Join me on this episode per usual, my humble co-host, student of the game, young Terence Minnefield. I'd be him. Terry, how we doing? Man, I am doing phenomenal today. It was a nice relaxing day, much needed relaxing day after the week that the Minnefield household has been having. I know we left on some good notes last week, but we've had some little rough times this week. We found out my dog is in a little trouble. She's in the weeds right now, she's not doing well, she's 10 years old, so she's getting up there in the age and just infections inside and now is just never good. Everybody's been bummed out in the cast of the Minnefield, so today was a much needed relaxing day. It took the kids to sports world, didn't win the gaddies. Just get the mind off of what's to come tomorrow when we have to bring Kaya to go to the vet and get surgery and all that stuff, hopefully everything pulls out good. The dog was very, you know, enthused about doing it and very high spirited of this being very minor, so you know. A nice optimistic. Yeah, it's very optimistic, so hopefully, you know, when we drop our off, things will go well. Definitely hope things go well, obviously we are a pro-dog podcast, pro-animal podcast really in general. Had that dog longer than I had my kids. Yeah, man, those dogs ended up being family members, no exaggeration. They end up being, you know, a really good part, a really important part of the whole family dynamic. Yeah, no matter what, man, I can always go home and she's always perked up to see me and it never fails. Well, let's hope that the doctor is spot on, these are what they're paid to do, paid a lot of money. Yeah, we did a move for him, so he's hooking it up a little bit, so that's what I like to hear. Well, what do you think about the quick right turn here? Scared. What do you think about the volleyball performance that we had in our new league? Obviously, we stepped up a couple of divisions in terms of competition and talent. Yeah, we do. Mighty talent. Mighty, mighty big jump. What were you and the captain's thoughts on how our first week went? Definitely, no shots towards the last team, obviously, but we are heading shoulders above that last team and that's all we could ask for, especially off of one game. There's a lot of things that we could work on, obviously, but, you know, like I said, it's just one game, so improvements every week is what's asked upon us and, you know, nothing but was positivity on the ride home. She was very ecstatic about this week. I bruised up my elbow a little bit on one of the blocks, but all in all, it was nothing but positivity. She was very happy. She was kind of intimidated by the other teams, you know, how good they are and how everybody is on par with each other, the camaraderie with each other on the other side of the net is impeccable, but, you know, with time, we're going to get there and, you know, relaxing and watching these guys on the other side of the net, you know, how they perform and we can watch that. I think that's going to be a go a long way for us, but all in all, it was a good performance. I loved it. Just some minor things that each week. I love the competition, though. That's really all it is. You know, just improving some minor things, some fundamental things. Funky, we played, we played to get some, some guy that should have been the Olympics. That guy was too damn good to be out there. He was spiking not only his serve, it was going a hundred miles per hour, but when he got that perfect set, he was going down the line, down our throats, just killing every, every time he touched the ball, it was, it was, it was sight to see, it was pretty amazing. It was definitely something, you know, in the back row, that's, that's the thing that I took away from my performance is whenever I am on the back row, I have to be more consistent with those hard, you know, hits that come in, you've got to be ready to bump, got to be ready to do a dig if the time comes. So that's what it's called. Yeah. You kind of just got to be prepared, you know, for all types of scenarios that are going to come because that's the thing about volleyball. It's 100% reaction, 100% athleticism, 100%, moving side to side. If you're not coordinated, you're not going to be good at volleyball. It's just kind of the nature of the sport and even coordinated people, can you get out there and it takes them a while before they get, you know, an actual volleyball shape whenever you're, you know, you're expecting certain things to happen, nothing really catches you off guard and then you know how to react. You know what to do whenever those situations come because of the experience that you've been getting. There's a lot of sources out there, whether it's YouTube videos or just vlogs or forums, things like that where you can learn a lot about volleyball. It's definitely a fun sport. The most definitely and one of the big things that I am most, you know, happy about is I'm not going to lie. I mean, obviously I know how you and you and shout out to cable KDR play in. I know we've been on the same team, but I'm so excited that we have got a solid girl team on our school. Yeah. Every every one of them brings something unique on the table. Two week her serves are damn near unreturnable is it is awesome and to for that to be the first game for in a while for them, dude, I am beside myself with the girls' performances. Has it my, has it my and you want to see, you know, the team get better towards the end and that's kind of what was happening, you know, we were scrimmaging at first kind of getting the knocking the cobwebs off knocking all the rust off and then we start getting into actual, you know, exhibition play. Yeah, with that first team, that first team, we've got them, yeah, battle out with them. I mean, obviously, on our best day, we should be able to beat them. Yes. For sure. We'll definitely split. Yeah. The second team, the second team, you definitely, they're, they're obviously way better, but, you know, we put our best forward, foot forward, I'll get to them. It's just so hard to get yourself out of those holes whenever you allow six, seven, eight straight points to get a good team. No, it's not only does it get you completely discombobulated, but it also allows the other team to get in an insane groove and then once they get going, they have that momentum on their side and good luck trying to stop that. But anyway, that's enough volleyball talk for one episode. Volley talk. We have a couple, a couple of games coming up here on Tuesday. Oh, yeah. And we will be in touch and let you guys know exactly how those went. But for today's episode, again, taking a little bit of a step back in terms of our normal schedule. What we have going on. We are not going to be talking about team of destiny, not going to be talking about NFL immortals. Oh, man. And you know, kind of like last week, we did the, you know, state of agency and I will say Eddie Jackson did get signed. Ooh. He sure did to the Baltimore Ravens. Great addition. We had Kyle Hamilton, you get somebody like Eddie Jackson. We've already talked about our beef that we have on the show, but hey, wishing well. Good luck over there in the ASC, but good luck, mate. That episode we talked about the best available for agents and like we predicted names are going to start coming off of the board and I expect that to continue to happen. But Terry and I are going to have a little bit of fun here. Yes, we are. It is July 21st. Yes, sir. Yesterday was July 20th. Shout out to my mom. It was her birthday. Shout out. But you know, I'm just feeling like doing a draft. You know, I can only step away from the draft season for too long before we can get back into it. You know, fantasy football season is coming up, Madden season is coming up, Office 7 playing the absolute piss out of college football 25 having got it. I started a quarterback, right-handed quarterback, six foot four, two, fifteen. For Oklahoma? No. Oh. There's a lot of schools, but it's not guaranteed that they're going to give you the starting position. Ah, okay. So I went somewhere where they were going to let me start as a freshman. Smart. Smart. TCU. Oh, the Horn Frogs. Yes. And I currently have, I have the Horn Frogs up to number six in the rankings. I think we're at 9 and 0. So we're climbing up. Okay. Definitely going to get in that college football playoff. I tell you that. Back in the code. But yeah, my quarterback, man, you want to guess his name? I was going to ask you. Let me see. Let me see something. Okay. Uh, something Vic, um, I'm going to go Marshall Vic. Oh my gosh. How did you guess? Did I send the picture to you or something? Eldo. I didn't send a picture to you. Oh, man. That was insane. Okay. Let's go. His name is Marshall Vic. Yeah. He's been phenom for the TCU. Fuck it. Or frogs. We looking out for him in the upcoming, not the upcoming draft, because like I said, he's a freshman, but, and hey, man, I can't believe I got that. That's fucking funny. With the uniform designs, with the success I'm already having, you know, we're kicking team's ass. Let's go. It's going to be tough for me to leave after three years. I think I might stay all four here at TCU. Is it the same where you could transfer over to, to Madden? Yeah. You can import your road to glory to Madden. I love that form. So hell yeah. I am very much so looking forward to doing that, seeing where he ends up going. But any who, yeah, that's kind of what I've been up to here this weekend. And it's just got me in the zone, you know, it's got me in the mood for a draft, but not just any kind of draft. Hmm. What you got playing? I kind of want to go back in time. Time to shoot. But I don't want to just completely forget about, you know, right now, right now. And I also don't want to leave any other decades, you know, hanging out to dry. I want to make sure that we involve every decade. So you know, you and I are going to do here explain to them. We're going to go back and forth. We're going to each build an offense. We're going to build, um, let's see, quarterback, yes, sir, running back, okay. Two wide receivers, what a tied in and an offensive line. So that's the six selections because we're making the offensive line pick a team offensive line. So we're taking it just a specific team, a line and kind of going from there. But the thing here, the kicker is once you pick a player from that decade, you can no longer take any players from that decade. Correct. The fact that there's six positions that we're trying to fill here, we're going to go back six decades. We're going to start the twenties, right? The ones that were in the 2020s and we're going to go to 2010s, 2000s, the 90s, the 80s and the 70s. And once you use that decade, it is. Yes. The decade is off limits. That position is off limits. So you got to kind of, I guess, strategize. You got to pick your draft and do it in a very, you know, calculated way, but there's so many great players out there. Both Terry and I are going to have completely stacked team. So it's all about preference right now and, you know, draft style. You guys let us know who you think ends up having the best draft here. We really didn't decide who's going first. So I'll go ahead and give you the first pick just as a, you know, generous away team type of fill here. Awesome. I am glad to go first. Funkeys. I do have my list all set up and I'm going to start here. What decade? In the 80s. Okay. Then you're not going to screw me. No, I'm not. Hopefully not. And I'm going with the running back position and I'm going to sweetness Walter Payton off the board of my first selection. It's just an easy pick with the running with the style that I think my offense is going to, you know, I think we're going to be a running gun first. We're going to run the ball down your throat and what my plan is going to, you know, how I want it to plan out starts here with Walter Payton. Great pick. I will say I am leaving my running back for the last pick because I could use it first. That really makes the decision easy to do that. But I had already planned on it. That's kind of the nature of this. You know, once Terry drafts a certain position, I know that he's not going to any other time. I mean, what receiver you get to, but you guys get what I'm saying. If sometimes it works out to where you can do what I'm going to do, which is save running back for the very end. And I'm going to get a position that I feel like there is one that's kind of head and shoulders over everyone else. Okay. I'm going to start in the 1990s. All right. And I'm going to get the Dallas Cowboys offensive line, the Great Wall of Dallas. Okay. They kind of start things off here. I know there are other great offensive lines. There's going to be great offensive lines throughout the decades. But this, I wanted this one, man. So the fact that I got the Cowboys offensive line to start it, I just feel like no matter who I get of the other positions, they're going to be at, you know, a pretty decent advantage. But you are now on the clock again. So the 90s are off limits for me and the 80s are now off limits for you, just to clarify. All right. So I will go with the 2010s. I'm going to get my tie in out of the way with Mr. Rob Gronkowski. Definitely think he's got to be arguably one of the best in the game. So easy to pick for me. Yeah. That is a very easy pick. I obviously wanted him, if the draft were to work out like that, but, you know, the draft doesn't always work out like that. So I'm kind of thinking now, what do I do in this situation? Who do I pluck a player from? I kind of want to get my quarterback out of the way here. Okay. I'm thinking about it. You may do the same. I'll see. There was something that I kind of wanted to do here, but now I'm kind of, we'll see. We'll see. So you're going for your quarterback next to you. So this is, this makes it very interesting because there's one decade now. There's one decade that I want to get a quarterback from, but I could just snag one right now and say, yeah, I'm getting this one. So screw it. Damn it. This is kind of tough. Screw it. I'm going quarterback and I'm getting Patrick Mahomes. Oh, okay. Yeah. I'm going to take a quarterback from the twenties. Patrick Mahomes going to run this decade. So yeah, I just think, you know, in terms of play style. He's one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and I just feel like, yes, give me the quarterback of this decade. And that was going to be the one that would be toughest. I feel like to, to find one is a decade that's only halfway over, you know, we know what Patrick Mahomes is. So, you know, I feel you get the biggest bang out of this decade with the Mahomes pick. You know, I completely forgot about using him as my twenties pick. So, you know, it's between Peyton and Tom. I'm glad you didn't, you know, have that in your list. Now you just get who you want. Yeah. Now I get the pick. So go ahead and give me Tom. Tom though, because Tom played in the twenties, the 2000s. 2000s. Okay. 2000s Tom. Yes, sir. 2000s Tom in his prime got all the rings, obviously just the greatest. So, you know, one of my favorite players ever to lace him up. We all have somewhere we're trying to get to as the largest energy producer in Colorado. See what I say for details. Give me Tom, baby. Okay. So picking back from my homes did kind of throw a little bit of a wrench in the, you know, the plans that I was going to do. So I'm saving that from a receiver. Oh, man. Now I'm kind of tell, but hey, now I'm just, you know, a straight up skill position player. Running back, wide receiver, wide receiver and tight end. Those are the only positions I have left to fill. And I have the 70s, 80s, 2000s and 2010s. So go ahead and I'm going to go ahead and start in the 80s. And I'm going to take a wide receiver, Jerry Rice off the board. Why not just take, you know, the greatest wide receiver of all time? It just makes sense to go ahead and do that. So yeah, that's what I'm going to do there. So you stole mine right off the board going to have to exit that out. So for the 90s, I'm going Michael Irving. I will take the next best in that error. I think he fits a little bit more of what the style I want to bring is being a bigger guy, more of a blocking style, but obviously can be too one on one at any time. So yeah, I think he fits right in. So thanks for doing that for me, Mike. All right. All right. Let's see here. So you took Michael Irving, yes, sir, as your 90s selection. So now I got three decades left, 70s, 2000s and 2010s. You already got a tight end, so I'm going to get my wide receiver here from the 2010s. Julio Jones is the best wide receiver from that decade. The only argument that somebody will have is the touchdown stats and I understand Antonio Brown's phenomenal wide receiver in that decade. But Julio Jones has watched the tape, man, what he can do from that big frame, you know, with that huge body that he has six foot, almost six foot four, 225 pounds, runs a four foot, four point three 40, three point nine, I think, or four, three nine with a broken foot. Cut down. Julio Jones in his prime was just an unstoppable force and I think, you know, him and Jerry Rice on the same team of Patrick Mahomes, throwing them the football, and you got the Dallas Cowboys offensive line blocking for him, man, oh man, this is just what I always would have wanted as a Falcons fan. But yeah, you know, I couldn't do a decades draft without getting my boy Julio. I knew that was in the bag somewhere, obviously, and wide receiver Julio Jones was coming to that spot. I'm going to take it back to the 70s and I am going to choose the Miami Dolphins offensive line that was headlined by Larry Little and Jim Langer. Oh, yeah. Hall of Famers. Hall of Famers studs up at the front could just move people out at will. Like I said, with my running style first, I think this offensive line protecting, you know, with the up there with the best of them, I think I have a solid line. I think you do as well. All I have left. Yeah, all I have left is the wide receiver, or sorry, a running back position and tied in position. I have two decades left 70s and 2000s, so I have to kind of make that work. I'm going 2000s and I got to get my boy, Tony Gonzalez to come be the tight and I know people are going to argue, you know, I could have gotten somebody else solid, but man, Tony Gonzalez, like I said, with I mean, he's a former chief, right? He never got to play with Patrick Mahomes. I'll tell you that. So it would be nice for those two to connect and obviously with his former teammate, arguably the best offensive teammate he's ever played with. I'd probably say it's either Priest Holmes or Julio Jones, but, oh man, Tony Gonzalez. I will say, you know, the default jerseys that we're going to wear though, are the foul whistle, Patrick Mahomes going to have to come, Tony's going to be right at home, throw a different shade of red. Well, how about this? Well, we're black. We're black. So it's a little bit different for you, but yeah, Tony Gonzalez is my tight end off the board. We're going with the Oilers powder blue for our uniforms, so Walter gets to feel at home, but I think my last one's wide receiver for the 20s, I'm going Tyree kill. I think obviously he is going to explode this year with a lot of chips on his shoulder, fastest guy in the league with Michael Irving doing a lot of the underneath work. We can have Tyree obviously take the cap off the defense, baby. I love my offense right now. Yeah, it's looking good. No doubt about it. So now here I am with, you know, the running back position and I only have one decade left and it's the 70s. And this is probably going to come to a surprise or come as a surprise to some people. I'm going O.J. Simpson who the, you know, I'm one of your people here, O.J. Simpson, they might think that he's a Bronco because he's connected to a Bronco, but he's actually a Buffalo Bill and he was the first running back to go for over 2,000 yards if I'm not mistaken. Yeah. And if that's not a stat, he damn sure did it more impressive than anybody else that O.J. Simpson is one of the greatest running backs of all time and, you know, his, his legacy and all that is kind of tarnished at this point is almost a joke because of not only what he's been on social media since he got out of prison and was, you know, just got kind of reintroduced to the world or whatever, but not only that, just what he's connected to, you know, and no one real would have really appreciated this pick because he also could have been picked in the 80s too, but he did a lot of damage in the 1970s and I just feel like having a 2,000 yard rusher on this offense kind of really just sets it over the top. Is that all your selections? That is all my selection. Okay. For some reason I said Houston Euler's powder blue, I meant Chicago beer. Chicago Bears? Yes. Okay. So Falcons versus Bears is what it would be. So this started out as just, you know, kind of a shits engaged draft. We kind of just wanted to have a little bit of fun here for a bonus episode, but it ended up turning into a part one because it's going to be a part two. I feel like this was too much fun. Our offenses are too close. We are going to recap what we have, but we got to get our defenses out here too. So what we're going to do is we're going to have another draft of the decades part two defense. Let's go. And we're going to pick defensive lines, line back in course, safety tandems, cornerback tandems, right? That's four position groups right there. And then just to kind of touch it up a little bit because we need two more, right? Because we're going to decades. That was four. We need two more. So we're going to go head coach. Oh, okay. We're going to go kick returner. And I think there's going to be one kick returner than everybody in that, but I will say keep in mind. First row draft pick. Yeah. There's a couple though. So I will say, I'm not going to, you know, spill or spill anything here. Got you. Got you. Let's just go and recap really quickly. I'll tell you mine. Quarterback. I want Patrick Mahomes running back O.J. Simpson, wide receiver Jerry Rice, wide receiver Julio Jones. I like that. Tight end. Tony Gonzalez in offensive line. I went Dallas Cowboys of the 1990s. I like that. I think this was a pretty solid, I guess, balanced offense. I like your offense. Mine. I went QB Tom Brady running back Walter Payton, first receiver, Michael Irvin, second Tyree Kill. Tight end, Rob Gronkowski, the offensive line, Miami Dolphins from the 1970s. There's a chance that this game, like if we were to do an 11 game series, we'd go into it five and five pushing it to game 11. In fact, like this is a hell of a offensive showdown. That's why we have to figure out what defensive players are on there. And obviously what coach is going to be coaching us. It's going to be a big time deal. Looking forward to it. But Terrence, that does do it for us for this episode of the football function podcast. Thank you so much for your contributions to this bad boy, putting together a hell of a draft. Always. Off the rip and off the top of your head. You got any shout outs or any plugs? Anything like that before we sign off? Yeah. Definitely shout out to the Funkeys. If you are definitely stayed around this long in the episode, you're a real one. We thank you guys so much for everything that you might as well get certified. Might as well throw it out there and be a certified Funky. Helps us in a long way. Helps us many ways that you don't even see, but we appreciate it so much. You guys, stay blessed out there. Have fun with what you're doing. Be nice to everybody. Be good. Say no to the haters. Fuck the haters. And stay true. All right. Peace. Well said. Well said. Thank you guys so much. Like Terry mentioned, subscribing on Patreon. One of the best ways you can support the show. Another great way you can support the show is just by spreading the word. Yeah. I love it. I love whenever we get tagged in those posts, you know, whether it's somebody listening to our show on their Spotify, they'll screenshot it, put it on their Snapchat story or their Instagram story. I love it. It's always a great feeling. I always appreciate it. We get that stuff from like DJ Koozmo and people like that. So it definitely means a lot. All the support we get. I'm trying to be better about social media. I'm trying to be more on point with our posting. It's a little bit difficult during the summer because episodes come completely off schedule. And, you know, sometimes I get these episodes and I'm not posting them for two or three days just because, you know, you want to kind of spread it out a little bit. Right. So I am going to work on that for all the shows, not just, you know, the football function, but also the college football function and the grim reefer rivalries, everything like that and everything that's going to be coming just because you want to get more ears, more people listening to this show. That's really why we do it guys. We would love, we would love nothing more than to see a massive jump in our community for this fourth season. I feel like we're doing pretty good, you know, obviously we're chugging along. We're pleased with what we've gotten back from this, but we, there could always be more, you know, and we kind of, you know, we do our part as hosts, bringing the content on a weekly basis. Now we just need our certified Funkeys, you know, we need to kind of come in forces and show that our community is strong. It is growing and, you know, it's here to stay and ultimately that's, that's going to be done by you guys bringing more of us, you know, building this army and making it even more and more of a force. And that's really all we want. I feel like this is a great season. I already told you guys I want to have multiple different in season series going on, not just, you know, team of destiny and NFL and world, which we do in the off season. I know we've kind of taken a little bit of a step away, but I feel like what we've brought with the free agency talking this draft right here and the next draft we're going to do is definitely a good substitute. It's a good fill and a way to also give bonus episodes because I know that yeah, you guys find the series, but some bonus stuff is also good and it's also fun to and it's a good way for me. Terry and I to have a little bit of fun while we're doing this, but with all that being said, guys, you guys are doing a phenomenal job. Thank you so much for listening. Hopefully you guys will continue to do so as we continue to roll through the summer here. Training camp is literally just you're almost able to count it on two hands. How many days away teams are kind of already reporting and just getting ready and this is this is it.
