The Golf Show with thanks to Next Level Golf, visit www.nextlevelgolf.com.au and take your game to the next level. He's the super secretary of the Gold Murray Golf Association. We are in the Golf Show as we always are after the 9 News at 10am every Saturday morning. He's here for a course, the penultimate Saturday of the financial year. I speak of none other than Dazzling Dave Roberts, how are you Dave? Dazzling Dave, I'm not too dazzling this morning, it's a bit grey out there this morning. And I've got some bad news golf wise for you Dave, that the rain is going to hit it about midday and stay till about nine this evening. Oh, guess what time I'm starting golf today? I thought you'd be starting just after midday or high noon or thereabouts. Oh, that's going to be fun, isn't it? Is it going to be heavy rain or...? No, I don't believe so. I don't believe so, it's going to come and go. All right, and it'll be, well, it's not going to be heavy, I don't think at least anyway. You know now that I've said that, it'll rain for 40 days and 40 nights now, don't you? Yeah, it'll be something like that, I'll ring up at three o'clock this afternoon when I've abandoned golf and I'm stopping wet, but look, let's tackle it, don't let a bit of rain put us off, good game of golf, we'll see what happens. Well, I suppose the thing is not so much the rain, but if there's any lightening about which it doesn't appear to be. No, rain, you just got to cope, but yes, we've talked about that before, if it's lightening you've got to get off the course, that's a condition of golf, it's dangerous, get off. I guess greenkeepers wouldn't like it when golfers are out in the rain. I'm sure that it might hack up the golf course a little bit as well. Can, yeah, there's no doubt about that, but it's usually I'll hack up the golf course when things get really, really sloppy, like you get those, you said you're 40 days and 40 nights of rain, when courses get logged, that's waterlogged, that's when they're usually in more danger of getting chopped up, cart marks, motorised carts, all that sort of thing, hack up the golf course then, that's the worst. A little bit of rain, golf courses are designed to take it, so they should be okay. Yeah, especially these days, I suppose the drainage and everything these days have been quite good for most golf courses, locally? Yeah, yeah, yeah, and yeah, come in, I'd make it, you have a look at the route, the amount of drainage that they've put in over the last few years to improve their course, it used to get waterlogged pretty quick, so yeah, there's a lot of work done to keep golf courses that they're best because that's what players want, members want to be able to get out there and play. And when you normally play, Dave, are you playing with three other people or two other people, or how do you play when you're playing on a Saturday afternoon? Yeah, we're usually playing fours, it's interesting, a lot of golf clubs are a little bit different, but I think these days, especially on Saturdays, which tend to be the biggest days, groups tend to play in fours. I think Wednesday at Hilltop, the women are playing threes, but it just depends a bit on the size of the field and how they get organised. So they do, they still do that old four ball best ball and all that type of tournament type play? Yeah, just don't call it old four ball best ball, there is a game called four ball best ball and it's a fairly popular sort of game. Yeah, it was back in the day and even been a non-golfer you used to hear about it, but I must admit, Dave, you don't hear much about it these days, don't you? Maybe you do, maybe you do because you're riding the golfing game but an outsider doesn't. The next time I get a four ball event on one of these clubs, I'll make sure I highlight it because there's a few clubs with individual games yet, but four ball is, yeah, it's definitely a, it's a great game, it's a great game. Yep. What do you got for us on this Saturday morning coming out of overcast to cheer a day? Well, I got, well, we've got to, we've got to go back. I know first of all that those are being stirring me up about, um, try to get the Hilltop chef to play golf. I made a comment last week that it's amazing what people hear, um, that he's, uh, shepping his cooking ability was better than his golf, but I can, um, I can report that, uh, James Bray, his golf is improving, played with him, he'd get on Thursday afternoon in Chukran, so well done, James, and I think, um, his father-in-law, the great Billy Bray at Merigam has taken him out and trying to get him to, uh, hit that golf ball properly. So there's the update, folks, the Hilltop chef, his golf is improving. But it's nowhere near the, uh, the top of the world yet, uh, if I'd go back last Saturday, we were reporting on the ladies' professional golf association, the KPMG tournament at Cheryl E. Country Club. Well, it was a mixed leaderboard all the time, but anyway, Karina Yang, uh, got up, seven under, um, she only shot her even on the final round, it was pretty tough going, there were some big scores on this course, it must've been tough. Anyway, Karina Yang got it, um, seven under, Yashishita from Japan was second, and Vu from USA, and Ko from Korea, so a couple of Karina's up there, they all, those three, Yashimida, Fu, Vu, and Ko all finished on minus four. The Aussies, Hannah Green and Minji Lee were both on plus four, and while I mentioned Hannah Green and Minji Lee, most people who put up, picked up on TV news or stuff yesterday. Hannah Green, Minji Lee, Min Wu Lee and Jason Day are the four Australians off to the Olympics to represent us there, so I think I mentioned that last week that it was likely to be Minji Lee and Min Wu Lee, so we've got a brother sister combination representing Australia in the Olympics there for golf, um, I'll look at the other funny thing, so it shouldn't be funny, it's only terrible actually, um, the final day of the Traveler's Championship for the, uh, for the men's PGA Tour, well last Monday morning airtime, um, coming up the 13th, Scotty Scheffler and Tom Kim and some climate protesters, um, charged down the hill, um, interrupted the tournament, spread some sort of red stuff all over the greens, uh, the whole play was held up to the finish, um, anyway in terms of the golf, Scheffler and Kim, uh, were level after 72 holes and had to go off and play the 18th again as a playoff hole and, uh, Scheffler got up to win that, so Scotty Scheffler, he has won 6th of the PGA Tour events this year, and that's the first time anyone's done that since Tiger Woods did it in 2009, so Scotty Scheffler's right up there in the greats now in terms of his record from this year, uh, Liv Golf was also on this week, Tyrell Hatton, his first year in, uh, Liv Golf, uh, anyway he got in at the Nashville thing, finished 19 under one by six shots, so had a huge victory, took him his $4 million winners check, um, he did play well in the US Open the week before, so, um, that was good, um, Sam Horsefield was second, uh, US Open Champion Bryson D. Shumbrol, Jacqueline Nimmon, Lee Westwood and John Ram were all tied for third, uh, Ram and Hatton are in the same, uh, Lueger's team and they won the team event, so, three million bucks to share between them, they'll be happy about that. Uh, more importantly, locally Pennant started last Sunday, Winter Pennant, we've only got men's teams in, uh, Division 3 were at Cobram Baruga where Shepherd and defeated Valley View 3 and 2, and Yamurka defeated Tokamal 3 and 2, I'm not going to go through all the individual scores it just takes too long, but I did know putting the scores in Young Hudson's story from Yamurka, um, I think Hudson's about 16 anyway, huge 7 and 6 wins, so that's incredible for a junior golfer, well done, well done Hudson, great work, you'll be beating your father before too long, uh, at the Vision 4, Division 4 played at Marutna, thanks to Marutna and Cobram Baruga for hosting, uh, a couple of big wins there, Shepherd and defeated Merigam 4 and 1, Tokamal defeated Cobram Baruga 3 and a half to 1 and a half, and the home team Marutna defeated Nagambi 4-1, uh, tomorrow Division 3 are at Yamurka and Division 4 at Tokamal, so good luck guys, and then Division 1 and 2, you start next week, you know, I'm pretty sure I think, I better check, I might have to do it to Division 1 and 2, we're at Hilltop next Sunday, uh, okay, around the traps, here we go, we'll start at Marutna, Tuesday, winner, Bayley Coon, Thursday, the best score in a stroke event, Owen Tolentino, 72 net, Saturday out there they played part Troy Lumberg plus 3 in A-grade, that's a good score Troy, B-grade winner, Henry Barrow on plus 5 and C-grade Kyle Hodginson on minus 2, so some very good scores for a power event there last Saturday, Wednesday, ladies, 18 whole winner was Annette Gallagher on a count back from Dorne Noyella, the 9 whole event was taken out by Alison Baxter, and Saturday's ladies Karen Harbro was the winner there, uh, across the channel, the hilltop, uh, runs into Candy Muff, so the theme today is let's feast on lollies, how sweet it was, Tuesday gob-stopping golfers, oh god, except they played stroke, Rob Young was like taking candy from a group of jelly babies who came in to take a first prize, Thursday, Sticky Stableford, uh, rumours of rain and umbrellas, a few people didn't turn up, in form, Austin Dullard was jubilant about his excellent 42 points, well done, Austin, I can remember it was only just a couple of months ago, Austin joined up and I went out there and got him starred in golf, so that's great to hear, Austin well done, um, and the chicken runners were smarties who defied the rain, Scotty Carr skippled everyone in the best score, and Jeff Coolahan was Turkish delighted with his second place, sweet tooth Saturday, golfers went bananas, James Ibertson, 39, a whiz-fiz score to take, A-grade, Tan Della, Sherbet Bond B-grade, while Jeff Huddle, 34 points, must have stayed out of the coconut rough, took him in second, C-grade Sharon Jeffers took the chocolates, uh, Wednesday, hilltop women, Stacey's Mass Charge and Tat Hotbread sponsored, and this will come up a couple of times in the women's mid-week events, it was delayed during, because of sub-zero temperatures, freezing everything, they had pink day, which is a day, they, all the women get dressed up in their best pink attire, balloons, ever then decorate the place, raising money for anti-cancer, Colleen John's and Josie DZO combined well-scoring 44 points, Terry Wangman and Lisa Peckelakis were runner up on a count back with 39, now if you have a good day, golf you usually have a good day, so as this Lisa Peckelakis, she was runner up there, she then won a nearest the pin on the ninth, got the jackpot and won the rattle, so that's a pretty good day at Lisa, well done and they raised a fair bit of money for anti-cancer cancer, well done ladies there for that big event to Valleyview, Scoop Must have copped at last week, he's got my lack of enthusiasm at last week's results, struck a nerve with some readers, anyway thank goodness Jeff Stracken, who gave me something to write about this week with a brilliant round of 41 points to secure B-grade on Saturday, A-grade, Mick Gallivan took the honours 36 on a count back from his son Dylan and the ladies Marlene Top made a return to the winners list on 34 points, congratulations to Peter Mangan and Kevin Boulay, who took out the final of the Isaac family four ball event, defeating Peter Noble and Craig Scoop reporter himself narrowly at the weekend, big thanks to the Isaac family and Albion Motors for their ongoing support for that event, Tuesday Miles Gould made a rare mid week of pence, you should have been at work, no I was, how did you get Tuesday off, someone must have been looking after the shop, he won A-grade with 35 points, John Burrows won B-grade with 35 points and special plea here for Valleyview men calling and see Miles, he wants to shore up the penitentame for the rest of the season, so he's got that organised, so drop in and see him and get that pendant stuff sorted out, to Merigam, Stableford was the event of their contested on Saturday in fine but coolish conditions, big thanks to the volunteers, got out there early Saturday morning in the mug of greens and get everything ready, yep, there's a bit of a thing on TV about give it to you for a volunteer and well done Bill, we should all say it nearly every day, thanks to all the volunteers who help out on golf courses, the handicap is going to get some work new member Darcy Shepherd, not just his first win with 40 points, well done Darcy, welcome to Merigam, Tommy Ladman's, put in some good work, he finished runner up on 35, Bill put in the pendant scores, I've read them but good on your bill, keep encouraging your players, get those scores in so everyone appreciates those people out there representing their club, and you're playing for a spot in the privileged cup today, so good luck over there at Merigam, go cats is back from his holiday at New Merka, welcome back go cats, all bad luck, I'm going to make a comment here about for you go cat man, this is my first report after an enjoyable 8 weeks overseas, I left and my cats were under feeder, I come back and they look like also around you, that's a play count and the other night go cats I'm sorry about that, but they're a great story from Rick here, just a lot of golf fans are just what golf does, I mean Rick Wally was away on holidays, paid a visit to St Andrews golf club, the home of golf, I think any golfer that gets over to that side of the world definitely tries to get to St Andrews, anyway Rick says he was decked out in his New Merka golf and balls cup shirt and a voice yelled out, "hey New Merka golf club I've played there, great little course, so well done Rick I hope you enjoyed your holidays and yeah just suffer a bit now, how did your long footy team is going to go for the rest of the year, Saturday their golf better talk about New Merka golf I suppose they'll grow crook, perfect winter's day, they said, "play par, everyone loves par, due to a bit of rain, normal deceptive greens, only five players managed to better their handicap, Dennis Prossar, plus three, great score, Dennis he was the winner there and next in line Swann supporter Phil Spencer came in with a plus two, next Saturday you're up there today the Neville Smith sponsored Stubbleford trophy round five, so you get near the end you guys, get a few good games in for that ongoing competition, uh to New Merka winner, green whispers, reports in, the whispers around the greens were, last Wednesday they played their Doris Chambers Forcens, hey this is a bit like Hiltop, they were delayed in our cup of the ice to melt before a lovely day on the course, Julie Hanniford and Helen Comradec combined smoothly taking the event to finish that one, oh I got some wonderful vouchers for meet on Melville who were the sponsors and Julie and Helen will go and play it, sanctuary lakes in November, all the women around the state have events qualifying for the Doris Chambers Forcens and then go and play it sanctuary like so good, good luck there Julie and Helen hope it all goes well, there was a bit of a commotion there during the late event when a golf buggy got away and there were screams until the buggy was intercepted on the 17th, oh that would have been a bit of fun, uh last that day they played par along with the men extremely challenging for most of the ladies, Joanne Agrayam visiting enjoyed the day she came in with a plus two, uh they are their singles knock out, they got down to the final stage where Rosemary Rutledge has to play Margot McGrath, so we look forward to hearing about that in the coming weeks as to who won that prestigious event, Sheperton, similar sort of comments, Maggie they called in here, you needed your fingernails, your beading and your window woolly's at Sheperton this week, yes it was a bit cold most mornings, Monday and Tuesday they had their seniors amateur tournament, idea of Australia's finest senior players over there playing anyway it was Sheperton's Karen Hall who combined scores 67 points won the women's net event and Helen Pasco from Bunny Young, she won the scratch event, Helen spends a lot of time playing all the events around the state and into state, so good on up, the men's stroke event, Win went to visit our Victor Chung and arounds of 145 on a camp back from Kevin Sins from Rostyle and in the grass it was Kevin Sins who won that one just ahead of Shep's Kevin O'Donoghue, I think all the seniors then moved from Shep up to Tockemall for the next couple of days, Wednesday at Shep, women's teeing off, Agrade a great win to Ann Peck, good on you any great effort, 72 net, be great, sort of win to Greta Keenan and Seagrade, nicely turned to form from Liz Jovells with a round of 73, Thursday Jim Metropolitan, Mr. Polis, part medley competition, amazing golf hat, Agrade Sheperton's PGA professional Kyle Michelle, this is a great score Kyle, he shot nine pars and nine birdies to claim the grade with a plus three, nine under for a plus three, well done mate, runner up Rob Shields on a plus two and Big Grade, great win to Colin Stanley on a plus three, Friday women's central tyre service, nine Hollers, one 15 points that are won by Josephine New on a camp back from Jeanine McCauliff, Saturday, big four ball eight, if you're still awake over there, stats man, they played a four ball par event, right, a good four ball, that's a great thing, I thought there was one here, a women first round in the women's event, Big Grade champion Julie Harris came in with a plus two in the men's four ball, great contest eventually going to the team of Luke O'Sullivan and Nathan Dixon on a plus nine on a camp back from father and son team Colin and Aaron Bernier, so there's a four ball event in, so that's good to see, I've got to make more of it, Sunday after the 18-hole camp, Trev Wayman won, the nine-hole event was won by Spencer Sharp, over to Parkland to finish off the round the tracks, Saturday, men and women, Stableford, Agrade, women Cathy Bell, well done, Cathy on 40 points, Big Grade died day on 36 and Seagrade, the only master on 37, in the men, Paul McGinnis on 37, Big Grade, Brian Printergrass won on 34 and Seagrade came Burt won with 37, then on Tuesday, women's stroke event, Agrade, Cathy Bell won 52 net, Big Grade, Kerry McCormick and Seagrade, Joe Rinkperica, so there you go, if you're having a good week, having a good week, on Saturday, Cathy Bell wins, on Tuesday, Cathy Bell wins, so that's great and good to see a club worker winning events, and while I'm on that, I'll just set out a bit of reminder, Cathy's organizing the Ann Johnson, Ambrose, teams event for us over there, on Monday, the 8th of July, women get your teams in for that, I'd just better check up on what the coming events are, so this is probably full up, anyway, Monday and Tuesday, it's women's team event on Bowles at Rich River, 8th of July, Monday, the 8th is the Ann Johnson team's event at Parkland, and I just mentioned swaggers at Rich River on the Friday the 12th, and then the 22nd and 23rd of July is the Edner O'Brien event up at Cobram Baruga, so there you are, lots of chance to play that, and every Sunday, the winter pennant is on, and the strange thing that's just come through, this is unbelievable, and Nellie Korta, the number one golfer in the world for the women, she's been bitten by a dog, and now she can't play to defend her title in the women's chat, oh, how bad is this, bad luck, Nellie, these are the things that happen to poor old, some of the top of the things, I guess the next thing we'll all be on the edge of our suit with will be the open, I'm around about the 14th, 21st of July at Royal Trune, what used to be called the British Open, it's now just known as the Open, I actually played at Royal Trune about 47 years ago, I bet it's a bit different, so anyway we'll certainly be following that one with interest because that's one of the tournaments of the year, and to finish off, this is a good quote this week, thanks Judy, this is a ripper, from Arnold Palmer, one of the greats, golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated, how true was that, I might pin that up on my golf bag, so there we go Mr Stetsman, it's the end of the golf show for the last golf show for the financial year. I remember that when you're at Royal Trune I was actually graduating high school with Pie Fageres, on that occasion it was that long ago Dave, and if you believe I graduated high school you've got a real problem, and Pie Fageres was either man with the, he did all the sums and the mass and everything, he had the theorem, Pie Fageres theorem, but what was it about? I'd better go and ask my wife, all kinds of angles and stuff, angles and stuff, that's right, yeah whatever they were, they all went up to 360 don't they? Yeah something like that, yeah good I knew you'd know all that, yep, all right then Dave I'll let you go and have a hit of golf, thanks mate, we'll just think of me if it starts to rain this afternoon, oh I certainly will, and we'll do it all again next week thanks to next level golf, thanks next level golf, take it easy Mark, talk to you next week, that of course was Dave Robert T is the super secretary of the Gold Murray Golf Association, next level golf, take your game to the next level Now is the time to join at the friendly club, the Maroutna Golf Club, join today and enjoy full member benefits until the end of June 2025, there is a membership category to suit any budget, with memberships starting from as low as $470 for country members and full memberships to $715, taking you through until the end of June 2025, that's a whole lot of value, for a whole lot of fun, so what are you waiting for, join today at the friendly club, the Maroutna Golf Club, one FM sponsor, time to not, you must consider the Shepherd and Golf Club for your most special day, the Shepherd and Golf Club offers a unique first class experience that will help create lifelong lasting memories for you and your guests in a relaxing setting that boasts picturesque views and natural beauty, our experience team of professionals will take you through the process of designing your food and beverage selections, providing you a stress-free experience so that you can concentrate on the love and joy that brings you together, visit shepherdengolf.net.au or call us on 582 12717, one of him's sponsor.
