We talk about how I like to follow the radio news back there in the good old US of A and I was listening to a podcast on DCR TV, which is a website devoted to Baltimore and Washington radio and television. Very specific. Very specific. Those are the markets that they're concerned with, right? And they were doing an interview with a DJ named Albie D, who was on a station that I used to work at but years after me, WPGC and he was one of the most listened to and successful disc jockeys in the history of the Washington, DC area. Allie, you know from ratings, he had a 42 share in teams at one point, a 42 share. And this would have been in the 90s. So that was a big deal, right? Huge. So they have him on. I'm going to play a tiny bit of the air check from him and then listen to the first question that the interviewer is asking this DJ Albie D. Did you just hear what I just heard? It's me. It's me. Albie D. That's right. That's what he said. By the way, for the kids listening, hi Noah. This is how radio shows the sound, what you're hearing Albie D. People screaming their heads up. All right. So a few more seconds to this and then the question. I'll be one thing that you did that I think is just genius, it is coming up with your catch phrase. It's me. It's me. It's Albie D. How did that start? What do you think he's going to say, Allie? No. I'm listening to this podcast now. No. This morning. No. I had no heads up, no tip off. Was it expecting it didn't know it was coming? Me. First question. Where did it's me? It's me. Albie D. Come from. Let's see what he has to say. It's stolen. Is it really? Absolutely. There was a guy that was doing, I can't forget the shift that he was doing. But he was at WAVA, Jean Baxter. Imagine my surprise. In the wild. Imagine my surprise when he breaks that up, right? Were you looking around your office like, are you guys hearing this? Yeah. To whoever's in your office? Right. Am I being punked? Right. So let's hear the story. The time was the APD, a music director, and I used to listen to his ads back in the day. And he would say, it's me. It's me. It's Gini B, Gini B. Oh. Oh. Did not, by the way. Never said that. Never said that. Incorrect. Sure. Never heard of that. Yeah. Never heard of that. Don't know where he got that. Right. But see, this is like a game of telephone. Like this is his memory of her, who he then shares with this guy. And now it becomes canon, right? So now everybody's going to think I'm Gini B, which I've never heard of before. Right around that time, ABA was being sold and it was being moved to, the format was going away. So at that point, I went, OK, well, and Gene was already in LA doing a radio show in LA. So I figured, hey, I'm just going to take it. And, well, you know, that's saying the rest is history. He's still on the radio today in 2024. He's still doing it. It's me, it's me, LBD. So in a way, that tiny, tiny slice of me lives. The only question I'm having besides how he remembered it wrong with the name is that when I was on WAVA, that was my flash Phillips years. So I wasn't Gene Baxter on the radio at WAVA, and I haven't quite figured out where he might have heard that to then steal it in his words. It was still a very fun surprise to have that on the show today. Yeah. Yeah. You need to reach out to him. You need to send an email to the station and say, number one, I'm suing. Number two, just kidding. Can we figure out where you actually heard it because it's kind of bugging me? It is bugging me a little bit to try to figure it out, yeah. If you want to look at the state of radio in 2024, he is still on the air. He works for total traffic, which means he's doing traffic in the afternoon on a station in DC. He's not doing his own show anymore. But in the mornings, Ali, he is voice tracking nine radio stations. Oh, my gosh. That's what he's doing for work right now. And making half of what he did in the night. Oh, yeah. A fraction of what he was making back then. Yeah. Anyway, I just thought for people who are radio geeks, they might enjoy that shout-out about the "It's me, it's me, GBGB." I just thought it was really funny when I came across it. That's hysterical. 5280 exteriors James Hardy citing is a low maintenance sighting made primarily of cement that resist flame spread and repels wood-borne insects and woodpeckers.
