Welcome to another morning prayer broadcast. My name is Bernadine Simmons and I am filling in for Pastor Sean and Amy Pender this morning. My husband and I love Pastor Sean and Pastor Amy. They are a genuine and powerful man and woman of God who believe in giving their congregants opportunities to share the word of God. We are honored to be a part of Miracle Healing Center Church and work alongside them in ministry. Thank you for tuning in today. We are excited to be sharing God's word with you. Our theme for this week is you are never alone. If you believe that to be true, type in the comments, I am never alone. My subtopic is believe the word. Bow your head with me in a word of prayer. Heavenly Father, we thank you today for an opportunity to come into your presence, Lord God. Father, we thank you for this opportunity to speak and to the lives of your people. And I pray, God, that you will touch each and every listener right where they are today, Lord God. That whatever it is that they need from you, that they would find something in this word to encourage them. I pray, God, that you would speak to me and through me, Lord God. Heavenly Father, not even Lord God, as I minister your word, that it will be simple enough for a child to understand and that they too would come to know you and a part of their sense that they too would be encouraged by the word today and Jesus' name, amen. Today, I'll be speaking about one of my favorite biblical characters, Gideon. I'll read you a bit of his story and judges chapter six, verses 11 through 16. The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak and opera that belonged to Joash the other site, where son Gideon was thrashing wheat and a wine press to keep it from the Midianites. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, "The Lord is with you, mighty warrior." "Pardon me, my Lord," Gideon replied, "but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us?" Where are all these wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, "Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt? "But now the Lord has abandoned us "and given us into the hand of Midian." The Lord turned to him and said, "Go in the strength you have "and save Israel out of Midian's hand. "Am I not sending you? "Pardon me, my Lord. "I just love Gideon. "He's just so polite with his questions. "Pardon me, my Lord," Gideon replied, "but how can I save Israel? "My clan is the weakest in Manasseh "and I am the least in my family. "The Lord answered, "I will be with you "and you will strike down all the Midianites "leaving none alive." As you can see, Gideon in Judges 6 is living a life when he feels abandoned and defeated. He has a low self-concept. He has been beaten down by the Midianites, the Malachites and others. It has gotten so bad that he has to hide just a thrash wheat to get his daily bread. He wondered where God was while he was going through all of his situations. Where was God when he had to hide in caves because of his oppressors? Where was God when they planted their fields and before they could even reap the harvest, the Midianites came and stole it away from them? Where was God? When he watched some of his people starve to death because their oppressors didn't even leave enough for them to feed their families. Perhaps you've been in a situation where you wondered where God was. You've experienced financial difficulties, health issues, family and relationship issues. And as you go through these difficulties, it's hard to see the presence of God, the presence of a God who cares. You feel abandoned and alone, much like Gideon. And in many cases, you can't help but wonder, Lord, where are you? Lord, where are you when I cry myself asleep at night because of the hurt, because of the pain, because of the uncertainty? Lord, where are you when the bill collectors are knocking at the door and I don't know where the next time is coming from? Lord, where are you when my children are looking up to me for answers? And I don't have the answers to give them. Lord, where are you? I feel so abandoned. I'm trying to trust you, but I don't see you in this situation where I am right now. Lord, where are you? Scripture says in Isaiah 43 and two, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. "And when you pass through the rivers, "they will not sweep over you. "When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned. "The flames will not set you ablaze. "An essence God is saying, "You are not alone in your troubles. "I am right here with you. "He is with you. "He will take care of you. "If God says it, believe the word. "He will do it. "If you truly believe the word today, "type it into the comments. "Say, I believe the word. "And current yourself and the Lord "to know that he is with you. "He will never leave you. "He will never forsake you. "I encourage you today to believe the word." So where was God when Gideon was going through his troubles? He was right there with Gideon. God has stated many times in his word that he is with us. He will never leave us, especially during the difficult times. Even when you feel alone, believe the word. You are not alone. I remember growing up, hearing my parents and some of my older aunties say this thing don't go by feelings. This go by trust. You trust God. It's not how you feel, because sometimes feelings can be very deceptive. You feel alone, but God is right there with you. God knew that we were going to experience difficult times during the course of your work with him. He knew there were going to be days when you felt as if he had forsaken you. He knew there were going to be days when you wanted to give up. But I encourage you, don't ever give up. However, he lets us know in his word that whatever it is we're going through, he will be there for you. He has called you by name. You belong to him. He has great plans for your life. The situation you are in, it's just temporary. If at this moment you would see your future self through the eyes of God, then you would do whatever it takes to get to that place. When the angel of the Lord met Gideon, he said to him in verse 12, "The Lord is with you, mighty warrior." At that moment, Gideon felt nothing like a warrior. In fact, he felt like a nobody. He felt forsaken by God, and he said so. He questioned God. He was polite about it, but he still questioned him. He wanted to know where was the God of his ancestors because he had heard them tell so many stories. He had heard so many stories of how God delivered them. But now he wasn't seeing it. So he questioned him. He wanted to know if God was with them. Why was all these things happening to them? Isn't it interesting that the only time we questioned God is during the bad times? When everything is going well, we have no doubt whatsoever that God is with us. But the moment something bad happens, we think that he has forsaken us. God didn't promise us sunshine always. He didn't say that nothing would ever go wrong in our lives. However, we know that during the storms of our life, he is only a prayer away. So that we don't have to worry when we encounter storms. Our Savior has promised that he will be with us through it all. He has promised that he will never leave us nor forsake us. And we can trust him to keep his word. Type in the comments. I trust God to keep his word. I believe the word. I am sure that you can think of a time when you are in a difficult situation and God came through just in the nick of time. He's done it before and I promise you, he'll do it again. I say to you, believe the word. Trust God, you are not alone in your situation. There is a song I love that says for the God on the mountain is still God in the valley. When things go wrong, he'll make them right. And the God of the good times is still God in the bad times. The God of the day, he is still God in the night. In other words, God is a God of all seasons. He is with you at all times. He doesn't just disappear when you encounter troubles or enter a season of difficulties. He is with you even when you can't feel his presence. That's where fate comes in. The ability to believe when you can't hear, feel or see God, believe the word. Believe that he is with you. Verse 14 of Judges chapter six says, "The Lord turned to him and said, "Go in the strength you have and save Israel "out of millions hand. "Am I not sending you?" At Gideon's point of greatest weakness, of darkest despair, God called him to save his people. Isn't it just like God to wait until we feel like the lowest slug that crawls on the ground, to call us, to do something that just takes a whole lot of strength? But the secret is, when God tells us to go, he goes with us. And when we go, we meet him at the destination. So at no part of our joining, our real own. At no part of our joining, are we just expending our own strength? Because he gives us the strength to do what he calls us to do. We just have to believe the word. At this point, Gideon couldn't see in himself what God saw in him. He had allowed his circumstances and then Sidious whispers of the enemy to beat him down and crush his self-concept. God saw a mighty warrior, but Gideon saw himself as the runt of the litter, the least in his father's house. Verse 15 says, "But Lord Gideon asks, how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family." Wow. Talk about a low self-esteem. His clan was the weakest, and he was the weakest in his clan. You can't get much lower than that. But even in the midst of how low Gideon was feeling, even as he saw himself as just this low, low person, God saw something different. And it's up to Gideon to see himself now as God saw him as a mighty warrior. You lose out on your blessing if you continue to see yourself through narrow, distorted lenses. You may be broken. You may be wounded. You may be scarred. Your self-esteem may be in pieces. Like Gideon, you see yourself as less than you are. But I say to you, believe the word. The angel called Gideon mighty warrior. What is God calling you? He calls you redeemed. He calls you loved. He calls you the apple of his eye. I encourage you to find yourself in the word of God. When the enemy whispers lies into your ears, it's the time for you to take out your Bible and find yourself in the word. Find what God is saying about you. Find what God is calling you. Let that drown out the voice of the enemy. Let God words be the word that you think about, that you meditate on, not the ugly lies of the enemy. Gideon needed to believe that he was more than a weakling. He needed to believe that God was with him. Believe that he could do the thing that God had called him to do. He was not alone and neither are you. He was not invisible and neither are you. God saw him just like he sees you. God knew him just like he knows you. God was with him just like he is with you. He was not forsaken and neither are you. God is speaking to you as he spoke to Gideon. Believe the word. Reiterate that in the comments again. I believe the word. Believe the word. God knows what you are capable of. Despite all that you are going through, he sees you. He sees who he created you to be. He have a future planned for you and he wants you to become the person that you are meant to be. Scripture says in Jeremiah 29, 11, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future. In order for the plan to come to pass, you have to believe the word. You can't get around that. You have to believe the word. Trust God, except as your reality, the picture he has for you. Gideon allowed God's vision of him to wipe out the vision he had of himself. If you read ahead, you'll see at the end of the seven chapter in Judges that we no longer see the defeated Gideon. We met in chapter six. By the end of chapter seven, he is the mighty warrior that God had named him in chapter six. Because he believed the word, it starts with belief. Type that in the comments. It starts with belief. And right under that type, I believe. From a weak link to a leader of men, Gideon had moved far beyond his self-imposed limitation. God had indeed called him by the right name, although he couldn't see it at that time. How do you think God sees you? Do you think he sees you as you see yourself? Or do you think he sees something greater? How do you feel of yourself at this very moment? Do you think you can become what God wants you to be? Form a picture in your mind of how God really sees you. Think about how much he loves you. Don't you think someone who loves you wants the best for you? Start to see a different you than you are seeing right now. Believe the word. Let his vision of you wipe out the vision that you have of yourself. You may look at yourself and see a weak person, but God looks at you and sees strength, ability, potential. If you were not stronger than you think you are, you would not be here. You would not have survived some of the things that you went through, but you did. You're present. You are testimony to the fact that God did not make a mistake when he called you by name. Not the name you are accustomed to, but by what he sees inside of you. Believe the word. God is with you. Gideon felt alone in that field, but he wasn't alone. God saw him. God was with him, and God is with you. You are not alone. Believe the word. Bow your head with me in the name of any word of prayer. Heavenly Father, I thank you for this opportunity that you have given me to minister to your people. And Father, I pray God that you will touch the lives of everyone who has listened to this message. Father, you see how they see themselves, but Father, I pray God that from this day forward, that they would see themselves, Lord God, through your lenses, Lord God, that they would know Lord God, that they are not Lord God, the weakling, that they think they are Lord God, that they would know that they are not who the enemy says they are Lord God. But Heavenly Father, that they would know that they are loved, that they are the apple of your eye, that they are redeemed by your son's blood. And Heavenly Father, I pray Lord God that whatever it is, that they are seeking from you, that you would give them Lord God the faith to believe the word, to know, that if you have said it Lord God, that it shall come to pass Lord God in their life, that they are to hold on to the word that you have given them, that you have spoken over their lives Lord God, that they would know God, that you still work miracles Lord God, that you still heal Lord God. Heavenly Father, that you are a keeper of your children Lord God. Heavenly Father, I pray for strength Lord God, for courage to make it through each and every day on whatever situation they are going through right now, that they would come out stronger on the other side, just like Gideon did Lord God.
