Hi and welcome to Sport and Road, the weekly motorsport show with thanks central tire service. This is a part of the Super Saturday Sports Show that you can listen to and keep up to date with all things happening on the courses both locally and around the globe. This show is on a weekly basis on a Saturday throughout the year and is hosted by John Hainter and Craig Stott. It's on 1 FM, Shepard and Radio, so let's have a listen to see what's happening in the world of motorsport this week. Folks it's Saturday morning, sport and road time, time for a little motorsport after last weekend up at Townsville. I'm Johnny Pader, I'm Craig Stott, good morning John, good morning listeners. How are you? I'm good thanks Craig. Yeah it's an interesting week. How do you like the rain? Oh it's a good bit of drought and dripple isn't it? This rain is affecting a good drought. Oh yeah absolutely yeah. Talking about rain last weekend up at Townsville. Yeah had you like the rain that come down only on quarter of the track and it melts. Exactly, exactly. That happens all over the place isn't it? It does even at the Magic Mountain. Oh that's very easy to happen up there. You can be sitting up on the top of the mountain beautiful sunlight the bottom is in fog so it's you know I turned up at 2-3 o'clock in the morning the first time with the wife and the kids and it was bitterly cold and snow was falling. That afternoon they were on top of the mountain and they got sunburned. Exactly yeah. I remember one particular year it was foggy down on the bottom you couldn't see anything and Mr. Griner the president or the premier of South Australia was supposed to arrive at X amount of time and they couldn't get him in there and then I think we're about 100 meters behind. This is dirty great big chin. We got the lance blew all the tents all over the place. It was bits going everywhere and out he got and they guarded him off down there. They couldn't land him at the bottom of his fog. But she made a mess with that helicopter. Oh yes. Unrelievable. So one of those that did first Avalon air show and the people were being blown everywhere. Exactly. They had two at Phillip Island. Actually they took off and they went nose to tail and they were like two broggers having a dance. They were clever the way they flew to things around and around and up and down and nose to tail and back off and then one of them lands open to back door and two blokes jumped out and dragged out a little little model of a chin look out of the back. She was clever. They did that at the opening of the first Adelaide. They certainly did. No worries at all. That was really good. Yeah they actually made the helicopter right down to yep straighten. Yep. It was mind boggling. It was unbelievable. Fantastic what they did. Yeah another video I saw recently was a bloke with a radio control model helicopter and he had the thing upside down by on his grass. And of actual fact we've been watching keeping up with the Joneses. Yeah. From the up at the farm at Dunne cooler bar. How they how they muster these cattle and helicopters. Obviously the only way to do it. Yeah I for sure. Yeah. Yeah. A good helicopter and a quad bike and yeah exactly. I'm believing in that. Oh yeah. But what a race we had. Well we did. Yes. Not a bit of a freight train but yeah what sound like I had to tackle him. He was a wonder where the parodies gone now. That's it. That's it. That's it. So how's your week being? That's been good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let me guess I reckon you had a coffee. We did. Yesterday morning. Friday morning. Yeah coffee out at IGA. We did. My daughter did. My wife was there. My wife was there. We got home and the power was back on which is great. I wondered why you were able to come and have coffee. It was really strange because I've got up. It's just on seven o'clock. The heat is time to start at seven o'clock and that's cut in and was running. And I've come out and the first thing I do is wash my hands because I've got to go and do my blood test first up. So I wash my hands. Hit the button to turn the kettle on. Go and do my blood test and I can't hear the kettle going. I think I wonder what's wrong here. So I go out and it's just the lights on. It's not making a noise. So I put my hands on the side. It was a little bit warmer. I thought, well, this is strange. So I said, oh, I think the kettle's died. So she's she's come out and she's not a mess around with and couldn't get anything about it. She's leaned over and turned the exhaust fan on over the the hot plate. The exhaust fans come on and started running, but the light wouldn't work. But that was the other way. The light came on. That's an LED. The light came on, but she could hear the fan turning very slowly. Oh, that other something wrong here. So I've gone out, checked the meter box. It's still there, was it? We're still there. And the supposed to spark meter was absolutely dead. Not a glow in it. Not nothing. Absolutely cold and out. So I've gone around the other side and checked the hot water service and that's the LEDs flashing in there saying there's a problem with what's going on here. So I'll come back and saw it. Next thing I know, the light went off. We still had power. The light went off. Then it came back on again. And then it started to go on and off. On and off. The what the heck. So I've built the straight out of the fuse box and I've turned it off real quick. Check the phone and there's a message to power call. We know there's a power outage in our street. Oh, great. So we've got solar panels on the roof. So I think they might have been interacting somewhere. But they're supposed to shut down if there's a power outage. You would think so. But you know, we had a coffee, nice jelly slots. We did. We did. Got back home and power was all good. Turn everything back on. The best thing I saw was everyone got up, grabbed a trolley. Oh my go shopping whilst I'm here and you shut it in your boots. No, no, that's good. She said, I don't worry about his card. Mine's linked to his. He's playing anyway. Yeah. We only have one bank account and that's in both names here. We both have cards. That's good. But you trained the world. She came back with nothing. Exactly. Yeah. You did well. I worry at all. So I know my place. That worries at all. So yeah, I've had an event for a week. I've got the grandkids meant to be coming up and I've been in hospital and they're out. Now the sun is down and out. Oh, right. Yeah. I've got a feeling they'll be turning up. So then we'll get it. We'll get it. The station will get it. Pub will get it. Exactly. I hope not. Yeah. Well, it's just that we could have bought one of them in here with you this morning. It would have been fun. Yeah. Speaking to a few people, different bits and pieces happening. We'll get into a bit later. But I've got to get some tyres on the Commodore. Where are you going to go for that? I reckon good year auto care at Wall Street Street. I reckon that'll be the place here. Blue station. Yeah. Now, central tyres. Talking about blue stations, we've got an email address. Yeah, we do. We can have them in here. We're going to send an inquiry offer a request off and see if we can get one of the officers to come and sit in one of the highway patrol and talk to us what he's sort of law and isn't in vehicles. A few things for me like the Wall Street, the boulevard into Night Street where there's a unbroken white line in the middle of the road that people cross that because there's an arrow inside it. And it is illegal to cross an unbroken white line. That's right. I've put a little bit further along opposite the street. There's a broken line. True. But I've got headlights flashed at me the other day because I dare to stay out and on the right line and turn where I should have them. This four-wheel drive/slash needs headlights at me. Yeah, I'm going to find out. You've got a console. They've got two cup holders in it. So that means you can have two cans of drink or two bottles of drink or whatever. Does the law stipulate non-alcoholic or alcoholic because you're not allowed to drive if you're over 0.05 for sure. Yep. We all know that that is law and we all stipulate. Yeah, you've got to be quite that. Definitely under. Yeah. That's right. So far, not that I have. Because you can get nicked if you are over. If you're exactly 0.05 you can get nicked. Yeah, that's right. And also now I want to find out, okay, my age is above 60. And I've never been caught with 0.05, been a good boy or a lucky boy, one of the two. Yeah. And if I got caught and I blew 0.05, is that automatic loss of license seeing I've got a clean record? And also does that mean I get a interlock, I believe, loss of license and also I believe interlock. That's right. And there's $1,000 a year. So where's the little give way sort of thing. And in this state at the moment, there is none. It's interesting you watch the motorway patrol and some things and then other. I see it on TV. Yeah. They impound cars for the smallest little thing. But then you watch the Kiwi one and they will actually take the driver's home. It's totally different. Yeah. We were in Wagga and the young kid bought an SS. How he got it. And I think dad paid for it and he had to bring it home. And he dropped the wheel. He's out of Wagga motors. Yep. And the boys in blue were dropping their vehicles off to get service. Thank you. Come in here. So they talking about under age motorbikes heading up the road. Yep. And please impounded the car. Was that in our driveway? No. No. That's right. And as we got a hole in the driveway out the back from a very skinny back to where one of these clowns has decided they'll burn out. Anyway, he lost his car, the brand new car for a month. Yep. And when he come and picked it up and paid, you know, we had to tow it away. Yeah. And when he come and picked it up, he took off out of our panel shop in the street and there they were. He's done the same again. Yeah. They're waiting for a loss of car. Yep. They crushed it. Yep. No worries. I understand that one. Yep. For sure. We weren't going to learn. Yeah. But anyway, central tyres. Good. Yeah. Let's get back on the track. Yeah. So I can get some four tyres on this Commodore and drive it around. Yeah. Be safe because Karen's working. We're going to use one car or we'll have the other. Yeah, exactly right. Yeah. So could you auto-care? Got a full set of batteries, automotive batteries, which is good in this weather. Yeah. And it's not really the battery that makes a headlight. One headlight work and one is not working. No, that's a headlight, not working. That's a globe or something like that. That's correct. Yes. It's just absolutely. Even they've said people can come in and say one headlight's not working. Can we look at it? Yep. And they do it straight away. Exactly. Because it's the safety item on the line. And they have them in stock. That's exactly right, it's obviously. So there's no real excuse for that. No, there's not. But they're fantastic. Oh yeah. People and Rod and Rod's a proprietor and Tim's one of the people who run the show in there. And I remember back in Andrew's days, it's central that Tim was another one of the fidders and Mechanic. Yeah. A lot of work to get. But I like it how they all help each other out. They back each other up now. And that's a bit different. I've worked in quite a lot of workshops and mechanical shops and sales days. Some of them will get their knickers in or not if you did that to them. But not central. No, no. They'll actually call Rod. I've got these ones on Fred. Come and check these for me. Thank you. No worries. Yep. That's right. Hmm. Yep. It depends what color and shape their knickers were. Oh, this is true. Yeah. True, true, true. And we've got another sponsor too. Especially on this weather. The Cheven and Motorcycle Group. Yes. Yeah. No one really run around on a motorbike now. But you can. People do that. You can. Good good weather gear and a bunch of waterproof. They are. Yeah. Heated grips, heated seats, all those sort of joys. It's good fun. But if you're out in the farm and it's wet like this, if you've got a good four-wheeler or side-by-side, you're going to get into everywhere with that. Any problems? That's exactly right. Fantastic. Yeah. They've got the segue range at the vanilla roadside. And they've got all of the can-am range at the Purcell Street so I'd say, yeah, they've got everything you need really. Well, that is good. Great people. Really good to deal with. I guess what else. Hmm. My bungalow. The kitchen bench is in. Ooh. Fantastic. Great. The stove is in. The sink is now in. Everything's all plumbed up. Yep. There he goes again. Yeah. So fortunately. Hmm. Yeah. But anyway, it was fantastic. Now we're carrying on. We're going to start setting the kitchen up. Good. Now we've got extra stuff that we've got in there. Yep. That's after we play around a little bit here. Let's talk about a bit car racing. No worries, because our next V8 Supercars event is the Sydney, the night ones. That's excellent. The correct title is the Panasonic air-conditioned Sydney super night. Yeah. Dot com. I forward slash New South Wales, you know. Exactly right. Yeah. So let's just say it's the Sydney super nights coming up. And it's next weekend. That's going to be an absolute beauty. Sydney fans will get more super car action. Well, we can get the fans too if we fly up there. You know, there's a flight that leaves here every morning. It leaves Bendigo every morning at just a little bit before seven flies over here at about five past seven. And it's going straight to Sydney. Yeah. From Bendigo. From Bendigo. Yeah. No worries. I picked him up on flight rate a couple of times. Yeah. Little one of the smaller ones. Yeah. One of those. I know there's a ledge at the ship. Yeah. No worries at all. But then that flight comes back probably about up on five, six o'clock in the evening. So if you wanted to fly up to Sydney, you could do that very easily. You could do his drive over to Bendigo. It's not that far. And a lot of people drive over to Aubrey and get the computer flight up too. But the super cars fans could do that real easy. Right. There's a night race and it's why light headlight action. There's top 10 shoot outs to fit and get figure on feature on both Saturday and Sunday. The schedule for the Panasonic air conditioning Sydney super sprint has been locked in, headlined by more super car action. And the only racing underlights for the 2024 season. Sydney motorsport park will come alive on July 19th to the 21st with the famous Eastern Creek venue. So you keep saying it's the street. Yeah, that's the street. Yeah. So host stunning super car action underlights on all three days of the event. Sunset in Sydney is approximately 507 local time. And how Sydney fans will get a marked increase on on track super cars action this year with a boost mobile qualifying section, a top 10 shoot out and a 200 kilometer race to be held on the Saturday and the Sunday of the events. Supercars will hit the track for the first time for a nighttime practice session on the Friday, giving fans the chance to catch all 25 fire breathing supercars underlights after work. The spectacular a night race race 15 will commence at 7.35 pm. The 51 lapper will be held following sunset after darkness. Sunday's race 16 will commence at 405 past four with drivers racing into twilight underlights. Conversely supercars were only on track for the Saturday and Sunday last year with Saturday's event preceded by a knockout qualifying. Sunday meanwhile saw a single 15 minute qualifying session on Sunday followed by the shorter 140k race which still so started early at 3.30 pm. Support categories in action at the at Sydney Motorsport Park include Porsche career recap, Australia, V8 super use, touring car masters and TGA, TGA, TGA, R8 car. Hmm good. Events going to be broadcast exclusively live and free on Foxcell and KO. Highlights will be broadcast on the 7 network and 7 plus and international viewers can follow the action on Superview. Now where is it at? Then we've got 1840 which is 640 to 650 super cars. It's TV track time. That's interesting. I wonder what they do there. Recording different drivers going around. That's going to have different cars. Exactly. TV time, yeah. Okay, Saturday. Saturday July the 20th. Here we go. Quarter past 11 to 5 past 12. We've got the events. Yeah, it's a safety course. I keep thinking of the Flintstones every time I see Gazoo. Then 625 to 650 Porsche career a cup. That's their race one. And 1935, which is says 535. 19, now 775. Super cars. Race 3. Porsche career a cup. Race 3. Then at 16.05. 5 past 4. We have the super cars. Race 16. Another 51 lap. But that's going to be good. Absolutely great. How about winch cup? Yeah, well, Jamie, winch. Yeah, winch cup laments triple eight's worst day of the year. This is by James Parvey by supercars.com. Jamie, winch cup laments triple eight's worst day of the year. Move round 24th after one lap crash. Brock Feeney seventh after. Incident. Yep. And triple eight outscored by Ticford, W.A.U. and Pennride in Townsville. Yeah. Jamie winch cup was called on triple eight to analyse the pace deficit that ultimately led to the team's worst day of the year. After having at least one driver on the podium in 12th of the first 13 races of the season, triple eight nearly had both drivers wiped out on lap one on Sundane Townsville. In a dominant start, the 2024 triple eight has scored a staggering 88% of all points on offer in the first five rounds with eight wins and five one two finishes. Come Sunday and Will Brown's championship lead was slashed after he finished 24th following a turn three incident collision with David Reynolds. Well, Brock Feeney was nearly taken out at the next corner. Feeney's was sixth in the field, approached turn four but dropped to 11th after being escorted into the barriers by Anton D Pasquale. He survived the crash and recovered to seventh. After opening up a commanding 920 point teams championship lead after Darwin. Triple eight was outscored by Ticford. Walking short and ready and knighted and Pennride in Townsville, which has monsters and cam waters, winning back valuable ground on Brown and Feeney. Before Sunday's race, team boss Jamie cited struggles with the tyre batch as the reason behind triple eight struggles and retaliated afterwards that the team just didn't have the pace. We had our worst day of the year. Unfortunately, in a supercar land, wind cup set on the slick call down lap podcast. We just didn't have the pace ultimately. It all goes back to just we didn't have the pace. Why we didn't have the pace? Well, that's really understand debrief wise. Yeah, exactly. That was the story of the day and we would just compare it even enough. Team committed to a two stop strategy for Feeney, who believed he had a third or fourth place car without the lap one drama. We elected the two stop strategy and from what I can see, the three stop was the flavour of the month and it was the go today. Super halls, supercars hall of fame are wind cup added. But high risk though, as if you have one safety car, you're in trouble. So yeah, as I say, it wasn't our day. Wind cup admitted the team's street circuit strength had fallen away in the Gen 3 era. Giving the team has won five of 16 races since Newcastle last year, all coming at the hybrid Albert Park Grand Prix circuit. We've traditionally, we've been strong here in the Gen 2 era, but the Gen 3 is almost a quite opposite, he said. And how well decided to set the cars up don't really suit this place anymore. We struggled here last year and we're struggling again this year. So we don't want to do three in a row. That's for sure. We'll make sure we'll do our homework when we go back to the garage to make sure when we come here next year and we won't have such a hard time. Brown leads Feeney by 78 points in the driver's standing with 851 points ahead of WIE in the team's championship heading into Sydney. And you notice why the boys didn't do burnouts in Townsville? Because a lot of those cars are going, they're not coming back to Melbourne, they're supposed to go straight to Sydney. They're going straight to Sydney, so they want them straight as possible. They want to stress the components with burnouts here. So that's a bit smart thinking, you know. Now from supercars.com, DJR boss labels Townsville race phase frustrating. After qualified towards the front and both races, DJR was unable to capitalise in the race. And this is from James Pavey at supercars.com. Both DJR cars would drop from grid positions, will Davidson 4th to 8th, 5th to 12th, and Anton 13th on Saturday after a Saturday day in F. Dick Johnson Racing CEO David Noble wants his team to replicate our best pace on the regular basis after both cars went backwards at the Townsville races. The Shell V-Power Mustangs were quick over one lap with Will Davison, who claimed Saturday's provisional poll and Anton V Pascuali reaching both shootouts. Davidson was in a podium contention on Saturday but came on 8th, come Sunday, and the 2013 Townsville winner fought in the top five early on but finished 12th after a long battle with Paul Sitterjack Lebrock. Anton started seventh in both races and was unlucky victim in a three white incident on Saturday. The number 11 then finished 13th on Sunday. The results hurt DJR in the team's championship, with the Ford squad dropping from third to fifth behind Tickwood and Ben Wright. Noble was called on his team to convert in the races saying in four communications it's been frustrating. We keep putting the cars into the top 10 and getting a reasonable grid spot but not converting in the races. We're partway there and partway not good enough here. It's not going to win races or championships for us. We have to replicate our best pace on a regular basis, keep digging into a data, look at the best parts of what we're achieving and keep moving forward. Of the Ford teams, DJR on 228 was outscored by Tickford, 510, Walking Shore AU, 423 and Penn Wright Racing on 396. With the Blanchard Racing team just behind on 207. The Pascale Echo Noble's comments saying on the broadcast we're battling out there. We do 88 lips and end up willingly half a second apart after 88 laps. It's not a good feeling we're just struggling for speed in the race. The car just didn't have what we needed to make the race work around here which is a flow, tyre life consistency. Next weekend the season resumes Sydney where Deepa Squally claimed the Sunday podium. Before we go a little bit there, a bit of gossip that Anton might not be with the J.A.N.X. Interesting. We're starting the silly season, who's in contract and who's not. Keep on working, keep listening folks. We shall let you know as it happens. That's the start of the silly season. A little bit more to bring up, but I think we're running out of time. We'll do that for next week. Rolex looks like they might lose the timing rights for Formula One. Take an over by Take Hoyer. Exactly. It'll be interesting. There's a couple of other companies involved in there that aren't anything to do with motor racing. But no, quite interesting. Jess Dane has sold her 30% share of AAA2. Now it's the first time not in Danes. No, no Danes, yeah. No, but it's in a Winch Cup pants. Not for sure. No worries at all. Anyway, Johnny paid us out to say bye-bye for now folks. We'll have a safe weekend. Have a great weekend. Stay safe. Be safe here at these cars. Headlights looked at. It's not hard to do. No, it's not hard to do at all. And we'll see you all next week. This is Sport and Road signing off for another week. We'll be back next Saturday. Bye-bye from Johnny Painter and goodbye from me. Bye for now folks.
