutes ago to give us a hospital speech. It's probably like a coaching speech for North Melbourne or Richmond, ever already in the hospital bed ready to go. Good to hear you've had the knee done, but he's out of bed already and moving around. That's absolutely great. Yeah, I think he... They don't muck around. No, and apparently they wanted him, I said, "What are you doing standing on?" He said, "Oh, apparently they want me to see, you know, just if it moves and makes sure a little bit." So they're obviously working on the rehab side of things very, very quickly. So they certainly do. Alright, let's jump into Superstar, and then we're going to let Johnny, you get the beat to give the haircut this week. I can do that. Yep. Special part for you. We'll start with Superstar. Okay, Superstar, pretty simple this week because these guys just stood out quite easily over the rest of them. Even though one of them didn't win his game, he got it a bit for playing 200 other games and that is Patty Crips had a big day, couldn't get these Blues across the line, probably could have given the bond to his enemy in votes, but I didn't. I gave Patty Crips one, gave Locky Neil two, travelled over in Perth earlier in the year when Neil went over to Perth and the last few times he's done nothing over there. And that's... But he managed to clock up the sposles and a couple of goals and with only a 13-point win that made the difference, three votes has got to go to Errol Gordon, 41 leading the way out there. Heany was out and he just said, "No, that's cool, I can take up the load" and gave three to him. So Gordon gets three and I'm just looking to update my latter list and it doesn't change much. We've still got Harley Reid with six votes, the bond with five, gone with five and then lots of threes, fours and twos and ones, so that's where the Superstar's at. But it's haircut time, special guest Johnny Painter in the studio with us tonight as Melbourne supporter, let's find out what has bugging him. Get a real job, get a real job, get away. Fire away, Johnny. Well, the one that bugs me the most is the stand rule. It's applied every time someone takes a mark, but the allowance given to the player that's taken the mark to go sideways to run around or anything is absolutely incredible. And it really does give the poker's taken a mark, instead of kicking over the mark like we're used to, he can run sideways, he can go anywhere, handballed to someone coming past and the poor old bloke on the mark, he's got to stand there, he's not allowed to move until that umpire calls play on. And that really does bug me. The biggest thing is when the bloke has taken the mark, he's going back to take his shot, he can go sideways, but he'll take two paces to the left and try and get the player who's standing to move, or he'll try to handle it, since he does that to me, that's play on. And this should be whistled immediately, but none are, he can take another six or seven paces backwards and mark around and the umpire will finally see all that move it on, but he played on. And the same is you're feigned to handball or something, that's play on, and it really does annoy me. One of the bits that annoys me with it is the fact that everything that happens, the biggest voice out in the whole field is an umpire saying stand, stand, stand, it's almost like when they've got to go to a ruck contest, rucks, you know it's going to be the two ruckmen that are there because they're both standing in front of you, but hey, let's nominate them just to be short. So same with what they used to call the direction that they're going to move out from the bounce, you know. Well they still always do that. I'm going backwards. And I'm going out that way, yeah. But the other thing with the stand rule is the protected area seems to have disappeared. It seems different. It was actually one I was going to ask Bridges with because I noticed there was one there where, I can't remember what game it was during the week, but he had a shot from near the pocket and so he was in that, you know, on the boundary line with two or three meters to be able to run him before he got to the actual boundary line. But the guy was made to stand another 10 meters or more from the boundary line. So my question to Bridges was going to be where's the 10 meter protected zone? Is it from where he's actually taking his kick? Or if the boundary line's there, is it still another 10 meters from the boundary line? That's right. We don't know. So Bridges, if you're listening, I need the answer to that one next week please, because it bogs me. But you're right about the play on, but the stand as a player, it's great. If you take the mark, you've got control. You can run directly almost to him and at the last minute, just turn a little bit and you've got time to give you kick off. You can gain 10 meters. And I'm going to run around him and keep going, exactly. So I sort of always wonder, you see some take the five meters back, you know, the outside five, so they're allowed to move. Do they gain anything by being five meters further away? Not really. Does it allow? It is further away. But they can move, so they can't stand back and cover him if he goes sideways. Yeah. So I don't know whether that actually benefits you or not. I'd love to see some stats on whether that actually worked or not. That could be some homework for the stats, man. At the amount of 50 meter penalties they paid in the earlier days, was somebody encroaching that protected area. That seems to have shrunk. It really does. You know, the play could be two or three meters away now when he pulls play on and he's right on top of him, but yeah. And then it's, and if he, if he adds right, he calls play on and then he's just right there. It's almost like he's timed. He's run for that. Exactly. And they'll be like it was, and I, I was not one for, I didn't really like the amount of 50 meter penalties we were getting for being a bit too close to them. I thought that was just a bit weak. And so they've relaxed on that the umpires, which in some ways I think is a good thing. But again, it's just changing the rules to suit themselves. It is. Now, we've got a question for you. All right. We get on a plane after a game in Tasmania. Yep. What are the few things we're likely to need? Water. Water. Water. Lou. Lou. Yeah. So poor old freo. You drink. Yeah. Get on a plane for four hour flight back to a, to a Perth 30 minutes into the flight planes out of water. Oh, no. It's a chartered flight. So it wasn't their normal virgin one of the chart. Yeah. They did leave out which airline it was obviously was a major airline because it was only one plane. It was still a decent plane. But no water. So they're using basins and things to be able to go to the Lou and it was, yeah, apparently not the best of flights. Oh, no. So there's a massive huge explain going out to the, to the, this chartered company from the AFL. Yeah. And poor old dockers at a pretty average flight coming back across to definite water. Yeah. It is. Uh, it was, it was definitely a, well, I read it and I thought, nah, that can't be real. Right. When I first read it, it said either out of water, I thought, Oh, well, that's probably no good. Cause they're not going to be drinking cause they're, they're footy players. So they're probably going to drink lots of bottles of water. Yeah. And then as I read in, I realized, no, it's not drinking water. They're out of toilet water out of, out of everything, nothing to flush loose with. Even wash your hands. Oh, no. So yeah, um, look, some things have, uh, gone backwards, a bottle of water, tipped down there. That's for sure. Yep. But anyway, um, all right, let's have a look. What else is, is going through just a question for you on West coast Eagles coaching. Yeah. Now, Dean Cox was one of the ones marked to get the job. Yep. He said not interested. Yep. Fair enough. Do you think that's a smart move from him? Prostopy is. Yeah. Why is that? He knows what's going on over there. The culture seems to have been wrong. The one that they've just said, bye bye Sue, that my old old time is working on me with names. Simpson, Adam Simpson. Adam Simpson. Yeah. He was there for a heck of a long time and did he get stale or did the players get tired of him or, you know, what's the, the player, but then the players revolted. Yeah. I think so too. But sometimes in the past have a coach been dismissed like that, a new person from comes in and the next week they win. Well, it's, I think it was about eight out of ten or something, last eight out of ten. But anyway, it wasn't the B last week. No, it wasn't. Yeah. They got rolled, but Dean Cox, I think it's pretty smart by Dean Cox. Yeah. He's at Sydney for a start. Yeah. So he's focused, if he was to say, yes, I'm going to take the job. That means he might leave Sydney now. Yeah. He's possibly going to be a head assistant coach to a premiership team, which goes on his resume as a good thing. But I do feel that whoever's the next coach for the Eagles is a sacrificial lamb. Oh, for sure. Their rebuild is only just starting. They've got two, three years of hard stuff coming up ahead and they're probably going to fire that coach by that stage because the fans are going to be sick of it. It's similar to, when you go back into the history of the, you know, my team, Melbourne, in those glorious years in the sixties, when they won all the premiership and all those things, they didn't recruit well. And then they sacked Norm Smith as the coach and he went to North Melbourne. And next thing we know, they've got a better recruiting program. We had too many old players and just fell over and it was like that for years. Is that what's happened in the West? It is. Yeah. And they haven't sold. They haven't really recruited. Yeah. And they allowed them to retire rather than sell them. Yeah. And I think that's the issue. It's people like, in their current list, McGovern, if there's a team out there that needs a super strong defender, they need to sell him. Absolutely. It's no good to them now, but I don't care if they get an extra 20 goals kicked against them right now. It's not going to make any difference to their latter position. So cash in, get something for him well, but they can otherwise. He plays one, two more years, and retires a superstar, but what do they get for him? Nothing. Nothing. Yeah. They got a flag back in 2018. Yeah. Well, that's six years ago now. That's right. And that's over with. So anyway, that's Dean Cox is not going to go for the job. It's a big thing to uproot the family taking right across the country like that because he has a young family, doesn't he? Well, yeah. But he's already done that once to get to Sydney in the first place. They've fairly settled there now, though. That's the problem. Yeah, but history is all from West Coast, so it does go back that way. It could be going back home, yeah. And they're looking to revitalise the preseason football. So that's one of the things that has been up there, that Matthew's has been trying to reveal, vitalise the preseason comp and wants state of origin back on the agenda. And Statsman brought this up last week. So we might park this topic for tool when the Statsman gets back because he'll have us a lot more info on that. So while we're doing things, we're not too far from our NIRS coverage of tonight. So we will be off here about 7 o'clock-ish on the dot tonight, so that will be a little bit different to us normally realising that we're too late at 7.20 or something. The state of origin, I think it's not something new in this state either, or in our AFL rules because it's been going for ages. What's your view on it? Should there be a state of origin? We went to some of the old Victoria versus South Australia Games and Western Australia were young and they were terrific, and all Dougie Wade kicked in 10 goals in one particular game. It was just absolutely fantastic and the crowd, you know, the support, they were huge in those days. But it's a long time before NIRL had a state of origin. Yeah, and NIRL are happy to have state of origin and risk their best players. Two states. Two states, yep, that's fine, but they're the two states to play rugby league, yeah. Well, Victoria's clocking up the flags pretty quickly. Yeah. Sure. But we don't have a localised competition to draw from. That's right. But they're willing to risk their superstars. Oh, absolutely. I think the only reason the AFL don't do it is that they don't want to risk crips the bonds, all these guys, mid-season and risk them in playing football, so is there a way around it? I think at the end of the season, maybe, you know, at the end of the season, way back, the... Then it's footy trip time then. Yeah, but when you go right back during the final series, I remember going to the South Melbourne footy ground to watch the night match there, because the teams that weren't in the top four had a competition, and they played off of each other at the South Melbourne ground. This is going back in the 60s, but maybe that's something to look at, you know? I want to see it come back, but with kids now as a masters player, state of origin for me exists, because obviously last year we went up to Queensland and played in the Masters up there. That's right, yep. And Victoria Country come back there. We come back as Australian champions in that, it was great. Perth is coming up before long, so for old guys, a state of origin still exists, but let's face it, we're past playing, we're past being something that's going on TV, so going back and the game, the Eddie Whitten game became a joke match almost, because again, there was too many past players in there. That's right, and then they put celebrities in there. But we have a under 18s competition that is state of origin based, it already is. Get them together and place data of origin through our kids, bring them in in the mid season when we've got all these buys and put every AFL team on a buy that week, place state, place, state of origin competition. Even as we have that buy week going into the grand final, or going into the finals, put the kids on display, put every club, every other AFL player that wouldn't maybe normally see these young kids, watch them and, oh, wouldn't mind him on my team, and just give some exposure to this next generation, so live it through your kids' journey. The OTAC Cup days, you know, Collingwood picked up steel side bottom after a finals game with the Bush Rangers, you know, it was, he kicked in goals, next thing you know, he's playing for Collingwood. All right, well, our NRS coverage tonight will be Adelaide and it'd be Essendon vs Adelaide at Marvel Stadium, we'll talk about that one last because it'll give us the subs and everything like that by the time we get to it. So that takes us to 1.45pm, something we talked about last week, Johnny, game starting exactly the same time. Do you think there should be a bit of a break so that you can flick across at quarter time to the next game? Oh, see what they're doing, yeah. Or should they be for like the 2.145pm game start tomorrow? Yeah. I think one may be at 2 o'clock for 2.10pm and just split them up a little bit so that you can channel, do a bit of channel surfing. And Giants vs the Suns is the first one, 1.45pm at Giant Stadium, England Stadium, they call it the moment. Yeah, I think the Giants for me for that one. Stephen Coniglio is out injured and Xaviera Hellerin comes in, Ben Ainsworth is injured, and the few suspensions they decided they wanted to have a week off, Alex Davies after 12 tackles, and one of them was just a bit too hard, Malcolm Rosas suspended as well, Locky Wellart, David Swallow and Alex Sexton come in, and 100 games on either side will power for the Suns, and Brent Daniels for the Giants. They've got a couple of 100 gamers in there, yeah. Yep, so that's good odds on that one. I think the Giants for me for that one. It's probably a matter of this one's going to be won or lost in the forward line of the Giants really. Yeah. Can the Suns willpower those sort of guys, Sam Collins, can they stop the fact that we've got, whereas Jesse Hogan, Jake Ricardi, and now Toby Green finally waking up, can they actually stop them at the other end, Ben King doing OK, in the midfield. It's a tough midfield battle to pick really. It really is. Tom Green, Isaac Cummings, Kellam Ward's been really good in there, and Kieran Briggs has been solid as a rock. Callahan is going to be one of the top trade picks come later in the year, but across at the Suns, with Anderson, Matt Rail, Bailey Humphrey, those sort of guys, Sam Flanders in there, which midfield are you taking, Johnny? Oh, yeah. I don't know where that one. I'm going to go the Giants side just because the Suns can't win away from home. And they're technically still in a finals race. Yep. Let me find a bit of that question. It's our team's done. So the Suns, they're above calling Wood on the ladder by percentage, so they are still in a finals, but they're not going to make it if they can't win the away game. So it's exactly right, Chip, and the Suns and the Giants need to win just to keep themselves up and running. So I'm going to go with the Giants on that one. Yeah. I'm the same Giants for me. All right. And the next one is also at 1.45. Sin killed up versus the Eagles, $1.13, the Saints, $5.75, the Eagles, it's at Marble Stadium. It's at Marble, yep. And a few ins and outs. Unfortunately, played two brilliant games in a row of Phillipu, but it did come up sore his injury. I do remember what it was, and I've just got to refresh my memory there with it. Did his hip, and he's out for three to four weeks, so I knew it was something a bit major. So that's not good. Ben Patton omitted. Ari Schoenmaker omitted. Bit harsh. It wasn't really the day last week for a big tall defender. Liam Stockup, Brad Hill, and Hugo Garcia come back in. Coming in, yep. Two 50 games for Brad Hill, so a few flags with Hawthorne, some games with Frito, and being good for the Saints. Yes. Across at the Eagles, Liam Duggan, Jake Waterman, Elliot Yo, Tyler Brockman, all injured, Campbell Chesa, Patricelli, Rothham, and Jai Kully come in. That almost sounds like playing for draft picks that does. Yeah, it does, isn't it? Yeah. He's been very good all year. Let's have a look at their injury list and get some bits there, and ankle for Brockman, Duggan Concussion, well that's fair enough, and McGovern, Donnie's Ribs, Waterman. Yeah, there's only one to two weeks, so yeah. And Waterman with a knee, so that's their ins and outs. So the genuine injury, so it's just one of those things where... Yeah, I've got Waterman's got to pass the test, because he... Well, it's Joe's story. Joe's not even on the injury list, though, so that one's... Yeah. That one's arm resting. Yep. Got to go with the Saints in this one, though. Yeah, I think they can do it, actually. There's been good signs for him, Brad Hill, coming back in, along with Wengany Malera and Liam Henry, gives him a good rebound coming out of the back line. I know Liam Henry's listed as a forward, but he'll play right up the ground and he'll run back with the ball. Jack Higgins is doing good in the goal square, and Mason Wood listed as the wing, but been moved as far as Supercoach status, he's been moved to as a forward, so I want to see him kick butt because he's going to help me win some finals matches come up in Supercoach over the next few weeks. Zach Jones gets himself solidly into the side, probably won't be the sub this time, might get subbed out, but Hugo Garcia will probably go as the sub, cross at the Eagles, Harley Reid, Loxie Spot, the centre with Gimby and Cripps sitting on either side, and their forward line will Oscar Allen's back in, so Waterman out, an Allen in does help, Jack Williams will take up the other spot there at centre half forwards, and they'll be hoping that Little Fly and Ryan can give him some magic at Marvel Stadium, but for me, Saints on this one on a game that neither team really want to win, they're both this one during when does the cricket start, they're on when does the cricket start, or what dates Bathurst? Oh yeah, for sure, we'll talk about sport and road language, Johnny understands Bathurst. Yes, the boys from the boys, she's exactly right, 435 at MCG, so he hawks back at home against Collingwood, big game there, basically this is a 100% death game, whoever loses this their season is over, Cam Mackenzie managed Morrison omitted Finn McGinnis and Jack Guinam and come back in, scrimsure 100 games, and across at the Pies, Harley Harrison, Loxie Schiltz, Billy Frampton, Schiltz's concussion, Frampton omitted Harvey Harrison, young bloke just been given a rest, mixed day, Jeremy Howe and Lachlan Sullivan come in, so Sullivan's been really good as a young kid, I like him, Howe always solids up your back line and you can send him forward if you need to with their forward line stocks at the moment, probably good, but mixed day comes in and that gives them their target, that'll give them their centre half forward back, so hopefully he is good because his injury has been, I think it was a knee, I can't remember what it was, but he's been out for the whole year, my screens just decided to jump around in circles, okay, it's now decided to make noises, yep, okay, who are we tipping, a Hawks of the Pies, so really it's a 50/50 that one, I think I'm sort of more towards Collingwood than Hawthorne, as a Melbourne supporter, it pains me to say that but I like the ins from Collingwood because biggest fault on them has been you don't have a forward line and they bring in someone that maybe isn't the most talented forward out there, but at least he is a strong tall forward, so he comes in, but I still want to know why it's just the kick three goals, that's a good question and if Sicily can go and kick three goals then they're going to go again, I'm going to go the Hawks, that's it, sorry Pies, I am going cross through your season now, done, Hawks you're not going to make finals either but you get to take Collingwood out in the way, and if you're not going to make finals and you can stop someone else from doing it, that's always a good thing. I'll go with Collingwood on that one, yeah, all right, cats and Bulldogs, whoa, two teams, two teams have both had a win last week, both took out top player, top teams last week, that's $1.48, Bulldogs 2.59, Jay Clark omitted, Mitch Nevett comes back in, Harley Gallagher and Riley goes see it, both out, Adam Trillor and Aaron Norton come in now, two names back coming in there, yeah, I'm not sure, that's not going to let me do that, be able to click on that one anymore unfortunately, but Norton's injury was supposed to be long term, it was a shoulder all that, so they brought him back too soon last time and they're bringing him back now, so it's the last roll of the dice for the dogs, I think it's where we're at, again like Collingwood, Sons, Hawthorne, they're all on 36 points, there is no tomorrow, so I guess if you're bringing him back and he goes down and you lose, then it's not going to matter, Blitz Arbs and Deconing in the Rock, both taken on Tim English will be a good battle in that one, some of the experienced Trillor and Trillor coming back in with Libba should be more experienced than the cats can handle, but the cats forward line can be pretty deadly at the same time, young Shannon Neal, I really like the look of this kid, I think he can make it for them as that next generation forward, and who are you going to tip, you're going to tip and draw there, but no, I think I'd go for the Bulldogs, you can't sit on the fence, you have to pull one on the other. I'd go for the Bulldogs, I don't know why, but with Trillor and Norton coming back in, that's interesting. Being down at Cat Stadium, I say down at GMHPA Stadium, it's a tiny skinny ground. What is it, oh, actually it's called Skon Park, way back in the day, Skon Park, why would you call it Skon Park? It's time the ladies to bring Skon's up to the broadcasting box. Oh, fair enough, AFL Park was Arctic Park. Fair enough. I'm going to go to the cats, I think they'll get it over the doggies there. Port Adelaide Enrichment should be pretty straight forward this one, again a team, Port has to win, keep their finals hopes alive. The sad part about this weekend, Johnny, is that if all these teams pretty much win, the lock-in of the eight doesn't become a real lot close, that will lose one team, maybe. I am Max White. Over to Sport now and with a state of origin having come and gone, the race for finals places is heating up. The Raiders and Warriors both head into tonight's game in Canberra in awful form, needing a victory to stay and reach at the top eight. The Brisbane Lions have confirmed that young Ruckman Henry Smith will make his AFL debut against Sydney at the Gabba on Sunday, and Aussie cricketers Kim Garth and Meghan Schutt will feature in the Hundred Tournament in England. They replace national teammates Sophie Mooclu and Grace Harris who are out with injury that is the very latest in news and sport. Larry F. Nscorgs can stop a Marty and Logan McDonald so their forwards are going to be taken out of it. Dorko, he's in career best form. He is 35. He's old enough to come and play with us tomorrow at Marupna Oval, but he's still playing at top level 40. I think that helps their Ashcroft back in. Another game under his belt which is good and then you've got a Dunkley and Neil. The Ruck line, yeah you've got Meghan Ernie, you've got Dunkley and then Neil are going up against Grundy, Taylor Adams and Aussie Keeney. That's got to be fairly even there. Luke Parker's on the interchange. He's on the extended interchange at the moment so he may actually get into that one there. Taylor Adams hasn't been in great form though so if you're alone on him in the midfield you're in trouble. But you've got Grundy and Heeney in there and they've been playing reasonably well too. Young Matt Roberts could jump up in there. Losing Robodham does weaken. I know he's not one of their superstars but he's been a real ball winner for him and he's helped the Gordon's Warners. He needs to be able to be a superstar by doing some of the hard work so I'm going to jump on the Lions bandwagon for that one. I'll stay with Sydney so we'll see how we go with that. And that locks them into the top eight pretty much if they can get that one more win. Dockers versus Melbourne or your boys. Oh yep yep. Okay what are the odds on that one? My screen's working at super fast pace at the moment. Yeah like most things are the way the world's going at the moment. Dollar 34 the Dockers. $3.18 for Melbourne and ins and outs on that one are Draper omitted. Matthew Johnson who was the sub is out injured. Patrick Voss omitted. He was the other sub I think. Pierce Darcy and Brandon Walker come in and Luke Ryan plays 150 games a superstar freo defender. Tajhwa Woden has been good for a young kid but he has. Having a break and Jack Billings comes in. The ex-sainter who picked three and a draft and sitting 25th man in most teams at the moment. It hasn't performed. I think you're in trouble here Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson both into the side. Brandon Cox is back had four or five games under his belt now. You boys so I've got you in trouble on this one. It could be. Season defining game. Yeah but I've got to get me demons anyway I just can't. That's just me. You've got to get you demons fair enough. I'm 40 points on the ladder. If you lose we expect port to win. Bulldogs probably get beaten by the cat I think. Yeah. Gold Coast will get beaten. Kind of what it looks like. You probably only drop one spot. One spot on the ladder. Go from 8th to 9th and port will take your spot. So yeah not too much. But if they could put us above Fremantle so you know. That's right. If you win you will if you win you do go above Fremantle because they're 42 points you're 40 so four point game unless you decide to draw and then that throws everything out away. Exactly right. It can't be a good one. It shouldn't be draws. Okay Carlton and North Melbourne will round out the day. Sunday 440pm at Marvel Stadium and dollar 13 the Blues 575 North. The real question for North is going to be is how much did the Tigers lose by. Yeah. So in order to gain that one and lose that 1.1% extra to make finals. Brody camped and Mark Pitnet omitted so they go on with one Ruckman. Zach Williams and Jordan Boyd injured. Jesse Motlop, Jack Carroll, George Hewitt and David Cunningham come back into the side. Yeah. For North Curtis Taylor, Kellan Dawson and Toby Pink all got to boot. Griffin Loge, Zach Fisher and Robert Hanson Jr. come back in. Coming in. So some good ins for North Melbourne with Fisher and Loge helps them with height in the forward line. But you've got to you can't go past Carlton's list. But that one that's for sure. Ollie Hollands is one of their weakest players and he's still going to run on the wing. They're with him Jesse Motlop still well for a young bloke when he gets going. And Sam Walsh has been brilliant. Jack Carroll have been happy with. I've got this one. It's been a slaughter and with Carlton their percentage. What's Carlton's percentage? Only 114. It could be a big boost coming up. They need it because the cats are almost 111% behind them. So they're not far behind them. Brisbane do have more percentage than them. So if Brisbane, you know, it could actually take them. Well, no, they're on that by roster. So their percentage doesn't matter there. But staying above the cats means you get that home final and that's probably a big thing. If the Brisbane line could be Sydney, that could actually add Carlton Loge. Could put Brisbane above them. Brisbane could go to second in the latter. No, what, 14th or something only a few weeks ago? Alright, let's jump to our last game which is our NRS coverage tonight that Adam Watkins is giving me some strange look with that maybe they're not quite on air yet. But that's right. It's not quite seven o'clock so they won't be far away. Yeah, it depends on this computer thing across the world. Yep. Okay, let's have a look at this one. A bomber's $1.41, crows $2.86 bet responsibly if you are taking a gamble. Absolutely. Don't do it. Nick Hind, Peter Wright and Dyson Hepple all got the boot. Jayden Laverde, Jay Menzies and Todd Goldstein come in. Archie Perkins will be the sub for the bombers. Nick Cox plays 50th game. Yep. And Adelaide Michinj comes in, Tex Walker out managed. Braden Cook is the sub. And while Walker had a tough game last week, was in the game for tall forwards last week. He really didn't do much so maybe that game in the wet took a bit too much out of him and a bit of a rest. Can the crows get over the bombers and cannonball this season? I think I'd be going for the bombers with this one the way they've been playing although last week they came back at the demons in the last ten minutes of that game so it was yeah. The thing is, is bombers got that win two weeks to go against Collingwood. Yes. Which sort of secured their spot in the finals as long as they beat the lower ranked teams like they have been doing. Yep. This is one of those games where they have to beat the lower ranked teams. Yeah. But Riley Philthorpe, he was the sub last week and everyone laughed that he was the sub because he's about seven foot tall. Yep. But he came on the ground, kicked a couple of goals, gave them spark that they didn't have for a tall bloke. Yeah, exactly. It actually worked and a game that was just pouring rain. Philthorpe was pretty good when he did come on. Fog it, he's been quite good. Yeah, with it, Silego running off the half-fold flank has been really good and he'll chop into the middle of fair bit. Hugh Bond only playing his second game I think or he listed as the midfielder and Billy Dowling on the wing so they're extremely young Adelaide in their list. Rory Led, Jordan Dawson all there as well. So big game here. I don't have who our callers are so we'll have that. This is that's man territory when we know everything about NRS territory. Yep. But there but I'm going to tip the crows. I want the Saints to be able to have a win tomorrow and you know keep playing for draft picks but if you've ever noticed in the show Johnny or I don't give Eston in a real lot of love, you can't love them all and this is kind of one of those where there are two teams that don't really like much. By that you mean? Yep. But I think I'm going to tip the crows. I like their Endeavour last week with the tackle. At quarter time they could have rolled over there and then and let's Saints just keep winning the contested possession, keep winning the ball and instead they stepped up their pressure. The pressure gauge that they put up you know the little bit on the screen that's a pressure gauge. They'll both up towards 250 like they need a bigger gauge for a wet day. 109 tackles for Adelaide last week. If they can put 90 tackles on Eston in this week, Eston won't be able to move the ball freely. True. They'll have to stop, do that dodgy backwards sideways thing. Yep. Which was what they did to Sankilda and as soon as we started doing that they cut it off and. Well we did the same in the end of most of that game last week. Yeah exactly. Cut off that power to go through. So yes okay. Alright so that basically is it. Yep. And whoever's trying to steal my microphone. So we're having some interesting issues with our coverage at the moment. Yeah we are. It's about to lose control of my computer here whoever's pressing buttons. Adam S. We'll leave that go through. Alright we are just about done. I'm going to go with Adelaide. We're going to get a couple of songs lined up here. And now as we're aware there is a bit of internet issues across the place. So our NRS coverage we are hoping to have and we're expecting to have it. So do stay tuned online and we hopefully will have that kick in very shortly. We'll have a couple of songs and bits and then we'll be able to jump to that NRS coverage. And let me find Adelaide theme song to put in there. Essent theme song to put in there. Well Johnny for a throw together show that was pretty close to being a forefoot. We've done well mate. We've done well. So thank you. Absolutely great to be here. It's an education to watch what you do. It's really good to have you in. We often chat on a Monday morning a little bit about football. So it's just taken it to another point. Yeah exactly what it is. But no it was great to have you and I appreciate you putting your hand up at about 4.30. Some of that. Real preparation time when I was just saying hey everybody's sick engine and I don't want a forefoot. So thank you very much. To those that did offer or did try and fill in for me I thank you very much. You're always great when we do get to chat to Nipper or Digger or any of those guys. Now before we do go where now tomorrow I want to remind everybody and I'm going to play the little stinger first as we go in there with it. So I'll just play this now so everyone remembers and we can talk about this quickly Johnny. Come and watch AFL over 35's Masters football that is best. GV Giants take on the YouTuber, Emus in the Buck McFee Memorial game. The Emus currently holds the cup. Can the Giants win it back? With thanks to GV Giants major sponsor the pepper mill in you can listen live here on 1FM or come down and cheer the GV Giants on. Game kicks off directly after the GVL on Saturday the 20th of July at the Maripna Recreation Reserve. 1FM sponsor. Okay so yes, Giants tomorrow Buck McFee McMario game. It's the biggest game on the calendar for Masters football as far as our area goes. Buck McFee was a legend of both the Chuka and Shepherdens Club. He helped start the Shepherdens GV Giants and it was a president in a Chuka before that and Buck passed away and the game is definitely played with spirit. It's the game that everyone puts their hand up the play. We'll be over at Maripna tomorrow, straight after the Maripna Cats play a Chuka in the GVL. We'll be running out onto the ground out there and we're going to have the great JW and the rest of them calling our game for it which is fantastic. Yes, and then we're going to have the great video team be able to do the video of it and we'll be able to get that up on the Facebook page on the next day or so afterwards which will be really, really good but to those tomorrow that are going to commentate and call the game thank you very, very much from a as a Giants player to you know that's never going to be playing seniors GVL level. It is great to actually have you guys come and call and I'm pretty sure Jay Dub and the team will have a bit of fun in the commentary box there at the expense of us maybe moving a little bit slower than they're used to watching a game of football but we'll be there with it. Do come over to Maripna if you do come early then definitely watch the GVL if you come late there'll be nobody standing at the gate taking money Giants don't charge for that so by the time it gets to us it'll be free entry so come across there and I'm sure that there will be some some beverages still being sold and all those sort of things so yep we're looking forward to it and thank 1FM for that coverage. Right now we're going to jump across to a couple of songs the boys are still working with the technical side of things for the NIRS so don't believe the coverage is quite kicking. Well we're online and that's one of the things that matters at the moment so thank you very much to Golden Valley Massage with you guys we wouldn't have the sponsorship and anyone that's picking up those little injuries at football go and see Michael over there he will help you sort them out.
