On Tuesday, a federal judge granted an administrative stay pausing Trump's plans, at least through Monday. In the first briefing of Trump's second term press secretary, Caroline Levitt, faced questions about the order. "Assistance that is going directly to individuals will not be impacted." She said it's the responsibility of the Trump administration to be stewards of Americans' tax dollars. The House Oversight Committee is launching an investigation into sanctuary cities and their impact on federal immigration enforcement. Chairman James Comer has sent letters to the mayors of New York City, Chicago, Boston and Denver requesting information on their city sanctuary policies. He also called on the mayors to testify at a committee hearing on February 11th. Norfolk Southern and the Village of East Palestine, Ohio are reaching a $22 million settlement over a trained derailment in 2023 that led to a toxic spill. The settlement is set to be used for priorities the Village identifies in connection with the derailment and also reaffirms Norfolk Southern's commitment of $25 million to ongoing improvements to East Palestine City Park. Additional legal actions are pending. Residents challenging the company's $600 million settlement related to the crash have asked a court to reject the judge's order, requiring them to put up a nearly $1 million bond to continue their appeal for higher compensation and more information about it. An Ocean County, New Jersey restaurant has decided to remove a controversial burger from its menu after it drew online criticism. The restaurant Aqua Blue Kitchen and Cocktails apologized for adding the Proud Boy burger to its menu.
