President Trump is making the first trip of his new term today by visiting recent disaster areas in California and North Carolina. His first stop is Asheville, North Carolina. He'll then head to California to review the damage from the recent Los Angeles wildfires. The state of California will provide two and a half billion dollars in wildfire recovery funding to Los Angeles County, Altadena resident Kevin Williams home was damaged in the Eaton fire. And that's a star. I don't know how far that's going to go, but that's a star. Governor Gavin Newsom signed a package of funding bills in Pasadena on Thursday. Newsom state lawmakers and city leaders say the money will help speed up rebuilding efforts, fund cleanups and help issue legal protections and other relief for wildfire survivors. Many of the relief and recovery bills were proposed by lawmakers just last week. Former President Joe Biden previously said the federal government would pay for 100% of the disaster response costs in Los Angeles County. But President Trump has suggested withholding funding from California or he left office Biden also approved a major disaster declaration, which makes wildfires survivors eligible for FEMA grants. The new executive order from President Trump is calling for the declassification of records related to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Peter Alexander in Washington. So what are we going to see those files? They won't be revealed immediately on the JFK files. In particular officials now have two weeks to come up with a plan to share with President Trump. They have a month and a half to come up with plans for the RFK and MLK files. At this, the National Archives has said that 97% of the roughly 5 million pages of JFK documents have already been released, but it's those last ones that could hold the most tightly kept secrets. I'm Michael Kastner. A federal judge in Seattle has issued a temporary restraining order that prevents President Trump's executive order on birthright citizenship from taking effect. Mark Mayfield reports. Washington Attorney General Nick Brown led three states in the lawsuit. He says the 14th Amendment to the Constitution was meant to reverse the Dred Scott decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that upheld slavery and denied citizenship to black people. It was put into effect to reaffirm what it means to be an American. And so that's why this case was so important. Oregon, Arizona and Illinois joined Washington in filing the lawsuit. The judge ruled the lawsuit would likely prevail. I'm Mark Mayfield. College enrollment numbers are up and higher than before the COVID-19 pandemic, more from Tammy Trujillo. According to a national student clearinghouse research center report, total enrollment last fall was up four and a half percent from the year before. That's nearly a half percent higher than in 2019. Undergraduate certificate programs saw some of the biggest increases with an over 28 percent increase in enrollment from 2019 levels. I'm Tammy Trujillo.
