Vice President JD Vance is confirming Pete HEGSET as the Secretary of Defense, a tense vote in the Senate Friday night ended in a 50/50 tie after three Republicans voted against his confirmation. Vice President Vance had to act as a tiebreaker and voted HEGSET in. President Trump is promising federal support for Los Angeles County in the wake of the devastating palisades and eaten fires. "The federal government standing behind you, 100 percent. The first lady and I are in California to express a great love for the people of California." On Friday afternoon, Trump met with first responders and wildfire survivors in Pacific palisades, the site of the most expensive natural disaster in Los Angeles history. The CDC is releasing new flu data. That's despite the Trump administration putting a halt this week on virtually all scientific communication coming from the federal health agencies. The new data was not reported, as it usually is, on a CDC webpage called "FluVue." Instead, the latest flu numbers are in a section that focuses generally on respiratory illness. UnitedHealthcare Group has a new CEO following last month's killing of a company executive in New York City. Jennifer Pulsoni has the details. The company announcing that Tim Noel, who's been with UnitedHealthcare since 2007, will head the company following the shooting death of former CEO Brian Thompson. Thompson fatally shot back in December near the Hilton Midtown. He'd been in the city to attend a conference, a lead shooter, Luigi Mangioni, was later arrested in Pennsylvania, pleading not guilty to a number of charges. His court case in New York delayed until the middle of February, so both sides have more time to prepare for pretrial proceedings. I'm Jennifer Pulsoni. Fire survivors in L.A. and Ventura counties will have one less thing to worry about as they work to put their lives back together. Tammy Trujillo has the details. Governor Newsom announced Thursday that more than 270 state banks, credit unions and lenders have come together to make mortgages one less thing that people affected by the fires have to deal with right now. homeowners living in certain zip codes can have their payments put on hold for three months without those missed payments being reported to the credit agencies. Newsom said that will give people time and money to address their immediate needs. The program also provides streamlined applications and protection from new foreclosures and evictions for at least 60 days. I'm Tammy Trujillo. The Google-owned fitness company will pay a penalty of $12.25 million between 2018 and 2020 dozens of consumers reported second and third degree burns.
