You're listening to a one FM podcast. Right on the other end of the telephone. I have Marie from the visitors' information centre in Shevaton. Good afternoon, Marie. Hello, Johnny. Hi, talk to listeners. How are you this afternoon? I'm pretty good. Thank you. How are you? Beautiful afternoon out there. Absolutely great here. Oh, I haven't got outside yet. I'm looking forward to a break very shortly. No worries. It'll go for a wander around that lovely link out to the side of your place. Yep. Exactly. No worries. No worries, fantastic. Hey, it looks like we've got an interesting weekend coming up. We have. We've got some really interesting things happening at the moment. And the first thing I'd give a shout out to is the booking sale that's on for a couple of weeks, the first two weeks of July, in fact. The booking is a fantastic little service and shop at 94 Wyndham Street. Of course, doing great work and raising funds for family care. So the volunteers, they're doing a brilliant job. And if you're in the market for secondhand books, they've got all sorts of quality books for adults, children and teenagers as well. Great place to get a bargain because it's four books for $2. That's awesome. What a great opportunity. So they're open Monday to Thursday, 10-4, and Fridays, 10-1. So you've missed them for this week, but you've still got an opportunity next week to get in and get your bargains in the book department. That's awesome. Yeah, we're enjoying doing the service announcement for this one, all week is fantastic. Yeah, for sure. Just adds to the whole great culture. We've got a fantastic ops shops and secondhand stores and antique shops in and around Shepherd and surrounding town. Exactly right. The visitor center has got a great guide to all those locations. That's right. Yep. If you're wondering, you can always drop in and pick up a copy of that guide or you can grab it off our website as well. Exactly. Great. That's great. But anyway, moving on. We've got a couple of great performances happening this weekend as well, and quite varied in the genre. Yeah. So we're kicking off tonight at the Tally Garoutna Soldiers Memorial Hall, that beautiful old hall in Tally. They have got Riverlink's presenting hall stories. It's part of the 2024 In Your Town series from Riverlink's and fantastic guest committee in coming along, Jamie and Kellyn, and he's a fantastic storyteller as well. So Hall's stories is featuring Jamie and he's a Melbourne comedy festival best show, Nominee, and also created the hit Netflix film, The Merger. Oh, right. Yeah. So brings together skills in storytelling, stand up comedy, of course. He's a character actor, so he's going to be sharing some of his own tour stories and also exploring the quirks, traditions and characters of rural Australian halls. Now, I grew up in a great rural community, so I can certainly relate to the fantastic things that went on in, yeah, the local hall. But this is, this is Jamie and Kellyn in doing what he does best. And he knows how to talk over a bubbling urn. He knows how to wind things up when the CWA ladies head into the supper room. And he also knows about having to stack the chairs in fives at the end of the night. So make sure you get along. It should be a great night out at Tally Garoopna, just we need to let him know where to get the hall key. He'll do the rest. Tickets are $23 for Riverlink's members, $24 for group for $28 for price, going to be a great night out at Tally kicking off at 7.30pm. Get your tickets through Riverlink's. Wonderful memories of old-time halls. I remember down in the western district, we had a little one at the place called Beggala and it was the same. But ladies, get up and go into that. We knew it was an evening tour. What they needed to have a seat idle. So if we'd go, it was, yeah, and we'd stack the chairs in fives at the end of the night. Exactly right. Exactly. Wonderful memories. Yeah. And then, so we're going from the small town country hall to the big time city entertainment center of Riverlink's East Bank tomorrow night, fantastic show coming, the best of the BGs. And they're bringing a greatest hits tour to Shepden and I've got a special guest or two as well. This cheering group have a really high energy set list. Lots of your BG favourites. Of course, disco being a key genre from the BGs and they'll be sharing a lot of their career highlights from the brothers' gig. And some of the songs that the BGs also wrote for the likes of Diana Ross, Dionne Morris, Barbara Strides and Frankie Valley, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. So there'll be a lot of really well-known songs that you would have heard performed by, yeah, not just the BGs, but those other artists as well. And a lot of them you wouldn't realise they were actually BG songs. So yes, that's going to be correct. Yeah. Right. Yeah. And the group have been performing, they've celebrated a silver anniversary of being on the road. So they've been in the business for a long time and performed in some big venues and really well-seasoned global musicians who will be taking on the roles of each of the gig brothers, of course, on stage. And also with a couple of special guests, including child actor and drumming prodigy Jay Colin Peterson, who was the first official non-gib band member. And he was essential to the BG sound. So it'd be great to have him there sharing some memories of his time with the BGs. And then a vocal powerhouse in the form of Roslyn Loxden is also going to be on stage performing some of the classics that were performed by other artists like Barbara Strides and Dionne Morris. Sorry, they'll have a bit of a female vocalist happening there as well. Great show on Saturday night, ticket prices, $69 to $79, kicks off at 8pm at the East Bank centre. And your tickets again through the Riverlink's box office for that one. Absolutely great. That's going to be an awesome concert. Absolutely amazing. Sure. Well, quick turn around for the crew at Riverlink because at 10am on Sunday morning, they've got Emma, Emma, Emma doing her boop, boop and twirl concert. And she's a fantastic children's musical entertainer. She's off touring around the country in her big bright orange butterfly bus. And children will get to sing and dance and sing along with Emma, is her friends Alvin Melvin, BB Butterfly, Waffles the Wombat and the Emma mates. She's got a lot of classic songs that are well known. And families are encouraged to go and dress up in theme, including the favourite colours, orange, pink and green. And every Emma and Emma performance has an Auslan interpreter standing on the side of the stage, interpreting the music and story in Auslan. So that's great. If you want to take advantage of that, do make sure you contact the team at the Riverlink's box office just so you can arrange that particular type of seating in close proximity to the Auslan interpreter. For everyone else, you can either go to theriverlinkfennues.com.au to book your tickets or contact them by phone on 5832-95-11. And full marks for the people doing Auslan too, it's absolutely amazing, it's great. Well done. Yeah, and it's great to watch it being done to me as well. It's quite a bit of a dance. Oh my God. Yeah. I'm not a worry. Yeah, so that just about wraps up all these special events happening this weekend. Of course, the Visitor Center is open every day from 9 to 5, so you drop in, we're around the Victoria Pakele Park Lake Precinct in the Sam Building. We've got some great activities for kids happening on the bird thing, so you're welcome anyone and everyone to come in. Marie, sounds like an absolutely great weekend coming up as usual. Sure. I look forward to finding out some more about what's happening next week, so thank you very much. Thank you. And to all of your wonderful people there at the Visitor's Info Center, it's absolutely fantastic. Thank you. Marie, thank you. I'm having a chat next week, Josie. Yes, my pleasure. We'll put us this afternoon on Motown Center. Great. Thank you, Josie. Talk to you again soon. Thank you. Bye now. Here we go. That's Marie from the Visitor's Information Center, absolutely great weekend coming up. Across our area, it's not uncommon for slow-moving, large, oversized farm machinery to be on the roads. Farmers may be moving their equipment from one paddock to another, or heavy vehicles may be transporting large machinery around the region. Please be patient when passing these vehicles. Slow down and move to the left of the road to allow them to pass you safely. If you need to overtake, be patient. Wait until you have a good clear view of the road ahead, and when it's safe, proceed with caution. This message proudly brought to you by RoadSafe Goblin Valley. Station sponsor. A 1FM Community Service Announcement. The 1U miniature railway have miniature passenger trains running at the 1U Reserve. That's at the Golden Valley Highway out at 1U. This Sunday the 7th of July, from 10am through to 2pm, tickets are just $4 and small children must be accompanied by a fair paying adult. Remember, the plate ran near the station too. So please bring cash for all rides due to the unreliable internet out at the 1U recreation reserve. If you'd like more information, please email Moira Mini Rail at outlook.com. You can also check out Moira miniature railways Facebook page and this has been a community service announcement on 1FM. I also believe the 1U miniature railway is also running it on Sunday out at the Windmill out on the highway at the other place out there. So that'll be an absolute beauty. Emerald Bank is the name I'm trying to think of and they'll be out there on Sunday as well. Same thing, tickets $4 and kids must be accompanied by a fair paying adult. So absolutely well done, split it in two like that for the 1U miniature railway. Well done, guys. - This has been a Community Service Announcement. - You've been listening to a one FM podcast.
