You're listening to a 1FM podcast. Ah, the advisor established in 1984. From informative political and council updates to sport and human interest stories and everything in between, it leads the way in community news in the Goldbun and Murray Valley. Will it be Will or Jeff joining Plemo today on 98.5? Let's find out right now. Well, I've already given it away. It's Jeff. Good morning, Jeff. How are you today? Very well, thanks, Plemo. Ah, any rain where you are? Ah, no, not in central Shepparton. No. And we've got some cloud cover, but I think we are expecting some rain coming to come through, yeah. Yeah, it's going to come sooner or later. It seems to be later at the moment. Now, the advisor, Chill and Thrill, and local businesses hit hard by alarming crime increases across the state. A couple of articles on the front page of this week's Shepparton advisor, which is now live from the advisor website. Yes, Plemo, our local businesses have been hit hard by alarming crime increases across the state. The story is of statewide statistics and also local statistics. Crime is on the rise statewide with troubling new statistics revealing an upward trend in Victoria. The Crime Statistics Agency reported last week that the number of recorded offenses has surged by 5.5%. So that is a major concern, certainly concerned to – well, everyone. There's a fish and chip shop that I go to now and then, and they've actually rearranged their entire shop and taken stuff out, just because they're sick and tired of people flogging stuff. It must be hard to be a shop owner. Yes, very difficult indeed. In fact, unfortunately, shoplifting is prevalent. And Shepparton is no different to many other regional centers. It's just that it's – we've got these statistics. And looking at Plemo, in greater Shepparton, there were 2,747 total victim reports translating to a rate of 3,957.8 per 1,000 – 300,000 people, I should say, up from – which is a statistic that has increased since December last year. That's a fairly big story in the advisor this week. Yeah, people are in the advisor. Yeah, and on a brighter note, home for holidays, fun, wind activities, there's no place like home and greater Shepparton City Council through its destination, brand, Shepparton and Golden Valley is encouraging locals, and visitors to connect and enjoy the region and stay home for the holidays. From Friday, the 28th, that's this Friday, through to Sunday of July, the 14th locals, friends and relatives who are invited to experience some of the home-grown activities available in Shepparton and Golden Valley. And that's a program that's about to launch, which is good for the region. We've got also Plemo. We've got greater Shepparton Secondary College students entertained. Some excited youngsters from Sacred Heart Tatura last week. We've got some coverage there. A local well-known identity. I'd known an orchardist in the community benefit that Santo Verapodia died at its home recently aged 88. We've got a brief piece there. Santo was awarded Medal of the Order of Australia, and it was an active criterion. It helped raise funds for Westside Performing Arts Center, Rodney Park, Rotama Village, and Shepparton Multicultural Hostile, among other things. And that's in our new section, Briefly Nated. We've also got Australia's Energy Future Boot. Future, Burles says renewables alone can't meet net zero. That's been hot news for a week or two now. And while we don't see a nuclear plant located in the Golden Valley, federal member for Nichols-Sam Burles supports the plan and said modern nuclear technology is an important component to a creditable pathway to net zero by 2050, implying that it's not just nuclear energy that's required, but a whole lot of renewable. Yeah, a little bit from everywhere. That's right. And Plummer, we've got our latest winners in the GMCU advisor, Giveaway Competition. Oh, am I on there? I've been answering. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Ron and McGill, among our winners this week, we've also got letters to the editor. Oh, anything juicy? There's always juicy letters. There's a minister's meager minions, a band for a bleeding farm sector. That's a very strong letter. We've got Victorians say no to hospital mega mergers. And I've also got, Plummer, know your land tax liability this end of financial year. A new land tax threshold introduced by the state government at the start of this year. I've seen many landholders receive a land tax bill for the first time following several others settled with significant high bills. So that's something that's very much on the mind of a lot of people that have worked hard all their lives and invested in property. And that's a story that's well worth looking at. There have been also the peace implies that there's incorrect information that's been sent out as well. So look at your land tax bills carefully to just ensure that you're not being overcharged. No discrepancies. Yes. And Plummer, a major part of the adviser this week, we've got a greatest shepherds quarterly positive living and aging world newsletter. It's a really good section of the paper. Yeah, looking at it now. Yes, and just some of the stories cover living well every season. Life begins at 50. There's a winter classic beef stew empowerment through repair at local community hub. The discounted pharmacy with a friendly feel. Navigating aged care services with Jacinta Kennedy, that's Jacinta Kennedy from Windham House Clinic. And we've also got, how do I live an active fulfilling and financially secure life and retirement. You know, that's a piece by Vince Gagliardi of Maxwell Brown and Mount Royal MB&M and Oz plan. There are other pieces in the feature affordable senior living. And so on nominations are open for a particular award and a bond beyond size. So there's a number of pieces there in that special feature positive living and aging world. Yeah, it's pretty big. Yes, it is. It's a quarterly years later. The advisor puts out and it's well worth a read. We've also got our footy tipping competition. That's very popular. I'm just looking for the page now with an update on who's leading on the ladder of the eight hill. Yes, same do. Yes, same do. Well, Sam is actually just out of the six top six. He's coming seven. Mike Timothy of Lane Market is leading the pack, so to speak. Andrew Hodges from Good for Life Car and Track Rentals is second. Craig Bramley from Food Works is third. Phillip Lennon from A&G. Custom fencing is fourth. Bech Fisher from Harvey Norman Furniture is fifth. And finishing off the top six is Martin Kruger from Kruger's Fine Meats and Small Goods. That's in our footy tipping competition. We've got some sport there. You'll have to give me in on that footy tipping competition next year, I reckon. What's that? You'll have to give me in on the footy tipping next year. Well, yeah, good suggestion. If you don't ask, you don't guess. I know. Give me in there. We'll get someone from one FM in there. Yeah, but we should do that. Just have to remind me when it comes around 2025. So we'll both forget. We've got employment aids. We've got a really good section for trades and services. So you're looking for a trade and service. That's well worth checking out in today's advisor. Absolutely jam-packed once again. Isn't that aging or well-being lift out or feature article? That's got a lot in there. Yes, there's a lot of information in there and it's for the 50+ age group. Well, that's most of our listeners. That's quite a lot of our listeners. It's just a nice, light-hearted, informative feature. Fantastic. Well, thank you very much. It's a pleasure. Pleasure, Playmate. Now, will I be speaking to you next week or I'll just wait for a message to see which one of the Addams boys? I think you've got Will next week, so I'll let the cat over there. Oh, OK. Yep, no worries. I rang Will this morning, but he didn't answer, and that's when I realized it was Jeff. That's right. All right. You have a fantastic week, mate, and we'll speak to you again soon. Thanks, Playmate. Servicing the Valley, is it for 40 years? But that lift out. It's huge, folks. Go and check that out. And if you haven't entered into the competition where you can win, is it GMCU, where you can win $500 vouchers? Get in there. I enter every day. Well, I enter every day that I can. I don't normally enter things, but I want to win. Because if I win, then you guys win because I go buy stuff and then I give it to you. You've been listening to a 1FM podcast.
