Of course Mark Owens, I'm your host this evening. Jason Asplin is away. We're going to get him on the phone really, really shortly to talk about round 14. Played the Collingwood song I suppose. I had to really not because I'm a Collingwood supporter but the coming back from 9 goals down 54 points to win against a very gallant North Melbourne at Docklands last Sunday afternoon. Saw them in the annals of history in a way in relation to comebacks of AFL football. Thanking Ralph Whitehead for the last two and a half hours of course. He will be back this coming Sunday to give away the album Willie Nelson. A beautiful time of course. He's on for the next two sundays on open spaces for of course the next two weeks as he fills in this coming Sunday and the following week as well. So he'll be back on the 23rd of June. Can you believe that? That'll be seven days out from the end of the financial year. Of course today is the winter solstice as well as sure to stay the year and I hope your day at work went really, really short and quickly as well as I welcome to the microphone fully opening bounce ahead of round 15. Of course the big clash tonight. Carlton taking on Geelong for the National Indigenous Radio Service. Live from the MSCG. We're book ending the round for the National Indigenous Radio Service. This coming Sunday will see us in the last game as well with free manel taking on a course. Gold Coast Suns in the Western Australia area. Perth to be precise. Optus stadium if you will. As I welcome to the microphone Sydney to bridge. As well and how you being seen? I'm good. Thank you very much. Good to be here and welcome everybody out there listening. On Sunday I was at the Giant's Football Network playing the pigeons from up in Yara Wunga. Yara Wunga yet. And they got a bit of a touch up. The Yara Wunga boys did, they were big and strong and they looked really good though. You know it was a good game of footy and it was playing the right spirit which was terrific everyone and they had a barbecue there. It was a sponsor's day so it was very good. But I was standing next to Freddie's mum ever and we were chatting away there and then I looked at the scores and the poor old pies were down and she was giving me a touch up because I'd hit them occasionally and they were down by 52 points. And she was not very impressed with the world. And then they came back and we went inside and we were having a something to eat there which they always put a marvellous feed on there at the Giant. And they started to come back and come back and then it was a half a dozen of us around there watching this last couple of minutes. It was very exciting, well done the pies. North, a little bit unlucky I suppose you could say but they gave it a red hot crack and that's what I want to see from North. We were seeing that last year's stats but we haven't seen much of it this year. I guess our moral winners on the day weren't they? I mean you got to say that look Collingwood again getting out of jail. I mean I loved it as a Collingwood supporter but at the end of the day full credit to North Melbourne. I thought that they were absolutely gallant and look they deserved to win the game and if it wasn't for let's face it a call that should have been made late in the game they probably would have won. Yeah you're right stats, that should have been 50. No doubt whatsoever. In the same vein they had a couple of shots there at the end where they had enough space there. They could have popped them through when they they were rushing trying to get that score and missed them. So North, you know that would gallant. You're absolutely right but again, no chocolates. We'll go back and we'll dissect that game a little more but we'll go back to Friday night at the Gabba. Of course apologies, we didn't get the National Indigenous radio service off the ground last Friday evening. They tried in vain to get the game to us but the lines took on the Saints at the Gabba last Friday evening and the line's 19, 12, 126 to the Saints 16, 10, 106. The lines jumped out to a 31 point lead at quarter time. The line's major goal kickers were Joey Danner, with five goals one, Logan Morris with three goals, Jack Higgins with five goals one for the losers, the Saints and Logan Morris with three goals. And the talk's been during the week with Ross Lyon. Do you lose pretty or do you win ugly? I'm happy to win ugly. Like there was been a lot of talk about Ross Lyon and how he coaches. Even back when he was coaching at St. Kilda the first time and got him to two grand finals, three grand finals and lost them. Those and then he took three on and he had a similar game style but he won game stats. What do you want to do? Do you want to get beaten like you know on a regular basis and not be in the game or? And I thought on Friday night by quarter time I thought this game's over the Saints at their normal horrible selves. Then they had a bit of a crack and I thought the last three quarters obviously they were in the game and if it wasn't for a game a ticky touch umpire 50 metre penalty against Windhager who came in from the in front of the mark. So he wasn't really sure it was right in the umpire which they do every other time come back. They didn't even they just stood there and he straight away paid 50. Then Brisbane kicked three quick goals and rounded out to 20 points again. You know to get back within seven points there I thought that was a pretty good effort from the Saints. It was great that they'd kick 16 goals. It was great to see that but they still lost in the end. Look the one stat that really permeated through for mine was the marking stat 151 marks to 84. You can't only up Brisbane at the gabber to be plus 67 in marks. It just got to dominate and control the tempo. And when you've got the likes of McCluggage and Wilmot and Zorko responsible for 29 of those marks it makes it really hard for sides to win at the gabber. If you're going to let Brisbane control the air like that their forward pressure was absolutely relentless. They brought that back a little bit Brisbane in recent times and they got Saint Kilda on the outside as well. We've uncontested possession. Look for the Saints. Wind ugly lost pretty. Well you can say that I suppose but they were really good in the clearances, stoppages and centre breaks actually. They just turned the ball over on occasions. Their tackle pressure around the ground was okay. It was 48 to 35 tackles. Yeah it wasn't too bad on the day. Clearances 35 to 26 so they were on top there. They won the hit outs as well. And they tried to dominate the handball which did worry Brisbane at times with their handball run. I was very impressed with Marshall's game. He was in everything. He really turned the tide therefore. I know Sinclair was good in Higgins but I thought Marshall was outstanding and he gave back a new game. I think he's having a really good year hasn't he? He has, yeah he got touched up by Maxi Gorn the other week and he had a couple of weeks there but other than that he's been pretty good. McAnerney was down on the night. He got a well touched up. My cluggage was good but gee Danner was marked everything, kicked okay and you know he was the difference on the night. Yeah Zorko with nine score involvement at Harback 30 disposals meters gained 755 and nine marks. And he, look it's just a new trend of Harback's controlling the game in the AFL. We've seen it particularly in the last two or three seasons and Zorko we've talked about it in other shows has found his niche down there. Yeah he's back to his best. He's in fine form. One interesting question I got for you is what did you think of the tagging of Locky Neil? Yeah look I think that Locky Neil, I think he struggles with tags to be quite honest but look as long as it's fair and I didn't, I didn't think like always with tags you're going to be on the edge aren't you? You're going to sort of dance around the rules of fair bit aren't you? Yes. When you're a tagger but as long as you sort of, if you don't go over the top with it and you can bend the boundaries but if you go past the boundaries then yeah like anything I suppose you got to reward the player that's being tagged. Well he only got two free kicks four, three free kicks four and one against, no four against, sorry my eyes are not working properly. You know so freeze four three and three against four so the tagger was obviously had him right off his game he only got, he didn't score very well super coach wise either I don't think he got to be in 70 which is way down on his season average so you've got to say this is what we were talking about a month or so ago why are teams not locking down players and Geelong will get their game and their big centre half back who's been awesome for years all of a sudden he's getting tagged a bit and he's not getting the effect on the game so tagger's got to be in. Yeah look I agree but at the end of the day they still won the lines yeah with the tag so in that in that instance when my luggage got off the chain it worked toward the degree yeah and and that's and this is what we're saying at calling with their tagging nick day costs but others are getting off the chain as a result of the tag on nick day cost so look am I full tagged yeah I don't mind tags I'm I think they're a great tool to have in your your weaponry your armory. Oh you've got to have one you've got to have one and I reckon you're writing to tag locky kneel were they successful in tagging locky kneel probably dulling he's influenced they were but ultimately the lines have won by 20 points. So but if they hadn't tagged them and let him run loose it might have been 50 points you don't know that but to shut their best player and I think he's still their best player locky kneel and I don't just think it's got to be part of your game you've got to be able to do that I know when I was coaching right I was always looking for somebody you know you'd be watching a player doesn't matter who with the best player not but he was having a bit of a purple patch I had somebody I was going to send to him and I had somebody that I wanted go go to him you don't have to do anything silly but if you're there contesting every ball he's got to get then he's got to be under more pressure for a start. Jack Higgins and five goals one for the Saints was sensational he's a lively small forward that applies a lot of pressure. He does he does I thought he was outstanding you know in some of those goals he should have got he should have stopped for one he pinged away and it was a free kick that he ran on and tried to kick the goal and missed it but you know you do these sort of things I reckon so I'm not so concerned at the odd miss Butler was okay got a couple of goals as well I still don't know that there's room in their forward line for both Butler and Higgins. The Lions at 13 put the six and six and one record they've had the draws so six wins six losses and a draw can they make finals from here. I think they do actually I think they they've found that they've been a form that the they're a game out currently yeah which is nothing at this time of year it's two or ten games or whatever to go so I would think they've got to be in there when you look at the we'll get to the ladder a bit later but if you look at the bottom half of the ladder the cats are not doing that well who else is in there that you could free hour they're going to stay there probably because of their home games but I'm not sold on them you could really have poured Adelaide in that conversation they're up and down as well and are in Sam's spot currently and Essen are going to be tested over the next month or more I feel that they'll probably drop the bundle as well so I reckon Brisbane will get up and get in the eight. St Kilda season done five and nine they're 10 points outside the eight currently you'd think they'd need a miracle a minor one at least anyway a major miracle considering the way they're playing they're just they don't have the run I don't know what like in the game on Friday not your right stats they got up to 19 goals and some of that play on is what what I was thinking or we were going to get all year that's what we're talking about that's what we've seen in the preseason and all of a sudden we get to the season we're watching Stodgy rubbish they're not moving the ball so unless they actually have this break and really change what they're doing I can't say making finals no the doctors took on the dogs over at Docklands on Saturday afternoon it was the day game on Saturday afternoon and a lot were quietly tipping the doctors to beat the dogs but it wasn't the case in the end the dogs 2311 149 to the doctors 12 10 82 so it was a 67 point win an 11 goal win to the dogs Riley West with four goals for the winners the Western Bulldogs Cody Waipman with three goals and for the doctors Sam Stewart with three goals and Bailey Banfield field with three as well I love Riley West I think he's just he's only a little fella around that but I don't think he's missed a goal this year and any game he's played he's always got a goal to get four was outstanding really good bottom Pali I want to say he's the best player in the in the comp but I'm not sure that the Brown low will actually say that three goals 30 disposals 15 score involvements eight marks seven clearances and 682 meters gain for the bond pretty good game just down Docklands he did it's a pretty good player and he and I love watching him I love that that strength that he brings to a contest he's a great player I reckon if anybody is is out of contract I believe at the end of the year and he's put off contract talks if I was any club I'd be throwing I'd give him two million dollars the year that's right that's what I think he's worth to aside any side that he came into would be all of a sudden a decent side I thought they were a good by foot the dogs very efficient by foot they just cut free mantle but they kicked a humble ratio was improved in recent times at the start of the year and in past years as well the handle the kick ratio has been really that there's been too many handles yes for mine too many flip-flopping around they've tidied that up a little bit particularly in the last month and the ratio is sort of it's sort of one kick the two handballs which is a lot a lot better from the dogs 230 kicks and 146 handballs yeah and that's the ratio like two to one or one to two that's where you want it at yeah Friel had 180 and 120 handballs yeah I just felt that they they've tidied that up I've noticed that when I go through the stats on a weekly basis particularly to bulldogs on handball like you say I think it's for the dogs 146 to 120 a game's free man or but yeah 230 kicks to 146 that's where you about want it so the dogs are now preparing to slow the game down a lot more whereas I was just phonetically running all the time and rushing and slowing down has obviously resulted in them hitting the goals I mean 23/11s a really nice return and that they also lifted their their efficiency up to 78 and whereas Friel was at 68 percent that's a huge difference isn't it can mean you're coughing the ball up a lot more often and that gives you it gives the ball back the other side one of the objects you've got our game is to keep possession whether you've got it or your mates got it this fine as long as you've got possession you've got a chance of winning let's talk about Friel where are they at yeah where are they at well just before you do go off that there's seven and seven and nine for the dogs can they play finals all year people have been talking about they can't mate the top eight they're going terrible but all of a sudden there's seven and seven and knocking on the door yeah dear there they're a gentle and high don't they seven and sevens not a great um it's break even is fair enough and only one game out of the eight is okay but can they do it consistently that's what we haven't seen from them for a few years we're not seeing that run of four or five six wins in a row which they're going to need to do to get up there and play finals i'd like to see them in there i love the dogs i think they're they're a struggle and battling club that put everything they got on the line and i don't know i'm one in the in the basket of i think it's time they got a new coach as my thought they had five players a kick three goals or more mmm yeah it's a good spread of things and Norton's due back next week i think isn't he i think he's due back soon yeah i think it's next week so that'll help them a lot uh uh uh free i'm going to hang in the in the eight mmm that's a 50 50 it the how many games that they got at home do you know it's that's 20 chance i'm not sure i'd have to look that up it you dare say where are we now we're at round 14 with 10 that goes so round 15 with nine to go and they're at home this weekend i dare say after this weekend they've probably got four or five we're about having a look at it and they've got to win all of those and they've still got a pinch one or two away and early in the season their runway form was okay so this was a bit of a flat spot you could say for them but this is what they did last year isn't it after a good year they'd be four making finals and last year they had a bit of a run and then had their break had the and they come back after the break in terrible form lost three or four in a roast right away and we're all instantly out of the finals contention if that happens again this this week then gee where are they at and uh who have they got this week at home they've got Gold Coast that's that's not a game on sunday that's not a digital ceratius that's not a given is it no no not at all in the same vein to your burs before um Gold Coast before they had the break they got well touched up in Melbourne they've had the break and now they're coming back and they've got to travel you know that can be a bit iffy as well so that's a 50-50 game in my mind we've got Richmond in the twilight game of course Dusty's 300th with all marbled at that kick the first goal of the game the Hawks oh 14 13 97 they played the villain they said afterwards and enjoyed playing the villain on the afternoon in the twilight zone at the g Richmond 6 13 49 so a pretty comprehensive win to the Hawks in the end which sees him now 12 spot on the ladder with a seven and seven record and knocking on the door of finals as well as with the western Bulldogs the same record or like Brisbane yeah and isn't it funny at the moment you've got the Bulldogs in nine spot the seven and seven record and Hawthorne in 12 spot the seven and seven record that's just how tight the AFL ladder is right now and yeah Dusty's 300 it was a great occasion I mean there was some 90 odd fails and it turned up to the G to have a look at Dusty and 92 thousand I think it was I did write a town somewhere and I just can't find it but it was over 90 I think it might have been even 94 so you might find just shift your tree branch there and you'll find it in amongst your tree branches yeah no but Dusty had a pretty solid day you were right 92 311 yeah and that's a that's the second highest ever home and away crowd between these two clubs that's a pretty good school Dusty was fine he did what he has to do and you know he got the first goal which was pretty good I was pretty impressed with that and that gave Richmond a bit of a start Richmond actually looked pretty good to start with didn't he yeah they did and Hawthorne and he thought oh I don't know where they at is it going to be the day for Richmond but no it wasn't Hawkes then came into the game and I was impressed with so many of these Sicily down back with solid new comb weedle wittle isn't he a good player he's a great player and he's a great disposal seven marks he's bigger than you think too he's like a rangey sort he's a you know like that that's a brilliant shape for a footballer and he has a go he doesn't care about anything else anybody else he sees the ball get ball play that that's terrific I love that in a footballer Sicily 33 disposals and 15 marks 891 meters going yeah best game he's played probably for the season he was outstanding you know so Dambrosio it's a toss-up I think between Dambrosio and the rachman for the swans Grundy Grundy yeah Grundy's probably shading him but Dambrosio he's looking like a real footballer he's a link player he does everything he asked for and Richmond and Hawthorne got him for a song yeah I was like and he's you're right I was like can he be at least a second best recruited the season of the ones that have already played a course and yeah and Grundy had probably been top pick currently oh I reckon 23 possessions you know like that's what can you ask for a guy that's and it's still it's only a second year football that like Essen had picked him up halfway mid-season draft gave him a few games and then tossed him out I bet they're regretting that now Essen the way they got Richmond in the end was in the center breaks 14 the seven so they doubled him in the center breaks they smashed him with uncontested position and handball run at the moment Richmond do look a little bit slow in open space I know they they're doing a off the back of those grand finals was to win that open space loose ball ground ball get they're not doing that currently anymore Richmond and it's just looking a little bit slow each for them right now I think they'll pick it up again in time but some of those old premiership Tigers are just sort of starting to get a little bit tired said I have to be looking at where they're going now Richmond I think that's a it's a crutch crunch time in the fact that they're on the way they're going backwards right they've got three or four players there that other clubs would really like um you know so if you look at what what could they do with that list trento he'll stay because he's not he's mid to later range so that I'm happy with him but the likes of rioli um sons are going to have a decent first round pick they've got plenty they don't need anymore they really they'd be happy to offload that first round pick you know could be anything up to say pick eight or ten something like that really make it the hawks I think they do the way they're playing they're playing as a team you know they've got good decent forwards they're backline solid um I actually do think they do they're playing great footy and I'd be if I was playing them this week again I'd be worried so if will we say that about freo would we say that about jalon will we worry about playing them at this point no we're worried about playing author so if they get another keep their run go on another three or four wins they're in the eight we'll have a look at of course Adelaide taking on the swans the phone is ringing I reckon that might be Jason Asplin trying to call us back so we'll go to the Saturday night game and then we'll go to a sponsors break and have a look at the two sunday games and we'll ask for Jason's opinion on the Saturday games as well Adelaide of course played the swans and dominated for particularly the first quarter they started to get wheeled in after quarter time though in the end the swans 16 13 100 9 4 goals 4 2 Adelaide's 10 7 67 it was all about the Amarti party we found nine goals wasn't it nine one was pretty good a dominant display ten disposals seven marks and I like this stat six tackles from forward that's good isn't it but only ten ten disposals right and his kick nine goals won so he hasn't wasted anything he's he's been really art on the ball what I was the question was asked all through the week why did you know the big horse the coach take him off the ground with time to go you know to get his ten well what do you think about that do you think he should have left him out there and had a sense of fear to because let's face it Joel Amarti may or may not probably more likely to may not ever get that opportunity again yeah the thing is he's been a bit injury prone through his career you've had a great he's had a great day he's got nine the games in the bag as a coach I'm thinking yeah look let's not push it any further I so I'm on long miles bit I tend to agree with you and really what was lost in that conversation around Amarti getting ten goals was he didn't kick a goal in the first term all these goals came after quarter time so he was out there for a quarter and and didn't kick one and had an opportunity to do it and so yeah interesting but I think that look I saw it a long way because there's there's obviously a grand plan and that's to win the grand final and your one of your traditional sayings is at this stage of the year we're only playing for a spot in the finals yeah so why would you risk a guy that's been injury prone had a great day I think that's spot on by the coach the other one that had a sensational game for the swans was Errol Goulding he had he kicked two behinds but had 35 disposals 10 clearances six tackles meters going 768 and 10 score involvements what about Grundy he was brilliant as well 21 disposals kick two points but he got 154 super coach points he ruled the 49 he'd out yep he ruled the rock in that way so Sydney they had just taken along will they hit a wall at some point through the season that's you know the most teams do well that always hit the wall already they're already having in a review at the club where do you see that heading probably trading out half a dozen players that are just not coach stays they just signed into a new two-year deal on the back of just missing finals last year there was a lot of talk then that he's the only coach in their history that's coached four years without making finals and hasn't got the sack and they've given him a two-year extension i think they've got to run with next year they've got to give him one more and say look you know this is your make-all-die year for you this year hasn't worked for him did they go in with the wrong mental attitude i think they did they said we should have been playing finals the umpires ripped us off here and that happened there and whatever we were we were better than that and i think they came in with a blasei attitude that we're just going to play our game and make finals well i got a rude awakening to start the season against the sons and it's continued on so they're in big trouble but i think it's more where where the players at i think the coach will stay but there's half a dozen players there already this talk that they're not going to renew walkers contract been a bit injured he's had a back injury this year and not played a lot uh he's almost a year's at the end of his career but there's half a dozen others in their bullies is another one they picked him up i think from the sons and he's he's not going to make it there either there's a half a dozen others in there that you you work your way down the list keens one butz is okay uh marry foggity the jury's still out a bit on foggity he has started to find a little bit early in the game he got a couple of goals and looked good and then did nothing afterward i'd like to see him after unique stay but it's negotiating with that media and that bubble in south australia and not only that the fans yeah yeah i know but they were they were clubbed that normally sticks with what they've got and then at a certain point they say that's it well i've just signed him to a two-year contract this is wow i don't think i think this is the end of his last contract this year so he's still got two more to go i reckon they'll give him one so might leave it there we might leave it there at the saturday games we will try and get jason asplan on the line and we might do a a really quick little review of the saturday games we've still got two sunday games coming out of round 14 to talk about particularly that game between north melbourne and collingwood and i'm sure jason will have a bit to say on that as well but we'll go to a sponsors break coming up the other side and end we all know now collingwood 18 11 119 to nope melden's at nine four a hundred and 18 19 four well no i say nine four 19 four a hundred and 18 beg your pardon thank you thanks for the correction Sydney by the way it's kicking isn't that 19 four yeah oh it's great kicking by north melden and uh collingwood kick that one point day one by point in the end so yeah great to see uh luke david juneyaki he lit it up with 10 score involvements 31 disposals george wardlaw he's a terrific little player uh of course he's lost 19 to 20 games now an unbelievable start to a career 10 score involvements and 30 disposals and even though nick day cost was tagged and there was a lot to talk about around that as well he still had 29 disposals to lead all comers for the pies i'd look you right there um coach was you know it was really bagged for taking because he was being tagged you see right and he took the player off that was tagging him at three quarter time and he felt that the player that was tagging him was starting to fade you know nick day cost is a pretty fit and whatever so he he took him off put shields on and um on him and and shields was okay but it wasn't just that last quarter where day cost it was a third quarter where he really started to get involved in the game and the tag wasn't working after that so why would you bag you know the coach over making a move that he fell right he said afterwards he said oh maybe i could have left him on but you know i made the choice and now i've got to live with it so day cost was very instrumental in the win there's no doubt about that side bottom had a really good game a lot of people had written him off early in the season and he looked old and slow but he's found his mojo and he's taken along very nicely crisp as having a good run for you hill is he did he take either of his two big marks mark of the year five goals for bobby hill as well but nick larky kick four goals as well i think they were all in the first quarter i'm not sure i didn't i was as i say i wasn't there i was um watching the Giants play footy so i didn't see much of it or even hear it it was one of the few i didn't larky yeah he was good but he kicked forth straight so he didn't waste his opportunities she's all had a bit of a you know only 18 disposal is probably down by his he's mark zuhar he's finding a little bit of form now he's had a contract at the end of the year and a few clubs are chasing him but how would that club be if they had a bonta pally in there gee you know so when i say is easy worth of me enough to me in a year a year for bonta pally i think is all four goals came in the first quarter for nick larky very nice very nice um so there's a couple of other stats that i really did like the fact that their efficiency was 74 the collingwood 69 um the kicks 228 for north 140 handballs collingwood 156 kicks and 144 handballs so their ratio is right out of plum isn't it yeah look statistically kpi wise they're all over collingwood i guess i often say this particularly the last two seasons when it comes to collingwood they're gonna they amp the pressure after half time they got this new pressure rating now i don't know how they come to it but collingwood's pressure was right down in the first half and then it was back to the levels of 2023 where they go on to win a grand final and all of a sudden you see these north melbourne players fumbling looking over their shoulder and even though they're winning the kpi's it's just that pressure of collingwood that just worries north melbourne out of it at the at at just at the fall of the ball at certain stages and a lot of the kpi's for north they were dominant in the first half with those kpi's collingwood improved a little bit with like marks around the ground and clearances and center breaks which wasn't much in that in the end towards the end of the game although north melbourne did hold the ascendancy in those stats just and to is about halfway through the third quarter that it started but it's just this pressure that they create and when they create this pressure that it like all these scores like that sides in the last two years have had opportunities really like to beat collingwood with scores late in games and all gettable goals but just that pressure of the moment just puts them off free kicks north 14 collingwood 24 look there's a lot to be said about that i mean i don't want to i i don't i normally don't go into free kicks no although what i will say is this statistically it looked like for the majority of the game north melbourne were first for the ball for the majority of the game and work and weren't rewarded that's what it tells me yeah it does me too why you're in front like that you normally get the free kicks and that 50 meter as you mentioned earlier uh that should have been a 50 that's a 50 meter penalty every day of the week and with two players coming up on to him that was at moments to go in the kerry inside bottom and they both knew too yeah you could tell her you could tell by their response and look i was going to have it as a haircut but i'll move it forward the afl came out and ticked off on it i don't think that was right to be doing that looks really not full credit to the afl they're coming out and they're they're talking and having conversations around the umpiring yeah see i disagree with you 24 i disagree with you because they come out and say oh we tick off on that yeah the umpire was under pressure at the time and blah blah blah they don't come out and have a conversation about it they come out and tell you what they think well they came out on their own media yeah this is what i'm saying that you you don't come out and say to robert robert made a comment through the week monday or tuesday or whatever else that this is the worst umpiring he's ever seen in his career which i think is an overreaction quite frankly i i don't think i do i think that that's a total overreaction it's it's over the top but it's not it's nowhere near the bottom it's it's the the the umpiring hasn't been great the amount of controversies that are happening like the best umpires the umpires that you don't notice umpires you end up in the game and umpires eventually were they out there that's the best umpires you have and at the moment we're having far too many controversies that the afl come out and tick most of them off but really they're still 50/50 i get what robert said on 360 with jared weightley that he said that don't treat the afl public light fools and it did come across a little bit that way but i can't have the article where he says that the afls in crisis with umpiring decisions i i just think that that's just for mine that was a bit of a sensationalistic rubbish article i don't know how many times over the last month have games been won or lost by decisions that most of us would think were wrong yeah but like that 50 meter for instance that i get back i get back to Sydney that a 54-point lead north melbourne why why did they cough that up i know i i you know what i mean like that's to get back i get back to this point that i'll always make in relation to these contentious decisions like if you put yourself in a position where it matters then that's on you it's not on the umpires because the umpires are going to make mistakes just like a football it does well yeah but that's a different conversation that's not the conversation we were having we were having a conversation about mistakes by umpires and the afl just coming out and telling us that they tick off on it because of this good reason they think it was okay and i just don't think that that's that's good what about the other what about the other 21s in that game i'm a calling on supporter and i know it's not okay but what about the other 20 decisions in that game that were either wrong or whatever else i don't talk about those they're only making excuses to try and take the pressure off and in fact what they're doing is they're piling the pressure on to the umpires i think they are to a certain point i think they're better off to say nothing to or to come out and say look they got it wrong and i don't think that that puts pressure on umpires to say they got it wrong it's it's fine i mean like but don't tell me that but don't don't try and tick it off when everybody knew all in sundry that it should have been because i'm even saying it so that's just making a mug of us yeah so i i'd rather shut her mouth then come out and give me platitudes that don't make any difference look i think she's doing a really good job well i'm not sure she is no i'm not i think she or she's not in you yeah let's give her a bit of time in the role but i like the fact that she's always coming out and at least talking about it but i just have you have you listened to any of her her interviews though she doesn't she comes out and she makes statements she doesn't talk to the whoever's interviewing or whatever else and if they say something she says i know this is what's happening down on that she tells people she doesn't talk with people and i don't like that yeah that can be perception i i don't sort of cut see her across like that but if you see it that way i know i know i know you're not alone in that perception either so i'm not i i don't the other bit is is these decisions like these have been going on for weeks and i i'm not seeing the clarity that should be coming from these if that's a 50 meter penalty last week and it should have been then i don't want to see that again for the year all right fair enough that was a mistake move on and let's get it right but we're seeing the same things happen over and over again so that tells me that either the umpire's advisor or the league is not sitting down afterwards and working out what should have happened here what should the decision be here and then making that clear down pause look this was this incident happened this is how it was unpoiled this is how we want it to be unpoiled and then we shouldn't see the same ones happen again and again yeah it was interesting unfortunately it's probably spoiled a really good game that we're talking about the one decision of an umpire well and you know there was there was 38 free kicks for the whole game and yet we're talking and and hanging out on that well we started in the fact that it was heavily weighted to Collingwood when north were in front for you know and i agree with that i mean statistically statistically it says to me that they weren't rewarded for for being first sort of ball on a lot of occasions what did come out of the game was the fact that everybody out there who be who doubts that the direction that north are going i'm not one of those i i think there's there's direction coming that the the team is starting to come together and those young players that they've got bringing through they're talent what do you think oh before we get off to north elven calling a game Tristan's arugis game in north elven the ruckman i thought he was outstandingly good and was one of the ones they didn't really talk about or sort of mention after the game no you're right i thought he was solid but i don't think he still lost the ruck tap outs all right so you know he was it was good around the ground i thought he was brilliant around the ground and look he only just lost that by five yeah i thought he contended against arse Cameron well Darcy Cameron's been off a bit and so he hasn't been good it was a better game from Darcy um but zeroe is stood up this year that's the good value for north mouth yeah i agree like like a great year yeah because the last couple of years he's been there and looked okay but kept getting injured so they got rid of gold steamed and now they put the pressure on him fair and square and he's standing up nicely we'll have a look at the last game of the round gws taking on port of course colling it are in third spot now i should have mentioned that because got the buy this week so they might drop back down the ladder a little bit depending on results across the course of the weekend gws are in fifth spot now with an eight and five record port out of laden seven with an eight and five record as well gws 9 1973 defeated port six fifteen fifty one this game was at engie stadium is that how you pronounce it oh to show grants and show grants whatever you want to call it it was the twilight game on sunday and the final game of round four and calamem brown two gold to the winners and mitch jordiades with three gold to the losers port port disappointing um they were in this game though they they were in at boots and all at half time and after half time they just went to sleep i was disappointed with with what they showed um there where a port out i'm i'm just as i'd mentioned a few weeks ago that um the the players they brought in i'm not sure that they they've really gained much out radical ears he says he says he says so he was the same a jellong so so as a backman still makes too many mistakes zerk thatcher doesn't bring much to the table and he's you know 52 super coach points that it's not a lot for a half back or center half back or whatever he happens to play i'm disappointed there um their midfielders started sputtering like butters was down um rosy was down each of those their midfield is really struggling and um they also soldo now he's been dropped this week soldo he played pretty well the first six or eight ten games he got a bit injured he's come back and he hasn't quite found it again yet so he's been dropped this week the suite to come in but there's the players i'm concerned that with them uh winds was down you know that midfield got a touch up whereas at half time they're right in the game and went to sleep their forward line's not functioning is the tangerine tsunami back at jw s went been missing for a little bit of this season but it's back now yeah i don't think it was really a great they didn't still have that same spark they had early in the year they won won comfortably yes they looked a bit more like they were at the start of the year with that run wave and uh orange jumpers they they seem to have gotten that back a little bit said yes but that that's because port weren't putting pressure on them that port allowed them to do that and i don't think that was instigated really by the giants i think that was just a poor performance from the giants uh from the port Adelaide boys i know traveling and whatever but they they do it every second week you can't afford to travel and waste a half of football and cost yourself four points and what it does now is it's port port in under the microscope again broke the lines jw s plus 72 in handball plus 56 in uncontested position they are more efficient with the football with ball in hand and their tackle pressure was back plus 11 yeah that's pretty good you know like the efficiency was 73 ports was 70 so you know there wasn't a lot of difference in that um hand balls around that two um giants was actually 204 to 184 hand balls so they were a bit blasey with that what one thing we talked about a couple of weeks ago i'd like to bring in there was we're talking about Tasmania and Buckley as their coach i disagreed and you said well who else i'd be Matthew Nick's yet i'm down it um and i said hinkley and it's been all over everything this week that yeah yeah neither has your chase and hinkley he'd be a fantastic first coach i didn't i didn't think that that was such a because he when you look at it hinkley's been at the club what since 2020 or years or something yeah and like i think there was a stat that hinkley well i was saying which is it was a mightily unfair i thought but he's been at the club 10 years and they haven't made a grand final so that's 3 Plymouth yeah but not a grand final so when you look at it that way it it doesn't read well for hinkley that a decade in the helm and not even to get into a grand final yeah they're hard to get into stat there they are and all not only that he took over a basket case like yeah and that's true yeah it took him three four years to get that um the team to even having a bit of a crack you know uh he's he's built this team i don't know and in those very pre-limbs i felt that the players letting down in the pre-limbs it wasn't anything that hinkley hinkley got them there he he led them to the well they just couldn't drink the water last year was again similar you know when out and straight sets last year and yet you know they had a run there in the middle of the year that was almost unequaled and they and they fell away again so i i he's got i think he's got one more year on his contract trying that out mind you was a bit unfair to hinkley to say that even though even though even though statistically that's correct it is but in our game you know in afl it's when premiership or you're all you know good it's true yep and it's not quite the reality order i've been brought up that way i know and we all think it at the same but and like we'll go on five ten years down the line and we'll say collingwood won the 2023 grand final who come second um um um uh oh was it gripping i'm not sure who it was but collingwood won it so that's how they are mentality years so he hasn't got a flag no but i reckon he'd be an awesome first coach for Tasmania we might go to our sponsors break and then we might have a look at some spuds are you ready to go to some spuds i am ready i have got a few lined up i'll be really interested in who you got lined up i've been digging them all week no worries we'll go to our sponsors break you group that came from affins not affins in grace but affins in georgia i speak in none other than r.m off that great album of course green like i said stand and sydney of course was a big fan of of course r.m he's got that album in his collection as at home as long as i was well of course big rock and roll fan he said but he's also a fan of the spud he loves a chip and he loves a potato chip and he loves mock fish which is also a spud recipe don't know if you ever had that as a kid i certainly did sydney so before you go any further i'm gonna play your stinger and you can spot away hit us up sydney who are you going to get this way there was a few around i really struggled to sort between them because there was plenty of down players been keys for um was pretty average um sharp from freo only got 14 super coach points in a hundred eleven minutes but he didn't get him riley bonifers and killed of 53 he's been way above that he's been solid but he was poor i'll ask him back in early 56 he was poor he got well beaten um Frampton from colling with 23 he'll be out in the twos if he's not careful i like him when he's on the go when he was playing it it um he played some killer earlier in the year in the back line and i thought he was outstanding on the night absolutely outstanding and then i'll watch him on the weekend and he was poor anyway they didn't get him radical here didn't get him bottle of nays didn't get him mcdonald from north could have got him but didn't one goes to shay bolton now it didn't it didn't have a terrible game it just wasn't influential he had 15 touches 69 super coach points but he's their star stats he's the guy that they want to climb on he wants to drag them on his back he wants to be the one that kicks those goals he wants to be the one that really gives them the spark that lifts and it's just missing out of him this season i'm not sure you know like he he's an absolute superstar takes a mark kicks goals from anywhere but he's just not bringing it to the table two goes to brayshaw from freo main mid-fielder probably the next captain old of sort and that freo mid-field it's a class mid-fielder you know with brayshaw and then searer and these sort of guys um but he's just not not bringing it to the table 73 and 103 minutes you know he's average is 103 and he gets 73 and they got well beaten it was a time for him to stand up and he didn't stand up that's why he got two and three goes to lucky ash for um freo this guy he's a flat track bully when freo on a roll he's up there and he's getting kicks left right and center and he does all the marvellous things but when the team comes under precious stats he goes to sleep and he doesn't bring enough he doesn't bring the guts and determination that you want off your wing half back flank and on the weekend he had a very poor day 25 and 108 minutes so if you're a team that's struggling that's the sort of guy that has to lift he has to pick him up on the like if you have a look at Collingwood let's go back to that game and have take side bottom for instance on the weekend you were down and out and he stood up he's playing that half back flank roll and he stood up and he carried you on his back perfect absolutely terrific what did ace do not enough three superco three spuds for him so on brayshaw he's averaged 27.1 disposal this year said yep 4.9 clearances 4.8 tackles what do you get on the weekend 99.1 fantasy points he's averaging for the year i've got him the end of 103 that's where it showed up on mine anyway all different but that's not enough stats for a talented absolute talent that's not bringing enough to the table okay how about we go from spuds to superstar well i think you picked him this week yeah i did pick him this week i did and i trail through them actually and look i don't usually do this but i think you know where i'm going to go with the free votes but i'll go one vote first and you know what i just thought i'm just going to give it to dusty and you know why it wasn't for anything he kicked the first goal of the game only dusty could get 92 000 to a home and away game to the mcg over his career the boy from castle mains won three premiership pre-norms with medals a brown low medal three premiership outside yeah outside of jack diaries probably the greatest the greatest richman player we're talking about jack titus is another one that's probably up there as one of their greats but i think roach and all of these for the guys but i think he stands up elevated like your roaches were great i love michael roach michael this guy roaches a full forward for richman but he's probably in that second tier more than the top top tier but um when you're talking of course jack diaries i mean we're talking real legends not that uh michael roaches in a legend but uh yeah but we're talking the real top tier and he's going to be remembered for a hundred years to come dusty whereas you talk michael roach a lot of our generation knowing and knowing well but the yellow generation the generation coming through probably doesn't and when you say michael roach i'll go who but the hundred years time they'll be saying custom martin yep i agree he's been outstanding and when you think go back what is it five years or more and he he almost went was it north melbourne offered him a big packet and he chose to stay at richman and richman coughed up the dollars sure that's fine but he got he returned every one of those dollars in in absolutely so one one is absolutely terrific i thought he was good on the day he gave richman the start to get him that you know over the line they really fired because he helped him get started and then the other players around him weren't up couldn't they rate the script any better could you with dust and martin kicking that first goal and and even full credit to the hawthorn supporters it stood up and applauded it there's with the whole ground just applauded it it was a it would have been a great moment to have been there actually i'd love to have been there absolutely loved it well i gave two votes to the bond on three goals 30 disposals eight marks seven clearances 15 score involvements in a big win over three man or with docklands when a lot said going in the word that three man or would have the dogs measure along comes the bond and just took it over didn't he just owned he could have he could have got three he was outstanding he was marvelous he probably would have if this man hadn't have kicked nine goals now as you know you've probably heard me with country football and stuff Sydney i'm not normally a big rat for bags of goals but sometimes i'll give votes that way the reason why i'm giving Joel a marty the three votes he kicked nine goals where we don't often see that type of goal kicking at afl level i mean to that level just under ten goals or double figures i mean if it wasn't for him getting drag he might or not drag but taken off the ground drags a terrible word to say not really drag it was given a spell he's given a spell yeah that's a better way to anyway only time we've seen these big high tallies is when sides have been playing west coast over the last couple of years i've met you don't seem very often but he did have his opportunity to kick nine goals one and he didn't kick a goal in the first quarter so there were opportunities for him to get ten but anyway that aside what i really liked about it was the efficiency now he took seven marks ten disposals for those nine goals and one behind so a hundred percent goal scoring efficiency but this is what i really like he was responsible for 40 percent of the forward 50 tackles of the swans on the evening he had six tackles and i think the swans off my memory and someone i think once you said in the background they had 15 for the game and he got six of those so 40 percent of the forward 50 tackles going to Joel Amarti so not only kicking goals but working hard when he didn't have the 40 to apply that forward 50 pressure tough it's tough to go over that for three well done i agree with all of those if i was a bon i'd probably feel a little unlucky but you're right nine goals in it and he turned the game let's face it he won the game for them they were in trouble a bit they're the swans and i want to give some notable mentions while we're on it jacks Sicily it was superb in the Richmond Hawthorne game in the twilight zone at the g 15 marks 33 disposals meters gained 881 just got on with the job to spite all that noise around dusty was happy to play the villain the Hawthorne played the villain a lot the way they sort of said where castes the villains and will play that role and he was really good on the afternoon it wasn't for the dusty occasion i probably would have snuck him into the top three there the other one dang zorko on friday night with 30 disposals nine marks and nine score involvements up at the gabba meters gained 755 against the saints as well it's those score involvements that were really good how many of those was that the score involvements for dang zorko were nine that's pretty good another he was taking them in and he was delivering nicely when he came in he was a rookie you know as a late pick up he wasn't a young player came in he was he was 22 or 24 when he came in and absolutely lit up did everything right over the last couple of years his temper and his bad manners of of got him in a quite a bit of trouble in his form suffer for it he had a few injuries along the way but this year he's picked up on that hasn't he he's really settled down yep this year he's been outstanding and i keep going to put him in i think oh he's too old he'll fall away he'll fall away well he hadn't fallen away so he is a worthy up there yeah they were a bit unlucky both sisly and zorko but that's the way i saw it for around four day what and i'll keep that for Jason so that he can add that to his notes to his tellies for the year so how about we go to the haircut said well it's going to be tough because we've already talked about one major mistake they might well i'll tell you what getting the barbers chair mate because that hairy yalls is a bit messy i'm going to give it a bit of a trim georgey faro good europea fan the man from dalloway because what a great man he was georgey faro good sindy has won a huge fan of of course georgey i think i might have heard him once georgey you've got to put that gramophone away and start listening to a bit airfam radio i think but anyway now i'm going to be controversial here right so this ladies and gentlemen out there listening this is the chance this is where we think somebody's made a major mistake well not well i do and i've got the solution okay but there's too much in equity in equity in the draw currently mmm it's too slighted i feel mmm i'm making a couple of suggestions to the AFL ahead of tas mania coming into the competition i hope it's a lot better than what that the gold coast sun's president put out yesterday we'll talk about that that's one of the topics but it's not mmm but what i'm suggesting is now if i don't know if you follow the nfl in america not a little bit well basically they play in their conference one at one another once and then it's straight into finals i'm suggesting right up until next season onwards until tas mania entered a competition that we cut it back to 17 rounds with 18 teams we all play one another once in the league we started in april and we get rid of the boys and we just played straight through from april to september yeah see i i disagree i love 24 rounds in a season but if you want that you can't complain when the drawers lopsided because it's always going to be with 24 rounds yes that's true in itself because then you have what seven games or seven weeks where you've you're playing the same team twice and not everybody else if it's stuck to the the criteria was a few years ago um if you're in the top eight then you played the top eight teams twice if you're in the middle you played the middle teams twice and if you're in the bottom six or eight then you played those and you as your second teams but it doesn't it hasn't worked that way for a few years like so what what it comes down to then is let's say just say it's ended up in in the top or whatever right they should they double up game should all be against the top eight not playing against west coast twice or whatever else which happens that's the mistake they're making not not the fact that we're playing more games but all your double up game should be at the same stage of ladder now the criteria also change a bit when you have teams jump this year from last year but that can't be helped that's how it is so if you're in the bottom six you should be playing north Melbourne twice west coast twice Hawthorne twice these clubs you should be playing your double up games and if that's the case then that's not unfair right but the fact is they don't do it that way anymore it goes all over the shop and there is well with my proposal and starting in April the two grand final sides would basically start on an even keel with everybody else yeah but see the I believe like what you're saying about NFL is is they play conferences I think we've got if we when we get to 20 teams I think we've got to break down into conferences so you have 10 in your to your conference I have 10 in my conference I play we play each one twice there's 20 games waiting games or whatever it is and then you're playing the other in and then you go to finals and the top four of each goes into the into the finals to me that makes far more sense than trying to run it run a 20 league comp so you don't like my idea I should I didn't I don't like a game I felt a haircut because they're playing 24 rounds at the moment because we're gone from like 22 to 23 24 and we've got an opening round there well I don't I disagree venomly with the opening round the way they did it this year I'm happy to have an opening round so I seem to see a piece last night on that where the the opening round should be the Northern clubs play the top Victorian teams on the Tuesday Friday Saturday night or whatever else and and then the Melbourne teams finished around so they're all playing on the one weekend but you're given the marquee games to the Northern States I'm not fundamentally a game st opening round in the current format of the AFL structure with the rounds but I just didn't see why they've done it now in hindsight with the fact that they rested Sydney and GWS when the rugby league was in a hiatus with their state of origin and then we cut Thursday nights and give rugby league a free hit for the rest of the season doesn't make any sense but again what I had a boy after rounds you know two three four and five type thing and then they had another another boy before the other teams have even had a boy like this weekend you've got teams that this is their first boy and these other ones have already had two that doesn't make any sense so you can't have that that's an extra bias that the league can easily change now Sydney straighten up that two pay because I have got a couple of more hair cuts go for it not just one haircut but I've got three to see right into it a caller rang up ABC radio last Sunday yes and he said what's going on AFL I'm a Richmond supporter I came for him I think he came now don't I can't remember he came from the nillyquin or somewhere around that area down to the MCG tries to buy a record for Dusty's 300 they've sold out what they didn't have enough they didn't have enough didn't have enough I mean they would have known well in advance around the numbers and apparently the records sold out one to two three hours before the game so anybody walking in there couldn't buy anyone getting in their late no hope and what do you do when it's a big marquee game a 3-0 game like a Dusty or whatever we know supporters keep them they keep grand final records you know they keep like you say their favorite player and and there would have been a lot of people doubling up on on them as well probably so the AFL should do better than that there should be always plenty of records at degree and for the supporters they shouldn't run out they shouldn't run out no and different if it's a walk-up game but this one was as a pre it was you know you had to have your seat already booked so they knew by Tuesday Wednesday that it was going to be a 90,000th crowd yeah they absolutely and they've been through this in the past say with when buddy had it kicked his his thousandth goal that was a big crowd they didn't run out that day so they they've got the experience to say right this is going to be a 90,000 crowd we're going to need not 50,000 we're going to need 110,000 120,000 I really think that's a mistake AFL yeah I think I think it is on such a marquee occasion and you and me both know and and traditional AFL supporters know they love the footy record a lot collect them and keep them yes and and they mark down the goals and all that kind of stuff and like just to to run out on a on a day like that I just thought knowing what your numbers were going to be like a roundabout they need to do better had to that's important that's a could you imagine running out of records on grand final day well that's like running out of beer or pies during a game or that sort of thing which I do often pies maybe they never run out of beer and the other one Sydney I don't know if you came across history in a week the third one so three haircuts so make sure that two pays on straight see for this third one Michael Porter who was a Hallform Premiership player in 1971 was declared that uh yeah uh by a course the Hall of Fame which is really ordinary I think because they do mention they do part of the Hall of Fame is that they mention the past players that have passed on which is a nice touch yes but to get that wrong is horrible on such a big night and it only sort of came to light because John Kennedy Jr who was a um he sort of played or you know grew up in that era sort of told the front bar about it the the following night now it was great that like don't get me wrong great night I sort of don't watch it but I sort of saw what happened after us and of course Jason Dunstle and Dunstle and Dunst won uh getting in uh the legends and that's fantastic for the Hall of Fame but gee that that was well that what they need to do better there yeah the AFL I hope that never happens again um like the AFL it's been commented on over the last month as well of the AFL has gone out and asked for opinions of this and that and this what do we do to fix this issue what do we do to fix that issue but they're not coming back with any um results of these questions so at this point the new chairman of the AFL it's not a great start the numbers are up for public yes those bits are up yes but the the actual players and clubs and and the key people around the league are not really happy with the way the AFL has been run such as I think you'll always get that data or certain point but on that on that they need to do a lot better okay there's a couple of minutes to do their due diligence there's a couple of things take um the two's competition they're talking about right the south Australian clubs want to join the VFL Western Australian clubs wanted to as well but they've now decided not to write up why because it's been going on that long they have to make decisions of the future and they've decided not we'll stay where we are okay another one is the around academies father-son rules these issues they all asked asked all these questions earlier and now they've decided maybe they haven't decided or told us what their decision is but at this stage it looks like it's going to be some changes and they're going to come in this year that is not good for well take Carlton for instance the two camper alley boys are coming through they thought they had plenty of picks or whatever points they needed and if this changes they may not have enough and it would be an absolute crime if in their mind if they didn't get both camper alley boys and to come on to their list father-son it should it should happen but if the AFL changes the rules and they're already they haven't brought it now here we are your father system yeah well I agree that has to change but not father-son they should leave that alone I think they should yes you should be out of play for your father's club yeah I agree they should leave that alone and yeah the interstate clubs haven't liked that and yeah and look if there's an anomaly where there's a particular club that benefits in that situation I just think so be it well what I don't like about the whole bit is why should Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Giants all of these have the academy and they have first pick at it the others can't get the pick at it not unless someone it's open up past pick 40 that's wrong if you've got an academy I want an academy everybody should have an academy Essendon should have an academy they've got a couple coming through there but when it comes to it you take the the guy that's playing for the sons the Sennave back what's his name the big tool fella taking all the marks um McEnee no anyway he was on Melbourne's list and the son's pinched him well you don't think Melbourne are dirty at that they've put three four years into this kid and all of a sudden he's playing for them St Kilda did it to west coast so they've got to tidy that up you've got your academy I've got mine leave mine alone and the final one Sydney and by the way did you enjoy the short back and sides of this week's haircut so it looks good on you I've got a little bit of hair there stats don't be pulling it off me and you brought it up look Gold Coast son CEO Mark Evans has made a bold submission to the AFL asking all Victorian clubs to play their first week of their home finals at away venues what do you think of that said Kelly me dream and you know per you know in that movie um look let's have a look at the reasons of this though what he's saying is we're hard done by he had never played finals how would he know what it's like to go and play finals the sons are a dud and who's propping them up the AFL's propping them up let's take another point these all of these clubs came in with the knowledge that they were on the Gold Coast and would have to travel every second week west coast came in with the knowledge they were on the west coast they would have to travel every so they all knew that before they came in why why squeal now if you don't like it then leave go back and play in west Australia if Gold Coast as such duds as you say and i'm not saying you're wrong why are you always screaming about the northern academies when it's not really working anyway well sides like the sons they're getting the players there but they're wasting them when they get there it is there's a problem with the club maybe it's just the fact that they're on the Gold Coast and and it's a disjointed community the Gold Coast have you ever lived there i lived there for a while no i haven't but no i take on ball what you said about that yeah people go to the Gold Coast to retire and relax and whatever else they don't get to go there to make friends they don't go there you go to the football there and nobody talks to anybody it's it's a that's a weird place and you back that up by the fact the titans the rugby league club they've never done any good i don't think it makes it a good the basketball team's done no good there it's a dud place i don't think it's inferior it just can't work anyway because you're going to have like collingwood and Carlton for a first week the finals you're going to send them up north it's never going to win up seriously telling me he's dreaming when you can have the mcj and 90 thousand they're all collingwood estan or estan Carlton or yeah i just can't see that no it'll never happen not in a million years and i i don't think it like i i grieve you i just think that's it's it's a totally selfish proposition even though i'm more for the development of the northern clubs that's not going to fly well i i don't mind being there that doesn't bother me at all i love going beaten um if we can but what i don't agree with is them winching about all these issues that were there before they even started the club and where's the ascending standing other than the double chance to finish top four because i believe that you know you get the home final that's one of the reasons why you want to finish so high exactly as well so yep yep so anyway Sydney will go to a sponsors break will come out the other side and we'll have a look at round 15 action as usual running behind stats do you have an acor pain that just won't go coach steven tate on o4 3 4 5 a 2 9 5 9 that's o4 3 4 5 a 2 9 5 9 the course that's the opening bars to the emf song from glosster unbelievable of course off that album tuber dip from 1991 of course don't go telling me i've got that you have got that well you might remember the afl campaign the 90s senate around that particular song i've heard don't tell me i've got it at home because i definitely don't well we're by fun believeable we've got to get off air shortly because we've got the natural indigenous radio service game tonight a course kalton taking on gelong live from the mcg when we get off air but we will have the callers the callers are to seeding we will go through those in fact your co-hosts will be megan waters and peter cardamony our very own and the calls will be peter cardamony uh chris johnson expert commentator andrew cracker and rod armit not putting anyone else down there but when carters is on doing that it just jumps up with the quality it is any other broadcaster they are right up there when he's on i think he's outstanding he's a very good caller is any i think they're all really good actually i really like them and uh what i do like is we don't get the and it's even creeping into the abc now the advertising we don't get that same arch with the national indigenous radio service is pure call yeah i mean have you heard it as he and call it's terrible it's like and that handball is brought to you by like he's shocking well i hate that but the callers are good don't get me wrong with that just ruins it yeah what mine does and triple aim is not far behind scn in that regard i think we're probably ahead in fact let's go to of course game two tomorrow we'll preview tonight's game last port or a dollar 90 against the lines a dollar 90 the line is two and a half and of course this game is at the Adelaide oval 145 tomorrow afternoon set it's michael break for port isn't it they if they don't beat Brisbane here then Brisbane can have their spot in in effect so port have got to find a bit here they've dropped a couple um they've dropped out eo i've been sold out narkle has been dropped wingers have been dropped frances evans and traverse brokers ill and they've brought in logan evans jordan sweet josh sin jeremy finlace and willy reola willy reola could get a goal or two he's been pretty good this season logan evans josh sin but jordan sweet he's been in the twos played ok when he was in so i'm looking forward to that and with Brisbane shadow brain and is in and no awareness worth is out the problem who's going to stop down at her like over the years we've given down to her a bit of a bag and at times and he's deserved it by the way but when he's on like it was last week he's fearsome he runs he's a terrific athlete he's a good mark and he's a solid kick a goal which he proved last week so who's going to go on him i just don't think that rattice leer can go with him he's not going to be quick enough a little here maybe but he's normally the heart center back and he's going to have an easy night he'll have hipwood who was he's normal last week uh that's that mid field though port have to lift in the mid field they got a bath last week in the mid field rosy butters and and that are going to have to compete and i just don't know whether they can i'm concerned i'm going to tip port because they're home and i'd rather see port get it together now and go on and play finals i don't mind port at all i think the talent is in the team but they're just not putting it together and that forward line is not functioning well to me it comes down the forward 50 efficiency this season port of average 52.6 but Brisbane have averaged 46.5 of all those gun forwards inside their forward 50 i'd like to see those figures over the last few weeks because Brisbane when they had their buy their latest buy they had a real focus on why are we not doing well and their focus was on their kicking a goal and converting and last week i thought they were really good at that the week before they were very good at that you know hipwood and that the week before were very good so Brisbane have tidied that part of their game up they've put a lot of focus on actually converting the chances they have and port are still wasting quite a few that they're getting i've gone for port the hometown of vanny that's the only reason i've got two dollars five during the week gamble responsibly of course they're in if it was in Brisbane i'd go Brisbane exactly you'd be going Brisbane i'd be taking the one the 39 because i'd be really short in Brisbane the beat port i got no doubt but it's at port Adelaide and i'm sort of tipping them at the Adelaide able to get them tomorrow afternoon the twilight game is an absolute boulder actually it's at engi stadium in Sydney it's the gw s up against Sydney of course the game gets underway at 4.35 p.m tomorrow afternoon Sydney are the favourites at $1.42 the away side gw s to home side $2.90 line 16 and a half Sydney how do you see it well a very interesting game actually you're right locky ashes back in grinsky plays his first game and james peeling back in but the missing part here is sam taylor out with a ruptured testicle and he could be they're not they don't know how long this could take some time to get back nasty isn't it that yeah it is it is i've seen a few over my time and it's very painful and it's got to be put back together so and they've dropped cadmon over at the cat uh the swans cadon clear is in matt roberts and he's new by the way cadon cleary matt roberts has been dropped he was a sub last week so that's nothing unusual well the question is is can the joints stop the run of Sydney have they got enough talent to battle around the packs as well as stopping that forward run that Sydney have and that's what's getting in these wins is the forward run the way they move that ball forward they're able to find a loose player come it come and they bring the ball to the midfield around the wing center forward area and then they go straight at goal that that's and who's going to go on a marty now that um the big fella's out tailor who's probably if not the best backman in the league at the moment so that's going to be an issue there go the other end and hogan is he's he's good i like hogan i think it's rippick mark back back lead to that marty fair he's their best backman left yeah sure he'll be his only young bloke so he'll probably get logan mcdonald up up on the center forward area who's going to go on hogan tomma carton yeah probably the solid dean backman um kobe green how have you seen his year i think well it hasn't been the output hasn't quite been there this year but i think he's one of those type of players that just because he's out there he's leadership now is exemplary like we all know the problems he's had in the past and i think he's just he was a hothead i think that's changed a lot toby green these days i think he's relished the captaincy and even just the presence of him out there they just seem to walk a little taller g w s look his output from this year to last year statistically hasn't been the same he's been playing a slightly more pressure role inside forward 50 but he hasn't had to sort of kick the goals remember i used to say it was chips in toby otherwise it was they were no good you're right but now they've got goal kickers around him as well so that frees him up to go into a more pressure type role so i might look my concern is with him is that over the last month five weeks they've been off the boil and so is he hasn't stepped up then that was his that's he's got when if you're the lead captain you're the lead player in a club when the things are tough that's when you step forward and last week he was okay and he's just he's okay he's not been terrible but he hasn't been that leader that last year he hasn't had the output statistically he did last year so for my mind you know he's having a bit of a downer season i'm going with the swans by the way uh they only traveling across town i don't think that's going to make any difference the ground is a little bigger than their home ground but not a lot i mean that's going to make any difference the warnings and guildens and these sort of players are going to move that ball up to the forward line and give and i don't think they're a great forward line Sydney but there's four or five of them they're doing the thing last week it was a marty of course but as a rule it's three four five people pappily and these guys get one or two and each gets two three or four goals and they get a decent score why are they doing that because the way the these midfields and half pack line are moving the ball through and giving them the opportunities yeah look i look Sydney have been fantastic through the first half and more of this season and deserve to be on top of the ladder i just got something in my bones about this that they do to drop one somewhere and i think this there was a lot to like about gw s getting their dna back a little bit last week and i just think this is a potential danger game for Sydney i think a little brother in gw s will be really stealing themselves and knock off Sydney on top of the ladder and they'll be looking at a lot of things and they're at home and i think they're going to apply a lot of pressure to Sydney look don't get me wrong Isaac he's been brilliant this year joe and marty i just worry about the consistency with joe and marty i said joe and marty but joe and marty beg your pardon logan mcdonald is a gun football chat warner's had a great year macartan and rampy down back and the pelican goes about it and no one really notices but he's one of the gun defenders of the league and then brody grumpy who's one of the reinvented players at a season up there at Sydney as well but i just think like there's something that says sticks out the meat it says Sydney adieu to drop one and it wouldn't surprise me if it's tomorrow afternoon i want to put someone on kelly kelly came back last week and was instrumental in the change that you're looking at it in that uh but you know that these this midfield with grumpy leading them and he's back to his column with best grumpy he's doing that rock work he's taking the marks he's doing that he's he's like a mobile he's a easy old fashioned rock rover he doesn't only take the tap but he gets to the ground and gets really rough and dirty and i think that's what's given these heenies and that first opportunity now don't give me wrong bridges it's not a bad footballer he's a good solid fella but he's nowhere near that i don't think the quality of what a grumpy is well on average is she you've got locky witfield and tom green averaging uh more disposals than anyone else on the ground so then you got aril gawding after that so the first two disposal winners on the ground on average he sees in a witfield and green who both played for gw said that doesn't automatically are quite to win to gw s but i just think they've got enough out there to actually really worry sydney and maybe produced their second loss of the season which i think for sydney would just be a correction in the market anyway i'm tipping sydney i'll go gw s in the upset we'll go now to the saturday night game and gee i think this is big for melbourne in a lot of ways they're up against north melbourne who showed well all the moral winners are going to colling with last week let's be frank about it and melbourne who are teetering uh who um they played colling would be for the boy so both sides have had colling would either side of the boy their last starts and melbourne in 11th spot north melbourne in 18th spot gee this is a big one for the both clubs look i'm surprised that melbourne are really short but they're a dollar 18 currently not melbourne a four dollars 80 in the line is 30 and a half gamble responsibly gee that's pretty good 30 and a half the way they're playing yep the way melbourne applying i think that's pretty fair uh look the internet's uh brown is new kind kind and brown for melbourne is in adam tomelson and colton philstrup he's in for again out as christian protractor with his nasty little injuries he's carrying jack billinger's been dumped because he's not doing enough barely laurie's the same over at the cat at the kangaroos is dylan stevens in jy simkin back in his their captain he's a good player out as jadyn stevenson because he done do enough and calon dawson was suspended uh look i'm really looking forward to this game but i think everybody's been given melbourne a proper kickin and they've probably deserved it no doubt about that they they deserve to get walloped but i don't think they're finished with they're too good at team melbourne they've got too many players across that ground that that are solid tomelson comes in he's played a few games this year and every time he's played he looks the goods you can't get in because leaver and may's been there leaver's still out injured for at least another week so he's he's doing what all you can ask for there that backline sale i'm going there and into the midfield who's going to be the field the midfield spot now the protractor's out that's the question we we we don't know who are they going to bring in there they've run a few through there like sale on has been running through their pickets been running through there but all of us down on his day he he's not been doing it who's going to step up could it be like a what about a mcv or the you know he's been solid down back but what about bringing him up and giving him a chance in the midfield and see if he can come up and they're a sparrow i don't think is the type they're putting him in there as too often he just doesn't do enough he doesn't give a side picket more midfield minutes i would i would absolutely when he's in the midfield they they get clearances and so he should be the type of player that plays midfield and as soon as it's cleared from the midfield he bolts forward that's how i'd be playing him so uh north i don't know i was pleased to the way they went last week but i'm sort of glad they they're this far into the season without doing any good for them to get another couple of wins and get a cough up the first round draft pick again wouldn't be very smart there's a couple of things here Melbourne have had the boy and north have had a heartbreaking loss young group yes i think the boy was really timely for Melbourne absolutely yeah despite despite the fact that we know that petraka is going to be out that's one soldier if you're a decent club you can cover one star and if we didn't bring it up i was in one the topics but i'll bring it up for you now to discuss did a Melbourne culpable in any way in letting petraka back on the ground no no i don't think so i'm on petraka itself command in the king's holiday i'm talking of course against calling the track of what said i'm i'm sore but i want to get there we're not doing well i want to go out there i i i tend to agree i i tend to like it was petraka's call initially yeah i i sort of worry about the diagnosis of the doctor though that maybe should have sort of eroded it but that said they probably didn't have a lot to go on well they don't have scans they don't have anything out the ground so with the doctors saying well where's it saw here it saw there how do you feel what's this he's asking all this question petraka's going yeah yeah i'll be right let me out there i'll be right i'll run it off i can many times over the years do you get a nasty quark and you can barely walk on it that's sore as or whatever if you keep moving you gradually work your way back through it and by the end of the game you're so it's fine you come up with a nasty bruise and all that this wasn't that scenario but he chose he demanded to go back on this could go one or two ways for north melbourne that they found a lot of form out of the collingwood game and they've got a lot of confidence or they've had the heart ripped out of them as a young group and they left it all at docklands the way before we seen this last year when they had that interchange kerfuffle and lost a game like that it didn't affect them next week they're a young team you bounce back quick when you're young when you're an older team such as a melbourne where they've they were ground into the dirt in central australia then they played the pies and got well beaten it can have lasting effect on a mature player now they've had a buy so that helps them that gets them back on they've had a chance to you know lick their wounds and and get told how they didn't do this and didn't do that now this week all about positiveness at melbourne this week but the coach would have been positive everybody would have been positive now we're going to do this we're going to go out and say oh what are we going to do now that buy helps them with that so i reckon that melbourne are going to win well we had a look at this at the star of the season on a saturday night and would have been uh you're in jason's fury why have we got this game on a saturday night but i think this is an intriguing clash all of a sudden all of a sudden that none of us all coming at the star of the year and yeah look i i think melbourne are overly short for this to be honest i do too yeah but don't rate me in the jason's theory of that i didn't mind the game that he was complained about the other week on a saturday night everybody is entitled to play some great game time slots yeah i agree but like we wouldn't have seen this coming at the star of the year looking at it and you would have looked 14 15 weeks ahead if four four or five weeks ago you would have tipped this as a disaster but if you went into the tardis where we are now and 15 weeks later this looks like a pretty solid game a solid game at the mcj with naught melbourne in a lot of form and of course melbourne looking for a bit of redemption and naught melbourne job not done but look look i went melbourne one the 39 in the end with absolutely no confidence whatsoever and the more i thought about it during the week i just think the boy he's going to really refresh melbourne well it can't do i think it will too despite not having betraco who i think is a huge loss by the way oh a big loss yes even in the same vein though he hasn't had the best of his seasons he was much better last year than the year before and he's been carrying the team now he's out they've just got to fill it in there you have plenty of players there come on coach find a new new player you've got to create somebody new you've got to lift somebody out of the doldrums and get them in their play in that position it's up to the coach to find him all right said the we have got acid and taking on west coast sunday one o'clock at doldrums acid and erodol of 13 west coast of six dollars the line 36 and a half only six dollars um estan got a couple back in redman back in derzmer and draper back in uh tatsas is out emitted set of field is emitted j gresham personal reason um over at eagles hunts in oscar alan back is the captain he's back in for his first game of the year i think he was injured so he's back for his second game of the year tala brockman back in and i i rate brockman he's been been injured a bit and not really had given the invest yet new first season up there out of stomp sheet injured harry edwards emitted jay cullie emitted andrew gaffer mitted uh look this game's over now i think estan should come out there at the dome and they should give the give west coast a proper kickin i think they will i think we're looking at it in another eighty hundred point loss here west coast they don't travel well and estan have had the boy they weren't playing quite well enough before the boy but i think estan will get this one yeah i went acid and won the 39 in this one gamble responsibly we'll have a look at the last game of the round which is a natural indigenous radii service going 330 on sunday the game gets underway at four o'clock free mantle taking on gold coast suns it off the stadium your callers glenn mitchell jakey blanzmere and in special comments who are ashmagra the yods we see of course free mantle are the favorites at a dollar 34 the gold coast suns are three dollars 30 line 18 a half a lot to come back here a couple of ins and outs there's not much point talking about they'll change in me for sunday the only main main ones is with the suns jared wits is back in and ben kings out they're the main ones so you know the rest will change drop and change uh freo a lot to improve on from last week they were disappointing and the questions have been asked about freo is this the team you're going to stick with or are you going to start by bringing in some fresh stuff and whatever the likes of five he still is consistently okay he's not at least anywhere near his brand low best he's consistently just okay what i'm concerned out there though are the the serongs and brayshaws and and the type of guys who are star players who are absolute terrific players love love to watch them but when they don't fire who else steps up and that's what what's wrong the their back line is solid their forward line is okay trace he's been a real elevation for freo terrific some of his stuff for the year and he sort of come up out of nowhere so good on him he's standing up mccandrew was the one i was talking about he was on melbourne's list and in their recademy four years and then sun's going snitchy doesn't seem right uh then we have a look at the suns well they were well down last time they played all the mid field got well and truly beaten you know miller was so it was um had a tagger on him he was not much good and over the last month the anderson's and rows have been down a little bit as well they've had a buy now they've got a had a refresh up and i'm sure the only thing that concerns me a bit is though all the amount of changes one two three four five out and five in i don't like that much in the team he's done it a few times this year on the suns but i i think that's too many to be changing every week if you're happy with what you've got if you're not happy with it fair enough then don't tell me you're going to play finals if you're not happy with what you've got and you're not doing it can they go to the freo win i doubt it i'd love to see it i'd like to see it i love rowlyn anderson i'd like to see him play but with our king up forward who's going to kick enough goals for him i just think it's queens land syndrome they're better at home than they are away and i just can't see them overcoming the dockers i just think the dockers in this one will have an advantage in the clearances center breaks and stoppages so they average four more clearances for the seas and they average the center breaks averaging the same but the stoppages are plus four to three o as well so i just see them holding sway in that midfield well they need to improve a lot on last week and they've had a kick in the pants through the week for more for more accounts i think one of the thirty nine's a nice play if you're playing gamble responsibly of course let's have a look now of course at tonight's game the big blockbuster kalton taking on jalong it's kalton in second spot taking on jalong in six it's the national indigenous radio service coverage when we get off air co-host megan warders peter cardamony is the co-host for the pregame and then we have the callers peter cardamony chris johnson and of course the expert commentators andrew cracker and rod arm it before you go any further Sydney and i'll give you the odds i want to thank johnny painter for making uh way for free manel and golco sons he shifts obviously makes way for that but thanking him for allowing us to put that going to air on sunday so let's have a look at the odds kalton at dollar sixty two jalong a two dollars thirty and the line is seven and a half set ins and outs of erosio fentasia comes in jack carol out i think got to go in the other way and frentasia just hasn't done enough in his career he has talent but he just doesn't do enough over at the cadre's act two of the old man's back in all of a henry back patrick the gun danger field comes in missed though how many weeks is he missed six eight weeks that makes it hard to come back and be an absolute star on your first night back against the contested mid field base at a kalton as well exactly right yep and there's a few more to come back in kalton's there they've had a few injuries and they they're due to come back in the next week or two uh shannon kneels out re-stand the injured and would have been dropped anyway tenor broon is injured uh look bleck bleck haves are going in the ruck they've moved in there because they don't have anybody else which has been a bugbear of the cats for years as they just haven't had a class ruckman and they've been making do and trying to make it up or elsewhere the problem is their mid field is not making it up at the moment the mid field is youngish it's it's just not doing enough bows it's not good enough mulan is not you know these sort of guys that have been running through there and not giving them enough and so without a decent ruckman to feed them they're struggling that's that's the bottom line of it Welsh Hewitt and Cripps they're a good mid field i think they mid field and the ruckman there with the coning is going to have all run in their way danger back in yeah but again as we said he's been out for so long then the likes of atkins and homes they're not big enough and strong enough to compete with the Cripps that's going to be the problem forward line uh kernow and makai she there tough and what's long going to do is try and send so they won't send steward i don't think they makai they'll send somebody else then they want steward run and loose and whatever well he's been tagged over the last month or so and it hasn't worked for him running him loose maybe they should change in putting to harry makai and see if he can shut makai out of the game that's all he needs to do is a backman he doesn't have to get 20 possessions 30 possessions and whatever he just has to shut his man down makai and kernow they're a wawsome fool some up front there with the other little fellas around him i love the way they play back down the Hawkins and Jeremy Cameron neither have had outstanding years the biggest reason i'm not picking Geelong is is that form over the last month six weeks has been awful one their first six or seven straight and now they've barely won one since so do you trust Carlton now not hundred percent but i trust him more than i do Geelong and no add add one more thing to that is Geelong's history of coming back after the boy is a disaster uh can they change that who do i don't think they can yeah i didn't think of that fact of it you're right they've got a horrendous record after the boy haven't they have not i don't i don't know where they've won any yeah i should have looked that up during the week but i just didn't think about it but it is a terrible record they do have so car Carlton you know they're i'm not overly sold on Carlton by the way but they're still a good solid team they're still going to make fun as they're still going to be a competitive when it comes the end of the season so you have to tip them over spluttering cats yeah i'm in Carlton's camp this evening as well at the mcg they play it really well it's a Carlton home game as well and just those screaming Carlton fans might be too much for the putty cats this evening so we're just gonna have to wait and see look they've got a gun so i'd steal and obviously like you said you made mention a Cameron and Hawkins but just that uh all the way with mccoy and kern I just a little bit younger in that uh forward 50 and really finding form at the moment whereas for Hawkins and Cameron it's a bit stop-start isn't it? yeah and as well you add to that the cats forward line you know their best two forward's are a single and Myers they're two big forwards and not their best the two smalls around them are it's hard when you're against a really good back line which with weetering leading it is to get up with those little forwards as your keys yeah it's going to be interesting to see who they put grime Myers to actually because he he generates a lot of score involvement for Jelong from half forward and the pressure racks and he's really good with that ground ball inside forward 50 I'd actually tag him if I was the cat's I'd put him in the midfield so give him give him the license to go running that's where he does that very well he's a terrific kick he's a different terrific link player what's wrong with using that from the half-back line instead of just the forward line your midfield struggling give him the role makes sense to me yeah makes sense to me I'd actually try and put Saad to him and try and exploit him the other way with Saad coming out a half-back well that's that's what you'd be trying to do if you're the Carlton coach and you know like you don't want him running free he's been aware say be half tag and him yes but if he goes to the midfield then you can't run you know Saad from through the midfield so you've got to then have a different player covering him and if he goes forward then then there's the change over that often confuses the back line so if I was a cat so I'd be putting him in the midfield and then trying to give him that bit of freedom well Sydney we're under nine minutes to the game at the MCG so we've gone way over the evening as our technician Adam Watkins just shakes his head in one of the studios there in fact studio
