Hi and welcome to Sport and Road, the weekly motorsport show with thanks central tire service. This is a part of the Super Saturday Sports Show that you can listen to and keep up to date with all things happening on the courses both locally and around the globe. This show is on a weekly basis on a Saturday throughout the year and is hosted by John Hainter at Craig Start. It's on 1 FM, Shepherd and Radio so let's have a listen to see what's happening in the world of motorsport this week. Good morning folks Saturday morning sport continues here at live and local 1 FM time for some four-wheeled and two-wheeled motorsport. It's cold morning. It is yes and you have had some cold ones this week. This is sport and road. It's Saturday morning. I thought I'd upset you. Ah, not a problem there. I'm John Hainter with me. Is Craig's not good morning listeners and good morning John, how are you? I feel you're not frozen? No, close here a couple of times during the week. I left my work the other day and it was one degree and this was half past nine at night. Yep, exactly. Oh my god, it was cold. Mine is three up there watching a little crested pigeon or one of the little top knots trying to get a drink of water the other morning just pecking away at a frozen fountain. It was absolutely, yeah, yeah, their cats were the same but they were inside so they had water that way. Yeah, definitely. But it was cold but it is winter. It is. I would have had the shortest day of the day. Yeah, that was yesterday. Can I get that? Days are getting longer from here. That's it. Nights are getting shorter. That means Bathurst is getting closer. That's it. Yes, we've got some info on that shortly too. Have we? We've got a little bit on the on the teams. Who's co-driving what and I think it's only a couple of seats vacant. That's correct. So if you're doing anything they might call you, Craig, yes. No, no, no, no. I did many a year up there in the early days where we knew a lot of the team mechanics and the truck drivers. They used to stay with us on the Sunday night beforehand before the teams had motel rooms for them. When they finished Saturday night, usually when they put the new race motor in and run everything up and balanced everything, then they stopped for a beer. They couldn't have much beer in the pits and gave us a ring. Craig helped to have a carton. I trundled down with a carton for them. That was no worries and that made it easy for me to go and whichever team won, because it wasn't just one team I looked after, whichever team won I was guaranteed. Absolutely no worries. Number one party 10 for the end of race, so it was quite good. Good stuff. Some memories. Some memories there. Talking about memories. I had a flat tire and had to change it. I had a memory. I knew how to do it. But then yesterday I saw a guy down flat tire. He laid everything out in the correct order, but wouldn't do it. So I just kept driving. Unfortunately, I was short of time, but if you know how to lay each tool exactly in the right order, I'm sorry, I've got to get the handbook out. Well, the handbook showed you it as well. That's exactly what to do. I was in my pep stuff and good clothes. I gave this guy was in his suit. He was in a decent shirt anyway, $1,000. I still put all his bag down and knelt on that. I was very careful. I didn't do it himself. Yeah, exactly. So it can be done. For sure. But otherwise, you could also ring, could you auto care? Yeah, they would look after it for you without any problems. They'll come out and change your time. They'll come out and fix it for you. Yeah, that's right. And then they'll take the other one back to the workshop and then repair that for you. It's ready for you in the morning. All you have to do is call pass later on. And there it was. Yeah, that is correct. So that's that's a fantastic idea. Oh, you're in that certainly have great sponsors, aren't they? Oh, they're good sponsors. Well, central tires, whatever you want to call them. I sold the people now. I'm a central tires and always will. It's like Spencer Street Station now being Southern Cross, you know, was still a straight station. Yeah, that's it. That is it. The old habits that I have, right? They do. I was talking to a couple of musicians and it's a GV still going. The GV hotel still, they've still got the band room there. I remember this and they're bringing them photos and I'm bringing out my photos. Yeah. Oh, things don't change sometimes. No, exactly right. Yeah, good stuff. But no, they're good. Yeah, really with this cold weather batteries, they're telling me batteries over and over every third car is a battery. Yes. It only takes one cell to slowly die and when it's cold weather, it's basically an internal short of the battery. Yeah, exactly. You don't see it. You can't smell like the fumes of the battery acid and anything. And it's the next morning when you went to start, it might just tick over and you think I'll give it a run, she'll be right. No, but it's internal of the battery. If battery should turn the car over, straight away. Yeah, it might have enough to keep you going next start or the start after that, but then it's going to catch you. You'll be out shopping center somewhere and it'll catch you. Yeah, no. Or next morning. That's it. So they're constantly doing batteries and they've got a full supply of automotive batteries. They have. Yeah. All sorts. Doesn't matter, we've got a BMW Rolls-Royce Kenworth or a Mini-Miner. That's right. Yeah. And they've got all those sorts of things and apart from doing the battery, they check your lights. Yeah, exactly right. And especially with the fog coming around, you've got your lights working. Yeah, I was watching a show the other night, called Car SOS, actually. It's a fun show. It wasn't Darwin. No, no, they actually were redoing a trive herald. Oh, yes. And of course it had a generator on it, but they wanted to update it so they bolted an alternator on it. Then they had to go around to every connection in the place and reverse them because it was positive. A negative earth instead of... Now it's negative, yeah, exactly. Yeah, because the generator with the alternator is some negative earth, yeah. That's correct. Yeah, positive earth. No, that away. Yeah, they had to go around and change the radio and they had to change all the light cloves. Yeah, it was interesting. Yeah. I did Terry Kerrigan from Kerrigan. It's a time of TR3A, which is very similar. Yes. Yep. Same motor. Yeah, got it all up and going. First motor I rebuilt and still going. Yes. Unfortunately, Terry's not, but the car is. How still it's got it. Yes. That's quite nice to know that, but they do all the lights. How many times have we been talking about lights and taillights? Yeah, tail lights. Yeah. Headlights. One eyes. Yeah, please. So they've been doing that, which is... They're just doing that. Yeah. You notice you've got a headlight gone. We're going to replace the globe. Do you want that? Yes. Right. The cost is this. Yep, do it. Yeah. And some people might know how to replace the globe. It's not hard to do. Again, your service book will tell you how to do it. Yep. And it makes life so much easier. Yeah, not only central tires, but most of the people that sell spare parts like that, they order... They'll fit them for you. They'll fit them for you. Yeah, person. Oh, my gosh, you're doing something like that. Two dollars, who cares? You know, and why per insert? It's done. That's a classic one too. Especially this time of the year. Oh, you're not wrong. Hey, I've got to guess what I've found. My friends up on the weekend, as you know, we had a little together, a little bit of a Darwin get together, a big Darwin get together, and this guy turned up with a Honda going. The four-cylinder, you were right by the photo. Yeah, four, yeah. It has a cigarette lighter. Yes. Doesn't have an asteroid. No. Because you can flick it out. There's no window. No, you were going to say there's no window. No, you were going to say the window. I've actually had people in cars do that when I've been riding, especially on the causeway. Someone will flick a fag out the window. It landed on my lap. And there's this glowing cigarette sitting on my lap with the wind going past it, and it's getting redder. So I just picked it up and we left hand right up. You saw the thing, it threw it back through. He's put dry the side windows in there. This is yours. Jesse pulled up an hurry. Yeah. But they've got an ashtray. Big radio on it. Yep. And all the controls. Automatic volume control. And also the suspension too. Yes. Everything opens and shuts by an ashtray. Yep. So I think I might have to petition 100 and put ashtrays on. Yeah, fun and games. Give it a try anyway. But I thought I'd better let you know you're winning to a certain degree. Yeah. It hadn't cigarette lighter. That's fun. Exactly right. Yeah. And talking to wheels, we've got a great sponsor with two wheels too. We do. Yeah, exactly right. They're fantastic. It's, well, it's a Sheppler motorcycle group. The Purcell Street site and the Banola Road site. That's correct. Purcell Street site was AJ's. That's the place to go for KTM and also the KTM Spiders and any of the associated side-by-sides and quads and all those sort of things. What about the spare parts? Oh yeah, absolutely fantastic. All the jackets with batteries. Yes, absolutely. Got one of those. That's what Mark had. He had a jacket on and had a little square battery in the pocket. Yep. Very happy with that. He was nice and three heat controls on the switch usually. I didn't see that. He took the jacket off. He said, "Now I had heaters on her home." Yep. And then he went to the cold department and cracked one and sort of didn't stop. Exactly right. So I had to do it. No, don't worry at all. Also, you want heated grips for your bike. They've got them. They do. They have some great kits out there. My tiger is, both of them actually have heated grips on them, but they were factory jobs. Yeah, we had heated grips that were not looking cows from the dairy farms. It's a bucket of warm water. Exactly. That's what we do. Exactly. So, oh, I've got also a good friend of ours, Darren Church. He's 50 today. Another dairy farmer. He's dairy farmers. So he's 50. So happy birthday, Darren. If they do listen to the program, good. No worries. They make this. Also, motorcycles to the Honda people. Yeah, absolutely. Have the road. Vanilla road was the healthful Honda side. And they still are the Honda side. But they've got also got those segues here, the side by side, quad bikes and all those are fantastic. Off road for farm equipment. More luxurious than the original quad bikes. Absolutely. Yeah. Next receipt for your passenger and things like that. So, Karen and I might get one and go over to the neighbors and have a beer and come back. Yeah, good move. Maybe in the summer, she might jump on. Yeah, it could be a good move. Yeah. But no fantastic sponsors, aren't they? They really are. And do they help. Yep, four strokes. Yep. All Honda equipment. All Honda stuff now is four strokes. No need to mix petrol or anything like that. With the snippers, brush, cut as chainsaws, a whole lot. They've got a whole lot in there. They do. Yeah. And if you want a Honda road bike, they'll get it for you. No problems at all. They are fantastic. They certainly are. Yeah. I saw some TV on the weekend. Did you really? Yeah. In between lifting weights. Yes. Yes. Green can weights. That's the one. Yeah. No, we were at home. We had 22 people at home. They started turning up Thursday night Friday. Yeah. And the last one left lunchtime Monday. Excellent. Yeah. And plenty of food. So, that's a secret. It's not cheating, but you've got to have some food. We had briskets. We had drumsticks. We had chicken wings marinated. We had sausage rolls. Devon wrapped up mashed potato in the middle. Yeah. And you remember the old cabana then cheese and cocktail onion with a toothpick. We had all those. And all the whole bit. Yep. Winter food, soups. Beautiful soups. So fantastic. But I'd like to thank everyone for coming on. We had a good time. We had a fantastic time at the races. Yep. But we thought we were there. We had the music up late. Oh. Sound up late. How are you going? Exactly. A little bit of a freight train. Yeah. But it was quite interesting to see the wild card for Red Bull up there. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Greg Lounds is co-driver. Exactly right. Yeah. Coming in at fifth. That was just unbelievable. Really was good, wasn't it? Yeah. Daring real well. Just absolutely amazing. So, the first race, the Saturday race. The race on 11, it was. Yes. And it was the Darwin Triple Crown. The bet, ah, Darwin Triple Crown, I call it, didn't I? Yes. First up. Car number 88. Surprise, surprise. Mr Brock Freeny. That was the one. A Chevy Camaro Zeta one. We won't go about all the time. No, second. Which is amazing. Yeah. Frosty. 48 laps here. Exactly. Yeah. Frosty. Yeah. Coming second to wild racing. It was amazing to him. I'm thinking he should be nearly ready to retire or such. But that's not too bad for a second. Will Brown in the second of the Red Bull since the first place, he's definitely came up in the world. Yes. The fourth, which is amazing. James Golden, I think he jumped up five places in the private championship. Yeah, exactly. And Newell on Racing, they're going. Premier, that's Mr. Zibberos. That is correct. I saw a bit of video of some of his, some people there. I think they were rugby league or whatever there was and they were standing beside the start line when he launched the dragster. He heads over heads and Newell on the ground with the doors. But he was winning. He won two. A couple of weekends ago. So while I were in Perth, he won. Yes. I saw that one. That was great. And then fifth position, would you believe it was Chas Mosset? Yeah. So that's the first of the forwards. Yeah. Yeah. Hmm. Tradey beer racing, David Reynolds. Yeah. It's tradey. Yeah. Tradey everything. Everything's tradey. Yeah. Everything's tradey. Yeah. Everything's tradey. Yeah. Even my, the jocks. Yeah. Yeah. Jocks. Nick has, they've got everything, bras, you name it, ever. And alcohol. Yes. Yeah. So I don't mind that part anyway. Yeah. And then seventh position, Nick Perkett, Ben Dix Racing. Yeah. 8th position was Andre home. I'm Gartner and the R&J batteries. Yeah. 9th was Anton Dipis Guali on Shell V-PAL. And they're doing good things. Yeah. No worries at all. And then in 10th place, you'll hit camera waters in the Castro Racing Monster Mustang. Monster Mustang. Yeah. What about Ross 12, eh? Yep. That was the next day. But what about the crash? Yeah. Oh. It looked like James Courtney ran up the back of Haim Gartner. Yeah. That ran on top of the AAA car. Yeah. And luckily, he was okay. Yeah. But bitch went everywhere. And paths were coming off the car. Anyway, race 12. The Darwin better triple crayon. Yep. Headlining band with tones and eye up there. Apparently they kicked off quite well. Yep. Exactly. Anyway, number one position was car 88 Brock Feeney. Yep. He came up from third. No, he won the first one. Yeah, he certainly did. So 87 was the second wheel round. So he's come up a place. He's come up a place. Third. Are you sitting down? Yes. Car number one. Yes. Who drove car number one? Oh, some block named Kostekki. Yeah, Brody Kostekki from Erebus Motorsports. I mean, third. He's coming back up on that list quickly. Yes, certainly is. Then fourth was James Golding again. So he's gone from fifth, a fourth to fourth. So he isn't just sitting down. Yes, exactly. Ben Dix Racing's Nick Percat. Yeah. It was in fifth place. And also, you had Jack Lebrock on sixth from Erebus. Another Erebus, yeah. They really have. They're starting to have a good year after all that. Yeah. Well, you know, Barry Ryan wasn't there. Yes. I don't know why. Funny about that. Then seventh, you had Shelby Powell. You had Will Davidson. Yeah, that's the first, once again. Seven plays to first of the forwards, yeah. And then eighth place. Hands-on. He's eighth. The CC mate, Shelby Powell. Yeah, well, she's good there. The top rating of Ford. Yeah. So I don't know what's happening to Tickford. They must be out. Yeah, they've gone right backwards on this one. Ninth place. Dabbel Racing. Cameron Hill. Cameron Hill. Yes. And then tenth place. Richie Stanaway on another Mustang. And the pen right racing Mustang, that's for sure. Yeah. Dabbel Racing. Dabbel. Dabbel. Interesting, yeah. Well, let's have a real quick sponsor break. And after the break. Well, let's talk about Ludo, I think. Come back and talk about Ludo, because he's got a little bit to say about the new targets for Premier. It's interesting. Back in a moment, folks. Try an axle and make sure it's covered. That's right. So you might put a meter or half a meter of tan bark in, but when you get home, you only got two pieces. Yeah, exactly. It's two bits left because they've all drifted out the back. But if you've got one of those red and blue lights behind you, they will have the wall. No, no, no. That is correct. But anyway, fantastic. Let's keep going. Let's go, yeah. Ludo La Crosse has laid out his new plans and targets for new on-premier racing after James Golding delivered their first ever pole position at better at Darwin at Triple Crown. And boy, gee, that was a good lap. Wasn't it? Oh, absolutely. Ripper of a lap. You're not wrong. This is by James Heraro from Speed Cafe. Thank you, James. Daniel Heraro. Yeah, that's what I said. James Golding scored his first premiere racing pole position at the 2024 Darwin Triple Crown. Golding finished fourth in both Revco Supercar Championship races at Hidden Valley, equalling his and the team's best ever finishes. But the obvious highlight was pole position for Saturday's race 11 of the season. While that was sealed in a top 10 shootout, it was hardly a fluke with the number 31 Chevrolet Camaro, also fastest in Friday afternoon's qualifying sessions. In the 23 Camaro, Tim Slade scored finishes of 12th and 13th, although he did feature in both shootouts. La Crosse, Slade's race engineer and premiere's competition director, is satisfied with their qualifying pace and is now looking for improvement in pit lane in particular. It was a strong showing for both cars, he said. There were some difficulties in the pit stop, which cost a little bit for Tim for position, which made he had to fight a bit too hard. I think on the lap one pace, we have definitely made some progress and we can keep that up in the bank and hopefully show it again. We need to make some progress in the pit stops, also in some areas of race craft. Jimmy showed some great pace on Sunday, even though in the pace, he was a long down on two tyres put on, but most of the other people did four. You saw that on Saturday where they put four on Tickford and away they went. But that was it. Exactly, it slowed right down. Anyway, so he did a great job. I think it was a highlight of the day to have the P4 with less tyres. Tim unfortunately got caught up in a couple of battles and together with the slow pit stop, it pushed us to the end, it pushed us to end up P13, but we should have been in the top 10. Yeah, Golden jumps from fifth to the driver's championship in Darwin, while Premier is in the team standings. It has been a pretty good weekend for us as Golden. Yeah, it was an awesome job in qualifying to get the pole position, which was unreal and then had a good race on Sunday, turning the car around in race trim and was really fast. So come away with two P4s, a whole lot of points when we moved up in boats and teams and driver's championship were good points for both of us. We also gained a lot overall with set up changes and got a fair direction on the car, which we can use heading towards Townsville. Slayed by comparison was down beat, saying on Sunday qualifying was good for us in the morning, but we went backwards a little in the shootout and then lacked a little bit in the race where you definitely want to be moving forward in a race and not backwards. We should have been in the first gear then. Yeah, exactly, it's been a bit common theme, so we've had a bit of homework to do back in the workshop, he said. Since Hidden Valley Premier has confirmed Cameron McLeod as Slayed's co-driver for the Sanddown 500 and the Bathurst of 1000, after signing David Russell to partner James Golding. Matt Stone Racing, well they've locked their line up for the Sanddown 500 and the Bathurst thousand with a confirmation of Cameron Crick as Cameron Hill's co-driver, another one from Daniel LaRero, it's been Cafe. Cameron Hill and Daniel Crick will share the number four Camaro on the 2024 Sanddown 500 and Bathurst 1000. Crick has been linked to a Yata-based team and was originally thought to be in the frame for a wild car entry in the gurus. Instead, MSR will focus on the two existing entrances with the Hill Crick car in number four and Delano Keith named in recent days as Nick Perkats' co-driver in the number 10 Camaro. It's fantastic to have the Enduro season locked away and I think we'll have a solid drive line up for both Sanddown and Bathurst this year said team owner, Matt Stone. Cam Crick has fitted into the team really well this year and will be good pairing in car four alongside Cam Hill. Looking forward to having a red hot crack in the Euro races this season. For Crick, who has already tested with Matt Stone racing at Queensland Raceway, the gig represents, he's not a musician. The drive represents his debut in the Supercar Championship and hence also the Repco 1000. For me, it's a dream come true moment and it has taken a lot of hard work over the last few years to get there said the 26-year-old. See, I remember the Crick name going way back to truck racing. It caught in all those years and called it. Yeah, exactly right. Yeah, I think it might have been his dad too, the truck's way back then. But yeah, I watched the Super Turis. Yeah, he was in one of those. He was quick, actually, did really well. I noticed something a little bit off-bait at the moment. Some story about it called a park. Why is it still left like that and that's car. Yeah, and not in use. I remember looking to that. I think it goes back to Bob Jane and the park and his ex or his mrs or anything like that and all that. Yeah, exactly right. But others, Cam and Hill said, obviously to do it with, well, Cam and Crick, obviously to do it with close mate, Cam and Hill is something special. But also built on the relationship with Matt Stone Racing as well is huge. Team has been super welcoming and accommodating this year and it just feels like the place to be at the moment. I'd like to thank my core partnership group who have been part of this journey and also see them on the car at Sandout and Bathurst. It is also very exciting. We've got more testing coming in the next couple of weeks. We haven't blown up. I think I bumped the lead on the microphone. I've moved my hand. Testing in the next few weeks, it'll be great to get more seat time and pay for the Enduro campaign. The ties between Hill and Crick go back nearly a decade to their days in the Toyota 86 series and the former CHE Racing team also having a run late in the Bathurst six hours for the past two years. Was that a Toyota 86 or a Subaru B-ha-Z? Crick has been a regular the Dunlop Super 2 series since 2022 with Eglton Motorsport and is a race winner in the V8 Super Utes series already this year. Exactly. Now Premier Racing has confirmed that Cameron McLeod will co-drive with Tim Slade and this year's Sandout and Bathurst. The 19-year-old has been long been in the frame for the drive. In one of the new long camaros for this year's Enduro was Speed Cafe linking him to the Arundel Squad last December. And as predicted, he went on to step up into the Dunlop Super 2 series and a Premier Presed ZB Commodore and is currently 15 the standings after the first two rounds of the season. Okay, how about Bathurst 1000 entry list? Yeah, exactly right. It's just a handful of seats remain. Yeah, unconfirmed. Ahead of this year's Sandout 500 and Bathurst 1000 following Matt Stone's latest announcement. The 2023 Bathurst 1000 while co-drive is for almost a quarter of the field are yet to be formally announced. The picture is now clear ahead of the 2024 Supercars Enduros. Triple 8 engineering moved quickly up to sign Scott Pie when it became obvious that Shane Van Gisbergen would be unable to return to Australia for Sandout and Bathurst. And then it then announced during the pre-season launch, not unexpectedly, the Pie will be put with Will Brown while the 23 Sandout 500 winning duo Brock Feeney and Jamie Winkle remains intact. The super cheap auto-backed wild car this year sees Craig Lowndes joined by Cooper Murray, a latter of whom made the Supercar Championship debut. In recent days of the better electrical and he did well getting to the fifth, didn't he? Absolutely. That welcome Shuri Andretti united. The only change is that Ryan Wood is now the primary driver in car 2 with Fabian Cooltard again to get behind the wheel of the mobile one truck assist entry in the Duros. The mobile one up the Mustang of Chas Mustard will have Lee Holdsworth pairing, continues for the third year. Those two having won Bathurst in 2021. Dick Johnson Racing has elected not to run a wild car this time but one of the steers that is in third Mustang Kai Allen has been promoted to co-driving Will Davidson's number 17 Mustang with Anton D Pascuali and Tony Dalberto remaining in car 11. Grove Racing continues to enjoy the service of five time Bathurst winner Garth Tanda as co-driver but this time he has been switched to the Premier Mustang as Matt Payne Richie Stanway who won the 2023 Bathurst as Shane Van Gisburgen's co-driver is now the primary driver of car 26 and with Kevin Estier unavolved due to Sandtown late date change Dale Wood has been called up to partner the New Zealander. Dickford Racing may have scaled back from forecast to two but the Enduro lineup looks fairly familiar familiar. The Campbell Field-based outfit is yet to confirm its co-drivers but Cam Waters and James Moffatt Thomas Randall and Tyler Irving Hame are all but certain considering they have tested the number six and fifty five Mustangs in pre-season. I've got a feeling that James Moffatt is co-driving Blanchard Racing. It's very possible. MSR's full Enduro lineup will become official with the announcement of Cameron Crickle joined Cameron Hill. We know that and Percatt and Dale and O'Keefe was confirmed. Team 18 mostly unchanged relative to 2023. The only difference is that David Reynolds replaced Pi as the primary driver in car 20 last off season. I'm going to go backwards here. This is the list of the super cars. You've got Craig Allen and Cooper Murray, Triple 8 race engineering in the Camaro. And then you go backwards 88. You've got Brock Feeney and Jamie Wingcup and also 87. You've got Will Brown and Scott Pi. All that's Triple 8 race engineering. Yeah that's right. Then you've got James Golding and David Russell Premier Racing and you've got Tim Slade and Cameron McLean at Premier Racing. Richie Stanway and Dale Wood at Grove Racing the same as Matt Payne and Garth Tanda. David Reynolds and Warren Lough and Team 18 and Mark Winterbottom and Michael Caruso, Team 18. Will Davidson and Ty Allen and DJR and Tony Dapasko and Tony Doberto and DJR. Now car 96 McCauley Jones and has the Jordan Boys. That's Brad Jones Racing. Bryce Ford and Jaden Robert and Brad Jones Racing. Now you've got Jackson Evans and the other one's to be advised. Brad Jones Racing, that's SCT. You've got home gardener and Declan Fraser. Brad Jones Racing. Thomas Rand or Ticford Racing with Tyler Evrington. Cam Waters has James Moffatt at Ticford Racing. So there you go. Exactly right. I was thinking of Jack Perkins. Nick Percate, Dillian O'Keefe, Matt Stone Racing, Cameron Hill and Cameron Click, Matt Stone Racing. James Courtney, it should be finished racing and Jack Percans, Blanchard Racing team.
