Welcome to Square Gators, the local harness racing show. This is all a part of the Super Saturday Sports Show that you can listen to as to keep up to date with all things happening locally and around the world in the world of harness racing. The show is on a weekly basis on a Saturday throughout the year and is hosted by local harness racing identity Daniel Hibbert on 1 FM Shepherd & Radio. Welcome back to the Super Saturday Sports Chart 1 FM 98.5 live and local sport. We are in Square Gators of course where we always try and find a winner gamble responsibly. As always of course Dan Hibbert will be calling at the Meadows this evening. First of 12 getting out into 8 634 p.m. of course the maturity classic heats and five ball heats there this evening. We've got Melton this evening where Dan got the quality and of course the multi last time that we sort of ventured there. Of course we got racing today at Corfield on a soft 7. Ran week on a soft 7 and the new market July Cup is tonight in England as well a lot to talk about the week that was in harness racing as well. As I welcome the voice of RSN Dan Hibbert, how are you Dan? Very well stacked yes very well. It's been a relatively quiet week from a harness perspective. It's one of those rare events that we see but yes it's been a good week busy calling as always and best sand down in Bendigo the last couple of nights and off to the Meadows tonight for one of the big nights of the year. It's always good when you get a group one series and you get eight heats so all the winners go through to the finals and it's a time audit series the maturity so really looking forward to that meeting tonight. Now I want to thank you before we go any further for last week at short notice and we had to cancel the show last week so thank you for your understanding there Dan and thank you for your support in that regard. Not a problem. Now we had a bit of a fill up two weeks ago didn't we? I sort of think I ticked four at five best price was down to clear at six or seven dollars and you got the quality and multi that means that we're going to do terrible today anyway. I did see those some of those results and kept an eye on those particularly yours throughout the course of the afternoon before I I think I was calling here at Shep so it was yeah it was a big night plenty and big day so plenty of winners tips so hopefully we can repeat the dose for the listeners this morning. Now Dan I believe we're talking off air about now we know that now they've got the new harnesses and sort of locked in to this new programming structure and I believe there's some encouraging figures early. Yeah some good figures coming through that the the changes have been well received by the the punters so the turnover has has certainly bounced up a little bit which is good and yeah it was pleasing to see that obviously Shep and now race on a on a Tuesday night except for last week obviously with that meeting being washed out and we'll get on to that shortly but it is good to see some positive figures coming through so hopefully it's a good change for for the locals and for the for the industry as a whole to see those increased increased turnover figures in what is a very challenging climate at the moment and we completely understand that but just trying to maximize the the turnover on on all the hardest weddings and all the codes I suppose is to be fair but there is a positive science looking positive science heading forward for for what the the calendar has been able to achieve in the first first couple of weeks and also not only that with the with those meetings being set in stone I guess you could say it's also changes to the actual programming of the the races what classes of program how the fields are drawn up those sort of things those little tweaks that have often sort of slipped by the wayside they've certainly made more of an effort to program races that are going to produce very competitive fields and I think that's what we've probably seen over the last the last couple of weeks so positive signs it's only a small sample size of course but it is looking a lot better than certainly looking a lot better than what it was and if they had have done nothing we could have been in a in a pretty average situation so good to see that the changes at this early stage have made a little bit of an impact I think it's a smart move the dogs forever and a day have always been you know what particular night dogs are going to run what venue the the the gallops are a little bit different I suppose but at least every Saturday you know they're going to be in Melbourne over at four metropolitan racetrack so you know they're going to be somewhere on that time frame in the Saturday afternoon slot and the hardest racing I must admit sometimes I lose the fact that they're actually unless I'm doing this show obviously I lose the fact that they're actually they're racing at Shepparton for example and this I can remember back in the going back quite some time now and there's been a lot of changes and you know different different people in different positions at down in HRV over the over the journey where they've come up with these whiz bang ideas on changing things and I remember we used to the the metropolitan meeting at one stage at Mooney Valley this is going back sort of 20 24 years 25 years maybe a touch further they used to have the the metropolitan meeting was on a Thursday night because they thought that they could maximize the the punting dollar by having it on payday the old payday on a Thursday um and obviously then it sort of yes you could get potentially get punters to bet on on the Thursday night but and traditionally it's greyhound night as well as that but you lose the on course in it aspect of it so I don't think that lasted all that long but you know the metronight used to flip around a bit I mean it's and it's you know changing you know changing with the times I suppose and you know go back 25 years I suppose and you know the people would go to the races the trots on a Saturday night at Mooney Valley or or wherever and you know you just knew you used to know when the the metron meetings were on the Friday nights used to be the the country used to be the country circuit and they sort of flip around either your balorat's been to go and your your shepherds primarily and obviously some cranburns thrown in there as well so I think this has given a bit more stability to to when the when meetings are on and as I say I think the better the good thing is that not only if they put those things in place but the changing of the the calendar the the programming as I think is probably the more key thing because we were seeing situations where you were having the same horses basically running in the same race week after week and not much changing and horses not moving through the the the points system and I think it's you know the programming better races putting different clauses on different races so that they mix it up a bit different barrier draws all that sort of thing so I think from a a wagering point of view it looks a bit more appealing and I think also from a training a participant point of view for trainers and owners and and obviously drivers as well it just gives gives them a bit more of an opportunity to sort of look and say right where can I pinpoint my horse to to maximize its earning potential and I think that's a good thing so yeah it'll be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of weeks and obviously the next couple of months as we start to get into the better weather but it's a positive start to to the changes that they've made and not forgetting we can go to the harness racing every Tuesday evening now and that's it that's exactly you know you know where you're going to be for the next for the next little while Tuesday night ship obviously called off last week and we'll get on to that now what the meeting was called off relatively late notice and I know we had some pretty average weather through the course of through Monday night into Tuesday was I surprised yes and I think most people would have been surprised so haven't sort of been privy to the the exact cause but it seemed like it was more the corners were that the camber was obviously playing apart with the water running down and there was quite significant water laying down on the peg line which is certainly not not ideal so I understand why it was called off and certainly not sure the club will be making those changes to make sure that they're they're ready to go again on Tuesday night what else you got for us with that it was a very skinny week so what if I can't I actually can't remember a more quiet a week in terms of local local winners across the across the board so very very light on for local flavor but we've found a couple that have got up through the course of the week and this one was probably one of the highlights of them the week certainly from a a young trainer's perspective in Casey Leigen who had her first winner with I'm easy on the eye Rebecca Bartley took the drive she had two in the race Casey and they ran first and third so it was a good performance Donna Castles had the favorite and ran second in that race but I'm easy on the eye a four-year-old mayor by Sunshine Beach out of Lolly Queen great to see they named that horse after me by the way he's here on the very true very true so well done to Casey getting that win with the four-year-old big Bartley as I say taking the drive led all the way it was a 159.2 mile rate there so a well deserved victory and also on that card Beck Bartley is self-trained a winner in cabin crew this is a seven-year-old trotter by Quaker Jet out of the quiet storm Lisa Pitt took the drive claiming drive owned by Trevor Muir and this guy obviously bred by Yabbie Dan Farms he's a seven-year-old as I say and he's only had five starts which is quite incredible but he's won his last two so he won at Shepparton on the second of July he was that was first up since March of 2023 he had three runs for Trevor in his opening campaign and he'd sort of run well I don't think he'd actually trotted he never he didn't actually trot most flop faultlessly in any of those runs so that's really about put him in the paddock he's come back and he's won two races on the bounce first go for Beck Bartley he was able to win in a two four point eight mile rate and then winning there at Bendigo the other the other night one 59.4 so good great performance from back to get this horse not only to trot but to win two on the bounce well under Trevor with his patience with the horse and great to see that you know that patience has been rewarded so cabin crew winning there at at Bendigo on Wednesday night and the other winner for the week is I say very quiet week we had American Legacy win at Milton on yesterday last night Isabelle Walsh Chris Alfred combining a eleven dollar chance in it was able to lead our just beating Tiger bandwagon and laden 154.3 was the mile rate they really gripped out of the gate early and then really backed it off that second quarter then charged home for a 57 three last half American Legacy has had said one seven races now from 41 and has better one also one two on the bounce so we were away last weekend at one at Bendigo in 152.8 so it's very fast times the last two wins and big prices as well which is certainly a little bit of a surprise given the times it was able to run at Bendigo in particular but those were the couple of winners that we had during the course of the week and as I say the meeting at meeting getting called off at at Shep on Tuesday certainly didn't help didn't help the situation but I'm just having a quick look to see the fields for Tuesday which are out and we've got nine races on the card on on Tuesday first is due to go at five o'clock and a full pretty well full field throughout the whole of that program a couple of eights and then the last is a two year old it's only got six in it but the last of nine is at three minutes after nine on Tuesday night so good just hopefully we get some decent weather and we get a good nice racing there at Shep on Tuesday. My favorite part of the week, Dan, take it away. We got the moldy. We got the quality last week. Not a bad quality either to pick up as well and the moldy was really good as well. So, let's see if we can repeat the dose, Dan. We will try our best and we've got the first four races on the card. We've got a couple of short or four shorties, all the odds on favorites. The moldy is going to be a couple of those. It's going to be race two number one techies watching before I say that. Race one's got ladies in red. Yeah, it's all right. Yeah. I think she can certainly win against her own sexies just about unbeatable, but against the boys. She's not entirely bulletproof. There's some really good ones in this, obviously. I'm still trying to get over the fact that the Lost Storms had to change. The Lost Storm got 14 dollars on fixed dogs number eight and he's now into seven. That seems a bit better price about him, but ladies and reds and odds on favorite. Look, she'll probably lead. Triple eight's going to be on her back. So, I think she's going to be very hard to beat, but I'm not with a great deal of confidence about it and that's saying something considering it is ladies and red. You'd normally expect it to just lead and win, but just that race. There's some good horses in it that might test her. And as we know, this is nearly closing the curtain on her career as well. Race. So, the first thing, the Molly's race, two number one techie is watching for Emma Stewart-Mark Pitt. Coming off a victory last start as a very short price favorite at Ballarat. A dollar I'll hate it was in the betting there. 155, five, the rate. Seven wins from 12, said three wins from six over this trip. Should be leading. Should be going very close. I think it's clearly the one to beat in the second. And the second lead, the multi, is race three, number four, Roadmaster, who's just drifted out a little bit. It's now a two dollar chance on fixed odds. One, it's last two races, and they were the two races back from a spell. They've been very impressive. Five wins from 14 overall. Beat exotic bush ranger in the metropolitan pace final. Last start, 155, five. That form's been frank because exotic bush ranger came out in one last week. So, expect Roadmaster to be really hard to beat in that third race. The fourth race, as I say, there was four very short price favorites in the first four races. The one in the fourth race is Mickey to success. It's at a dollar 35. So, if you wanted to take our two in the multi and then the two very shorties in the other two leagues that you could take in early quality, but as I said, probably not going to pay too much if they all get up. So, our multi is race two, number one, into race three, number four. By my mass, you'll get around 360 or something like that. Yeah, we've got $3.60, a powered up, $3.70. So, I think both of those will be going very, very close. The other two in the first and the fourth races should be winning, but they're quite short, quite a lot shorter on the fixed odds than those two. So, going with the little bit of cream. And I suggest you just have five bucks on the multi, just for a bit of fun. The cream there could be with those two in the middle leagues. Quarry, this is a, if you wanted to take the full quarter, it's going to cost you 300 bucks, so don't do that. Just take it for a small percentage. I've taken a lot of numbers here, because I just think it's a very, very open quarter tonight. The first league numbers are one, five, seven, nine, and eleven. No sweets for you on top, sorry, on a number one with you better not. Our Sadie K's the favorite, but I'm a little bit anxious about it, given the draw, barrier seven. Lottie Moon, number nine, and number 11, Joe Leader. This is a mayor's metropolitan maiden, so it's a very even field. And I don't think there's a great deal between a lot of them here. So taking those five numbers, just hoping for a little bit of value. I just want to point out something that I don't know what's going on. Yeah, you swatted it too, the early quarter. Now, if you are using the sports bet, like me and Dan are, the early quarter is the quarter, and the quarter is the early quarter. I'm not sure what they've done there, but I spotted that. So could you just do those numbers again on the first league? It's one, five, seven, nine, and eleven. Yeah, it was a little bit weird when I sort of just putting the numbers so I could read them off the screen here. So very odd. But anyway, I'm sure they might fix that up as the course of the day goes on, and they'll be listening to us on their over at Sports Bet headquarters. So they can fix that up. Secondly, race number six. Look, this is a dead set raffle for mine. The numbers here are one, two, five, six, seven, eight, and thirteen. This is a metropolitan maiden trot. So all these horses haven't won a metropolitan class race. Jasper is going to be very hard to beat number five. He's fallen pretty good, but there's a lot of horses that are very, very even in their form. In my dreams has been well supported on fixed odds number one. Artie's peak's going okay, even though its figure form reads terrible. Jasper, as I mentioned, and then Kyvelli Piero Berries and Cherries for Donna Castles is going well, and then Kyvelli Honey Bunny and Meadow Valley Star. I think I've only left out a couple, and there's a few scratchings in the race as well, but it's just that sort of race. It's very, very even. Jasper's probably my top pick, but not with a ridiculous amount of confidence, because I think there's a few in that. They've got plenty of chances. The third leg is the Alabara Park trot. Numbers here are four, five, and seven. Mercenaries got really good gates, but I'd expect it to be almost leading. Ladies, Ebony's Avenger will probably test it early, but mercenary got out very quick a few runs ago, I think, and lead here and be very hard to beat. Lady Adelian number five is going extremely well, just needs the right run in transit, and seven Parisian RTS. He's only had one run back from a spell for a seventh, and he's absolute best. He'd probably just win this with a leg in the air, but he hasn't been in the best of form in recent times, but I'm expecting him to run better. He ran seventh. Elder Baron Zeus last start, so expect him to bounce back from that run. The last look at the quality is race number eight, and the numbers here are one, two, and four, and I put Gorn on top of first dance and Doula Geary. The quality one, five, seven, nine, eleven into one, two, five, six, seven, eight, thirteen into four, five, seven, into one, two, four. It's a ridiculous amount, but just take it for a percentage, and see how you go. No worries, Dan. We will do that day. I want to have to get you the right that down for me a little bit later on, really quickly, because we are into news time. I completely lost track of time. That's okay. No worries, Dan. Look, Corfield today, race nine, number ten, LeFarg. He's my best of the day. It's got a great third up record, three stars, three wins, four dollars, Hayden Ball gets the ride there for Denny O'Brien. Up there, ran with race seven, number three, Space Age. For no other reason, Dan, then it's Patrick Stewart's birthday, the actor, and he was captain Jean-Luc Picard, in a cool star track. So, there are more two bits there on the day. That's it, Dan. Thanks, Dan. Sorry about that. I didn't really even realise how time gets away when you have them fun. If you have enjoyed the show, then please let us know what you think at our socials. One of them, Super Saturday Sport on Facebook and Twitter, and tune in from 8am next week to find out more. Till next week, goodbye!
