Welcome to Square Gators, the local harness racing show. This is all a part of the Super Saturday Sports show that you can listen to as to keep up to date with all things happening locally and around the world in the world of harness racing. The show airs on a weekly basis on a Saturday throughout the year and is hosted by local harness racing identity Daniel Hibbert on one FM Shepard and radio. Welcome to Square Gators on this Saturday morning of course as Dan Hibbert goes into hysterics in the studio because I had the microphone off but welcome to Square Gators and hope you are enjoying the Super Saturday Sports show here at one FM 98.5 live and local. Got Dan Hibbert to talk all things local harness racing and racing in general. How are you Dan? I'm well thanks stat so I'll give you a bit of a make you feel a little bit better about not having the mic on last night when I was calling it the dogs at Bendigo. I came off the bench to call it Bendigo last night sitting there watching the football getting a bit carried away there at certain stages and yeah I'd actually left the mic on. So everyone was here in the downstairs was hearing me and then I got a phone call from downstairs a couple of phone calls saying yeah you left your mic on so no rocks. Hopefully I didn't do anything silly but you've always just got to check the lights and make sure that you're either on or you are off. Yeah you do and it's really hard in here in this studio actually because it's really hard to see that on air here. You're under the monitor. Sometimes I wish it had a little flashing light in the studio so you could actually see at eye level because the way this computer is set up these days the older computers you could see that on air light currently and I know that the listeners have got no idea what we're talking about so we'll move right along from that but yeah Dan of course a lot to talk about the carnival continues up there at Eagle Farm it's been a really great carnival of course we're just talking off air as well springs really only just around the corner isn't it. I mean once we get past July I mean we're only a month out from a new racing season and of course when that happens it really starts to kick in the gear doesn't it particularly in the gallops well yeah in the gallops world in this part of the world it starts to you get to that start of the new season August and then all of a sudden it's yeah the better races start to come around in in the gallops and then certainly in the the trots as well and then also the dog so it's as we get into that better weather and it can't come quick enough because it's been although it hasn't been wet it's certainly been fairly cold here in the last few weeks yeah you calling tonight at either venue Shepherd and all matters I am at Shepherd and tonight I got the the black shorts on this week looking forward to it just a T3 meeting here at ship tonight but some tricky races here on the card so not the easiest punting program for sure but looking forward to getting out there tonight and and calling the meeting and watching all the other racing that's on across the night as well first of 12 getting underway at eight minutes to five o'clock this evening for those who are interested at Shepherd and this evening the meadows first of 12 getting underway a little later at 20 minutes to seven o'clock this evening but those races will run through very quickly don't think there's much turnaround time between races at the meadows this evening damn what was the week that was locally in harness racing yeah it's been a a good week we go back to the meeting at Yarra Valley on Monday and a couple of winners there Gary Peakin to go MJ Cresco down the road and got the win with Joan Servinson in the car it was the favorite short victory half a victory over keep cracking jokes got a nice trail into the race was fairly wide in the last circuit of the race but was too good to 1.3 was the mile rate there the other winner on that program was the Brent Thompson trained and driven pretty boy Harry for a victory there in the up to 55 trot it was a $5.50 chance seven meters the victim when he marched into 1.6 four year old gilding by majestic son out of pretty girl Lassie and that was his fifth start at the races for his second win he had his first victory at Marabara back in october of last year he said two runs back this this year he had a running march where he ran fourth and then he was out in the paddock again he's come back and he's first up at Yarra Valley and one in that to 1.6 well under Brent there with that victory and pretty boy Harry getting his second win at the races earlier in the week the next meeting was we get the wed to Wagga on Tuesday night Craig Turnbull made the trip up the road there and he had Mickey's pleasure get a victory Abby in the cart odds on favorite one dollar forty five was wide early worked the front and went 155.1 just holding off Vincesca and bet she's a lady the other of the Craig Turnbull runners in that affair getting third money the that was at Wagga on Tuesday night the meeting at a Chuka on Wednesday was an 11 race card so a big program there at a Chuka always be Blakey won the first for Kelly Stewart Mitchell and James Herbert's and it was an odds on favorite beating Gillaby Tyler wave and where's Woodwood 159-4 inside leg one the second for Rodney Undie and Chris Alfred it led got to the front was too good in 2.1.2 Nahan Bay one again for Brett Cole and Ellen Tormey it was a five dollar chance led early then got a fair bit of pressure ended up behind the leader but was still too good in a 159-6 rate Terry the Christian won the fourth Ashley Mountain and Taylor Yule combining it was a favorite lead took a trail and then got the sprint lane just charged through and win in two minutes point eight Admiral of the fleet won another race this was the $10,000 up to 55 race Admiral of the fleet Brian Keasier and Damian Wilson led and it was still too good to 1.1 the mile rate Yappa won the next for Mark Boyle over at Charlton and James Herbert's and again in the car he's a big big week James and plenty of winners across the last seven days three dollar thirty favorite work to the lead was two good one 59.7 was the mile rate there Ivar won the Toronto's handicap for Paul and Kevin Windback and it was able to to get a good running transit and then was able to out sprint them at the end only went to 8.9 so it wasn't a very fast run from the standing start but he was able to get the job done the eighth was won by go George Go for Glenn Bulch or no Sullivan beating home Swiss Lightning and Muriel they went to 2.3 conspirator on the ninth for Marianne Laffen Steve Matzen and it was too good beating been watching in a major suspect and it was able to get the victory there in a 2 3.9 mile rate Tobs ASCII made it a double for the stable there winning the next race and it got up by a half a neck to 3.7 the rate and the last was won by Jersey Sam for Matthew Gath it was able to lead two good one by 10 meters in a 2 3.9 mile rate so that was a wrap of the meeting there at a Chuka on Wednesday night and then we went to Wagga yesterday and Nathan Jack had two horses in at the meeting both of those horses actually trialled at Cobram last Sunday I had very little knowledge of the horses that were in the trial at Cobram on Sunday but the horses that basically dead heeded the trial at Cobram came out and both won at Wagga on yesterday Sanchez won the two year old race he is by Captain Tretris out of Senior or a Rapido and he was $1.25 and he was too good he won the two year old he went 154.6 they didn't go anywhere near that fast obviously in the trial on Sunday they just had a bit of a run around the horses in that trial but he is a nice two year old colt coming back since running in the Bathurst Gold Crown and the other one was a much bigger price and that was a horse called Chart Topper who went 152.6 lead took a trail and then was able to sprint through and win by a half ahead big performance he got the victory there fast time as well as I say I just had a bit of a blowout at the trials on Sunday but certainly able to go to the races and run really really quickly he was $1.12 two runs ago and then he came out at $10.1 on yesterday so massive price there for that horse Chart Topper but well Nathan with a double there at Wagga yesterday afternoon so that's a bit of a rap of the week that was stats it's been plenty of local winners across the the last seven days and now we as we get to towards Monday and the obviously the change in the financial year and new month we obviously get to the new calendar which comes in as of as of next week where we've got you know racing at set venues on the set days we've got a meeting at Tarang on Monday and that's about the only Monday for the month apart from a one at Wagga later on in the month but Shepard and will race every Tuesday night going forward so you'll be able to lock that into your calendar and know exactly when they get a race they'll continue to have their trials obviously on a Thursday as well but every Tuesday going forward and obviously as we said a couple couple of weeks ago the marquee events like the ship Gold Cup will always be on the Saturday night. All those other meetings will obviously just to point that out but at least yeah so they're just trying a new a new structure with the calendar how long this last I'm not exactly sure but yeah Shepard and every Tuesday night they will race essentially Bendigo will race every Wednesday night Melton will race every Friday night Mildura every Friday afternoon essentially but although they will swap that around a little bit and Kilmoor and Ballarat swap it around on Thursdays Melton every Saturday and Cranby and every Sunday so plenty of structure to that calendar and we'll see how it plays out over the next couple of months. Go to all sponsors right come out the other side we'll have a little bit of this big card at Melton this evening and as always gamble responsibly. My favourite time of the week in Square Gate is where we try and find a winner but it's always be better where and gamble responsibly. A call, stand down and myself are only $2.05. We never go too hard at it. You've got to treat it as fun and the majority of my friends have always done so Dan and lucky enough touch would have never gotten into serious trouble with it but make sure you seek help if you do need so but gamble responsibly and of course we'll get into this big card at Melton Dan. It's a good card there at Melton tonight. The first is the, obviously the fast class of the night. I'm going here with number five Captain Hammerhead in the first. He loved these holes. Yeah he's really good. He got beat last start. He was a very short price favourite when he was beaten. I don't think there was anything wrong with the run. I think he was just beaten by two horses going better. At that time I just think he's a decent enough price to back him again. It's a good field. There's a couple drawn underneath him that are going well but I just think he's a decent chance here and you're getting a good price about him. So race one number five is the first leg into race two number nine. One overall this is the trotters free for all. One overall is going extremely well. He won two of these races before running fourth at his most recent run in a small field where they didn't go ridiculously hard early and they ramped it up for the back half of the race. I just think that he's going well enough. He's probably the class runner or one of the class runners in this race. The big watch is obviously going to be Elder Baron Zeus who's had two runs back from a spell since coming back from an American campaign. He's at a fourth and a fifth but I just think that this horse at one overall is just a rock hard fit and if he gets the right sort of lacquer it can he can win. So a bit of a speculative multi here to decent enough price to not have not have to risk much on it. Nine dollars fifty damn. Yeah so race one number five into race two number nine and I powered it up and got ten dollars and put two dollars on it to get twenty. Yeah so I just see how we go with those two there tonight in that in that multi quality first well it's I essentially I think the first two leagues are pretty straightforward. First week's number four surfing makes sense. It's dollar thirty five on the fixed odds at the moment. It had two starts back from a spell two wins. This is the platinum mayor's spring championship so they're not the absolute cream of the crop and even if they are decent enough mayors they draw badly because of the preferential draw on class. This girl is coming through the grades nicely. Caron Manning trains and drives I think she'll lead and I think she will win so first league number four. Secondly is the Toronto's mayor's final again this is not the absolute cream of the crop when it comes to the mayors that are running and but those that are good obviously start from the back draws. Sequence is the one here number five for Kelvin Barker, James Herbertson on six to twenty nine minutes. Last two wins have been very impressive at Charlton and also at Ballarat. Before that it rented the breeders crown back in November had one but run back from a spell he didn't have any luck at Melton so I think she's found her form she's found her right race she's going to be really hard to beat so number five in the second league and this is where we go a little bit wider trying to find some value. Numbers are three in the third league are three four eight ten and eleven so three four eight ten and eleven. Good race favourites the four surfs up Tiger Pie but I think Ruby Wingate can lead and take a sit and then maybe out sprint them at the finish. Paris princess is going to need a little bit of luck but she's out of it as speaking already and then Chiripo and you beauty both drawn the second row but we'll need and we'll need a little bit of luck over the sprint trip but they can certainly figure here with the right sort of luck so a bit wider in that leg and then we go even wider in the last league because it's a three-year-old trot and it's a tricky race it's some decent form there's some decent winning forms throughout this field and I think there's a lot of chances so we're taking this ten in it and I've taken eight of them I think the only ones I haven't got looking at my screen here the only ones I haven't got a four and and that might be it actually whatever it is a scratching number eight I've got a one two three five six seven nine and eleven so the other ones I've haven't got a four and ten I've left out the four and the ten just thinking that they might struggle a little bit here so very widely it's a good even three-year-old trot and again they're not there's not the absolute cream of the crop at this stage of the season for the three-year-olds but I think it's an open race and we play for a bit of value they're given that there's a couple of shorties in that first couple of leagues so the quality four in the first league into five into three four eight ten eleven into one two three five six seven nine and eleven it'll cost you forty dollars for a hundred percent twelve percent get your five dollars down there you go so a small investment there and we'll see how it plays out tonight at Melton with that that quality all five dollars get your twelve percent take your pick take your pick but uh what we'll do now Dan is uh we'll have a look at the grey hands and you've got one for us at Shepard and you're calling there for our us end this evening yeah my best um I don't know if this is an omen tip or whether it's my stomach telling me things I'm not sure race three number two just want pizza is my uh best of the night uh for Jason Sharp comes here it's had five wins from 19 starts figure forms not great last few runs around seven seventh and fourth but it did win at Geelong before that um I think uh low draw uh good win at this track four runs sorry good win at Geelong four starts to go from a wide draw I think this this is not a uh overly strong field and I think it'll get should get the run of the race so race three number uh two just want pizza is my best at uh Shepard and tonight anything at the meadows I will skip the meadows it's a good card there at the meadows obviously the the better racing has been up in Queensland we've spent a lot of uh really good racing there over the last uh couple of weeks the Brisbane Cup heats and with Thursday night we had about four Victorians I think get through to the final so massive final there uh tonight next week um the best best bed of the night at the meadows is probably an anchor in the quad it's in the first league race five number two aren't Virginia now she's a dollar 45 but she uh smashed the clock in her first go over this 600 meter trip last start she draws the same box again um I don't think the dog on her inside's got a ridiculous amount of early speed so if she gets to the rail first uh and leads they won't be that she was just absolutely stunning in that race last week so you can take her as an anchor in the quad in the first league um the second leg is a little bit more open but I'd reckon one two and four are the numbers to take in that second leg the third league is uh a very open affair um maybe it might nearly even be a field job and then the last look at the quad is the free for all and Fernando Phil was good winning last start he'll be very hard to beat in that race along with the cruising Devi number seven and number eight Peaky Joe so there are a few numbers there at the meadows for tonight but certainly keep it on that race five number two because she was really good last week we'll have a look at corefield on a good fall first gets underway in some 23 minutes from now I'm gonna make my best bet on the card race two number eight kin today there at corefield oh hasn't there been some some words about this horse has uh been a lot of uh discussion about uh about kin and uh maybe it's a bit of a day day well it's a bit of a non-winner it's had 19 starts one only two races with eight minors admittedly though it has uh running some pretty good races so but I've just uh listening to the radio driving around and uh and on the telly there have been a bit of uh we're uh talking about this horse and certainly a lot of people jumping on board to back it but uh that winning percentage is a little bit of a concern there. Rose Hill not to put not to put a dampener on your best bet. Rose Hill uh I reckon it's D-Day for kin I reckon it's a bit of value as well yeah uh Rose Hill race one number 15 was the winner the mandala there but we're going to go to race seven of course it started 10 30 this morning Rose Hill on the heavy eight race seven number five golden path is my best up there on the heavy eight at Rose Hill today which what number was race seven at number five did I say eight I might have said eight yeah uh race seven number five beg your pardon yeah currently uh two dollars nine he'd been speck chad's go field as we saw as already had a winner up there so um they're on a heavy eight it looked like the sun was shining there when we saw that first race so maybe it might improve a little bit throughout the day but uh I dare say they'll be coming pretty wide in that home straight as well so she he's drawn out and barrier nine so that you probably will suit him a bit later on in the afternoon and on the good for it eagle farm I got a couple of nice little bets race six number one there on declare I think it's time to get on at around the six dollars 50 and in race eight the tatasos tiara on with the favorite race eight number one bellon the patina she's got a obviously drawn out in the car park but uh she has got so much more class than the horses that she's up against in these mares grade and she's got them at set weights I mean and if she'd have drawn if she'd have drawn well she would have been a dollar eighty and in race eight today I like one at a bit of value race nine number 21 charlotte's moment which is around sixteen dollars currently thirty ones into sixteenths has won three of its last four races uh at eagle farm it's had six wings from twelve overall and uh yeah it can be a chance and again it has drawn very wide but uh it might be able to get into the race so uh a bit of a speculator these stats in the last that's it Dan thanks that if you have enjoyed the show then please let us know what you think at our socials one fm super Saturday sport on facebook and twitter and tune in from eight a.m next week to find out more till next week goodbye
