(upbeat music) - Hello, race fans, and welcome to Disc Golf Daily. We are the podcast that gets you caught up with Disc Golf News and Growth in about 10 minutes, saving you time and effort. If you wanna dive deeper into any story, as always, links are in the show notes. Give us a rating, it helps us grow. Our number one news story, stats catch up. Thank you, stat Mando, we love your catch up. Giving Kristin a little love. Kristin Tata wins the European Open for the second year in a row, completing the largest comeback in women's major history. This is Kristin's seventh career major title, tying her for the third most wins of all time. She couldn't have done it without shooting her literal worst rated round in nearly five years. August 2019, she did a touch worse, oof. Wait a bounce back, Katie. And let's give Ganon a little love, too. Ganon Burr wins the European Open in a dramatic finish. Listen to yesterday's podcast to hear Brian Papa Wolf frally talk through it. This is Ganon's second career MPO major title. This is his fourth win of the season, doubling his career total to eight. And for those of you keeping track at home, yes. He is tied for 10th all time in the men's division with wins and he's like four years old. All right, let's give Ricky a little love, too. With his second place finish, Ricky Wysocki has passed Paul Macbeth for the most cash earned in PDGA history. He sits at 760,700 in some. The crazy thing is how close their career earnings are. Paul finished third and made just $1,800 less than Ricky at the European Open. But that was enough for Ricky to pass. Also, despite going OB on hole 18, Ricky Wysocki shoots 13 down, setting a course record at the beast. He was in circle one in regulation on 14 of the 18 holes. He missed just one of those putts. That's how you card a ton of birdies. Through two rounds at the beast, 'cause they only played two rounds there, Ricky Wysocki shot 23 down, 1075 rated disc golf. Amazing. Our number two story of the day, will Kristen win the points race? All right, so this is like a little bonus part. I did some analysis just 'cause I love this stuff and wait 'til you hear how crazy close this is gonna be. Right now, Kristen is 160 points behind Missy. She has five events left to play because she's skipping two events. She's skipping Ledgestone, which is a DGPT plus event worth 50% more than normal. And she's skipping Idlewild, which is a standard points event. Missy has played 14 events so far and is averaging 77 points per event. Kristen has played nine events and is averaging 103 points per event. Remember, Kristen got injured so she missed a bunch of events in the middle. If they stay at those averages, Kristen will end up at 1,435 points. Missy will be playing seven more events coming down the stretch 'cause she's not skipping Ledgestone or Idlewild. If she keeps up the 77 point average, this would get her to 1,600 points. They're abouts. Not really that close, right? However, Missy will need to drop three of her events and her lowest three events are 27 points at Jonesboro, 49 points at OTB and 65 points at Waco. Add all those together and she will not be counting 142 points. We subtract this from her projected 1,600 in sum and you get 1,466, just 30 points ahead of Kristen's projected finish. It is going to come down to the final two playoff events and Kristen has never won at Maple Hill. In order to win the points race, she just might have to clear that hurdle. Our number three news story of the day, PDGA approvals. The only two discs approved this week are from Lone Star Disc. The bash is a new putter and the cactus is a distance driver. Boom, that story is done. Our number four news story, Junior Worlds champions. So, here are some names you should likely remember because you'll probably be watching them on the big screen in five to 10 years. Ryan Mon and Kayla Hess won the 18 and under divisions. Austin Yoder and Theresa Cuevas won the 15 and under. Tignal Maheen and Eva Lattensko won the 12 and under. Nico Forbes and Sarah Wadsworth won the 10 and under and Cody Buecher and Keeley Bain won the eight and under. Congratulations to these world champions. Some fun rating notes. Ryan Mon, four of his five rounds were above a thousand. Actually, three of them were above 10.30 and his second round was 10.51 in Sanity. Welcome to Junior Worlds. In the 15 and under division, there were over a dozen 1,000 rated rounds and Cody Baker, or Buecher, I'm sorry, shot an 8.83 round to start the tournament. He is eight at most, shooting 8.83. Yeah, these kids are good. Now let's talk about course growth and who's number one. All right, course growth. We had 19 new courses last week, which is a little below average. Our average over the year is 22.3 courses per week. However, our yearly average courses per day stays right around 3.2. And we currently have 15,768 disc golf courses in the world. By the end of the year, I anticipate we will have over 16,250. And this year, we will have had over 1,100 courses put in the ground. That is an 8.4% growth rate. That is phenomenal. We had 14 new courses go in in the U.S. And then each of these countries had one new course put in, Sweden, Norway, France, Slovakia, South Africa, and Zambia. Well done. Zambia had three courses. Actually, they had four courses. Now they have five. Boom. Actually, it might be, I don't even know. It's one of those two. Anyway, they got one more than they used to have. Now let's see who's number one on the men's side. And so we do hour rankings, the stat mando rankings, power rankings, and the pro-tour standings. We mash them all together and figure out who's number one. Ganon and Ricky are tied with 70 points. We've got to give the nod to Ganon for winning the European Open, literally over Ricky. It all comes down to the last hole. Ganon is the number one player in the world right now. Calvin, Anthony, and Nicholas are all sitting in a tie, a literal three-way tie for third place. Congratulations to Gavin Babcock, who moves up 12 spots to 11th. Congratulations to Paul McBeth, who moves up 11 spots to be ranked 13th in the world. Welcome back, Paul. And if we're just talking the top 10, Isaac Robinson moved up two spots. He's now ranked eighth in the world. On the women's side, drum roll, please. I don't know where the drum roll machine is. Kristen is number one in the world. She is on top, Missy is in second, and Owen Scoggins is in third. Evelyna and Holland round out the top five. Got to say, congratulations to Silva Sarnan. She continues to play well. She moves up two more spots. She is now ranked seventh in the world. Ellie Ezra Midling moves up two spots as well, and she is ranked 16th in the world.
