Welcome to the Go TAFE Golden Valley Football League with Martha Statsman Owens. Welcome to the Super Saturday Sports Show here at 1 FM 98.5 Live and Local and as always we kick it off with the Go TAFE Golden Valley League Football and Netball Show. We have a look at the football in the first half hour after eight o'clock every Saturday morning and in the second half hour after the nine news at half eight we will have a look at the Netball. It's a split round today. Round 12 of course goes over today and next week our call team is at Deakin Reserve today for the big game between Shepman and United taking on a chew. The game gets underway two o'clock. Streamer will join their bouts if you want to get on streamer today to have a look at that digital platform. You can't get to Deakin Reserve. You unlock it into the airwaves of 98.5 as well coverage getting underway at 1 30 for the bounce at 2 p.m. Your call team today Jason Welch calling and hosting today Jackson Saunders calling and co-host as well. Jack Brophy in special comments, coal power on the boundary and James Amandley doing a great job in stats in season 2024. Well you got to go back a long way for United's last win against a Chuka. In fact the record looks like this in the last 12 starts. A Chuka has won every one of them. The last win by United against a Chuka was at the venue Deakin Reserve in 2016. On the 14th of May it was round six on that occasion. So a Chuka going for 13th straight this afternoon. Being dominant throughout the course the late 20s and course throughout the 20s as well. Although they really emerged late didn't they in the 20s and then overtook the lead during COVID and post COVID pretty much. So when you have a look at United they're in 11th spot and a Chuka in top spot on the ladder. Of course only lost this season was to Rochester some weeks ago. Now United in 11th a Chuka in 10th like I said Coach Duane Houston of United has got some really nice players actually. They play Deakin Reserve really well United and I was really impressed with them a couple of weeks ago when I watched them again to my route. Now they got a bit of pace about them United. Caden Napier who's an eczema route in the junior actually now finds himself at Deakin Reserve ranked five in the goal kicking this season with 27 goals. Been having a really cracking season and Jesse Kuchinotta he's been in their better players seven of the 10 games this season be up there for their best and fairest of course. He's a United junior that was on the Boxhill Hawks VFL least there for a while in Port Melbourne VFL list as well in 2020. I think he was on that list. You look at a Chuka on the other hand they got Liam Teneiss up for what haven't they. Who was a JBL rep this season. He's a two-time premiership player at the club plays at center forward mostly. Of course Kyle Power has described him as the best hands in the competitions kick 21 goals this season and this midfield out Jack McHale who is a two-time premiership senior player at the club now. I've got him on 15 votes at a Morrison but he could well have 21 votes there was a game at the start of the season and I couldn't track so he didn't give out the player best on player Hanks Q and in that game against Rochi he could have possibly been best of field in a losing side there so he could easily be on 21 but I'm tracking him for three BOGs currently he's having a really cracking season in that midfield Jack McHale. Look the Chuka had taken all before them. Look I think United have been gallant on occasions this year they've had the one win and the one draw but I think a Chuka will be too strong for United at Deacon or although I think early United might serve it up to him before a Chuka sorta will get the ascendancy there in the end. The second of three games today of course it is a split round of the go-tape going Valley League to Chura in 12th spot with the one win this season take on Yeroa in 7th spot the six wins this season of course they've had injuries at to Chura under coach Paul Barnard we all know that he's from East Perth originally but he played for Essendon in that grand final in 2000 where he kicked four goals up Craig Sargent he's been having a really good year for to Chura and I'm just going to see actually if he's been nominated to play Craig Sargent because I have ticked him off but he I don't think he he is playing I have written him down but he has had a really good season and actually it doesn't look like he will be playing today I think he's been injured for a little while now but before that he kicked 13 goals a plus the winning goal again to see him all the start off the season so he'll be missed today Andrew Superrella in that midfield is having a really good year for TAT you look at Yeroa on the other hand and they had a nice win against your knighted last week by 37 points at of course Memorial Oval and they travel to TAT Park today coach Ryan Pendlebury has been announced that he will be an assistant coach at the AFLW North Melbourne as an assistant coach for the upcoming season in the AFLW so of course that gets underway and about late August early September so he's a defender at the club as well of course playing coach and he's been on VFL this including Collingwood a Jack McCurnan's been having a really good a couple of weeks he played in that losing grand final in 2022 for Yeroa he's kicked five goals in the last two rounds actually against Marupna and United and Silver Youssef who they picked up from Avondale Heights in the offseason in the Essendon and District Football League he's kicked 15 goals this year and has been hitting the score board look off the strength of probably TAT having a few injuries I'm thinking that Yeroa should be too strong for Tatra today probably got too much firepower up forward with the likes of Trish and Davies and those types of players up forward of course and they've also got Jet Trotto who have both been named in at the squad today so they are playing so a bit of more firepower for Yeroa than TAT today so you'd think Yeroa would be winning or be it somewhat disappointing point in themselves in seven for a lot of people including me had them top three at the start of the year in of course the final game for this Saturday three games today the split round action Seymour take on the Swans the two S's go at it and of course for Seymour Ben Davies is the coach Royley Mason's having a good season ranked two in the competition 36 goals this season it's been a GV rep the last two seasons and he's been on Coburg's VFL list in the past abroad with Junior that he came through their junior program there Jack Murphy of course a Kilmour Jr he came through that program he's been on Coburg's VFL list as well he's been having a good year in that midfield for Seymour as well. Jet Wright the coach of the Swans they've had the three wins he's season been somewhat unlucky haven't they they've lost four or five games by a kick these season and been really really unlucky the Swans they had had been wins they'd be right up there in the top six but as it is their three and eight a still side bottom has kicked 26 goals this season he's equal sixth ranked in the competition he's a Swans junior that's come through their junior program there and he's now a senior player at the Swans and Max Closie who's just a class mid-fielder was on Richmond's VFL list in 2023 he also came through the Swans junior program he's a real class act I should have pointed out as well that all these clubs have already played one another once this season in fact you know I did have played a Tuka in back in round one on the portal of Murray Victoria Park on one by 95 points to Turid played your rower back in round two and you row by 34 points at Memorial Oval and in at the Seymour Swans game back in round three the Swans won by three goals at Prince's Park in somewhat at the time a bit of an upset considering what people thought Seymour might do in season 2024 look Seymour had a really decent winner going to Mansfield last week and of course Riley Mason like I said having that really good year forward so I think that Seymour off the strength of that win last week at Mansfield and at home two weeks in a row Seymour at home two weeks in a row should get Mansfield this afternoon that game is also on 103.9 Seymour FM with Greg Sharp and the crew so you can listen out for that as well so that's the three games for today just having a really quick look ahead to next week and we'll preview these games obviously next Saturday. Cuyabram in third spot nine and two they play Rochi Sunday week so they have the rest both those two sides they second playing third next Sunday week or tomorrow week. Four spots see more the runners up last season in the reserves with a seven and three record they played today. Yeroa in fifth spot the seven and four record playing today and shepherden in six spot with the six and five record they play next weekend and they're again clear inside the six if you're tracking what the premiers are doing of course the premiers in the reserves they are at a course. Deacon reserve today shepherden united taking on Echuca they're in a spot currently if you just want to track a course what the premiers are doing in the reserves. Let's have a look at you leading goal kickers for a course the reserves. Fraser Brooks of Echuca on 32 goals he won a reserves flag with that club at versus Cuy in 2022 Robert Wilson of Yeroa 29 goals he won the reserves goal kicking last season with 61 goals in 17 games in the end of course is played out at Yeran Violet town and breed hockey coming through the Rochi junior program now is in the Rochi reserves on a regular basis has kicked 25 goals in third spot this season let's have a look of the under 18s and I believe only two of the six play today in the top six so that all gets underway at 10 a.m. the three games today and of course we've got Echuca at Deacon reserve today bear on top and of course there are 11 and 0 at the moment haven't lost the game going for five straight premierships in a row we all know that Shepperton who have the rest and play next week in second spot the 10 and one record of course they're trying to Defy Chuca and protect that six flags in a row that they won they hold the record between 1987 and 1992 six flags for the under 18s in the Shepperton and footy club third is Marupna who have the rest today they're at the vanilla showgrounds next week the seven wins the swans are in four spot they play today the seven wins are runners up in the under 18s last season in fact I think it's the last two seasons they've actually been runner up in the under 18s Rochi in fifth spot with the rest today playing Sunday week the seven and four record they'll be playing Kai Sunday week in six spot with the six and five record and Kai are again clear inside that top six let's have a look at your leading goal kickers Toby courts uh course uh the girls from skein street cheppin and united will be taking on a chuca course they met back in round one on the port of the Murray and this was a bit of an i-raiser at the time united one by 12 goals 48 to 36 and of course a chuca of the premiers we all know that and this was a bit of a surprise at the star of the year since that round one clash so united uh eighth with the five and six record including that win and a chuca are now four with the seven three and one draw so seven wins three losses and a draw of course the co-coaches at united laura col best and ferris winner in 2020 three she rolls through that mid court you got erin houston as a code coach who got shepherd and he's the ultimate back in 2023 in the kcl of course with a premiership in an undefeated year there for the shepherd and east girl so she sort certainly knows what she's doing they've got tam skinner gold should have been having good year alibia kirby been having a good year at united in gold defense is a gold keeper of course a chuca on the other hands early they didn't have uh players such as stepvick who of course is a two-time moment medalist at coin i think premiership player at co as well as now at a chuca stepvick and of course premiership player of chuca obviously blinda lee's also plays uh and she's a goal attack and uh plays um that uh offensive role as coach does blinda lee's of course is a premiership coach now i know united got them back on the paul or mari but like i said i think a chuca didn't have some players to be fair missing at the starly such as stepvick i think they found their mojo a little bit now since then and it's starting to challenge for that premiership defense so you know i did always hard to beat though on the deacon reserve netball course has to be said but i'll give the a nod to a chuca there tatura in third spot uh with the eight wins in a draw all these season two losses host euroa who were on top of the tree with the one lost ten wins this season they're only lost coming to maruque maruque maruque a couple of weeks ago of course tatura i got uh both playing code coaches in step uh gory smerf and a lee's boy who plays wing defense molly boil's been having a good year defensively julia clark but tat as well uh goal attack offensive player it's been having a really good year yeroa as always me assert a musky in goal attack is always one to watch out for holly reade the ex kaiabra mid-quarter now finds us out that uh memorial oval in season 2024 uh she plays on that wing and uh can play wing defense as well alie war knock the playing coach of course with that uh v&l experience victorian netball league experience with the north east blaze uh plays uh goal defense there as well she's a goalkeeper down the defensive end for yeroa i think this will be a good game by the way uh with tat third and yeroa on top always hard to beat at tat park on the netball courts there but i think yeroa will be too strong in that particular game wouldn't surprise me if i jump in the car at five o'clock was happening just reverends and said on of course the james c u uh super saturday support scoreboard service with five losses of course this is a king's park c more today back in round three uh it was c more by eleven goals 59 to 48 that was at prince's park on the netball courts there and uh today of course here at king's park we're seeing we'll now get to host the swans as the swans did back in round three earlier this season coach alley fermista uh nio Sullivan of course gold shooter at the club premiership player as well sarah sakowski's of premiership player gold defense the wellman medalist of 2023 reigning wellman medalist leagues best and fairest and Ruby martin is a versatile type of player can play defense or can play attack uh per se more so we've got the swans as well undercoach yana reardon who plays wing attack uh natasha akenson brown who they picked up from rumba in 2023 at the end of 2023 uh just at the startle his season is a gold shooter and sarah down wing defense has been having an all right year there at prince's park for the swans so Seymour at home today on thinking would be too strong for the swans although the swans have been having a fair season uh lying in sixth spot currently so the games today are united taking on a cheaker tat taking on your rower and Seymour taking on the swans next week for the second half of the split round banella take on marutna that's at banella showgrounds manseal take on shepherdin that is set at a week at the manseal recreation reserve and sunday week tomorrow week at the cuyabrum uh recreation reserve netball courts it is a shawak and pacific derby cuyabrum taking on rodchester let's have a look now at your lower grades all shepherdin uh of course they'll play next week the premiers in begrade the seven and four record rochie will also play next week uh against cuy on the sunday or sunday week in fifth spot the seven and four record and a chuca are a deacon reserve today they were runners up last season in begrade they're in sixth spot the seven and four record game clear uh and of course the chuca was in seventh spot tracking the premiers for your information nice spot the chuca the premiers with the four and seven record are looking ever increasingly unlikely to well they're running a game out aren't they i suppose but it is looking unlikely that they'll defend their cram the chuca in be reserved of course swans it was a great game to grand final last year actually won by a goal over to swans in be record the premiers in the under fifteen's last season of course they are playing at deacon today again she knighted marutna are in second spot though the runners up last season the under fifteen's ten and zero so they haven't lost a game yet and uh they are in second spot just uh they're a game down on a chuca they'll go to the games down actually after today but that'll catch up um but uh yeah
