Welcome to Square Gators, the local harness racing show. This is all a part of the Super Saturday Sports Show that you can listen to as to keep up to date with all things happening locally and around the world in the world of harness racing. The show is on a weekly basis on a Saturday throughout the year and is hosted by local harness racing identity Daniel Hibbert on 1 FM Shepard and Radio. Welcome back to the Super Saturday Sports Show, 23 minutes to 11 o'clock on your Saturday morning fine and 15 degrees for you. 22nd of June as I bring Dan Hibbert in for Square Gators. How are you Dan? Very well stats. Yes, very well. That's been another busy week and off for the Meadows this this evening. So looking forward to that but. Haven't been there on a Saturday night for a couple of weeks. Yeah, it is shep last week with the Pink Diamond which was a fantastic night. All of the big group races there last Saturday night. Really good crowd. It was freezing cold. It was absolutely bitter there but they had plenty of plenty of heaters going on around the outside of the main building in a big marquee in the home straight near to 650 boxes. It was a super night. They did a really good job there. They should be proud of their efforts and yeah, it was a great night and looking forward to the Meadows tonight and it's certainly been a, certainly a bit harder when it's so dark at 5 o'clock. I'm glad the solstice has been in God and we start to extend the days a little bit over the next few months. Well, not only that as we turn into July and towards the end of July the racing really starts to heat up as we sort of unofficially go into the spring carnival with a lot of races as well, don't we? Yeah, once we get past that strat boat which the Queen's land which was obviously last week, we got a couple more meetings up there to go for their carnival but then it really basically was a little bit of a hiatus and then in the Gallup's world it sort of starts to kick off at the end of June, start of July and then all of a sudden you're into the better races here in Victoria. And Hong Kong about to go into a hiatus as they do this time of year. Royal last got as for the sprinter becoming, I believe, the six Australian horse to win the Old King's stand, they now call it the King Charles III Steaks. Did you watch it? I missed it live but I did see it. It's quite an incredible performance. And when you think that we've the Australians have been able to win that race six times with the quality of horses that we've had, it's an incredible achievement. She was brilliant and I'm not going to denigrate by any stretch of the imagination but she was probably one of the more least likely of the ones that we've sent over there. There was a question Marker and it wasn't there. It wasn't whether she was up to that ability or up to that level but for Henry O'Dorney's team to get it right on the night and win the race, it's not easy. I know it's a thousand metres but I mean it's not just a flat thousand metre dash. You're going uphill and downhill on that track. If you see the horses in the carriages coming down the centre of the track before the first race with all the dignitaries including the King and Queen, it's very up undulating ground. So for a win that race, over a thousand metres when you've really got to probably be able to run a strong 1,200 just because of how tough it is, it was a really good performance. And a bit of a redemption story for Alts and Murphy as well who you probably don't know the background to that story or won't go into it. But like he has taken over for him and he was at the crossroads of his career at one point but I love him as a jockey. I reckon he's great. He's raced out here in Australia as well and yeah it was great to see him aboard as well. There's a documentary. I think it's called Horsepower which I've seen on Racing.com and I'm sure you'll be able to follow on YouTube. He got in trouble for drugs being in his system which from all reports was inadvertent. It didn't actually take anything that he shouldn't have been doing anything that he shouldn't have just got in a bad situation and it was how bad he was trying to win the jockey's premiership over there in England. He's a really good rider and to get that win there, well anyway on the Royal Meetings, a big effort. And to do it on Ozzy Horse as well it's very very pleasing for us down here also. Well, as true a wins the calls King Stan, the King Charles of Third Stakes, along which was here in 2003, take over target in 2006, Miss Andretti in 2007. Nature strip in 2022, scenic blast all the way back to 2009. Of course, Black, Abia won the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. It wasn't the King Stan. I know a lot of people don't follow race and get that confused. They probably would get that confused but she certainly won on the last day. Yeah, to Saturday. They usually run the Diamond Jubilee tonight. Yeah, so the King Stan is always on the first night and the, well it's now, it's called the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes. And I'm just actually having a look at that field as I speak, there's 14 in that race tonight and there's obviously no nothing from this part of the world in that race tonight. Well Dan, what do you got for us to wait that was like? We'll have a look at, we go back to La Salle. Now we've got a new, a new big trainer that's moved into the area. I haven't mentioned him too much lately until he sort of really settled in and that's Shane Sanderson. He was obviously over in Charlton. He's been in Queensland and Northern New South Wales for a long time as well. Made the move to Charlton. They bought a property down at Murchison and set up shop there with Ryan and Abby the Kids who were a great drivers in their own right and they had a double there to melt on the Saturday night. Al mate Manko won the second race of the night, led all the way, dictated turns 155.6. Ryan took the drive there, was a $5 chance, was able to score, was a very easy win in the end for hit. The other winner they had on the card was in the fourth head of the Metropolitan Pace with Vanquish stride. It came and got over the top of Ludacross in 153.7. So a good double there for the Sanderson's. They get the couple of victories there at Melton and Vanquish stride goes around in the final of that Metropolitan Pace tonight. We headed to Bendigo on Tuesday and Russell Jack had a winner there with Major Maury, a three-year-old by art major at a jazz opera. So nicely bred, jazz opera's very good producing mayor, has had seven foals go to the races and all but one has been able to win. The three of them have had more than a dozen wins, so some really good ones through that line. Able to get the victory, worked forward, it was out wide for a fair portion but it was two good 156.2 and narrow victory for Major Maury. That was at Bendigo on Tuesday night. The meeting at Swan Hill on Wednesday and Nathan Jack took Island Melia up to Swan Hill on the Battle of the Bush Maiden. So a three-year-old Philly by art major at a special needs, drew the car park, barrier 12 or 13, but basically barrier 12 and it was too good. I don't narrowly, just beating the rank outside of Remy Magic in 2.1.3 mile rate there so well done Nathan with the victory at Swan Hill. Cameron Maggs also made the trip up with Windstock. It won the fifth race on the card, was able to score in a two-minute 0.3 mile rate. It was a $3.80 chance. Cameron made it a double win. He drove the Brian Keezy prepared Admiral of the fleet to win this following race. It was an $8 chance in that race there at Swan Hill on Wednesday. Shepherd and race on Thursday night this week and watch it happen won the first for David Miles. It was the favourite. 2.1.8 the mile rate there. Got up on the sprint lane to charge through and win and beat Boog good scout in the line as a hill. Joey's hangover was the winner of the second. He led all the way. He's going well the 9-year-old. Certainly doesn't win out of turn but in that sort of class when he gets the right draw he's very competitive. 2.2 the rate there. Eagles and Indians won the third. Another one for Terry French Liam Olde this time. It was a $51 chance. They went pretty hard in this race. There's plenty of pace on early. Well-well went very hard and King Calufo who was the favourite for McPutt Carbon and James Urbets. It pulled itself into the ground and still ran fourth but Eagles and Indians had a cold sit on them, was able to run over the top and score. Kai Valley Picasso won the trot for Brent Lill, Tristan Larson. Two good came down the outside with a strong run at the finish beating Avant Garde and Hurricane Jane. 2.3.1. Ghost of time on the first look of the quality. Steve Loftus, Glenn Craven led and it was two good. 1.56.5 was the mile rate there for Ghost of Time. It was having its first run since September of 2023. It had been off the scene for a fair while but came back to the race as a winner on Thursday night. Smart and Mighty was the favourite in the 6th race. Very short price favourite. Worked forward to the lead. It was two good in 1.58.9. It had to be Harry won the trot for Laura Wilson, Damien Wilson. They quineled the race with creatable running second and it was a $3.70 chance Harry and he led all the way. He was too good, 2.4. They made it a double. Damien made it a double when Burnside had a boom one. The next he led all the way in a 2.4 mile rate, $3.50 and Hoppy won the last three-year-old trot for Matthew Craven and James Herbert. He led all the way. He dictated terms. There was no speed on in this race. He was able to cruise home in a 2.3.8 mile rate there at Shepherd and on Thursday night. We raced at Ballarat last night. There wasn't any local flavour there. Obviously, Mildura as well. Quite day for the local participants yesterday. Back into it. We've got trials at Cobram tomorrow, which is good to see. First lot of trials there in quite some time. Then we've got a race meeting at a Chuka on Wednesday night. They've got 11 races. First at two minutes after five on Wednesday night. Last of 11. Gee to go at 9.59. So good field. Good size field throughout the whole of that program at a Chuka on Wednesday night. But that's a wrap of the week that was in local harness racing stats. No worries. Dan will take a sponsors break and we'll try and find the winner at Mountain this evening. That we'll do. Let Merritt Funeral Services take the stress out of your funeral arrangements. You're one stop for all your sports news. 10 minutes to 11 o'clock here at 1FM 98.5 Live and local, you are in square gate as with the voice of RSN Dan Hibbard, my favourite time of the week where we try and find a winner. Be gamble aware and as always, gamble responsibly. Dan, we're at Melton for the drops this evening. Yes, I've got my bloke going around again tonight. Hopefully you can go one better than it did last start and it gets the opportunity in race 5. But the multi race first league is race 3 tonight. First couple of races, I'm just steering clear of a really tricky affairs. The free for all, the blacks are fake free for all is the first really competitive race. I've got no real confidence in that at all. Markdown is probably the one to beat, but Barkin in particular going very well. The second race, the favourite is Captain Hammerhead for Dave Moran, but he's $1.45 from barrier 2 on the second row. Not keen to play in that one either. He probably will win the race, but just going to steer clear of that one. So we're going to go race 3. Number 4 roadmaster who's $1.90. This is the metropolitan pace final. So the heats were run last week. They ran them. The heats were run interestingly here because they were segregated on class. So they ran a low class heat and then they ran a class above that and then a class above that and then more of an open class heat at the end. So depending on which heat you won, you're in against easier opposition or harder opposition. And if you're in the easier ones, then you obviously drew better than those that were in the harder races. So roadmaster was a very, very impressive. He went $1.52 seven in his heat and provided that hasn't taken anything out of him. He was first up since September when he ran out of, ran in the three-year-old Colson Gildings Vic Bread File and did no good. But that was a brilliant performance to win his heat. As long as he doesn't have second up syndrome, he'll be very competitive in this I think. So race 3 number 4 for the first week of the multi and the second week's race 4 number 11 rockin' with attitude for David Miles. She was very good last time out behind Alda Varenvera who's in this race as well. They're both drawn 10 and 11. Alda Varenvera's had two starts back for two wins. Rockin' with attitude just that first up run and I thought she was really good. I think, I don't think Vira will get too far away from him in the run and I think if Rockin' with attitude's close enough to Alda Varenvera and gets the right toe into the race, I think she can overhaul her and win it. Virginica was very impressive winning last week in a stand but comes back to a mobile so that might sort her out from barrier number 2. But keen on the 11 there in the second leg of our multi, so the multi's race 3 number 4 roadmaster into race 4 at number 11. Rockin' with attitude. For a road and a rock, you'll get $5.70 Dan. There you go. So hopefully we can get that so. Race is 3 and 4 there tonight. For the Cottie, first week is race 5. My bloke of feast is Phoenix has drawn 5 and he takes on his old muscle again who beat him the other day. Now the barrier draws have really come in our favour. We've got the front row draw, he hasn't and he's drawn the inside of the second row which is going to make it a little bit interesting at the start. All things being ankle, we should be able to power on and hopefully find the lead and if he does that I think he's going to be very, our blokes are going to be very hard to beat but you've got to put his old muscle in because he was brilliant the other day. It's over the 1700 as well so 5 and I put 5.89 in the first league. Harry Stamper was a good last start. He ran third in that same race as his old muscle in the feast is Phoenix and he just might have turned the corner a little bit after two pretty average ones to start his campaign. So 5.89 the first league. Second league is a dead set raffle. I wouldn't begrudge you if you took the field but I've narrowed it down to 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 10, 11 and 13. Absolute raffle it's 380 the field, no confidence in anything in this race. It's such an open affair. Son of Max is the favourite but he's figure form is horrible after he's first who runs back from a spell. Mind you he hasn't been, hasn't been really been afforded too many favours in either of those runs. So he could win without surprising but it's that sort of race. Very tricky affair. Third league is the seventh race. Numbers here 1 and 8. The sun and the moon and a lot like Louis. I think the sun and the moon will lead. I think a lot like Louis will sit on its back. Leader leader leader leader's back. Leader either wins or the one up on the sprint lane for a lot like Louis. I think they're the top two clearly so narrowed it down there. The last league we go one out with number 8 Bay of this game. Three-year-old pace. He's first up but all of the Clayton Tonkin runners are just flying. This guy's had nine starts. One, five of them second, the other three. 173,000 in stakes. He's drawn eight but he's only got one horse on his outside. So he's going to be very hard to beat. I just think he'll win. So race in the last league's number eight. So the quality $48 for 100%. Five, eight, nine, the first league. One, two, three, six, eight, ten, eleven, thirteen, the second league. One, eight, the third league, eight, only $48 for 100%. Hang on down. I've just got to get that second leg because I missed one. I think I missed one. Yeah. One, two, three, six, eight, ten, eleven and thirteen. So I'll just throw eleven in there because I missed it. Make sure you get them all in there. They don't want to miss any of them. Do it again. And here we go with the eleven. What those five doubles give me? I think it'd be about ten percent. Yeah, I was going to say it would have been near enough to ten percent. So hopefully we can get that tonight and hopefully our bloke does a really good job in that first league of the quality there tonight. Yeah, just pointing out for all the punters out there. Ran week has been abandoned today due to the wet weather. And when does it not rain in Sydney? Yeah, no, unbelievable. Isn't it? Had a really bad trot at the start of the year, didn't it? And it seems that it came good again for the autumn carnival. But now it seems to be back towards old ways. Unfortunately up there in Sydney on a good floor at Flemington day today, the winter series continues on its merry way. At Flemington the first and nine gets underway at ten minutes to high noon on the good floor. And I am just going through what was my better bet of the day. And it's a really tricky card actually at Flemington. We might make it. We'll go with Gidolf and we'll try and get it early. Race one, number one, Pisces for Gidolf and Blake Schingit and James Cummings. Blake Sching in the saddle of course. The only issue with him I guess is he's drawn out the outside gate but there's four scratching so he does come into barrier 12. So Blake Sching very good form, two wins from six each way or day I think with it about the four dollar mark at the moment. So I'll have three dollars to win on Pisces. We'll have just saw it there. Race one number five, it's one of mine, Jenny's Medo. Have two dollars to win on it. That's a two horse play there of course. At Ranwick we are done but it's Ipswich Cup day up there at Ipswich Town. And look I'm not being any frills here. I just think the favourite wins at race seven number one top weight lunacies for Ryan Maloney and Kevin Lee's. Yeah, it's going to be hard to beat. Drawn low, it had two runs back from a spell. Both at Duhrman was fifth, only beaten four and then was three and a half behind just folk at Eagle Farm last start. So you'd think it's going to be pretty competitive in this race. Greyhound's Dan I should have asked you, Medo's this evening. Yeah, Medo's this evening my best best bet is race eight number two drill sergeant. Now he's a dollar seventy. He was a dollar ninety before. He should just win this easily. It's a distance race at seven hundred and thirty metres but he's flying here at a very fast time last start. There's a couple in this and I'm a bit suspect over the trip. He'll get out. He'll lead. He'll be in front. It's just whether he holds them all at bay. Look I think he's pretty close to a good thing in this race. Race eight number two drill sergeant. Purely because I think you'll lead and purely because the rest of them are very even but I don't think there's any superstars or anything in that race. Aside from that, it's a pretty competitive meeting. The one to keep an eye on early on. Race two number six blue Camaro for Josh Formosa. It's a dollar ninety five. He's won four in a row. He's just flying and he loves the Medo. So he might be an anchor with the other one for a multi. So we'll go race two number six and race eight number two for a multi there at the Meadows tonight. No worries and really quickly if I can get onto it, I might not be able. I might run out of titles hoping to get to Royal Ascot for the Kingstand and it is race three on it. I recorded one this morning. Look I like a bit of a roughy in it. Jockey of the carnival Ryan Moore for Charlie Fellows. Number ten, which is race three number ten. The Wizard of I. First up one for Charlie Fellows. He's a really good trainer as we know. He comes down to Oz with his good horses. Back in each way. He's a ten dollar chance. Thanks Dan. Thanks mate.
