New York Governor Kathy Hochl is unveiling details on her plan to ban phones at schools throughout the state starting next school year. Kristen Marks reports, "Hochl says war is being waged on children's minds." "Kids are being besieged with addictive algorithms, toxic social media, and cell phones that just can be so manipulative." She wants students to hand over their phones and other smart devices for the entire school day, including lunch. Schools will decide how to store them, such as with the use of lock pouches, which will be covered under the state budget. Schools will also be required to give parents an alternate way of contacting their kids. Hochl says schools with phone bands have seen a difference. "Those students told me that kids are talking to each other in the cafeteria, in between classes." She says those students are also learning more. Kristen Marks, New York.
