He'll visit the sites of recent disasters in North Carolina and California. Democratic California Senator Adam Schiff says believes the president will be moved when he gets a firsthand look at the devastation caused by wildfires. I would hope also that we can get away from this kind of partisan talk of conditioning aid to California. We've never done that when it comes to our fellow citizens. Schiff says he and fellow Democratic Senator Alex Padilla were among those invited to join the president during his visit but they will be unable to do so because they have votes today on Capitol Hill. Trump told reporters he'll first be stopping in North Carolina where tropical storm Helene caused billions of dollars worth of damage last September. The Senate is expected to vote tonight to confirm President Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense Pete Hagseth. The Senate voted largely along party lines Thursday to advance Hagseth's nomination to the floor with the final vote of 51 to 49. Republican senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins voted against the former Fox News host with Murkowski saying she cannot in good conscience support his nomination. Emergency crews continue to prepare for a rainstorm expected to arrive in Southern California this weekend. Mark Mayfield with what that entails. They are doing what they can to protect recent burn areas from mudslides and to prevent toxic ash and debris runoff. Earlier this week Mayor Karen Bass issued an executive order to speed up cleanup efforts in burn areas and to mitigate the environmental impacts of fire-related pollutants. Work includes removing vegetation, shoring uphill sides, installing barriers, and reinforcing roads in anticipation of possible mud and debris flows. The Los Angeles area is expected to get a quarter inch to a half an inch of rain starting tomorrow. The S&P 500 is inching higher to a new record on Michael Kastner. President Trump is signing an executive order to declassify records related to high-level assassinations. In downtown Dallas, President Kennedy was shot today just as his Medicaid left downtown Dallas. What we know at the moment is that Senator Robert Kennedy was shot at his headquarters at the Ambassador Hotel shortly after making a victory statement tonight. Trump's pick for Health and Human Services Secretary is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He has doubts that Sirhan Sirhan was his father's killer. Trump signed the order Thursday, promising a release of information on the murders. Trump said many people have been waiting for decades for this information and added that everything will be revealed. A new study finds smartphones could be making teenagers more aggressive and causing hallucinations. Camitra Heo with details. The study from non-profit Sapien Labs found that the younger person is when they start using a smartphone, the more likely they are to develop psychological problems. A majority of teens polled in the U.S. in India said they had feelings of hopelessness, guilt, anxiety, and unwanted strange thoughts. The study also found that the problems are more common with girls than boys. Spirit Airlines is implementing rules for passengers regarding offensive tattoos or sheer clothing, more from Brian Schook. Spirit updated its contract of carriage Wednesday saying passengers will not be allowed to board or will be asked to leave if they have body art that's lewd, obscene, or offensive in nature. That also applies to passengers who are inadequately clothed, which is defined as see-through clothing not adequately covered, exposed breasts, buttocks, or other private parts.
