You're listening to a 1FM podcast. Ah, the advisor established in 1984 from informative political and council updates to sport and human interest stories and everything in between. It leads the way in community news in the Goldbun and Murray Valley. Will it be Will or Jeff joining Plemo today on 98.5? Let's find out right now. Well, I've already given it away. It's Will. Hey, young Will. Well, thanks for having me. Yeah, not too bad. Thanks for hanging on the line there for me. Now that the advisor jam-packed again, latest edition is available online as we speak from your website. From Page, Antiques Roadshow. That's right. We've got our Mayor Shane Sarley. He visited a local business, Aubrey Antiques, and it's all regarding an Antique Roadshow. We're just coming to Shepparton. Aubrey Antiques is putting this on this Sunday. So if you have precious antiques or treasures at home, this is a perfect opportunity to learn more and discover their worth with free appraisals by value up John Simpson. And so that'll be interesting. Have you ever been hooked on that Antiques Roadshow television show? Oh, absolutely. It's quite interesting. And I think we've all got some things that have been passed down through the family. Some fairly straightforward items like a nice dining room table or a piece of other piece of furniture or something. And there's other quirky items that have been passed down in many generations. So it's very interesting, I think. Yeah. Now, what in the world are you talking about? Yes, well, this is all about the ward system for this year's Greater Shepparton City Council elections coming up in October. It's going to look vastly different this year with the City of Greater Shepparton being restructured into nine distinct wards. Voters will choose a single representative from their ward, resulting in nine councils representing the one ward instead of the current nine councils. For the entire municipality. So it's an interesting scenario. And the wards are named things like Midland, Lower Gold and Pine Lodge, McKeown, Balaclava, Poplar, Chiala, Gobion River, and. We're going to be able to say that again. Yes. Thank you for that. Janha Gertie. Janha Gertie. Yeah, which is, I must find out the many of that one, but it probably means middle of town. I don't know. Well, what I can guarantee, I can tell you what it means. It means, no, I can't tell you what it means. I've got no idea. It sounds Italian. What was that? It sounds Italian. It certainly does. And quite frankly, with that wonderful Italian heritage here, it wouldn't be unusual to have a name like that, would it? So what in the ward article does it sort of explain a bit as to how it's all working, does it? Look, it does. There's an article there on the front page that turns over to page 12 that gives people even more information. So I mean, what people should do is just have a quick look. The other thing is, is people should jump on the Greater Shepherd and City Council website and search it up because all the information they need to know is there. Importantly, the wards each represent just over 5,000 voters, Greater City of Greater Shepherd and municipality voters or ratepayer voters. So they're all equal in votes as such, which is a good thing. And look, it's an interesting thing because I suppose each candidate is tired. They live in their ward and they're tied to the best interests of that ward. You know, what's happening in terms of future plans for that ward, whether there needs to be, you know, streetscaping done and things like that and planning if it's sort of in an award that has a lot of housing development. You know, how is that going to look in 5 to 10 years or 20 years? So it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. I'm not sure whether it's a good thing or a bad thing, but obviously the powers of B have decided that it's the right way forward. And we'll, you know, time will tell. Yeah, what's his space or what's his space? Now, that's not the only article. You've got more articles in there today. That's right. We've also got a really important article regarding the TAC road safety round being played this weekend throughout the, well, throughout Victoria. It's the football and netball clubs are banding together to send a strong message about road safety. And we've got an article there about a special training session that happened at Chevron United football and netball club recently. It's, as mentioned, it's ahead of the statewide TAC round coming up in round 14, which is this weekend. So players heard from club secretary Sharon Odweier, who sadly lost her son in 2021 in a road crash. And she was joined by Senior Constable Lee Johnson, who was there to endorse the message and the importance of driving safely and looking out for your mates. There's lots of messages there. It's all about, you know, when getting to and from training, slow down to get there safely. And they want that message spread throughout the region and beyond. And hopefully, look, if it even goes a little way towards saving one life, it's all worth it. And Sharon's very brave for telling her story and what must have been an absolute and still be a very, very traumatic experience. Yeah. Yeah. Keep it safe on the roads out there, folks. That's it. And moving on, Plummer, we've got an article there about Glenn Turner, who's a very dedicated employer at our local Australia Post. Right. Yeah. About 50 years of service. I'm not sure whether you guys covered this recently, but... How do you mind the show? Me and a few words. Yeah. Oh, is that right? So actions speak louder than words. Long time in business. Yeah. He's talked up 50 years of service, which is incredible. When I first started work here at the Advisor as a bright-eyed and bushy-tard 18-year-old straight out of school, I remember Glenn at the Post office when I used to have to go and get the mail and things. And he's going, still going strong, so credit to him. It's a bit of a background story there. Plummer, we've also got some information about, we've got our GMC, $25,500 giveaway. I still haven't won. Yeah, sure. Well, keep entering. I am. I tell you what, it's wonderful. I speak to a number of the winners each week, and they are extremely excited. So don't stop entering. We've got our $5,000 grand prize draw, which is just around the corner, and that's happening. We're in the last 12 days of this year's competition, so people should have a look at the list of approximately 150 businesses around Shepard and Maroon, and Tatura. And all you have to do is spend $10 or more, and you're in with a chance to win. So that's an important one. We've also got our briefly noted section, which is a snapshot of some news items. That's on page 8, and it's well worth a read. If you're short on time, just go straight there and get a bit of a snapshot of what's happening. We've got an article there about the new financial year, bringing some relief with some tax cuts, which is always welcome news. And there's also a final installment about an article there from Tabish Ahmad, who's been writing a series of articles regarding nuclear power in Australia. And so that's an interesting one. And there's a report on the winners so far in our $25,000 giveaway. We've got an article there about a group of people raising money that's headed more than a splash of generous spirit. And that's basically taking up the fame dice bucket challenge. There's a group of people there from South, Shepard and South Wickerland who have raised money. We've got letters to the editor. Quite a few letters there this week. Ooh, there is anything juicy? Look, that's a very good question. There's usually some good things in here. Although it looks to say there's quite... It looks like someone's on a rant. It's a very long letter. Yeah, I was going to say it is a very long letter. I haven't read it yet. Yeah, but it must be an interesting one because we've given it a heap of space. And there's also an article there about Shepard and welcoming the National wheelchair basketball league for Epic Weekend. Is the heading? Awesome. Yeah, so that's exciting. And another event coming to Shepard, which is bringing people into our great region. And there's an article also about repurposing Darrangal. As we've reported on a couple of times, Darrangal has been sadly and controversially being closed at the end of next month. Member for Northern Victoria, Wendy Laval, has came to explore alternative purposes for the site. It's calling upon local residents to have their say in a survey before taking her advocacy to the state government. So that's a great opportunity for people to create minds out there to have a think about what we could repurpose Darrangal for. Yeah, look, off the top of my head, I think it would make a fantastic, low security prison. You know what? I think a lot of people agree with you there. And you just nailed it. There's lots of people there that have just fallen out of work, and they'd be very grateful for it. Oh, yeah, absolutely. And there's a few things happening in this state of ours that people are scratching their heads wondering what the powers would be doing it. Yeah. And that's yet another one sadly. But anyway, hopefully we can get a good outcome. And hopefully the people employed out there have been, you know, helped through this process because from what I gather, I know one or two people directly affected their, they had no idea what was happening until it was announced. So anyway, we've got to wrap our arms around them and get them look after them, make sure they transition into other roles. And we've also got an article there regarding a raffle for hope charity and prizes. And it's all about the Shepherd and Club charity raffle, which is set to sparkle once again this Friday with proceeds going this month to the incredible horses for hope. And Wayne Sutton, manager Wayne Sutton and his team at the Shepherd and Club are doing a great job there, raising money for those sorts of local charities and horses for hope is a very good example. One of those local charities. Fantastic. And look, we've got lots more in the advisor. We've got trades and services. So anything we need doing around the house, there's lots of options there. We've got sport and lots, lots more. And we've got the advisor. It's rowing out. It should be in people's letter boxes today, whether permitting, which I think we've got a pretty good day ahead of us. So, and some people might get it tomorrow. But as you wisely point out, it is available online for those people that want to read a digital edition. Yeah, and more than a couple of cups of coffee in there. Lots of reading for the day in the Shepherd and Advisor. Well, thank you very much, Will, for taking the call this morning and bringing us up to date with the fantastic advisor. Thanks for all your help with it as well. Yep, now if you could just go and dock to those winners on the GMCU $25,000. So I want to give some stuff away and I need to win that to do it. If you could just maybe tickle the entry box a little bit for me. Tickle the entry box, or that's a bit difficult because there's about 59,000 of them so far. And the famous saying, guys, you've got to be in it to win it. So you're getting those entries in. Yeah, you can't find the needle if it's not in a haystack. That's correct. Thanks a lot, mate. You have a great day. Thanks, mate. You too. See you next time. Will Adams from the Advisor, the Advisor, dropping your foot? Well, it's live right now and it could be in your letterbox very, very soon. You've been listening to a 1FM podcast.
