The event gets underway Monday afternoon at Trump National Durald Golf Club and runs through Wednesday. In the evening, President Trump is expected to join Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson for a dinner and reception. Tuesday, Johnson and committee chairs will conduct breakout sessions as Republicans look to package the Trump administration's top priorities in a single bill. Before wrapping up Wednesday, the House Majority Leader Steve Scalise is scheduled to host a panel for the committee chairs. Aren't Scott Carr in Washington? President Trump is defending the late night purge of 18 inspectors general. These are independent government officials who look for fraud, waste, and violations in their agencies. On Saturday, a senior White House official confirmed the firings, saying the officials were let go because they don't align with the new Trump administration. Senator Adam Schiff says President Trump broke the law when he made the firing since Congress must be notified 30 days before any Senate confirmed inspector general is fired. He broke the law and not just any law, but a law meant to crowd out, waste, fraud, and abuse. Comparing on NBC's Meet the Press, the California Democrat blasted the decision and warned the move increases the risk of corruption under the Trump administration. Federal health officials are urging pet food companies to increase safeguards due to the rise in cat illnesses and deaths from bird flu, contaminated raw pet food, and raw milk. The FDA recently advised pet food manufacturers to source ingredients from flocks or herds that are healthy and begin using heat treatment to inactivate harmful viruses. The bird flu outbreak began in 2022 and has spread among both domestic and feral cats. The FDA also recommends pet owners cook all raw pet food to help eliminate risk. I'm Lisa Carton. The U.S. Air Force is no longer teaching its recruits about the Tuskegee airman because of President Trump's new DEI order. Jim Forbes has details. The Tuskegee airman were the 15,000 black pilots and service members of the segregated Army who fought in World War II. Reuters says course instruction about the pilots was pulled from the basic training curriculum after Trump signed an executive order holding all diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. The Air Force also pulled course instruction about the women Air Force service pilots of World War II known as the wasps. A new poll says Angelenos are not happy with the way Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass is handling the wildfires. 54% of our respondents disapproved of Karen Bass and her actions after the wildfires. Some of the approval rating of only 37%. Owen Brennan, president of consulting firm Madison McQueen says the poll also showed Rick Caruso, who was runner up in the 2022 mayoral race as more support than current mayor Karen Bass as of today. The poll also reported folks in LA County would consider Republican leadership. Meanwhile, 51% of those polled also showed they approve of the way Governor Gavin Newsom is handling the fires. Today's NFL championship games will determine which teams will face off in Super Bowl 59. At 3 p.m. Eastern, the Washington commanders will take on the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC Championship. Some of music's biggest names will take the stage at this year's Grammy Awards. Popstars Charlie XCX, Chapel, Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter will all perform at the ceremony. Other performers include Billie Eilish, Shakira, Ray, and Teddy Swims. This year's ceremony will be used to raise funds for ongoing relief efforts for the Los Angeles wildfires.
