Alabama Freshwater Fishing Report

Alabama Freshwater Fishing Report for Sept 2-8, 2023

Broadcast on:
06 Sep 2024

The Alabama Freshwater Fishing Report is your best resource for the Lake Guntersville Fishing Report, Weiss Lake Fishing Report, Lake Eufaula Fishing Report, Mobile Tensaw Delta Fishing Report, and all the creeks, rivers, and reservoirs in between.

This week, Nick welcomes Taylor Hara from the Wiregrass region of southeast Alabama. Taylor discusses the impact of drought on water levels, noting that sandy rivers like the Sepulga and Choctawhatchee are difficult to navigate, while rockier streams still have enough flow for fishing. He has been focusing on bream fishing in narrow channels and outside bends, using poppers and beetle spins with success. Bass fishing has been slow due to heat, but is improving as the water cools, with topwater and spinnerbaits starting to produce bites.

Taylor He recommends micro spinners for bass, especially in darker waters, and talks about his recent encounter with a sturgeon in the Choctawhatchee River. The episode wraps up with a shout-out to the efforts of the Choctawhatchee Riverkeepers for protecting local water quality.

In the second segment, Nick is joined by Will Strickland, Executive Director of Mobile Baykeeper. Will discusses Mobile Baykeeper’s ongoing efforts to address issues like dredge material dumping, which harms vital habitats for fish and oysters. He also highlights a partnership with Backcountry Hunters & Anglers for a cleanup project targeting the Ghost Fleet area in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, where illegal dumping has been a problem.

Will shares his personal connection to Alabama's waters, recounting memories of fishing and hunting with his grandfathers and their deep respect for conservation. He emphasizes the importance of community involvement in environmental protection, noting that each generation has a responsibility to preserve natural resources. Will encourages listeners to stay informed about water quality, fish consumption advisories, and to advocate for stricter regulations on toxins entering Alabama's waterways.
