A federal judge is temporarily blocking President Trump's executive order that aims to limit birthright citizenship, Sally Patterson, with more. Challenges from four democratic states argue Trump's action violates the U.S. Constitution. Specifically, they say the 14th Amendment, which says anyone born in the country, is a citizen. A judge in Seattle has on Thursday agreed to pause implementing the policy for 14 days, while more briefings are held. There are also several other legal challenges across the country, creating an early speed bump in Donald Trump's roadmap for his presidency. Sally Patterson, New York. President Trump is making the first trip of his second term today. The president is scheduled to visit recent disaster areas in California and North Carolina. He's expected to make his first stop in Asheville, North Carolina, which suffered severe damage from tropical storm Helene last September. He then heads to the wildfire ravage West Coast. Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family are agreeing to pay more than $7 billion to resolve lawsuits related to the opioid crisis. California Attorney General Rob Bonta laid out the payment process. This will be followed by 500 million after one year and additional 500 million after two years and 400 million after three years. On Thursday, the Sacklers increased their proposed settlement contribution to $7.4 billion after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a previous settlement last year. Hendrik Lamar is bringing SZA out for his Super Bowl halftime show. Hendrik announced on social media on Thursday that SZA will join him on stage as a guest performer. A teenager will spend at least 52 years in prison for the murder of three young girls at a Taylor Swift themed dance event in Southport, England last summer, more from Stuart Smith. In court, the prosecutor described Axel Roodacabana's actions as a premeditated planned knife attack upon multiple victims, principally young girls intending to kill them. Ten managed to escape, including adults. The families of some of whom were in court as the gruesome details of the attack were described. Earlier this week, Roodacabana pleaded guilty to 16 charges, including murder, attempted murder, and producing the deadly toxin ricin. Sentenced on Thursday, the attack claimed the lives of a six, seven, and nine-year-old girl, eight other children and two adults were injured. Federal prosecutors are seeking a nearly five-year prison sentence for IPE Mizuhara, a former interpreter for Dodger star Shohei Otani, Daniel Martindale with more. On Thursday, prosecutors announced they have audio of Mizuhara impersonating Otani while on the phone with a bank. In the nearly four-minute recording, Mizuhara can be heard saying his name is Shohei Otani in trying to transfer $200,000 for what he says is a car loan. Mizuhara has already pleaded guilty to bank and tax fraud, admitting to stealing almost $17 million from the baseball star. Prosecutors also want Mizuhara to pay restitution to Otani and pay a fine of more than a million dollars to the IRS. I'm Daniel Martindale. President Trump is supporting the potential creation of a national cryptocurrency stockpile, Tammy Trujillo with details. Trump signed an executive order Thursday, promoting the advancement of cryptocurrency alongside his crypto and AI czar venture capitalist David Sachs. Trump, who criticized cryptocurrency in his first term, has since become an advocate. Nearly half of corporate donations to his 2024 campaign came from crypto investors, companies, and executives.
